Témoignage de Benny Prasad, le musicien mondialement connu

  • 0:00 - 0:06
Today's special music is a good friend
  • 0:06 - 0:08
of ours, from India, from Bangalore.
  • 0:08 - 0:11
But he's not there very much. He is the
  • 0:11 - 0:13
    world's most traveled musician. And
  • 0:13 - 0:15
    that's not an opinion! He's... Actually, I
  • 0:15 - 0:17
received a world record... he's been to
  • 0:17 - 0:19
every single country in the world.
  • 0:19 - 0:21
He plays for the poorest of the
  • 0:21 - 0:23
poor, the richest of the rich. He's open
  • 0:23 - 0:26
for everything. From the World Cup to the
  • 0:26 - 0:28
Olympics. He gets through here about once
  • 0:28 - 0:30
a year, on this very important and
  • 0:30 - 0:32
special day. His name is Benny Prasad. He
  • 0:32 - 0:36
will be... just added he agreed to do
  • 0:36 - 0:38
this. At 6:30 tonight, if you come to the
  • 0:38 - 0:40
meeting early at Thomas Road, he's going
  • 0:40 - 0:42
to do a mini-concert, right before the
  • 0:42 - 0:44
meeting. Welcome, all the way from India,
  • 0:44 - 0:46
one of the world's best known musicians,
  • 0:46 - 0:47
    Benny Prasad!
  • 0:47 - 0:57
    [Applause]
  • 1:01 - 1:08
Thank You Johnny. Good morning everybody!
  • 1:08 - 1:10
Come on, you can do that better! Good
  • 1:10 - 1:14
morning everybody! Yes, that was a quick
  • 1:14 - 1:16
lesson on good morning. Well, I want to
  • 1:16 - 1:18
thank Jesus for giving me this gift of
  • 1:18 - 1:20
life. And every time I come here I'm just
  • 1:20 - 1:22
so thrilled to see so many young people,
  • 1:22 - 1:26
on your way to missions. if you have not
  • 1:26 - 1:28
decided, today's your deadline for that,
  • 1:28 - 1:31
actually. And, you know, it's so
  • 1:31 - 1:33
wonderful to live! I just celebrated my
  • 1:33 - 1:37
38th birthday. And, at the age of 16,
  • 1:37 - 1:39
the doctors had given me 6 months to
  • 1:39 - 1:42
live. I was born with asthma. And, from
  • 1:42 - 1:44
the age of 2 till the age of 16, I was on
  • 1:44 - 1:46
wrong medication, on high dosage of
  • 1:46 - 1:48
cortisone steroids. And, as a result of
  • 1:48 - 1:50
that, 60% of my lungs got
  • 1:50 - 1:52
damaged and my immune system broke down.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
And I developed rheumatoid arthritis. At
  • 1:55 - 1:58
the age of 12, by accident, I was hit
  • 1:58 - 2:01
by javelin and my spinal cord was
  • 2:01 - 2:04
damaged. And everything went wrong in my
  • 2:04 - 2:06
life. Well, that's what the human said. And
  • 2:06 - 2:09
my father, being an aerospace scientist,
  • 2:09 - 2:13
he expected me to become like him. And I
  • 2:13 - 2:15
became the scum of the family. I was
  • 2:15 - 2:17
thrown out of school in my 10th grade,
  • 2:17 - 2:19
saying that "you are not worth studying,
  • 2:19 - 2:21
you are useless, you are good for nothing."
  • 2:21 - 2:23
These were the words that were spoken
  • 2:23 - 2:26
over my life for 16 years, where
  • 2:26 - 2:27
medically they told me you will not live
  • 2:27 - 2:30
any longer. In education, as well as
  • 2:30 - 2:32
society and family, they looked at me and
  • 2:32 - 2:33
they said: "Benny, you are a shame and a
  • 2:33 - 2:36
curse to the family." And, having no hope,
  • 2:36 - 2:40
no talent, no life, nothing left in me, I
  • 2:40 - 2:42
contemplated to commit suicide, at the
  • 2:42 - 2:44
age of 16. Even if you're really
  • 2:44 - 2:46
sitting down and wandering "Benny, can God
  • 2:46 - 2:48
use me in missions?", I want to tell you
  • 2:48 - 2:50
that there are so many Benny's like me
  • 2:50 - 2:54
out there, who needs the Gospel. And you
  • 2:54 - 2:56
are one among them who can really go and
  • 2:56 - 2:58
share that Gospel. And, at the lowest
  • 2:58 - 3:00
point of my life, when I wanted to kill
  • 3:00 - 3:03
myself, I heard the voice of Jesus-Christ
  • 3:03 - 3:04
saying: "Benny, even though you are called
  • 3:04 - 3:07
useless, I still need you. "I said: "Jesus,
  • 3:07 - 3:08
why do you need me when the whole world
  • 3:08 - 3:10
says I'm useless?" He said He could
  • 3:10 - 3:12
transform my life and make me a new
  • 3:12 - 3:15
person. I said "Okay, I have nothing to
  • 3:15 - 3:16
offer; all that I have is
  • 3:16 - 3:19
a broken life and 6 months to live." He
  • 3:19 - 3:21
said: "That's enough for me to start a new
  • 3:21 - 3:24
work in you!" And that's what He has done.
  • 3:24 - 3:30
I gave my life to Jesus-Christ. And
  • 3:30 - 3:33
    I've already
  • 3:33 - 3:35
    surpassed the expiry date that
  • 3:35 - 3:37
the doctors had put on my life, actually.
  • 3:37 - 3:40
And I'm just so thrilled to live
  • 3:40 - 3:43
this. And, in 2004, I asked Jesus: "What
  • 3:43 - 3:45
is your call for my life?" The Bible says:
  • 3:45 - 3:47
"God's ways are higher than man's ways
  • 3:47 - 3:48
and His thoughts are higher than our
  • 3:48 - 3:50
thoughts." And I want to tell you a
  • 3:50 - 3:52
Christian life is the most exciting life
  • 3:52 - 3:55
to live. And a life that is surrendered
  • 3:55 - 3:57
in Christ is just so adventurous. My life
  • 3:57 - 4:00
is more than James Bond movie. Because
  • 4:00 - 4:03
it's a reality. James Bond is only a
  • 4:03 - 4:06
movie, mine is a reality. And, in 2002,
  • 4:06 - 4:08
    with 25 dollars a month, being a
  • 4:08 - 4:10
??? missionary, I asked Jesus: "What do
  • 4:10 - 4:11
you want to do with my life?" because my
  • 4:11 - 4:14
dream was to go to one country. He said:
  • 4:14 - 4:15
"Benny, I want you to travel to every
  • 4:15 - 4:19
country by 2010!" I said: "Jesus, this is
  • 4:19 - 4:21
impossible! Till today, there has never
  • 4:21 - 4:23
been one example in the history of
  • 4:23 - 4:26
mankind. Whether it is Michael Jackson or
  • 4:26 - 4:28
Mariah Carey, or whoever it is, they have
  • 4:28 - 4:29
never been to every country in the world!
  • 4:29 - 4:33
How can I, being a broken person, be able
  • 4:33 - 4:34
to achieve this?" He said: "Benny, what
  • 4:34 - 4:37
is impossible for you is possible for me!"
  • 4:37 - 4:38
And what it takes my dear friend, today,
  • 4:38 - 4:41
is to surrender your brokenness and your
  • 4:41 - 4:43
life into the hands of Jesus. And He will
  • 4:43 - 4:46
shape it after His will. And so I said:
  • 4:46 - 4:48
"Jesus, as long as you are my provider, I
  • 4:48 - 4:50
will be your traveler." We had a good deal.
  • 4:50 - 4:53
I said: "I will live a life of faith and
  • 4:53 - 4:55
you provide for me." So today, this is my
  • 4:55 - 5:00
one passport; this passport is my travel
  • 5:00 - 5:02
record to every country in the world.
  • 5:02 - 5:04
    On 22 of November
  • 5:04 - 5:06
2010, I arrived in my last
  • 5:06 - 5:08
country, Pakistan. And I broke 6 world
  • 5:08 - 5:11
records. And, one among them, was I became
  • 5:11 - 5:13
the fastest man in the history to travel
  • 5:13 - 5:15
to every country, in the shortest time.
  • 5:15 - 5:18
    245 nations, including Antarctica, in
  • 5:18 - 5:21
66 months and 22 days. If Jesus
  • 5:21 - 5:24
can use my life to make history for his
  • 5:24 - 5:26
glory... I'm sorry I don't have time to
  • 5:26 - 5:27
wait for your clapping. I'm not trying to
  • 5:27 - 5:29
    be rude... But if Jesus
  • 5:29 - 5:31
do that in my life, today He has a plan
  • 5:31 - 5:34
for your life. And He took me to amazing
  • 5:34 - 5:36
nations. One among them was North Korea.
  • 5:36 - 5:37
Last year, I was invited by the
  • 5:37 - 5:39
government of North Korea to come and
  • 5:39 - 5:41
perform for the 100th birth anniversary of
  • 5:41 - 5:44
    their founder, Kim Il-sung. 834
  • 5:44 - 5:45
performers were chosen from all over the
  • 5:45 - 5:48
world and I was the only Indian chosen,
  • 5:48 - 5:50
from my country. And it was a great
  • 5:50 - 5:52
opportunity to play but more so an
  • 5:52 - 5:55
opportunity to share the Gospel. Yes, if
  • 5:55 - 5:56
you share the Gospel, you don't need to
  • 5:56 - 5:58
be a prophet to understand that you will
  • 5:58 - 6:00
be killed. But I understood in the Word
  • 6:00 - 6:02
of God that, if anyone tries to save
  • 6:02 - 6:05
their life, will lose it. If anyone loses
  • 6:05 - 6:06
their life, for the sake of Christ, will
  • 6:06 - 6:09
find it. So, I informed my parents, there's
  • 6:09 - 6:10
a big possibility that I might be killed
  • 6:10 - 6:13
in North Korea. "So if you don't hear from
  • 6:13 - 6:16
me on the 17th of April that's a
  • 6:16 - 6:17
mutual understanding that either I am
  • 6:17 - 6:19
killed or in prison. And I will see you
  • 6:19 - 6:21
in Heaven. Because for me to live is
  • 6:21 - 6:23
Christ and to die is gain. "So I went to
  • 6:23 - 6:25
North Korea, so excited to live and to
  • 6:25 - 6:28
die for Jesus. Two spies followed me every
  • 6:28 - 6:30
single day of my life, every single
  • 6:30 - 6:32
minute in fact. When you have 2
  • 6:32 - 6:34
    ungodly spies following you
  • 6:34 - 6:36
all the time, what do you do?
  • 6:36 - 6:37
    You share the Gospel.
  • 6:37 - 6:39
    Because they're always with you.
  • 6:39 - 6:41
    They will never leave you.
  • 6:41 - 6:42
    They might forsake you but
  • 6:42 - 6:43
they will never leave you. And, since
  • 6:43 - 6:45
they're always with you, what a great
  • 6:45 - 6:48
opportunity to talk about Jesus. You
  • 6:48 - 6:50
don't need to go to North Korea to talk
  • 6:50 - 6:52
about Jesus. Jesus is putting a nation in
  • 6:52 - 6:55
your heart. Be obedient to Him. Say "yes" to
  • 6:55 - 6:58
Him. And I got into trouble. Sure, next day
  • 6:58 - 7:00
    my interpreter went and inform
  • 7:00 - 7:03
to the official that Benny is doing this
  • 7:03 - 7:04
because I used her to translate my
  • 7:04 - 7:07
testimony to the spies. Now, I'm in big
  • 7:07 - 7:09
trouble. It's sure, I'll be killed. But
  • 7:09 - 7:11
the right perspective is what a great
  • 7:11 - 7:13
opportunity to stand in front of the
  • 7:13 - 7:16
official. And I shared my testimony,
  • 7:16 - 7:19
knowing that I might be killed. But the
  • 7:19 - 7:20
official asked me a question: "How could
  • 7:20 - 7:22
you be so sure you heard the voice of
  • 7:22 - 7:25
Jesus at 16? It could have been your own
  • 7:25 - 7:27
imagination." I told him: "Sir, my own
  • 7:27 - 7:30
imagination told me to kill myself. It is
  • 7:30 - 7:32
the voice of Jesus that gave me life and
  • 7:32 - 7:34
life in abundance." And he heard my
  • 7:34 - 7:36
testimony. And I want to tell you my
  • 7:36 - 7:38
friends, be courageous, even to the point
  • 7:38 - 7:40
of death to share the love of
  • 7:40 - 7:43
    Jesus-Christ. Don't ever fear
  • 7:43 - 7:45
for your life because Jesus is
  • 7:45 - 7:46
in charge. I was not killed in North
  • 7:46 - 7:49
Korea because it was not my time to die.
  • 7:49 - 7:52
He knows my time, actually. And in the
  • 7:52 - 7:55
end, 12 musicians were chosen out of 834
  • 7:55 - 7:58
performers. And I was one among the 12, to
  • 7:58 - 8:00
be awarded by the government of North
  • 8:00 - 8:02
Korea. I played "Shout to the Lord", a
  • 8:02 - 8:04
song which I'm going to play. "My Jesus, my
  • 8:04 - 8:06
Savior, Lord there is none like You" in a
  • 8:06 - 8:09
nation like that, on their national TV. If
  • 8:09 - 8:11
God could use a Christian and Indian to
  • 8:11 - 8:14
perform on this guitar... a guitar which
  • 8:14 - 8:17
God helped me to design in 2004 for the
  • 8:17 - 8:19
Olympic games in Greece... If God could
  • 8:19 - 8:22
pick a broken worthless child like me,
  • 8:22 - 8:24
written off by society, to design the
  • 8:24 - 8:26
world's first guitar with drums inside,
  • 8:26 - 8:29
there is nothing impossible for Jesus to
  • 8:29 - 8:31
do in your life. If He could pick up, give
  • 8:31 - 8:34
me a passport like this, 14 books, to go
  • 8:34 - 8:37
and share the Good News to the nations,
  • 8:37 - 8:39
there is nothing impossible. I am just so
  • 8:39 - 8:42
excited. And I'm going to play the song.
  • 8:42 - 8:44
"My Jesus, my Savior Lord there is none
  • 8:44 - 8:46
like You." And again, with arthritis, when
  • 8:46 - 8:48
I play this instrument, even the medical
  • 8:48 - 8:51
doctor say this has to be God, and God
  • 8:51 - 8:53
alone. And just to conclude with, when I
  • 8:53 - 8:55
broke the world record, I had a hat wich
  • 8:55 - 8:57
said "Thank you Jesus". And CNN was the
  • 8:57 - 8:59
first news channel to interview me. And
  • 8:59 - 9:01
they said: "Sir, that is a religious
  • 9:01 - 9:02
statement. Please, take off your hat
  • 9:02 - 9:04
because we are a secular channel." and
  • 9:04 - 9:06
I'll tell you you want to share the
  • 9:06 - 9:09
Gospel, share it creatively. Nobody can
  • 9:09 - 9:11
stop you. And so I asked Jesus for an
  • 9:11 - 9:13
idea because the whole world is going to
  • 9:13 - 9:16
interview me for achieving this feat. And
  • 9:16 - 9:18
I want to make sure that Jesus is known.
  • 9:18 - 9:20
I am not ashamed of the Gospel. He gave
  • 9:20 - 9:22
me life when doctors gave me 6 months
  • 9:22 - 9:24
to live. He gave me protection. He gave me
  • 9:24 - 9:26
this beautiful future. How can I keep
  • 9:26 - 9:30
Jesus secret. No! It is sin for me to keep
  • 9:30 - 9:32
Jesus just to myself. So He gave me this
  • 9:32 - 9:37
beautiful idea of designing this new hat.
  • 9:37 - 9:39
And my hat says: "Thank you Jesus, I am an
  • 9:39 - 9:41
Indian." This is not a religious statement,
  • 9:41 - 9:43
it is a patriotic statement. And hence
  • 9:43 - 9:47
nobody can stop me. You know, nobody can
  • 9:47 - 9:49
stop me from wearing these things.
  • 9:49 - 9:54
    And, even news channels, they
  • 9:54 - 9:55
would come up to me and say: "What is this
  • 9:55 - 9:58
on your head?" I said: "Well, I'm proud to be
  • 9:58 - 10:00
an Indian." The cameraman says: "Do a close
  • 10:00 - 10:02
up on his hat, also." At the United Nations,
  • 10:02 - 10:04
they told me: "You cannot share about
  • 10:04 - 10:06
Jesus." I said: "Fine." But I wore my hat
  • 10:06 - 10:08
which talked about Jesus all the time. My
  • 10:08 - 10:10
friends, if you really want to talk about
  • 10:10 - 10:13
    Jesus, nobody can stop you.
  • 10:13 - 10:14
    So don't use excuses.
