504: The Deposit

  • 0:00 - 0:01
    Pierre: It is my absolute
  • 0:01 - 0:04
    privilege this morning to introduce
  • 0:04 - 0:06
to you Andres Spyker. He has been a
  • 0:06 - 0:09
friend of Marlize and I, he and his
  • 0:09 - 0:11
beautiful wife, and their lovely family,
  • 0:11 - 0:13
for the last, I think, four years.
  • 0:13 - 0:15
And it is wonderful when you meet
  • 0:15 - 0:16
people and when you meet them it feels
  • 0:16 - 0:19
like you've known each all your lives.
  • 0:19 - 0:20
You know, it's like you've been
  • 0:20 - 0:21
separated at birth. Then you come
  • 0:21 - 0:22
together and you go like, we know
  • 0:22 - 0:24
each other! I know we do!
  • 0:24 - 0:25
And I've had the privilege to be at
  • 0:25 - 0:27
his church twice and it is just the
  • 0:27 - 0:30
most incredible experience. I am so
  • 0:30 - 0:32
thankful every time we get together
  • 0:32 - 0:35
with them. The residue and the
  • 0:35 - 0:37
investment of what comes and flows out
  • 0:37 - 0:39
of their life is so rich. It always
  • 0:39 - 0:42
    leaves us transformed and changed.
  • 0:42 - 0:45
So I am so excited to call Andres to
  • 0:45 - 0:47
    come and deliver God's word.
  • 0:47 - 0:48
Would you put your hands together as
  • 0:48 - 0:54
    we welcome Pastor Andres! (applause)
  • 0:54 - 0:58
Andres: Thank you! How you doin'?
  • 0:58 - 1:01
Man, this is a good day,no?!
  • 1:01 - 1:03
I don't like the cold but God bless
  • 1:03 - 1:04
you guys as you endure with it a few
  • 1:04 - 1:08
more months. We're just real happy,
  • 1:08 - 1:11
my wife, Kelly, and myself, to be here!
  • 1:11 - 1:13
    We live in Mexico!
  • 1:13 - 1:15
    Morelia, Michoacán, México.
  • 1:15 - 1:18
    Buenos tacos! (laughter)
  • 1:18 - 1:22
    Beunas enchilldas! Tortillas!
  • 1:22 - 1:27
You know those words?! And we have
  • 1:27 - 1:29
the privilege of pastoring a church.
  • 1:29 - 1:31
Many of you were familiar with the
  • 1:31 - 1:33
    name, Vida Abundante, abundant life.
  • 1:33 - 1:36
Now we've changed the name a little bit,
  • 1:36 - 1:37
Mas Vida, more life. You know there
  • 1:37 - 1:39
are so many abundant life's in Mexcio,
  • 1:39 - 1:41
we didn't want to ruin their reputation
  • 1:41 - 1:42
with our weirdness or something like
  • 1:42 - 1:46
that! So we are opening other churches.
  • 1:46 - 1:48
And please receive greetings from the
  • 1:48 - 1:51
church and also from my family.
  • 1:51 - 1:51
I want to show you a little picture of
  • 1:51 - 1:54
my beautiful family. Kelly and I have
  • 1:54 - 1:58
been married for about, almost 14 years.
  • 1:58 - 2:00
And those are our three kids.
  • 2:00 - 2:03
    Jared is 11 years old.
  • 2:03 - 2:08
And that guy, that guy is awesome.
  • 2:08 - 2:10
That guy is like a theologian.
  • 2:10 - 2:11
That guy just loves the word and
  • 2:11 - 2:12
reads it all the time and asks
  • 2:12 - 2:16
crazy, hard questions. And he is a
  • 2:16 - 2:19
drummer and just an amazing, amazing guy.
  • 2:19 - 2:21
And then Lucas, that guy, you know we
  • 2:21 - 2:23
started fasting a few weeks ago and
  • 2:23 - 2:25
Jared is like, I'm gonna fast
  • 2:25 - 2:28
PlayStation. And I'm gonna fast candy.
  • 2:28 - 2:30
And I'm gonna fast this and that.
  • 2:30 - 2:31
And Lucas looks at me and he's like,
  • 2:31 - 2:34
I don't wanna fast! You know, that guy
  • 2:34 - 2:37
just doesn't. But you know he loves
  • 2:37 - 2:39
Jesus. He had an encounter with Jesus
  • 2:39 - 2:42
in December so beautiful and powerful.
  • 2:42 - 2:45
Jared got baptized. Lucas really had
  • 2:45 - 2:47
a really, just giving his life over
  • 2:47 - 2:49
to Jesus in December. The most
  • 2:49 - 2:50
beautiful thing that can happen in
  • 2:50 - 2:53
your family is not the kind of education
  • 2:53 - 2:55
or house you give them, but the kind of
  • 2:55 - 2:58
spiritual life that you give them in
  • 2:58 - 2:59
Jesus. And when they become followers
  • 2:59 - 3:05
of God. And Sophia, Sophia Kelly.
  • 3:05 - 3:09
She just turned 1 year old in December.
  • 3:09 - 3:13
She's just an amazing little girl.
  • 3:13 - 3:15
She is the life of our party.
  • 3:15 - 3:18
And she is bright and beautiful.
  • 3:18 - 3:21
We're so blessed to have three amazing,
  • 3:21 - 3:24
beautiful children. I'd like you to
  • 3:24 - 3:26
receive just a greeting from them all.
  • 3:26 - 3:28
I want to ask you to help me thank God
  • 3:28 - 3:31
for such a wonderful family He's given me.
  • 3:31 - 3:35
It's a real privilege to be here.
  • 3:35 - 3:37
I want to thank your pastors,
  • 3:37 - 3:40
Pierre and Marlize. They are our friends.
  • 3:40 - 3:43
There are really few people that we can
  • 3:43 - 3:46
just open up with and be ourselves with
  • 3:46 - 3:50
and count as friends in the kingdom
  • 3:50 - 3:52
of God. Pierre and Marlize and their
  • 3:52 - 3:55
family are just amazing examples to us
  • 3:55 - 3:57
and amazing friends to us. You guys have
  • 3:57 - 4:02
    awesome pastors! (applause)
  • 4:02 - 4:03
You guys have awesome pastors, you
  • 4:03 - 4:06
really do! You guys are part of something
  • 4:06 - 4:08
amazing. You know, what is happening
  • 4:08 - 4:10
here at The Father's House is an
  • 4:10 - 4:13
    absolute miracle in upstate, cold,
  • 4:13 - 4:16
    freezing, Rochester, New York!
  • 4:16 - 4:19
Oh my goodness! And this is happening
  • 4:19 - 4:21
here, you know? And sometimes you're
  • 4:21 - 4:22
part of it every week and every month
  • 4:22 - 4:25
and you just loose the awe of what
  • 4:25 - 4:27
God is doing. And I'm telling you,
  • 4:27 - 4:30
ever be thankful and amazed and just
  • 4:30 - 4:34
honor God for the amazing miracle of
  • 4:34 - 4:36
The Father's House and Pierre and Marlize
  • 4:36 - 4:39
all the way from South Africa. God
  • 4:39 - 4:41
brought them just to bless your life
  • 4:41 - 4:43
and change this region! Just be
  • 4:43 - 4:45
thankful for the Lord to it and
  • 4:45 - 4:47
amazed at the miracle of God that He is
  • 4:47 - 4:49
doing in this place! Could I hear a
  • 4:49 - 4:52
louder applause for the Lord, and just
  • 4:52 - 4:55
a big thank you for God?! (applause)
  • 4:55 - 5:00
    Come on, that's just awesome!
  • 5:00 - 5:01
Can you continue playing while I read
  • 5:01 - 5:04
the verses and then you can stop?
  • 5:04 - 5:06
    Doesn't he play awesome? (applause)
  • 5:06 - 5:09
I'm like, in offering time the jazz is
  • 5:09 - 5:12
going on and I'm like, yeah! I don't
  • 5:12 - 5:14
have to preach, I just want to listen
  • 5:14 - 5:17
to this the rest of half hour.
  • 5:17 - 5:24
So we're going to read in Exodus 3:10.
  • 5:24 - 5:26
A few weeks ago Pastor Pierre talked to
  • 5:26 - 5:29
you about how Moses was attracted to
  • 5:29 - 5:34
the burning bush. And he took time.
  • 5:34 - 5:36
He paused in his life and went to look
  • 5:36 - 5:38
at what was happening there. And God
  • 5:38 - 5:41
spoke to him and encountered him there.
  • 5:41 - 5:42
You know, this is part of that encounter,
  • 5:42 - 5:45
Exodus 3:10. It says come. The Lord is
  • 5:45 - 5:47
talking to Moses. I will send you.
  • 5:47 - 5:51
Why don't you touch the shoulder of
  • 5:51 - 5:52
three people and tell them, I will
  • 5:52 - 5:55
send you. God will send you. Tell them,
  • 5:55 - 6:00
God will send you! God will send you!
  • 6:00 - 6:03
It says God will send you to Pharaoh that
  • 6:03 - 6:04
you may bring my people, the children
  • 6:04 - 6:08
of Israel, out of Egypt. But Moses said
  • 6:08 - 6:10
to God, who am I that I should go to
  • 6:10 - 6:12
Pharaoh and bring the children of
  • 6:12 - 6:14
Israel out of Egypt? He said, but I
  • 6:14 - 6:16
will be with you. And this shall be
  • 6:16 - 6:18
the sign for you that I have sent you.
  • 6:18 - 6:20
When you have brought the people out
  • 6:20 - 6:22
of Egypt you shall serve God on this
  • 6:22 - 6:25
mountain. Then Moses said to God,
  • 6:25 - 6:27
if I come to the people of Israel and
  • 6:27 - 6:29
say to them, the God of your fathers
  • 6:29 - 6:32
has sent me to you, and they ask me,
  • 6:32 - 6:34
what is His name? What shall I say to
  • 6:34 - 6:40
them? God said to Moses, I am who I am.
  • 6:40 - 6:42
And He said, say to those people of
  • 6:42 - 6:44
Israel, I am has sent me to you.
  • 6:44 - 6:46
God also said to Moses, say this to
  • 6:46 - 6:48
the people of Israel, the Lord, the God
  • 6:48 - 6:49
of your fathers, the God of Abraham,
  • 6:49 - 6:53
the God of Issac, the God of Jacob,
  • 6:53 - 6:58
the God of Andres, the God of Pierre,
  • 6:58 - 7:02
the God of (insert your name here),
  • 7:02 - 7:07
has sent me to you. And this is My name
  • 7:07 - 7:10
forever. And thus, I am to be
  • 7:10 - 7:11
    remembered throughout all generations.
  • 7:11 - 7:15
Let's jump to Exodus 4:1. Then Moses
  • 7:15 - 7:17
answered, but behold they will not believe
  • 7:17 - 7:19
me or listen to my voice. For they will
  • 7:19 - 7:22
say, the Lord did not appear to you.
  • 7:22 - 7:23
And the Lord said to him, what is that
  • 7:23 - 7:26
in your hand? He said, a staff.
  • 7:26 - 7:28
He said, throw it on the ground.
  • 7:28 - 7:29
So he threw it on the ground and it
  • 7:29 - 7:32
became a snake, a serpent. And Moses
  • 7:32 - 7:35
ran from it. I would've run too!
  • 7:35 - 7:37
But the Lord said to Moses, put out
  • 7:37 - 7:39
your hand and catch it by the tail.
  • 7:39 - 7:41
So he put out his hand and caught it,
  • 7:41 - 7:43
and it became a staff in his hand.
  • 7:43 - 7:44
That they may believe that the Lord,
  • 7:44 - 7:46
the God of their fathers, the God of
  • 7:46 - 7:49
Abraham, the God of Issac, and the God
  • 7:49 - 7:51
of Jacob, and the God of Andres,
  • 7:51 - 7:53
and the God of Pierre, and the God
  • 7:53 - 7:56
of (insert your name here) has appeared
  • 7:56 - 7:59
to you. But Moses said to the Lord,
  • 7:59 - 8:01
O my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in
  • 8:01 - 8:03
the past or since you have spoken to
  • 8:03 - 8:05
your servant. But I am slow of speech
  • 8:05 - 8:07
and of tongue. And I stutter. And I'm
  • 8:07 - 8:08
like that guy on the cartoons that
  • 8:08 - 8:12
says, tha, tha, tha, that's is all folks!
  • 8:12 - 8:13
Then the Lord said to him, who has made
  • 8:13 - 8:17
man's mouth? Who makes them mute or
  • 8:17 - 8:21
deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not
  • 8:21 - 8:23
I, the Lord? Now therefore, go.
  • 8:23 - 8:25
And I will be with you and teach you
  • 8:25 - 8:29
what you shall speak. Jesus, we thank
  • 8:29 - 8:35
You so much for Your cross, Your blood,
  • 8:35 - 8:39
    Your resurrection. Faith in You
  • 8:39 - 8:41
reconciles us to God the father.
  • 8:41 - 8:44
And we thank You for that life and
  • 8:44 - 8:46
    reconciliation and blessing and
  • 8:46 - 8:49
    abundant life You've given us.
  • 8:49 - 8:49
And I also thank You for this morning.
  • 8:49 - 8:50
I thank You for this beautiful church.
  • 8:50 - 8:55
Thank You for the privilege of sharing
  • 8:55 - 8:57
Your word. I pray for a fresh anointing
  • 8:57 - 8:59
on my life, anointing upon my lips,
  • 8:59 - 9:01
anointing for the people who are
  • 9:01 - 9:04
hearing us in this place and online and
  • 9:04 - 9:07
in other cities and in Africa, Lord.
  • 9:07 - 9:10
I pray for anointing on the ears.
  • 9:10 - 9:11
I pray that Your word would cause
  • 9:11 - 9:13
the purposes for which You have sent it.
  • 9:13 - 9:17
In Jesus' name. And we all said, Amen!
  • 9:17 - 9:20
So here's Moses. Thank you, thank you
  • 9:20 - 9:24
very much. Denis is awesome! (applause)
  • 9:24 - 9:29
So here's Moses. He grew up, you know
  • 9:29 - 9:32
he was born in an Israeli-Jewish home in
  • 9:32 - 9:34
Egypt. And Pharaoh wanted to kill
  • 9:34 - 9:38
Israeli boys. So when he was born
  • 9:38 - 9:41
his mom hide him in basket, put him
  • 9:41 - 9:44
in a river, and you know the story.
  • 9:44 - 9:45
He gets adopted by Pharaoh's daughter,
  • 9:45 - 9:47
grows up in the castle. And then one
  • 9:47 - 9:49
day when he is about 40 years old he
  • 9:49 - 9:52
wants to make a difference. How many of
  • 9:52 - 9:54
you this morning want to make a
  • 9:54 - 9:56
difference? How many of you want to
  • 9:56 - 9:58
make a difference in your family?
  • 9:58 - 9:59
You want to make a difference in
  • 9:59 - 10:00
your work place. And make a difference
  • 10:00 - 10:02
in your college. And make a difference
  • 10:02 - 10:03
in your high school. And make a
  • 10:03 - 10:05
    difference in your neighborhood.
  • 10:05 - 10:08
Moses wanted to make a difference.
  • 10:08 - 10:10
And so he stood up one day, and he saw
  • 10:10 - 10:12
somebody being abused by one of the
  • 10:12 - 10:14
Egyptians and he tried to stand in
  • 10:14 - 10:17
the way and make a difference. And he
  • 10:17 - 10:19
stood in the way and he ended up killing
  • 10:19 - 10:23
that Egyptian guy, and ended up being
  • 10:23 - 10:25
a criminal and running from Pharaoh.
  • 10:25 - 10:27
And he tried to make the difference.
  • 10:27 - 10:31
He tried to make God's mission,
  • 10:31 - 10:33
he tried to do God's will in his own
  • 10:33 - 10:36
    power, and failed completely.
  • 10:36 - 10:39
How many of you have experienced that?
  • 10:39 - 10:41
You know, you try to fix your marriage
  • 10:41 - 10:47
and it just gets worse! You know?
  • 10:47 - 10:49
You try to fix your kids and they just get
  • 10:49 - 10:52
worse. Man. You know, you try to fix
  • 10:52 - 10:57
things at work. We cannot do the work
  • 10:57 - 10:59
of God in our strength. You know we
  • 10:59 - 11:02
cannot do God's mission on man's power.
  • 11:02 - 11:04
It just cannot happen. So Moses tries
  • 11:04 - 11:06
to change things in his power and
  • 11:06 - 11:08
fails miserably and ends up running from
  • 11:08 - 11:12
justice. And he is now in a desert and
  • 11:12 - 11:15
he is now working for his father-in-law.
  • 11:15 - 11:17
How many of you say that's an awesome
  • 11:17 - 11:21
    blessing, working for your father-in-law?
  • 11:21 - 11:25
    And he's attending to sheep.
  • 11:25 - 11:26
If you work for your father-in-law,
  • 11:26 - 11:28
I bless you. I was just joking.
  • 11:28 - 11:29
You know, don't feel rejected or
  • 11:29 - 11:33
upset by that. And he was pastoring
  • 11:33 - 11:34
this flock. And you know, an
  • 11:34 - 11:36
Egyptian, the lowest job in Egypt was
  • 11:36 - 11:41
to work with sheep or cattle. That was
  • 11:41 - 11:43
the lowest job in Egypt. And so this
  • 11:43 - 11:47
guy has the lowest job in society.
  • 11:47 - 11:49
He is working for his father-in-law in
  • 11:49 - 11:51
a desert, shut out from society.
  • 11:51 - 11:55
Just failed miserably at being the
  • 11:55 - 11:56
difference. And there he is. He just
  • 11:56 - 11:58
didn't want to do anything else with
  • 11:58 - 11:59
his life, just walking around and
  • 11:59 - 12:02
figuring out what to do that day.
  • 12:02 - 12:04
He didn't have any more ambitions of
  • 12:04 - 12:06
doing any great things with his life.
  • 12:06 - 12:09
And you know, God shows up to him one
  • 12:09 - 12:10
day. And He says, I have a mission
  • 12:10 - 12:12
for you. I want to send you to go
  • 12:12 - 12:16
rescue people, rescue My people from
  • 12:16 - 12:19
slavery in Egypt. And I want to tell
  • 12:19 - 12:22
you something today. God not only sent
  • 12:22 - 12:25
Jesus to forgive your sins. God not
  • 12:25 - 12:27
only sent Jesus to reconcile you to
  • 12:27 - 12:30
the Father. God not only sent Jesus
  • 12:30 - 12:32
to give you eternal life and abundant
  • 12:32 - 12:36
life. God sent Jesus to give you an
  • 12:36 - 12:40
eternal mission! Got has sent you on
  • 12:40 - 12:41
a mission. And you know, the thing is,
  • 12:41 - 12:44
    we cut the gospel short.
  • 12:44 - 12:45
    Jesus loves you.
  • 12:45 - 12:46
    Jesus forgives you.
  • 12:46 - 12:48
    Jesus restores you.
  • 12:48 - 12:50
Jesus has a ticket for you to heaven.
  • 12:50 - 12:51
    And we stop right there.
  • 12:51 - 12:55
But when Jesus ended his commandments
  • 12:55 - 12:57
to His disciples before he ascended,
  • 12:57 - 13:01
He said, go and make disciples into
  • 13:01 - 13:03
all nations. And make disciples in
  • 13:03 - 13:06
Rochester. And go and make disciples
  • 13:06 - 13:07
in New York. And make disciples in
  • 13:07 - 13:10
    Africa. And make disciples everywhere.
  • 13:10 - 13:12
And the problem is, since we cut the
  • 13:12 - 13:14
gospel short, we only experience part
  • 13:14 - 13:17
of the gospel, when we are to experience
  • 13:17 - 13:20
the full gospel! We need to understand
  • 13:20 - 13:23
there is a mission for our lives.
  • 13:23 - 13:26
And the mission for your life is to
  • 13:26 - 13:29
make disciples. I didn't hear anybody
  • 13:29 - 13:34
say Amen right there! You don't know,
  • 13:34 - 13:36
brother. God has called me to just
  • 13:36 - 13:39
be a mom. God has called me to be
  • 13:39 - 13:41
a business man. God has called me
  • 13:41 - 13:43
to be a college student. God has
  • 13:43 - 13:46
called me just to be a soccer player.
  • 13:46 - 13:47
No, God has called me just to sing in
  • 13:47 - 13:48
the choir. God has called me to open
  • 13:48 - 13:50
the door at your church. No, that is
  • 13:50 - 13:53
your place of service. That is your
  • 13:53 - 13:55
place of vocation. But your mission
  • 13:55 - 13:59
is to make disciples in that place.
  • 13:59 - 14:01
You are to make disciples of your
  • 14:01 - 14:04
    children, that your children would
  • 14:04 - 14:07
    become disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • 14:07 - 14:09
Maybe you're a young guy and you're the
  • 14:09 - 14:10
    only Christian in your home.
  • 14:10 - 14:12
And you're like, well my parents should
  • 14:12 - 14:13
make disciples of me. No, no. You
  • 14:13 - 14:15
can make disciples of your parents of
  • 14:15 - 14:18
Jesus Christ! I didn't hear too many
  • 14:18 - 14:21
    young people convinced of that.
  • 14:21 - 14:23
You know, young people can love and
  • 14:23 - 14:24
obey and honor their parents in such
  • 14:24 - 14:26
a way that would shake their parents
  • 14:26 - 14:29
up to want to follow Jesus. If God
  • 14:29 - 14:31
can make my kid into an obedient,
  • 14:31 - 14:36
    faithful, loving, honoring kid, sixteen
  • 14:36 - 14:39
years old. Doesn't argue with me,
  • 14:39 - 14:42
    doesn't overspend my credit card,
  • 14:42 - 14:45
works to clean my car every week,
  • 14:45 - 14:46
honors me all the time, obeys.
  • 14:46 - 14:49
Jesus has to be doing something in that
  • 14:49 - 14:52
kid's life! So a kid can actually
  • 14:52 - 14:54
make a disciple of his dad and make a
  • 14:54 - 14:56
disciple of his mom to follow
  • 14:56 - 15:00
Jesus Christ. Is somebody here today?!
  • 15:00 - 15:02
And so the mission for your life is
  • 15:02 - 15:04
not what you do at work or what you
  • 15:04 - 15:06
do at home or what you do at church.
  • 15:06 - 15:08
    That's your place of service.
  • 15:08 - 15:10
Your mission is to make disciples in
  • 15:10 - 15:13
every place that you live and work and
  • 15:13 - 15:16
play and study and do life. So your
  • 15:16 - 15:19
mission is to make disciples of your
  • 15:19 - 15:24
    neighborhood, not just live there.
  • 15:24 - 15:25
Your mission is to make disciples in
  • 15:25 - 15:30
your work place, not just work there.
  • 15:30 - 15:31
Your mission is to make disciples of
  • 15:31 - 15:34
people in your home, not just to live
  • 15:34 - 15:36
there and eat there and use a toilet
  • 15:36 - 15:39
there. Your mission is to make
  • 15:39 - 15:42
disciples in your school. It is not
  • 15:42 - 15:44
just to study there. Is there somebody
  • 15:44 - 15:46
following this or not? So Moses is
  • 15:46 - 15:47
just going about, around his life.
  • 15:47 - 15:48
And he's like, everything is fine.
  • 15:48 - 15:51
And I can do life without God.
  • 15:51 - 15:53
And the problem is, in America we can
  • 15:53 - 15:56
do life without God. You know, you
  • 15:56 - 15:58
can have a good job and work and do
  • 15:58 - 16:01
life and pay for your kid's education,
  • 16:01 - 16:02
and just do normal. Everybody can
  • 16:02 - 16:04
do life without God. But you cannot
  • 16:04 - 16:09
serve God without God! You cannot
  • 16:09 - 16:12
    accomplish God's mission without God.
  • 16:12 - 16:14
So when God tells Moses, Moses, I don't
  • 16:14 - 16:16
just want you to do life, I want you
  • 16:16 - 16:21
to rescue people. Then Moses says,
  • 16:21 - 16:24
oh man, who am I to do that?
  • 16:24 - 16:26
    You know my past.
  • 16:26 - 16:27
You know where I came from and
  • 16:27 - 16:30
what happened to me and how people
  • 16:30 - 16:31
tried to kill me. And them I'm adopted.
  • 16:31 - 16:33
And then this. And then I tried.
  • 16:33 - 16:34
    And then I killed someone.
  • 16:34 - 16:35
Now I'm running. You know who I am!
  • 16:35 - 16:38
Who am I? And I love the answer of
  • 16:38 - 16:40
the Lord, because God does not
  • 16:40 - 16:43
    psychoanalyze Moses. He doesn't say,
  • 16:43 - 16:45
well, let's take you back to your
  • 16:45 - 16:47
past. Remember the time you were in
  • 16:47 - 16:54
that basket. Is your inner child crying?
  • 16:54 - 16:59
You know? He doesn't psychoanalyze him.
  • 16:59 - 17:02
He says Moses, I know who you are.
  • 17:02 - 17:03
But if you read it, it says but
  • 17:03 - 17:07
I will be with you! It is irrelevant
  • 17:07 - 17:09
where you've been or what you've done
  • 17:09 - 17:10
or how you've done it. I want to use
  • 17:10 - 17:12
all that as part of my plan, but that is
  • 17:12 - 17:17
no problem for Me. I am with you!
  • 17:17 - 17:18
So as we're talking about the deposit
  • 17:18 - 17:20
today, I'm telling you the first thing
  • 17:20 - 17:24
you need to make disciples in your
  • 17:24 - 17:26
home and your work and the place where
  • 17:26 - 17:28
you study and you play and you live,
  • 17:28 - 17:30
the first thing you need is a deposit
  • 17:30 - 17:33
of God's presence in your life!
  • 17:33 - 17:35
It is irrelevant if you've messed up
  • 17:35 - 17:37
or failed or if you're a great or a
  • 17:37 - 17:40
bad businessman, or a great or a bad
  • 17:40 - 17:42
mom. All that stuff has already passed.
  • 17:42 - 17:44
It won't help you to make disciples
  • 17:44 - 17:46
of your children or of your friends
  • 17:46 - 17:48
or co-workers. What you need is a
  • 17:48 - 17:51
deposit of the presence of God in
  • 17:51 - 17:52
your life! You need to know that He
  • 17:52 - 17:54
is dwelling within you. Is somebody
  • 17:54 - 17:58
here today?! That's why Jesus told
  • 17:58 - 18:01
His disciples, you will receive power
  • 18:01 - 18:02
when you receive the Holy Spirit. And
  • 18:02 - 18:06
you will be feeling butterflies on
  • 18:06 - 18:10
Sunday morning. You will feel nice
  • 18:10 - 18:13
and warm and fuzzy when you put
  • 18:13 - 18:15
worship music on. That's not what,
  • 18:15 - 18:18
God will make you feel like that,
  • 18:18 - 18:19
your body has reactions to supernatural
  • 18:19 - 18:22
power. When you touch a plug in the
  • 18:22 - 18:25
    wall, you're gonna get reactions!
  • 18:25 - 18:27
So of course you're going to have
  • 18:27 - 18:28
    reactions to supernatural power.
  • 18:28 - 18:29
But the main point is not for you to
  • 18:29 - 18:31
have a reaction to a supernatural
  • 18:31 - 18:32
power. The point is that the supernatural
  • 18:32 - 18:34
power will help you accomplish a
  • 18:34 - 18:38
    supernatural mission! And until you
  • 18:38 - 18:40
understand that you are put on this
  • 18:40 - 18:43
earth to make disciples, you won't have
  • 18:43 - 18:45
any need for a strong deposit of
  • 18:45 - 18:47
the presence of God. But the moment
  • 18:47 - 18:49
you understand, man, I just can't live
  • 18:49 - 18:52
in my home. I just can't feed my kids
  • 18:52 - 18:55
and take them to school. God has
  • 18:55 - 18:56
called me to make them disciples of
  • 18:56 - 19:01
    Jesus. God, I need You! I don't
  • 19:01 - 19:02
know where to start. I need You!
  • 19:02 - 19:04
Who am I? You know my past and my
  • 19:04 - 19:06
    broken life and my dysfunctional
  • 19:06 - 19:09
family. Who am I to make disciples of
  • 19:09 - 19:10
my kids. God says, don't worry about it.
  • 19:10 - 19:13
I will be with you! My presence will
  • 19:13 - 19:15
be with you! And the deposit of God's
  • 19:15 - 19:17
presence will help you accomplish that
  • 19:17 - 19:20
which He has called you to do.
  • 19:20 - 19:23
    Is somebody here this morning?!
  • 19:23 - 19:24
So Moses says, who am I?
  • 19:24 - 19:25
And God says, irrelevant! I will give
  • 19:25 - 19:27
you My presence. The deposit of
  • 19:27 - 19:29
presence. Somebody say it with me,
  • 19:29 - 19:33
the deposit of presence. And then
  • 19:33 - 19:38
Moses says, okay, well, who are You then?
  • 19:38 - 19:40
Who do I tell them sent me? You are
  • 19:40 - 19:44
with me, but I don't know You.
  • 19:44 - 19:47
They don't know You. Who are You?
  • 19:47 - 19:47
    Because Moses understood he didn't
  • 19:47 - 19:50
only need a deposit of God's presence,
  • 19:50 - 19:53
he needed a deposit of the knowledge
  • 19:53 - 19:56
of God. He needed a deposit of that
  • 19:56 - 19:58
covenant with God. And listen to what
  • 19:58 - 20:01
I am going to say. I am amazed at
  • 20:01 - 20:05
the answer of God when Moses asked Him,
  • 20:05 - 20:08
what is Your name. God tells Moses,
  • 20:08 - 20:11
I am who I am. And that doesn't
  • 20:11 - 20:14
help anybody. Okay, You are. I get it.
  • 20:14 - 20:18
You're too big for a name. You just are.
  • 20:18 - 20:19
But who are You? He says, I am
  • 20:19 - 20:27
the God of Abraham, of Issac, of Jacob.
  • 20:27 - 20:32
    The eternal, uncreated, all-powerful
  • 20:32 - 20:39
God linked His name to broken people.
  • 20:39 - 20:44
He says I am the God of Abraham.
  • 20:44 - 20:45
Have you ever read the story of Abraham?
  • 20:45 - 20:48
That guy, that guy was a fearful, little
  • 20:48 - 20:50
man. They would come to a kingdom,
  • 20:50 - 20:51
and he's like, you're not my wife,
  • 20:51 - 20:53
you're my sister. You're not my wife,
  • 20:53 - 20:54
you're my sister, okay? You too
  • 20:54 - 20:55
beautiful. They will kill me if they
  • 20:55 - 20:57
think you're my wife. You're my
  • 20:57 - 21:00
    sister, okay? Okay. But Abraham
  • 21:00 - 21:05
had a covenant with God. Abraham was
  • 21:05 - 21:09
fearful. He had all kinds of problems
  • 21:09 - 21:11
with his life. He was walking and
  • 21:11 - 21:14
living the life God had for him.
  • 21:14 - 21:16
He wasn't living his own life.
  • 21:16 - 21:17
That is why in Corinthians, Paul says
  • 21:17 - 21:20
in II Corinthians 5, he says, in the
  • 21:20 - 21:24
life we live we live now for Him.
  • 21:24 - 21:25
He says we don't live for us.
  • 21:25 - 21:28
We live for Him who died for us and
  • 21:28 - 21:30
was raised. Many of us just want
  • 21:30 - 21:33
God to fix the lives we live for
  • 21:33 - 21:38
ourselves. But we gotta live for God.
  • 21:38 - 21:39
And that's why Abraham is linked to
  • 21:39 - 21:41
God's name. The God of Abraham.
  • 21:41 - 21:45
    Because Abraham stopped living for
  • 21:45 - 21:47
himself and started living for God.
  • 21:47 - 21:48
You know, having a covenant with Jesus
  • 21:48 - 21:50
is not just believing that He died on
  • 21:50 - 21:52
a cross for you. That's why when
  • 21:52 - 21:53
Peter preached to the people who were
  • 21:53 - 21:57
listening to him in Acts 2, he didn't
  • 21:57 - 21:58
say, O repent, and He will forgive you.
  • 21:58 - 22:01
He said, repent and be baptized.
  • 22:01 - 22:02
    Repent and follow Jesus.
  • 22:02 - 22:04
Because a covenant requires the blood
  • 22:04 - 22:06
of Jesus and requires your full and
  • 22:06 - 22:10
    total commitment to Jesus Christ.
  • 22:10 - 22:11
You know, you can be a broken person
  • 22:11 - 22:14
but you can be following Jesus, you know?
  • 22:14 - 22:18
God somehow has to not just be the
  • 22:18 - 22:20
God of Abraham and the God of Pierre
  • 22:20 - 22:21
and the God of those people who God
  • 22:21 - 22:25
uses. God has to be YOUR God, the
  • 22:25 - 22:26
God you depend on, your personal
  • 22:26 - 22:31
covenantal God. I remember when we
  • 22:31 - 22:33
were going to start ministry and my
  • 22:33 - 22:36
    grandparents. You know, my grandmother
  • 22:36 - 22:39
came to the mission field back in 1948.
  • 22:39 - 22:42
And my grandma and grandpa, they started
  • 22:42 - 22:44
    orphanages and churches. And they
  • 22:44 - 22:47
saw massive miracles. Many times they
  • 22:47 - 22:49
wouldn't have food to feed the kids
  • 22:49 - 22:50
except for a few beans and a few
  • 22:50 - 22:52
tortillas. And my grandma tells me,
  • 22:52 - 22:56
you know, I saw how God multiplied the
  • 22:56 - 22:59
food right before my eyes. And we fed
  • 22:59 - 23:03
    dozens of kids everyday. Miracles!
  • 23:03 - 23:05
And I saw miracles happen for my dad.
  • 23:05 - 23:09
We were a 250 member church. And God
  • 23:09 - 23:12
told my dad, buy that piece of land
  • 23:12 - 23:13
on the outskirts of town. It was worth
  • 23:13 - 23:18
like the value of 32 midsized homes.
  • 23:18 - 23:24
I mean, impossible. 250 people for
  • 23:24 - 23:27
millions. We were like, how are we
  • 23:27 - 23:30
going to do that? That is crazy!
  • 23:30 - 23:33
But God came through. You know?
  • 23:33 - 23:36
Kids sold toys and people sold their
  • 23:36 - 23:38
bikes and their cars and their houses.
  • 23:38 - 23:41
It was just amazing. So all of the
  • 23:41 - 23:43
sudden, now Kelly and I are going to
  • 23:43 - 23:44
    become pastors. And I'm like,
  • 23:44 - 23:51
O Lord, You were with my grandparents.
  • 23:51 - 23:53
You were with my parents and Kelly's
  • 23:53 - 23:57
parents. But I need You to be my God
  • 23:57 - 24:02
now. Because now I've got a mission.
  • 24:02 - 24:04
When you realize that you in school
  • 24:04 - 24:07
are just there to be a nice Christian
  • 24:07 - 24:09
and see no evil, hear no evil,
  • 24:09 - 24:12
    speak no evil, protect yourself.
  • 24:12 - 24:17
The kingdom is not a protected kingdom.
  • 24:17 - 24:19
    It is an offensive kingdom.
  • 24:19 - 24:21
That's why the gates of hell
  • 24:21 - 24:22
will not prevail! Gates aren't an
  • 24:22 - 24:25
attack. Gates are defense. The devil
  • 24:25 - 24:28
    is defending. You are attacking.
  • 24:28 - 24:30
So you're not at school defending
  • 24:30 - 24:32
yourself. You are at school taking
  • 24:32 - 24:35
    over that school for Jesus!
  • 24:35 - 24:38
You're taking that workplace for Jesus.
  • 24:38 - 24:39
You're at home taking that home.
  • 24:39 - 24:41
And so that requires, when you say
  • 24:41 - 24:42
my goodness, I have a mission to change
  • 24:42 - 24:45
my world, then you're like, God,
  • 24:45 - 24:48
I need You! I need to know You!
  • 24:48 - 24:50
I need the deposit of Your presence.
  • 24:50 - 24:52
I need a deposit of the knowledge of
  • 24:52 - 24:54
who You are. You need to be my God.
  • 24:54 - 24:56
I want to live for You!
  • 24:56 - 24:57
I want to see the miracles in my
  • 24:57 - 24:59
life also! Does this make sense or no?
  • 24:59 - 25:04
So Moses gets the deposit of the
  • 25:04 - 25:05
presence of God, the deposit of the
  • 25:05 - 25:09
knowledge of God throughout his life.
  • 25:09 - 25:11
You see later on, if you read Moses'
  • 25:11 - 25:16
story, God says, Moses is My friend.
  • 25:16 - 25:19
He knows Me. You know? I speak to
  • 25:19 - 25:21
him face to face. He is the meekest
  • 25:21 - 25:24
man on earth. And Moses figures out
  • 25:24 - 25:27
    his identity, not because he's
  • 25:27 - 25:29
    psychoanalyzed himself, but because
  • 25:29 - 25:33
he met God. Moses figured out his
  • 25:33 - 25:36
    identity because he accomplished
  • 25:36 - 25:39
God's mission and got a deposit of God.
  • 25:39 - 25:43
So somebody say with me, a deposit of
  • 25:43 - 25:44
the presence of God. A deposit of
  • 25:44 - 25:47
the knowledge of God. God has to be
  • 25:47 - 25:49
my God. Why don't you tap three people
  • 25:49 - 25:50
on the shoulders and say, God has to
  • 25:50 - 25:54
be your God. God has to be your
  • 25:54 - 25:55
personal covenantal God if you're going
  • 25:55 - 25:59
to change your world. I just want to
  • 25:59 - 26:01
hear again, is there somebody in the
  • 26:01 - 26:02
room who wants to change their world
  • 26:02 - 26:06
around them? Does somebody here want
  • 26:06 - 26:08
to change their world in their family
  • 26:08 - 26:10
and in their workplace and in the place
  • 26:10 - 26:12
where they study? So then Moses asked
  • 26:12 - 26:13
another question. He says, how will
  • 26:13 - 26:16
they believe me, that You sent me?
  • 26:16 - 26:19
Okay, you know? You're with me.
  • 26:19 - 26:22
    I'm gonna be knowing You.
  • 26:22 - 26:23
I know You. I'm gonna live for You.
  • 26:23 - 26:24
I'm gonna leave my family behind.
  • 26:24 - 26:25
    I'm gonna know You.
  • 26:25 - 26:28
But how will they believe me,
  • 26:28 - 26:30
that You sent me? And God says, well,
  • 26:30 - 26:33
what is in your hand? He says, a staff.
  • 26:33 - 26:34
So he threw it to the floor and it
  • 26:34 - 26:36
became a snake. Put your hand in
  • 26:36 - 26:38
your cloak. He took it out and
  • 26:38 - 26:40
he had leprosy. His fingers were
  • 26:40 - 26:42
falling off and stuff. Put it back
  • 26:42 - 26:43
in and it was healed. And if that
  • 26:43 - 26:44
doesn't work, He says, I'll give you
  • 26:44 - 26:45
other signs like water turning into
  • 26:45 - 26:48
blood and other stuff like that.
  • 26:48 - 26:50
And so how many guys here would
  • 26:50 - 26:53
think it would be cool at their workplace
  • 26:53 - 26:56
to call your friends into the office.
  • 26:56 - 26:58
Or maybe you do construction and call
  • 26:58 - 27:00
them onto the site, the construction
  • 27:00 - 27:02
site, and grab a 2 x 4 and say, guys,
  • 27:02 - 27:05
I want to talk to you about Jesus, guys.
  • 27:05 - 27:09
See this stick? Bam! A big cobra.
  • 27:09 - 27:15
Or maybe 2 out of the 10, whoa!!
  • 27:15 - 27:17
    I believe, I believe.
  • 27:17 - 27:19
You pick it up again. You guys didn't
  • 27:19 - 27:23
believe? Okay, now your hand is all
  • 27:23 - 27:25
full of leprosy. How many of you
  • 27:25 - 27:29
think that would be at least cool?
  • 27:29 - 27:31
Right. That would be pretty cool.
  • 27:31 - 27:35
So Jesus comes along and He doesn't
  • 27:35 - 27:37
give us sticks to turn into snakes or
  • 27:37 - 27:38
water to turn into blood or hands
  • 27:38 - 27:43
to be full of leprosy. He says, heal
  • 27:43 - 27:47
    the sick, deliver the oppressed.
  • 27:47 - 27:49
He says, but above all, let me give
  • 27:49 - 27:51
you a sign, he says. And it's right
  • 27:51 - 27:55
here in John 34. It says, Jesus says
  • 27:55 - 27:56
a new commandment I give to you, that
  • 27:56 - 27:58
you love one another just as I have
  • 27:58 - 28:01
loved you. How much more do you and
  • 28:01 - 28:03
I have to learn to love if we are
  • 28:03 - 28:05
supposed to love people the way Jesus
  • 28:05 - 28:08
loves us? He says, you are to love
  • 28:08 - 28:10
one another. By this, verse 35, by this
  • 28:10 - 28:14
all people will know that you are My
  • 28:14 - 28:19
disciples. If you have love for one
  • 28:19 - 28:23
another. The main sign that Jesus has
  • 28:23 - 28:24
given us to show people that He is
  • 28:24 - 28:28
real is when we love one another.
  • 28:28 - 28:32
A healthy, loving marriage is a sign
  • 28:32 - 28:37
more powerful than cancer being healed.
  • 28:37 - 28:39
I've had people be healed of cancer and
  • 28:39 - 28:40
they fall away from the Lord.
  • 28:40 - 28:42
Because a healing will impress you
  • 28:42 - 28:43
for awhile, but love will change you
  • 28:43 - 28:50
    forever. A loving, faithful marriage
  • 28:50 - 28:52
is a sign. A loving family is a sign.
  • 28:52 - 28:58
A son who honors his dad.
  • 28:58 - 29:00
A dad who honors his son.
  • 29:00 - 29:02
A mom who loves her kids.
  • 29:02 - 29:04
    And kids who love mom.
  • 29:04 - 29:08
A guy who rejects criticism and slander
  • 29:08 - 29:10
and talking bad about people at work
  • 29:10 - 29:12
    that loves and embraces people.
  • 29:12 - 29:15
A loving church as you are in.
  • 29:15 - 29:17
Not a perfect. Because love cannot
  • 29:17 - 29:20
be proved if there is not hurt.
  • 29:20 - 29:23
So we hurt each other and there is
  • 29:23 - 29:24
junk that goes on and stuff.
  • 29:24 - 29:29
    But love forgives all things.
  • 29:29 - 29:31
    Love heals all things.
  • 29:31 - 29:33
Love expects the best out of us,
  • 29:33 - 29:35
even when we have done our worst
  • 29:35 - 29:37
in the past. And a loving church
  • 29:37 - 29:39
and a loving family and a loving
  • 29:39 - 29:42
college student and a loving kid
  • 29:42 - 29:44
and a loving mom, that is the sign
  • 29:44 - 29:50
    that Jesus is real! No?!
  • 29:50 - 29:54
My dad grew up in a missionary
  • 29:54 - 29:56
    pastor's home, a very dysfunctional
  • 29:56 - 30:00
home. My grandfather left his family
  • 30:00 - 30:04
when my dad was 13 years old. And he
  • 30:04 - 30:06
left and hung out with, I don't know,
  • 30:06 - 30:08
    5, 8, 10 more ladies. I don't know.
  • 30:08 - 30:12
And broke my dad's heart. My dad was
  • 30:12 - 30:13
so angry he wanted to kill my
  • 30:13 - 30:16
grandfather. That was his life's mission
  • 30:16 - 30:18
at 13 years old. This 13-year old kid is
  • 30:18 - 30:24
living to kill. And at 16 the Holy Spirit
  • 30:24 - 30:29
visits my dad, baptizes him with love.
  • 30:29 - 30:29
My dad says, I felt the love of God
  • 30:29 - 30:33
    running through my body, literally,
  • 30:33 - 30:35
he says. At that moment I was healed.
  • 30:35 - 30:38
I forgave my dad. Now my dad, from
  • 30:38 - 30:42
being a hateful, 13-year old kid, is a
  • 30:42 - 30:46
loving man. My mom has suffered from
  • 30:46 - 30:51
    mental illness, depression, bipolar
  • 30:51 - 30:56
and other stuff that I don't wish on my
  • 30:56 - 30:57
worst enemy. And for those who live
  • 30:57 - 30:58
close to a person like that, it is a
  • 30:58 - 31:01
challenge. And my dad has stood by
  • 31:01 - 31:06
my mom like a rock. He has loved her
  • 31:06 - 31:11
more than loving ministry. He has
  • 31:11 - 31:13
loved her and stood by her. Now in
  • 31:13 - 31:16
my grandfather's later years of life,
  • 31:16 - 31:18
he's dying. Nobody wants to care
  • 31:18 - 31:22
for him because he was such a mean guy.
  • 31:22 - 31:24
Now my dad cares for him.
  • 31:24 - 31:27
My dad has brought him back to the Lord
  • 31:27 - 31:29
and has cared for him for the last
  • 31:29 - 31:31
few years, and takes him to the doctor,
  • 31:31 - 31:34
and pays his bills and makes sure he is
  • 31:34 - 31:37
getting watched over. And I'm telling
  • 31:37 - 31:39
you something. If someone can help
  • 31:39 - 31:40
me on the piano. I could argue with
  • 31:40 - 31:45
my dad about God. I used to argue
  • 31:45 - 31:46
about his mistakes and his flaws
  • 31:46 - 31:48
when I was running from the Lord.
  • 31:48 - 31:51
But I could never argue with the
  • 31:51 - 31:54
love of God in his life. I could
  • 31:54 - 31:56
    never argue with the faithfulness
  • 31:56 - 31:57
he showed to my mom and the love he
  • 31:57 - 32:00
showed to us and to other people.
  • 32:00 - 32:02
Because you might not have a powerful
  • 32:02 - 32:06
gifting, but you have a powerful
  • 32:06 - 32:11
God that lives within you. And the
  • 32:11 - 32:13
deposit of God and the deposit of the
  • 32:13 - 32:16
knowledge of God, and the deposit of
  • 32:16 - 32:22
the love of God will help you change
  • 32:22 - 32:24
your world. When your kids see the
  • 32:24 - 32:27
way you love, when your parents see
  • 32:27 - 32:29
the way you love, when your co-workers
  • 32:29 - 32:34
see the way you love, you will start
  • 32:34 - 32:35
making a difference. Tell the three
  • 32:35 - 32:37
people next to you, the deposit of
  • 32:37 - 32:38
the love of God. Come on, tell
  • 32:38 - 32:39
somebody. We need the deposit of the
  • 32:39 - 32:43
love of God. You know, I just want
  • 32:43 - 32:46
to briefly mention the last question
  • 32:46 - 32:52
Moses asked. Moses said, how will I
  • 32:52 - 32:54
speak. Say it with me. How will
  • 32:54 - 32:57
I speak? You know, we sometimes think
  • 32:57 - 33:02
that talking about Jesus or evangelism
  • 33:02 - 33:04
is just learning how to say,
  • 33:04 - 33:06
Jesus loves you. Or it is learning
  • 33:06 - 33:09
the Roman's Road. Or learning how
  • 33:09 - 33:10
to lead somebody step by step into
  • 33:10 - 33:12
    receiving Christ. But really,
  • 33:12 - 33:17
evangelism has more to do with what
  • 33:17 - 33:21
we say in our everyday lives.
  • 33:21 - 33:22
    Because we've adopted the language
  • 33:22 - 33:26
of hate and the language of criticism
  • 33:26 - 33:28
and the language of negativity and
  • 33:28 - 33:31
the language of disbelief and the
  • 33:31 - 33:35
language of suspicion. But when you
  • 33:35 - 33:39
and I study the word of God, and this
  • 33:39 - 33:42
is the deposit of the word of God.
  • 33:42 - 33:43
God tells Moses, I know that you are
  • 33:43 - 33:46
slow to speak. You are not the best
  • 33:46 - 33:47
to talk. But let me tell you
  • 33:47 - 33:51
something, I will be with your mouth.
  • 33:51 - 33:53
And I will teach you what to say.
  • 33:53 - 33:54
One of the biggest and greatest
  • 33:54 - 33:56
deposits of God in someone's life is
  • 33:56 - 33:59
the way that they submit their voice
  • 33:59 - 34:04
and their words to Jesus. When
  • 34:04 - 34:07
somebody talks like Jesus, you know
  • 34:07 - 34:08
they've got a deposit of Jesus in
  • 34:08 - 34:09
their life. You know Jesus wasn't
  • 34:09 - 34:13
always talking about him being the
  • 34:13 - 34:15
    savior. He was talking about
  • 34:15 - 34:16
different things about life. But his
  • 34:16 - 34:19
language was a language of faith,
  • 34:19 - 34:20
a language of love, a language of
  • 34:20 - 34:23
    truth, a language of righteousness,
  • 34:23 - 34:25
a language of hope, a language of
  • 34:25 - 34:28
positive faith in God. And His
  • 34:28 - 34:31
    language impacted people. People said,
  • 34:31 - 34:33
this guy doesn't talk like the
  • 34:33 - 34:35
scribes and the pharisees who just
  • 34:35 - 34:37
talk religion. This guy has authority
  • 34:37 - 34:39
when He talks about stuff! When He
  • 34:39 - 34:40
talks about marriage, He has authority.
  • 34:40 - 34:42
When he talks about kids, He has
  • 34:42 - 34:43
    authority. When he talks about
  • 34:43 - 34:44
    government, He has authority.
  • 34:44 - 34:46
    His language is different.
  • 34:46 - 34:48
    His words are different.
  • 34:48 - 34:49
And that's why it is not just about
  • 34:49 - 34:52
21 days and fasting and coming to
  • 34:52 - 34:54
    chapel, which is so awesome.
  • 34:54 - 34:57
But that is just the doorway into
  • 34:57 - 34:59
a greater deposit of God all this
  • 34:59 - 35:03
year, every day, every week, every
  • 35:03 - 35:05
year. It is just a doorway, you know?
  • 35:05 - 35:07
I don't know how many of you are
  • 35:07 - 35:10
married here today. Do you remember
  • 35:10 - 35:12
when you carried your wife to the
  • 35:12 - 35:22
    entrance of that honeymoon room?
  • 35:22 - 35:25
    That was a little delayed.
  • 35:25 - 35:27
I'll give you another opportunity, guys.
  • 35:27 - 35:29
How many of you remember carrying
  • 35:29 - 35:34
your bride to that honeymoon room?!
  • 35:34 - 35:38
Whatever. You know, you didn't just
  • 35:38 - 35:39
go like, Bam! Throw her in there and
  • 35:39 - 35:43
ooh, this is a nice door.
  • 35:43 - 35:46
I'll wait here at the door.
  • 35:46 - 35:47
    What a beautiful room.
  • 35:47 - 35:49
This door is nice. No, you had
  • 35:49 - 35:53
to get in through that door and
  • 35:53 - 35:58
have fun. You know, the stuff that
  • 35:58 - 35:59
we experience at church is not the
  • 35:59 - 36:02
fullness of Jesus. It is an invitation
  • 36:02 - 36:06
to Jesus. The word on Sunday is an
  • 36:06 - 36:09
    invitation to study the word.
  • 36:09 - 36:10
That is why we take notes and that is
  • 36:10 - 36:12
why we try to dig in deeper.
  • 36:12 - 36:14
Because it is only the door.
  • 36:14 - 36:15
You don't want to live at the door.
  • 36:15 - 36:17
    You want to live inside!
  • 36:17 - 36:19
Fasting in this beginning of the year
  • 36:19 - 36:22
is not the fullness. It is part of
  • 36:22 - 36:24
the fullness, but it is just the door.
  • 36:24 - 36:25
    It is just the beginning.
  • 36:25 - 36:27
So I'm calling this body today to
  • 36:27 - 36:31
change your world in Jesus' name.
  • 36:31 - 36:32
But you can't change it in your own
  • 36:32 - 36:35
strength. You need a deposit from God,
  • 36:35 - 36:37
a deposit of the presence of God,
  • 36:37 - 36:39
a deposit of the name of God,
  • 36:39 - 36:41
    a covenant with God.
  • 36:41 - 36:42
You need a deposit of His love
  • 36:42 - 36:46
and a deposit of His word in your life.
  • 36:46 - 36:48
And Lord, I pray for this awesome body
  • 36:48 - 36:50
today, where those have come for the
  • 36:50 - 36:52
first time or have never given their
  • 36:52 - 36:54
hearts to You. I pray today You
  • 36:54 - 36:56
would grant them faith and repentance,
  • 36:56 - 36:59
that they would follow You today,
  • 36:59 - 37:01
    knowing that You forgive them.
  • 37:01 - 37:03
And You give them a new start.
  • 37:03 - 37:05
And for all of us here, Lord, I pray
  • 37:05 - 37:07
for a fresh deposit of Your presence,
  • 37:07 - 37:12
a fresh commitment to our covenant of
  • 37:12 - 37:14
following You and living for You,
  • 37:14 - 37:17
a fresh deposit of Your love,
  • 37:17 - 37:19
and a fresh deposit of Your word.
  • 37:19 - 37:20
That this year would be a year of
  • 37:20 - 37:22
diving into the word. Give us grace
  • 37:22 - 37:24
to know more about You that our
  • 37:24 - 37:26
words would be seasoned with grace.
  • 37:26 - 37:31
We want to change our world.
  • 37:31 - 37:33
    Make disciples of Jesus.
  • 37:33 - 37:35
    Change our families, our schools,
  • 37:35 - 37:38
    our city, one by one.
  • 37:38 - 37:40
And we can't do that on our own.
  • 37:40 - 37:42
    We need You.
  • 37:42 - 37:44
    In Jesus' name, Amen.
  • 37:44 -
    God bless you!
