  • 14:46 - 14:47
It's more this external thing for you."
  • 14:47 - 14:50
    (Tricia Lee) Strong
    rebukes, but there is more.
  • 14:50 - 14:55
Juliana, will you continue reading for
    us Matthew 23, verses 16 through 24?
  • 14:55 - 14:58
(Juliana) Sure, and I will be reading
from the New King James Version:
  • 16:16 - 16:17
    (Tricia Lee) Wow, wow.
  • 16:17 - 16:22
Simiso, summarize for what is Jesus
    rebuking the religious leaders.
  • 16:22 - 16:24
(Simiso) I think Jesus is rebuking
  • 16:24 - 16:28
    the religious leaders to
    be genuine and authentic
  • 16:28 - 16:31
and be all rounded in terms of what
  • 16:31 - 16:33
    Scripture requires of them.
  • 16:33 - 16:35
    (Tricia Lee) That's correct.
  • 16:35 - 16:38
When we look at verses 21 and
22, it seems as though they have
  • 16:38 - 16:41
    a lack of reverence for
    the things that are holy.
  • 16:41 - 16:45
    They're not really reverencing
    what God is saying.
  • 16:45 - 16:47
What do we see in verse 24
  • 16:47 - 16:51
about the tithing of mint and anise?
  • 16:51 - 16:54
    Olric, what is Christ telling
    them or rebuking them for?
  • 16:54 - 16:57
    (Olric) They had this
    teaching back then that they
  • 16:57 - 17:02
were not to eat anything unclean, and
the gnat would be an unclean animal.
  • 17:02 - 17:07
So they will take time to make sure
  • 17:07 - 17:10
that the water does not contain
  • 17:10 - 17:13
any of these little bugs, but, you know,
  • 17:13 - 17:17
    He is saying, "Your hypocrisy
  • 17:17 - 17:23
is so evident; you take time to pay tithe
  • Not Synced
    and cummin and this stuff.
  • Not Synced
    You're being outwardly religious,
  • Not Synced
but inwardly you're not there because
  • Not Synced
things like faith and mercy, love,
  • Not Synced
    that you don't have.
  • Not Synced
    You take time to look
    at these little things,
  • Not Synced
    but there are bigger things
    that you're not doing."
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Have you
    ever heard the phrase,
  • Not Synced
"the letter of the law but
not the spirit of the law,"
  • Not Synced
    being able to keep
    certain requirements
  • Not Synced
    but not really having and
living the love to motivate it?
  • Not Synced
    Let's keep reading.
  • Not Synced
    There's some more rebukes
    that Jesus gives them.
  • Not Synced
Jason, would you read for us
    Matthew 23, verses 25 through 36.
  • Not Synced
    (Jason) I'll be reading from
    the New King James Version.
  • Not Synced
    Matthew chapter 23, verses
    25 through 36, says:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Wow, these
    are some strong words.
  • Not Synced
    I can't even imagine calling
someone a viper or a snake.
  • Not Synced
It's hard to even picture Jesus doing it.
  • Not Synced
You can imagine Him with tears in His eyes
  • Not Synced
telling those people that he loved
  • Not Synced
    those scathing rebukes.
  • Not Synced
Why do you think the rebukes of Jesus
  • Not Synced
    were so harsh?
  • Not Synced
Why was He speaking to them so severely?
  • Not Synced
    Nathan.
  • Not Synced
(Nathan) I think we can read this in two
different ways, but we should read it
  • Not Synced
    thinking of Jesus with tears
in His eyes and in His voice.
  • Not Synced
When you look at the next verse that
follows, verse 37 in Matthew 23.
  • Not Synced
Can I read it from the New King
    James Version, where He says:
  • Not Synced
I mean, the pain in His voice; He's
longing for them to be saved, and He says,
  • Not Synced
"You're not willing to come to it."
  • Not Synced
It reminds me of, I think in Isaiah, God
    speaking through the prophet says,
  • Not Synced
"All day long I stood with My
arms open wide to a stiff-necked
  • Not Synced
    and rebellious people," -- Here
He is calling you to salvation,
  • Not Synced
and you're turning away, not just
turning away but rebelling against Him.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) And it's sad; it's sad.
  • Not Synced
In a previous study, we've talked about
the choices that we all have to make,
  • Not Synced
and that God wants us to choose Him,
  • Not Synced
but we do have the free
    will to choose otherwise.
  • Not Synced
    (Derek) You know, I'm thinking,
  • Not Synced
Tricia Lee, I really appreciate what
Nathan said about the love of Jesus.
  • Not Synced
    And there were some Pharisees,
  • Not Synced
    Nicodemus was a Pharisee
  • Not Synced
and also a member of the Sanhedrin,
  • Not Synced
    who did repent.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Yes, praise God.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) So you know, if Jesus was
  • Not Synced
just kind of harsh and kind of fighting
  • Not Synced
with the weapons of this world
  • Not Synced
    or acting like they acted,
  • Not Synced
    they'd have an excuse,
  • Not Synced
but I think He is speaking
    with love in His heart.
  • Not Synced
    And, praise God, some of
    the Scribes and Pharisees
  • Not Synced
    said, "We need to repent;
  • Not Synced
we need to turn our lives around."
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
  • Not Synced
    Reading through this passage,
  • Not Synced
    something was very interesting,
  • Not Synced
and I'd like to ask the
    class this question:
  • Not Synced
How could He say that the guilt of all
the righteous blood, all the martyrs
  • Not Synced
    would fall on this generation?
  • Not Synced
    What does that mean?
  • Not Synced
How are they guilty of all these things?
  • Not Synced
    They're just living their little lives;
  • Not Synced
how is it that He can say that the
blood of all the righteous from Abel
  • Not Synced
    to Zechariah would fall
    on this generation?
  • Not Synced
Any idea what was the significance
    of that statement, Missy?
  • Not Synced
    (Missy) All throughout the generations,
  • Not Synced
    God has sent prophets,
  • Not Synced
    throughout all ages,
  • Not Synced
    but along with the prophets
    were the dissenters
  • Not Synced
who chose not to listen to them,
and not only that, to oppose them
  • Not Synced
    and even kill the prophets.
  • Not Synced
And they have the same spirit,
  • Not Synced
so this is why they would carry the guilt.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) I think you're right, Missy.
  • Not Synced
Let's turn to Luke chapter 24,
  • Not Synced
and we'll see that the Bible supports
  • Not Synced
    what you just said, Missy.
  • Not Synced
    Luke chapter 24,
  • Not Synced
and, Eric, would you read for us Luke
    chapter 24, verses 25 through 27?
  • Not Synced
    (Eric) I'm reading from the
    New Living Translation,
  • Not Synced
    Luke 24:25-27, and it says:
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Amen, that's right, Missy.
  • Not Synced
    All the prophets were all
    given the same message,
  • Not Synced
the Gospel of Jesus that was
to come, the Messiah to come,
  • Not Synced
they were all testifying to Him,
  • Not Synced
so every generation, when they kept
rejecting the prophets that were sent
  • Not Synced
to them, they were rejecting Christ,
  • Not Synced
    and ultimately when that generation
    rejected Christ, they were rejecting
  • Not Synced
the entire message that had been sent
to them time after time after time.
  • Not Synced
    Jonathan?
  • Not Synced
(Jonathan) Just the fact that not
only did they reject the sayings
  • Not Synced
that were entrusted to them, now
    they came with greater power.
  • Not Synced
I mean, like, when you have
    Christ doing all these miracles,
  • Not Synced
so if they reject Christ, who is
    the fulfillment and testimony
  • Not Synced
    and perfect representation of
    everything they were given,
  • Not Synced
they in essence have rejected it and
    killed everything else before them.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) But, you know, we have no excuse
  • Not Synced
    because we have Jesus,
  • Not Synced
and yet, you know, one of the things
    I've noticed teaching about Jesus,
  • Not Synced
there are many young people who
grow up in a Christian home
  • Not Synced
who have never read the Book of
Matthew or Mark or Luke or John.
  • Not Synced
They have the testimony of Jesus Himself,
  • Not Synced
and yet a lot of times we
    act like it doesn't exist.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) That would be
    the rebuke to our generation.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) I think it would be.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) The rebuke to our generation
  • Not Synced
is that we have this Word that has
    survived generation after generation,
  • Not Synced
    we know that it's been
    preserved through time
  • Not Synced
exactly as it was spoken through
    the prophets and written down,
  • Not Synced
we know the life of Christ, and so here
we are today with such grace, such mercy,
  • Not Synced
and if we still choose not to accept
God, then that's the rebuke that we have
  • Not Synced
    on ourselves.
  • Not Synced
We're going to keep reading now,
  • Not Synced
    and we're going to transition
    now to Matthew chapter 24
  • Not Synced
and get into the real heart of our study.
  • Not Synced
We're going to now see that Jesus leaves
the Temple, again, tears in His eyes.
  • Not Synced
Thank you Nathan, and I believe
He had tears in His eyes, too.
  • Not Synced
Sad that the people were doubting
    Him and not believing Him,
  • Not Synced
    and now we're going to
    see another conversation
  • Not Synced
that He and the disciples get into
that leads us to this amazing prophecy
  • Not Synced
    about the destruction of Jerusalem
as well as the Last Day events.
  • Not Synced
We're going to read in Matthew chapter 24.
  • Not Synced
I'm going to ask Nicole if she
    would start reading for us
  • Not Synced
    Matthew 24, verses 1 through 14.
  • Not Synced
    (Nicole) Matthew 24, verses 1 through 14,
  • Not Synced
    I'm reading from the New
    International Version,
  • Not Synced
    and it says:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Nicole,
    would you pause there?
  • Not Synced
I have a question for the group.
  • Not Synced
What do you think they mean by that?
  • Not Synced
    The "end of the age?"
  • Not Synced
    My New King James Version
says, the "end of the age."
  • Not Synced
    Does anyone's Bible say
    something different?
  • Not Synced
Anyone have "end of the world?"
  • Not Synced
    (Olric) What was happening here,
  • Not Synced
    they were equating whatever destruction
  • Not Synced
    would come to Jerusalem
with the end of the world.
  • Not Synced
So they put the two events together
  • Not Synced
    because this is how they
saw it in their own minds.
  • Not Synced
    That's why they asked Jesus
    the question in that manner.
  • Not Synced
(Missy) It was a dual prophecy.
  • Not Synced
It was talking about two separate events,
  • Not Synced
but they run parallel to each other.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) Well, I think Olric's right,
  • Not Synced
that they thought, "That must be the end
  • Not Synced
of the world, if every stone in this
Temple of God is going to be torn down."
  • Not Synced
We know that it's not going
to be the end of the world,
  • Not Synced
    it's only 40 years later in 70 A.D.
  • Not Synced
    it will be fulfilled, but
    I think in their minds,
  • Not Synced
as Olric said, they're thinking that
must be one and the same thing
  • Not Synced
as the end of all things.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Yes, one thing's for certain,
  • Not Synced
if we have questions on what that means
  • Not Synced
    we're going to find out
    as we keep reading,
  • Not Synced
but certainly as we listen to
what's going to be read to us
  • Not Synced
as we continue in chapter 24.
  • Not Synced
The end of the age - it
    was something drastic.
  • Not Synced
The end of the world is
    what you described, Olric,
  • Not Synced
and that's the context that the
disciples had in asking this question,
  • Not Synced
what is the site of this big,
    grand, finale, if you would.
  • Not Synced
So Nicole, please keep reading for us.
  • Not Synced
    (Nicole) I'm reading from
    verse 4 of Matthew 24.
  • Not Synced
    It says:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
  • Not Synced
    Missy, you were right that
    this is dual prophecy,
  • Not Synced
so we're going to continue reading
  • Not Synced
and skip down to verses 21 through 28
  • Not Synced
    about the prophecy regarding
the last days and the end times.
  • Not Synced
I'm going to ask Alex if he would
read for us verses 21 through 28.
  • Not Synced
(Alex) Sure, and I'll be reading
    from the King James Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen.
  • Not Synced
    One last set of verses,
  • Not Synced
    Nancy, would you please read
verses 32 and 33 for us?
  • Not Synced
    (Nancy) Okay, and this is
    from Matthew 24, verse 32
  • Not Synced
in the New King James Version:
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Amen, at the doors.
  • Not Synced
So let's talk about these amazing,
    amazing Scriptures, amazing prophecy,
  • Not Synced
Jesus letting us know what to expect
  • Not Synced
    in the last days.
  • Not Synced
What signs of the last days do
you see even today taking place?
  • Not Synced
    Olric.
  • Not Synced
(Olric) Wars, rumors of wars, you
    have nation rising against nation,
  • Not Synced
    and it's becoming more prevalent,
  • Not Synced
    but not just more prevalent,
  • Not Synced
    but they're using more
    sophisticated weapons
  • Not Synced
    for their warfare,
  • Not Synced
    and it doesn't, you
    know, seem to be ending.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) OKay, Juliana.
  • Not Synced
    (Juliana) Olric mentions
    things that are involving man,
  • Not Synced
    but I think that the
    Earth is also groaning.
  • Not Synced
    We're seeing more and
    more earthquakes.
  • Not Synced
    I think of what happened
not that long ago in Nepal,
  • Not Synced
and there's also been things in Mexico
  • Not Synced
and in Africa and just all over the world.
  • Not Synced
We have earthquakes, we have famines.
  • Not Synced
    There's things happening in rivers,
  • Not Synced
    that animals are dying,
  • Not Synced
    and the environment...it's groaning;
  • Not Synced
it's asking for Christ to come back.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Alex.
  • Not Synced
(Alex) I think there are many
    false prophets now, too.
  • Not Synced
Just more and more all the time I
    see preachers and pastors coming
  • Not Synced
    out with these end-time preachings
and end-time things, and even a lot
  • Not Synced
    of our friends are really
    getting into these things,
  • Not Synced
"Here, check out this message," and such.
  • Not Synced
And it's like, wow, if I didn't know the
truth, this would be so easy to believe.
  • Not Synced
You know, how they point things out in the
world, but it's so easy to be deceived.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Jonathan.
  • Not Synced
(Jonathan) I think it's interesting to
look at the things He chooses and how
  • Not Synced
    He lays them out.
  • Not Synced
I feel like in some sense He kind of
picks the things, not so much that we can
  • Not Synced
calculate the end of time, but more to
say, okay, what do we need to look at
  • Not Synced
because, I mean, a lot of the things
He lays out happen throughout history.
  • Not Synced
The church was persecuted, you have
earthquakes, I mean, that's been happening
  • Not Synced
    for a lot of time.
  • Not Synced
And certainly He does say things
that get close to the end of time,
  • Not Synced
but I think also He's just saying for
the disciples and for us in general
  • Not Synced
a way to look at the world and to
have our hearts...and how to respond
  • Not Synced
    to the things that happen.
  • Not Synced
So I think it's kind of, "how to
live in the context of My Coming."
  • Not Synced
(Derek) And I think the positive thing
  • Not Synced
    is the Gospel is going
to go to the whole world,
  • Not Synced
and then the end's going to come.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Yes.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) You know, I think the joy we have
  • Not Synced
as a little team, Hope Sabbath School,
  • Not Synced
is that we're a little part of that,
  • Not Synced
and technology even in the lifetime
  • Not Synced
    of many of our viewers,
  • Not Synced
    there's been a revolution
    in terms of communication.
  • Not Synced
    And, of course, the Enemy's
    wanting to use that,
  • Not Synced
as Alex said, to promote false ideas
  • Not Synced
    and just idolatry,
  • Not Synced
but I believe God's going to use that
  • Not Synced
    by His Spirit, too.
  • Not Synced
We're on the brink of where the Message
  • Not Synced
can go rapidly around the world.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen.
  • Not Synced
    Alex, you mentioned the false
christs that come in the last days,
  • Not Synced
    what's our safeguard against
  • Not Synced
the deception of a false christ, or
  • Not Synced
    let's talk some more about
    what does that look like,
  • Not Synced
a false christ or someone that's
coming in the name of Christ, Olric.
  • Not Synced
    (Olric) I've looked through
    the Old Testament,
  • Not Synced
and I've seen some scenarios where
  • Not Synced
    false messages were
    brought to God's people.
  • Not Synced
We see in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve
  • Not Synced
    with the Devil tempting
    them with false words.
  • Not Synced
Even in the case of in a
    previous study we did Jeremiah,
  • Not Synced
we see Jeremiah being countered there by
an individual by the name of Hananiah.
  • Not Synced
The problem with these false christs,
  • Not Synced
    false teachers, they propel messages
  • Not Synced
that seem to distract God's people
  • Not Synced
from God's way of doing things, the way
  • Not Synced
    God had commanded.
  • Not Synced
And the way to counter this,
  • Not Synced
as we will see from the Word of God,
  • Not Synced
    is through the truth
    like Isaiah 8, verse 20.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Let's go there.
  • Not Synced
    Let's go there, Isaiah 8, verse 20,
  • Not Synced
and Olric, will you read that for us?
  • Not Synced
    (Olric) Isaiah 8, verse 20,
  • Not Synced
reading from the King James Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Wow.
  • Not Synced
So what I heard you say, Olric, is
  • Not Synced
    there may not just be
    manifestations of people
  • Not Synced
    saying that they
    are a false messiah
  • Not Synced
to physically "follow me," but even
    teachings of false Christianity
  • Not Synced
that can also be a way to deceive people
  • Not Synced
    in the last days.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) Right, and I think Alex made a really important point
  • Not Synced
when he said, "I could follow what some of my friends are saying
  • Not Synced
if I didn't study the Word."
  • Not Synced
Because these people, they do signs and wonders, it says,
  • Not Synced
    and they're religious;
  • Not Synced
they're false christs and false prophets,
  • Not Synced
so they speak about maybe needing
  • Not Synced
to be close to God, and, you know,
  • Not Synced
    it all sounds good,
  • Not Synced
    but it's false.
  • Not Synced
    So, you know, we shouldn't
    try to [point out],
  • Not Synced
"Oh, is that false;" we should be focusing
  • Not Synced
on the true and on Jesus
    who is the true Christ,
  • Not Synced
because when we see the false
  • Not Synced
    we will immediately recognize
  • Not Synced
    that it isn't the truth.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) There's another promise
    that Jesus Himself has made
  • Not Synced
    to His believers, and
    I'm going to ask Missy
  • Not Synced
if she would read for us John
    chapter 10, verses 27 and 28.
  • Not Synced
    John chapter 10:27, 28.
  • Not Synced
And it is a bit scary for some to
think that you could be deceived
  • Not Synced
by false teachers and false miracles
  • Not Synced
and false people to lead us astray,
  • Not Synced
but I thank God that He has
    this promise recorded for us.
  • Not Synced
    (Derek) Amen.
  • Not Synced
    (Missy) I'm reading from the
    New International Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Derek) Amen.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee, Team) Amen.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) We are safe
    in the hands of Jesus.
  • Not Synced
    "My sheep hear my voice...
    and they will follow."
  • Not Synced
    Thank you for reading that
    Scripture in Isaiah, Olric.
  • Not Synced
If there is a message or a person that's
not speaking according to the Word of God,
  • Not Synced
then that's an alarm for us,
  • Not Synced
    but He's also promised
    that He will keep us,
  • Not Synced
that we will recognize His voice, and
I believe there are so many examples
  • Not Synced
in the Bible of the Lord
    revealing Himself to His people,
  • Not Synced
    literally leading His people through
the wilderness by day and by night,
  • Not Synced
and so even in the midst of strong
    deception in the last days,
  • Not Synced
if we keep our eyes on Jesus,
    He will see us through.
  • Not Synced
    Simiso, let's read another
    promise from the Lord
  • Not Synced
on why we shouldn't be afraid
  • Not Synced
    and should not be discouraged.
  • Not Synced
    Simiso, would you read John
    chapter 14, verses 1 through 3.
  • Not Synced
Why we should not be afraid
    of these last day events.
  • Not Synced
    (Simiso) John 14, verses 1 through 3,
  • Not Synced
    and I'm reading from the
    New King James Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen.
  • Not Synced
So the last days are a necessary step
  • Not Synced
in the process of getting us closer
  • Not Synced
    to going Home.
  • Not Synced
Jesus is coming back to take us Home
  • Not Synced
to be with Him, and as
    scary as last day events,
  • Not Synced
    wars and earthquakes and pestilence
  • Not Synced
    and family members betraying
    one another, may sound,
  • Not Synced
God has promised to keep us
  • Not Synced
and the promise is that when He returns
  • Not Synced
He is going to take us Home with Him.
  • Not Synced
    (Derek, Tricia Lee) Praise God.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Missy mentioned earlier
  • Not Synced
that there was a dual prophecy,
  • Not Synced
    that the disciples were thinking
  • Not Synced
    about the destruction of Jerusalem,
  • Not Synced
    and Jesus answered their question
  • Not Synced
    about when those things
    would take place as well.
  • Not Synced
    Let's read the verses
    where Jesus describes
  • Not Synced
    the destruction of Jerusalem.
  • Not Synced
Eric, would you read for us Matthew
  • Not Synced
    chapter 24, verses 15 through 20?
  • Not Synced
    (Eric) I'm reading from
    the New Living Translation,
  • Not Synced
    and it says:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
  • Not Synced
Gary, we talked a bit earlier about
it being difficult for the disciples
  • Not Synced
to think about the destruction of
Jerusalem to happen at any other time
  • Not Synced
than at the end of the world.
  • Not Synced
    Why was that?
  • Not Synced
Why did they connect the two together?
  • Not Synced
(Gary) I guess how they related
  • Not Synced
    to the Temple, their mission;
  • Not Synced
    they're the people of God.
  • Not Synced
They couldn't get past the fact that
  • Not Synced
if this is not going to
    be in existence anymore,
  • Not Synced
    than that must mean everything
    must be falling apart.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) You know, I think they're trusting
  • Not Synced
in the building rather than in God.
  • Not Synced
And before we judge them and go,
  • Not Synced
"That's really foolish," I think we could
  • Not Synced
    trust in our institutions,
  • Not Synced
we could trust in our organization,
  • Not Synced
and the truth of the matter is,
  • Not Synced
    before this is all over,
  • Not Synced
a lot of those things could collapse.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) That's true, it's true.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) And all we have is
to hold on to our Savior,
  • Not Synced
    you know, because we know
    that He's going through.
  • Not Synced
    He's going to take us
    through to the very end.
  • Not Synced
But lest we be too hard on them, I think
  • Not Synced
    they associated confidence in God,
  • Not Synced
    now it's the building,
  • Not Synced
and pretty soon God's kind of set aside,
  • Not Synced
    and they're just trusting
    in their structures.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) You're absolutely right.
  • Not Synced
We're going to have to let go
of a lot of ideas that we have,
  • Not Synced
    things that we hold dear,
  • Not Synced
to accept Jesus and in His return.
  • Not Synced
Juliana, would you read for us.
  • Not Synced
Let's turn to Philippians chapter 3:7-8,
  • Not Synced
and we'll hear an account of someone
  • Not Synced
who had to let go of some
    things they held dear.
  • Not Synced
    Philippians chapter 3, verses 7 and 8.
  • Not Synced
    (Juliana) I'm reading from
    the New King James Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen!
  • Not Synced
What we didn't read is that previously
  • Not Synced
we're hearing an account of having
confidence in self and being able
  • Not Synced
to keep the Law and being
    of the stock of Israel,
  • Not Synced
all the things that I'm sure the disciples
  • Not Synced
are very proud of in thinking about
  • Not Synced
    the institution and the Temple.
  • Not Synced
They had to let those things go,
  • Not Synced
and surely we will have to
let some things go, as well,
  • Not Synced
    to accept Christ.
  • Not Synced
We talked in a previous study
    about falling on the Rock,
  • Not Synced
    submitting to Christ
  • Not Synced
and learning to count the things of
God as gain and learning how to let go.
  • Not Synced
Let's keep reading in Matthew chapter 24.
  • Not Synced
    Not only does Jesus tell
    us what to look for
  • Not Synced
in His coming, but He gives
us a description of His coming,
  • Not Synced
and certainly this is key because
  • Not Synced
    we're watching and we're waiting,
  • Not Synced
and we want to be ready when He comes,
  • Not Synced
and we want to know what we're looking for
  • Not Synced
    when He comes.
  • Not Synced
So, Nathan, would you please read for us
  • Not Synced
    Matthew 24, verses 27 through 31?
  • Not Synced
(Nathan) All right, I'll be reading
from the New King James Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen! Amen.
  • Not Synced
What are some of the characteristics
  • Not Synced
    and aspects of Jesus' coming?
  • Not Synced
What do we learn from this passage?
  • Not Synced
    (Nicole) Everyone will
    see Him when He comes.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) It's visible.
  • Not Synced
(Nicole) Yes, we will see Him.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) So it looks like
there are a lot of angels.
  • Not Synced
    You can't miss the whole
    angels of the Heavenly Host.
  • Not Synced
    What else do we learn?
  • Not Synced
    (Olric) The trumpet sound.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) So it's loud; it's audible.
  • Not Synced
Okay, what else have we learned here?
  • Not Synced
    (Jason) There will be
    some signs of the heavens
  • Not Synced
    that precede the coming,
  • Not Synced
    particularly with the
    sun, moon, and stars.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Anything else?
  • Not Synced
    (Derek) And it's dramatic.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Yes.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) It's not just, "Oh, I think
  • Not Synced
    I see something."
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Yes.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) It's like lightening from the east
  • Not Synced
all the way to the west,
  • Not Synced
and I think that's important, because,
  • Not Synced
    you know, Jesus talks about,
is this secret or is it...
  • Not Synced
I think it's a surprise, even for those
  • Not Synced
of us who are looking for His coming,
  • Not Synced
    when it actually happens.
  • Not Synced
    If it happened in the
    middle of this broadcast,
  • Not Synced
you know I'd use my favorite Hebrew word,
  • Not Synced
Hallelujah, but I would be surprised
  • Not Synced
because I thought we were going to finish
  • Not Synced
    the program, right?
  • Not Synced
    Yeah, but it's not secret.
  • Not Synced
    It's not secret;
  • Not Synced
it's visible, audible, but it's dramatic
  • Not Synced
like lightening from the east to the west.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) My version of the Bible
  • Not Synced
says that "the powers of the
    heavens will be shaken."
  • Not Synced
    I can't even imagine what that's like,
  • Not Synced
but I feel like we won't miss when
  • Not Synced
    the heavens are shaking.
  • Not Synced
This is a dramatic, dramatic occurence.
  • Not Synced
    We'll all see it.
  • Not Synced
    We will not miss it.
  • Not Synced
    What else can we learn
    about Jesus' coming?
  • Not Synced
    Let's turn over to
    1 Thessalonians chapter 4
  • Not Synced
    where there's another description of
some of the what that takes place
  • Not Synced
and the how that takes place
  • Not Synced
    when Jesus comes.
  • Not Synced
    1 Thessalonians chapter 4,
    verses 15 through 17.
  • Not Synced
I'll ask Gary to read that for us.
  • Not Synced
(Gary) Sure, and I'll be reading
from the New King James Version:
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) What else is happening
  • Not Synced
    at the coming of Jesus?
  • Not Synced
    We're not going to miss
    any of these things.
  • Not Synced
I heard again, the loud shout,
  • Not Synced
    the Lord Himself is coming,
  • Not Synced
    the Archangel.
  • Not Synced
    I can imagine the Archangel
    and the Lord are shouting.
  • Not Synced
This is going to be a loud shout.
  • Not Synced
    What else do we see?
  • Not Synced
(Nathan) In verse 15, we read that
    there would be a resurrection.
  • Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Yes, hard to miss!
  • Not Synced
(Nathan) We're not going to Heaven
  • Not Synced
    without the ones...I think probably
the Thessalonians were writing to Paul
  • Not Synced
and saying, "What about our loved
ones who have fallen asleep in Jesus?
  • Not Synced
Are we going to go to Heaven when Jesus
comes, and we leave them behind?"
  • Not Synced
He says, "No, before we go, they're
going to be raised from the Earth."
  • Not Synced
    So that's something that we
    won't really miss, will we?
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) No, we won't.
  • Not Synced
(Nathan) It's hard to miss that.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) I think growing up I thought the
loud shout was like, "Yo!" you know?
  • Not Synced
    But I think the shout
    is, "Awake!" you know,
  • Not Synced
    because the Scripture speaks about
awake, you who sleep in the dust.
  • Not Synced
    It's like, "Lazarus, come forth!"
  • Not Synced
    when Jesus raises Lazarus.
  • Not Synced
So it's not just, "Yo!" you know?
  • Not Synced
    It's a shout that will conquer death;
  • Not Synced
    it will defeat death.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Iv'e even
    imagined to myself sometimes,
  • Not Synced
    like, "Honey, I'm home!"
  • Not Synced
We're the Bride and He's coming, right?
  • Not Synced
    With excitement, He's here.
  • Not Synced
Let's not forget, though, why Jesus
  • Not Synced
was so sad in rebuking the Pharisees
  • Not Synced
and the Scribes and the religious leaders
  • Not Synced
in Jerusalem who had rejected Him.
  • Not Synced
    It was because He realized
  • Not Synced
    that at His coming there
    will be no second chance,
  • Not Synced
    that things are final.
  • Not Synced
    Our destinies will be decided
    by Christ the Judge,
  • Not Synced
    and that's why He had
    those tears in His eyes,
  • Not Synced
    because He knew their
    salvation was on the line.
  • Not Synced
    Let's look at some verses
  • Not Synced
    again in Matthew chapter 24
  • Not Synced
because there are some who believe
that there is a second chance,
  • Not Synced
that when Jesus comes again there's
another chance to get things right.
  • Not Synced
But we will learn that it really is
the end of time, the end of the age,
  • Not Synced
    the end of the world,
  • Not Synced
and how important it is for us to make
our choice and our decision for Him now
  • Not Synced
    and today.
  • Not Synced
Olric, will you read for us
    Matthew 24, verses 36 through 42?
  • Not Synced
    36 through 42.
  • Not Synced
    (Olric) Reading from
    the King James Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, thank you.
  • Not Synced
    Particularly verses 40 and 41,
  • Not Synced
there are some that believe that there is
    something called the "Secret Rapture,"
  • Not Synced
that the Lord will come at one point and
take some chosen people away secretly,
  • Not Synced
and others will not know, and that those
who are left behind have a second chance
  • Not Synced
for some period of time to get
things right before He comes again.
  • Not Synced
But what we've learned so far and
what these texts are describing to us
  • Not Synced
is...Well, the first thing we can say
about the women is that they are
  • Not Synced
    kind of going along in
    their everyday lives, right?
  • Not Synced
    They are going along, it's
    business as usual, right?
  • Not Synced
    They are at the mill,
    is that where they are?
  • Not Synced
Grinding at the mill, and so exactly
    what Pastor Derek described
  • Not Synced
about, we could be filming one
    of these Sabbath School lessons,
  • Not Synced
    and the Lord could come.
  • Not Synced
    We're going about our
    lives; it's a surprise.
  • Not Synced
It catches us suddenly, and that's
the shock that can be with two people
  • Not Synced
working at a mill or two
    people sleeping in bed.
  • Not Synced
    Yes.
  • Not Synced
(Olric) Notice what is being said here.
  • Not Synced
In this passage, Jesus is not
saying that you should not work.
  • Not Synced
This is daily work that they are doing.
  • Not Synced
The problem is, is that these
    two passages, 40 and 41,
  • Not Synced
are in the context of Jesus saying that,
  • Not Synced
    "My coming will be a
    surprise," not a secret,
  • Not Synced
    just a surprise,
  • Not Synced
    because it will be loud,
  • Not Synced
    it will be visible.
  • Not Synced
But the surprise is, it will come at
a time when people least expect it
  • Not Synced
because many folks, as He's saying here,
  • Not Synced
will be going about their daily work...
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Eating, drinking.
  • Not Synced
    (Olric) ...doing all this stuff
    without getting themselves ready.
  • Not Synced
    (Derek) You know, there are
    many sincere Christians
  • Not Synced
who may believe in a Secret
    Rapture of the saints
  • Not Synced
    and then another chance,
  • Not Synced
and certainly we may not have
    everything right about Scripture,
  • Not Synced
and we know if we love Jesus, and
    we've accepted His salvation,
  • Not Synced
    that whenever He comes
    we'll be ready, right?
  • Not Synced
    So we're not saved by
    correct understanding.
  • Not Synced
The danger is that people would put off
  • Not Synced
    until tomorrow the commitment
    they need to make today
  • Not Synced
and say, "Well, maybe when they
go I can make another chance,"
  • Not Synced
and that's, of course, the deception
  • Not Synced
    because the Bible say,
"Today, if you hear His voice,
  • Not Synced
    do not harden your heart."
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
  • Not Synced
    Well, let's read another
    Scripture one chapter over,
  • Not Synced
    Matthew chapter 25,
    verses 31 through 34,
  • Not Synced
and I will ask Simiso to read that for us,
  • Not Synced
    Matthew 25:31-34.
  • Not Synced
It will give us a little bit more insight
  • Not Synced
about what happens when the Lord comes
  • Not Synced
and this idea of being taken.
  • Not Synced
    (Simiso) Matthew 25:31-34, I'm reading
from the New King James Version:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
  • Not Synced
    When Jesus comes, His
    coming is not a secret.
  • Not Synced
It may be a surprise to some who
are going about their everyday lives
  • Not Synced
    not watching, not being ready,
  • Not Synced
but it's His judgment that determines
  • Not Synced
who's on the left, who's on the right,
  • Not Synced
    who's taken to be with
    Him when He returns.
  • Not Synced
Again, Jesus knew this, and that's why
  • Not Synced
He pleaded and begged because He knew
  • Not Synced
that the choices we make today,
  • Not Synced
the choices they made in that day,
  • Not Synced
    were what would determine
  • Not Synced
whether they would be on the right hand
  • Not Synced
    or on the left hand,
  • Not Synced
    whether they'd be taken
    back Home with Him.
  • Not Synced
(Derek) And those who are left...
  • Not Synced
    I think this is really important;
  • Not Synced
    you've been emphasizing
    the need for a decision.
  • Not Synced
We read that where the body is,
  • Not Synced
    there the vultures will gather.
  • Not Synced
    As we study Scripture,
  • Not Synced
    those who are left are
    not left to continue on,
  • Not Synced
but they are destroyed by the
    brightness of Christ's coming,
  • Not Synced
and that's why we need to
    make our decision today.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
  • Not Synced
Well, let's wrap up our study
  • Not Synced
    in learning what it means
    to watch and be ready
  • Not Synced
and how we should act when we
know that the Lord is coming.
  • Not Synced
Jason, would you read for us
  • Not Synced
    verses 42 through 51 of Matthew 24?
  • Not Synced
    (Jason) I'll be reading from
    the New King James Version,
  • Not Synced
    Matthew chapter 24, verses 42 through 51:
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Oh, mercy.
  • Not Synced
Olric, quickly, how can we be
    ready for Jesus' Second Coming?
  • Not Synced
    (Olric) Simple, get ourselves ready
  • Not Synced
    spiritually first through our
    commitment to Jesus Christ,
  • Not Synced
and use that commitment to reach others.
  • Not Synced
    (Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
  • Not Synced
Thank you for this wonderful study,
  • Not Synced
and let's continue to thank God that He
reveals to us the things that will come
  • Not Synced
in the future through His Word, amen.
  • Not Synced
    (Derek) Thank you, Tricia Lee.
  • Not Synced
    What an amazing study,
  • Not Synced
and thank you for joining us
    for Hope Sabbath School today.
  • Not Synced
Jesus wants you to be ready.
  • Not Synced
He wants you to know peace and joy today,
  • Not Synced
even in the midst of the
    difficulties around you.
  • Not Synced
I want to pray that you'd
    make that commitment today,
  • Not Synced
    just as Olric said, today,
  • Not Synced
that you'll trust Christ as your Savior
  • Not Synced
while we have this wonderful opportunity.
  • Not Synced
    Let's pray.
  • Not Synced
    Our Father in Heaven, we
don't want to take for granted
  • Not Synced
    the great privilege of
    learning the truth about Jesus
  • Not Synced
and accepting Him as our Savior
  • Not Synced
    while there is still time.
  • Not Synced
I pray for each one who
    hears this prayer today,
  • Not Synced
    that we may make our
    calling and election sure
  • Not Synced
    by trusting Jesus as our
    Savior and soon-coming King.
