Do you want a standard? I’ve got them all. CMI5? Or how about TINCAN? Standards are really useful. Standards allow different systems to talk to each other. You could say that a standard is like a container that can hold lots of different things. Such as videos, quizzes, games or sounds. But this content has to be packaged in some sort of container so that your LMS can handle it. And now we are going to talk about the types of container that are used in EdTech. This one, Scorm 1.2, is a real old favourite. This standard came out back in 2000 at the start of millennium and it’s simple, reliable, and supported by every LMS on the planet. But, it’s obviously not the latest and it doesn’t work especially well with smartphones. So that’s something to keep in mind. Let's not talk about this one. This is Scorm 2004. It’s like the little brother to Scorm 1.2. They are very similar, but no matter how hard it has tried, it has never grown as big as its big brother. Then, in 2013 this cool kid came along, TINCAN or xAPI. This one is really good at communicating with smartphones and mobile-ready LMS. Take a look at this neat little thing. This is CMI5. This standard is totally new. Of course, there are not many people using it yet, but you have to agree it looks good. So there you have it: standards. Oh yes. I almost forgot this one of course. This is a little painful. This is Flash, and it was a really important standard for many years. But nowadays ... well, there’s not much to say really. It’s really out for the count today, and it shouldn’t be used any more. And we’ll talk about that in another video.
