Eivør Pálsdóttir Faroese Music Festival Interview
-
0:27 - 0:35I believe that the G! Festival means a lot to the Faroe Islands and the Faroese music.
-
0:35 - 0:43There is a lot of foreigners that come to the Faroe Islands at this time to attend the festival.
-
0:43 - 1:02And this gets the Faroese music out to people around the world. The foreign press can hear the new Faroese bands, and all that stuff.
-
1:02 - 1:10And the festival is in a good location, a small village, where nothing happens all year.
-
1:10 - 1:16There are not even any shops there.
-
1:16 - 1:22People in Gøta look forward to the festival all year round.
-
1:22 - 1:30I think that almost all people that live in the area (Gøta) contribute to the festival somehow.
-
1:46 - 1:55I remember when I was around 13 or 14 years old, I went around and recorded elders singing old songs.
-
1:55 - 2:00Because I was so afraid that the elders would die, and the songs would die with them.
-
2:00 - 2:04Because there is nobody that sings those songs anymore.
-
2:04 - 2:10So I went around and recorded a lot of them and had them memorized.
-
2:10 - 2:21It was like a period of time, where I was very into that. Also I of course drifted a little from it again, I don't sing so much of the traditional music any longer.
-
2:21 - 2:32But in some kind of way it is still very deep inside of me and all the things I make. I am very inspired by it.
-
2:58 - 3:06This album is probablly the wildest of my work so far.
-
3:06 - 3:18I made it with some Faroese musicians, and Jens produced it. Jens plays in a band known as ORKA.
-
3:18 - 3:29It is like an indie rock, and a little bit of pop. Most of the lyrics are in English.
-
3:29 - 3:43But in a way, like I was talking about in the church, it's mood is a little dark.
-
3:48 - 3:55And it's of course also inspired by the Faroe islands and primordial force.
-
3:57 - 4:00And the mood here.
