January 25 - Are Mission Offerings Still a Thing?

  • 0:01 - 0:03
Have you ever felt as if
    you're putting your money
  • 0:03 - 0:04
    into a black hole
  • 0:04 - 0:07
    when you give
    your weekly Mission offerings?
  • 0:07 - 0:09
Maybe you should think about it more
  • 0:09 - 0:11
as dumping your offerings into the river,
  • 0:11 - 0:13
not to get rid of them
  • 0:13 - 0:16
    but to help Mission
    flourish around the world.
  • 0:17 - 0:20
Mission offerings don't seem to get
    as much attention anymore,
  • 0:20 - 0:24
    yet they're still vitally important
to supporting work around the world.
  • 0:24 - 0:26
Think of your Mission offerings as a river
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    flowing through the entire world,
  • 0:28 - 0:32
    providing life-giving water
to help sustain the mission fields.
  • 0:32 - 0:34
You probably know countries and projects
  • 0:34 - 0:37
    that are supported
by part of your 13th Sabbath offering.
  • 0:37 - 0:39
    But what about
    the regular Mission offerings
  • 0:39 - 0:40
    you give each week?
  • 0:40 - 0:43
    Where do they go?
    What do they support?
  • 0:43 - 0:44
    And what do they achieve?
  • 0:44 - 0:47
You may be surprised to learn
    that your weekly Mission offerings
  • 0:47 - 0:52
help support the work of about
400 missionary families around the world.
  • 0:52 - 0:56
In fact, 70% of the weekly
    Mission offerings each quarter
  • 0:56 - 0:58
    helps to support overseas missionaries
  • 0:58 - 1:01
and the international work of the church.
  • 1:01 - 1:04
    Appropriations from
the General Conference to World Divisions,
  • 1:04 - 1:06
    the Middle East-North Africa
    Union Mission,
  • 1:06 - 1:09
and the Israel Field help these regions
  • 1:09 - 1:12
    build and sustain mission activities
    in their territories,
  • 1:12 - 1:16
    like water irrigating fields
    when there's not enough rain.
  • 1:16 - 1:19
    The remaining money
    helps various institutions and agencies
  • 1:19 - 1:21
    that serve the World Church.
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    For example, it helps
    the compassionate medical mission work
  • 1:24 - 1:26
    of Loma Linda University,
  • 1:26 - 1:28
the outreach of Adventist World Radio,
  • 1:28 - 1:31
and the humanitarian ministry of ADRA,
  • 1:31 - 1:33
    the Adventist Development
    and Relief Agency.
  • 1:34 - 1:38
In recent years, millions of people
from challenging areas of the world
  • 1:38 - 1:40
    have found salvation in Jesus
  • 1:40 - 1:43
    and have joined
    the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • 1:43 - 1:47
    In 2018, every 22 seconds,
  • 1:47 - 1:49
    someone became an Adventist,
  • 1:49 - 1:52
    and every four hours,
    a new church was organized.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
    Thanks to your offerings
    and the global mission focus,
  • 1:55 - 1:59
    thousands of new congregations
have been established in unreached areas
  • 1:59 - 2:01
    and among new people groups.
  • 2:01 - 2:04
    But after these new believers
    have been baptized,
  • 2:04 - 2:06
    how are they nurtured?
  • 2:06 - 2:09
    How do we make sure
that their new faith is strengthened
  • 2:09 - 2:11
    and they grow as disciples?
  • 2:11 - 2:13
    Your River of Mission offerings
  • 2:13 - 2:17
helps grow and sustain new work
    throughout the world.
  • 2:17 - 2:20
    Please, keep this
    live-giving river flowing.
  • 2:20 - 2:23
    Thank you for your faithful
    weekly Mission offerings
  • 2:23 - 2:26
    and your continuing prayers
    for Adventist Mission.
