Wat is het meest verbazingwekkende feit over het universum dat u met ons kunt delen?

Het meest verbazingwekkende feit

is de kennis

dat de atomen waaruit het leven op aarde opgebouwd is,

de atomen waaruit het menselijk lichaam bestaat,

terug te voeren zijn tot de kernen van sterren, waarin lichte elementen

tot zware elementen omgesmolten werden

onder extreme temperaturen en extreme druk.

Daarvan werden de sterren met de grootste massa

onstabiel in latere jaren.

Ze stortten in, waarna ze explodeerden en hun verrijkte ingewanden door het heelal verspreidden.

ingewanden bestaande uit koolstof, stikstof en zuurstof

en alle fundamentele ingrediënten van het leven zelf.

Deze ingrediënten worden een onderdeel van gaswolken die

condenseren, instorten, en de volgende generatie zonnestelsels vormen:

sterren met omcirkelende planeten. Planeten die nu de ingrediënten hebben om zelf leven te creëren.

Dus als ik naar de sterrenhemel kijk,

weet ik dat we tot dit universum behoren, dat we in dit universum aanwezig zijn.

Maar wat misschien nog belangrijker is dan die twee feiten

is dat het universum deel van ons uitmaakt.

Wanneer ik over dat feit nadenk, kijk ik naar de hemel.

Veel mensen voelen zich klein omdat ze klein zijn en het universum groot is,

maar ik voel me groot omdat mijn atomen uit die sterren voortkwamen.

Er is een mate aan verbondenheid.

Dat is wat je echt wilt in het leven: je wilt je verbonden voelen, je wilt je zinvol voelen.

Je wilt je voelen alsof je deelneemt aan de

activiteiten en gebeurtenissen die om je heen plaatsvinden.

Dat is precies wat we doen door simpelweg te leven...
