(Tricia Lee) I am so excited that God
-
Not Synced
has not left us in the dark about
what to expect will happen
-
Not Synced
in the Last Days.

Some people are very anxious
or nervous about the things

Some people have heard rumors or

will come in the Last Days.
-
Not Synced
(Derek, Team) Amen.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Let us turn our study
-
Not Synced
to the Book of Matthew chapter 23.
-
Not Synced
Before we hear what Jesus
teaches about the Last Days,
-
Not Synced
first we find our study right
after the Triumphal Entry.
-
Not Synced
Jesus has entered Jerusalem, and
He has met the religious leaders,
-
Not Synced
and unfortunately they are filled
with envy and anger towards Him,
-
Not Synced
and with a sorrowful heart He beings
to pronounce series of woes to them.
-
Not Synced
Woe means misery or trouble to come,
-
Not Synced
bad things that are happening, so
He's arning them about the condition
-
Not Synced
of their hard hearts and what that means.
-
Not Synced
So let's see first, before
we talk about the Last Days,
-
Not Synced
what Christ says to the religious
leaders and to the people at the time
-
Not Synced
about these woes, this miserable
condition that they are unfortunately now
-
Not Synced
finding themselves in
because they've rejected Him.
-
Not Synced
Let's start in Matthew chapter 23.
-
Not Synced
I'll ask Gary if he would
please read for us
-
Not Synced
Matthew chapter 23, verses 1 through 12.
-
Not Synced
(Gary) Okay, I'll be reading
from the New King James Version:
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Amen.
-
Not Synced
So before addressing the
Scribes and Pharisees,
-
Not Synced
Christ first addresses the people,
-
Not Synced
and He actually gives them some warnings.
-
Not Synced
Nicole, would you summarize for us
-
Not Synced
what has Christ warned the people
about in the verses we just read.
-
Not Synced
(Nicole) Sure, I'm thinking back
to humility again and not being
-
Not Synced
caught up in names and being
in certain places in society,
-
Not Synced
and so I think He is warning
against being kind of hypocrites,
-
Not Synced
you know, saying one thing out of
your mouth, but acting and living
-
Not Synced
a way that's not reflecting
what you're saying.
-
Not Synced
So I think this whole kind of 12 verses
talks about hypocrisy and warning
-
Not Synced
against living a life that
you're not actually living.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) That's correct.
-
Not Synced
Let's keep reading now
n verses 13 through 15,
-
Not Synced
where now Jesus is speaking directly
-
Not Synced
to the religious leaders and
pronounces these woes upon them.
-
Not Synced
Olric will you please read
Matthew chapter 23:13-15?
-
Not Synced
(Olric) Yes, I'll be reading
from the King James Version:
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Wow, wow, strong words
-
Not Synced
from Jesus here.
-
Not Synced
Jonathan,would you summarize for us
-
Not Synced
what is the rebuke that Jesus is giving
to the Scribes and Pharisees here?
-
Not Synced
(Jonathan) It seems like
He is just underpinning
-
Not Synced
their whole approach to the religion.
-
Not Synced
They had set up all these rules and
set up all these different things,
-
Not Synced
and He's calling their bluff.
-
Not Synced
It's like, "You talk about My Kingdom,
-
Not Synced
but you don't actually want people in;
-
Not Synced
you don't invite people to
really live these things out.
-
Not Synced
It's more this external thing for you."
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Strong
rebukes, but there is more.
-
Not Synced
Juliana, will you continue reading for
us Matthew 23, verses 16 through 24?
-
Not Synced
(Juliana) Sure, and I will be reading
from the New King James Version:
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Wow, wow.
-
Not Synced
Simiso, summarize for what is Jesus
rebuking the religious leaders.
-
Not Synced
(Simiso) I think Jesus is rebuking
-
Not Synced
the religious leaders to
be genuine and authentic
-
Not Synced
and be ____16:30 rounded in terms of what
-
Not Synced
Scripture requires of them.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) That's correct.
-
Not Synced
When we look at verses 21 and
22, it seems as though they have
-
Not Synced
a lack of reverence for
the things that are holy.
-
Not Synced
They're not really reverencing
what God is saying.
-
Not Synced
What do we see in verse 24
-
Not Synced
about the tithing of mint and anise?
-
Not Synced
Olric, what is Christ telling them or
for what is Christ rebuking them?
-
Not Synced
(Olric) They had this teaching
back then that they were not
-
Not Synced
to eat anything unclean, and the
gnat would be an unclean animal.
-
Not Synced
So they will take time to make sure
-
Not Synced
that the water does not contain any
-
Not Synced
of these little bugs, but, you know,
-
Not Synced
He is saying, "Your hypocrisy
-
Not Synced
is so evident; you take time to pay tithe
-
Not Synced
and cummin and this stuff.
-
Not Synced
You're being outwardly religious,
-
Not Synced
but inwardly you're not there because
-
Not Synced
things like faith and mercy, love,
-
Not Synced
that you don't have.
-
Not Synced
You take time to look
at these little things,
-
Not Synced
but there are bigger things
that you're not doing."
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Have you
ever heard the phrase,
-
Not Synced
"the letter of the law but
not the spirit of the law,"
-
Not Synced
being able to keep
certain requirements
-
Not Synced
but not really having and
living the love to motivate it?
-
Not Synced
Let's keep reading.
-
Not Synced
There's some more rebukes
that Jesus gives them.
-
Not Synced
Jason, would you read for us
Matthew 23, verses 25 through 36.
-
Not Synced
(Jason) I'll be reading from
the New King James Version.
-
Not Synced
Matthew chapter 23, verses
25 through 36, says:
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Wow, these
are some strong words.
-
Not Synced
I can't even imagine calling
someone a viper or a snake.
-
Not Synced
It's hard to even picture Jesus doing it.
-
Not Synced
You can imagine Him with tears in His eyes
-
Not Synced
telling those people that he loved
-
Not Synced
those scathing rebukes.
-
Not Synced
Why do you think the rebukes of Jesus
-
Not Synced
were so harsh?
-
Not Synced
Why was He speaking to them so severely?
-
Not Synced
Nathan.
-
Not Synced
(Nathan) I think we can read this in two
different ways, but we should read it
-
Not Synced
thinking of Jesus with tears
in His eyes and in His voice.
-
Not Synced
When you look at the next verse that
follows, verse 37 in Matthew 23.
-
Not Synced
Can I read it from the New King
James Version, where He says:
-
Not Synced
I mean, the pain in His voice; He's
longing for them to be saved, and He says,
-
Not Synced
"You're not willing to come to it."
-
Not Synced
It reminds me of, I think in Isaiah, God
speaking through the prophet says,
-
Not Synced
"All day long I stood with My
arms open wide to a stiff-necked
-
Not Synced
and rebellious people," -- Here
He is calling you to salvation,
-
Not Synced
and you're turning away, not just
turning away but rebelling against Him.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) And it's sad; it's sad.
-
Not Synced
In a previous study, we've talked about
the choices that we all have to make,
-
Not Synced
and that God wants us to choose Him,
-
Not Synced
but we do have the free
will to choose otherwise.
-
Not Synced
(Derek) You know, I'm thinking,
-
Not Synced
Tricia Lee, I really appreciate what
Nathan said about the love of Jesus.
-
Not Synced
And there were some Pharisees,
-
Not Synced
Nicodemus was a Pharisee
-
Not Synced
and also a member of the Sanhedrin,
-
Not Synced
who did repent.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Yes, praise God.
-
Not Synced
(Derek) So you know, if Jesus was
-
Not Synced
just kind of harsh and kind of fighting
-
Not Synced
with the weapons of this world
-
Not Synced
or acting like they acted,
-
Not Synced
they'd have an excuse,
-
Not Synced
but I think He is speaking
with love in His heart.
-
Not Synced
And, praise God, some of
the Scribes and Pharisees
-
Not Synced
said, "We need to repent;
-
Not Synced
we need to turn our lives around."
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Amen, amen.
-
Not Synced
Reading through this passage,
-
Not Synced
something was very interesting,
-
Not Synced
and I'd like to ask the
class this question:
-
Not Synced
How could He say that the guilt of all
the righteous blood, all the martyrs
-
Not Synced
would fall on this generation?
-
Not Synced
What does that mean?
-
Not Synced
How are they guilty of all these things?
-
Not Synced
They're just living their little lives;
-
Not Synced
how is it that He can say that the
blood of all the righteous from Abel
-
Not Synced
to Zechariah would fall
on this generation?
-
Not Synced
Any idea what was the significance
of that statement, Missy?
-
Not Synced
(Missy) All throughout the generations,
-
Not Synced
God has sent prophets,
-
Not Synced
throughout all ages,
-
Not Synced
but along with the prophets
were the dissenters
-
Not Synced
who chose not to listen to them,
and not only that, to oppose them
-
Not Synced
and even kill the prophets.
-
Not Synced
And they have the same spirit,
-
Not Synced
so this is why they would carry the guilt.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) I think you're right, Missy.
-
Not Synced
Let's turn to Luke chapter 24,
-
Not Synced
and we'll see that the Bible supports
-
Not Synced
what you just said, Missy.
-
Not Synced
Luke chapter 24,
-
Not Synced
and, Eric, would you read for us Luke
chapter 24, verses 25 through 27?
-
Not Synced
(Eric) I'm reading from the
New Living Translation,
-
Not Synced
Luke 24:25-27, and it says:
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) Amen, that's right, Missy.
-
Not Synced
All the prophets were all
given the same message,
-
Not Synced
the Gospel of Jesus that was
to come, the Messiah to come,
-
Not Synced
they were all testifying to Him,
-
Not Synced
so every generation, when they kept
rejecting the prophets that were sent
-
Not Synced
to them, they were rejecting Christ,
-
Not Synced
and ultimately when that generation
rejected Christ, they were rejecting
-
Not Synced
the entire message that had been sent
to them time after time after time.
-
Not Synced
Jonathan?
-
Not Synced
(Jonathan) Just the fact that not
only did they reject the sayings
-
Not Synced
that were entrusted to them, now
they came with greater power.
-
Not Synced
I mean, like, when you have
Christ doing all these miracles,
-
Not Synced
so if they reject Christ, who is
the fulfillment and testimony
-
Not Synced
and perfect representation of
everything they were given,
-
Not Synced
they in essence have rejected it and
killed everything else before them.
-
Not Synced
(Derek) But, you know, we have no excuse
-
Not Synced
because we have Jesus,
-
Not Synced
and yet, you know, one of the things
I've noticed teaching about Jesus,
-
Not Synced
there are many young people who
grow up in a Christian home
-
Not Synced
who have never read the Book of
Matthew or Mark or Luke or John.
-
Not Synced
They have the testimony of Jesus Himself,
-
Not Synced
and yet a lot of times we
act like it doesn't exist.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) That would be
the rebuke to our generation.
-
Not Synced
(Derek) I think it would be.
-
Not Synced
(Tricia Lee) The rebuke to our generation
-
Not Synced
is that we have this Word that has
survived generation after generation,
-
Not Synced
we know that it's been
preserved through time
-
Not Synced
exactly as it was spoken through
the prophets and written down,
-
Not Synced
we know the life of Christ, and so here
we are today with such grace, such mercy,
-
Not Synced
and if we still choose not to accept
God, then that's the rebuke that we have
-
Not Synced
on ourselves.
-
Not Synced
We're going to keep reading now,
-
Not Synced
and we're going to transition
now to Matthew chapter 24
-
Not Synced
and get into the real heart of our study.
-
Not Synced
We're going to now see that Jesus leaves

-
Not Synced

International Version,
-
Not Synced
and it says:
-

would you pause there?
-
Not Synced
I have a question for the group.
-
Not Synced
What do you think they mean by that?
-
Not Synced
The "end of the age?"
-
Not Synced
My New King James Version
says, the "end of the age."
-
Not Synced

-
Not Synced
Anyone have "end of the world?"
-
Not Synced
(Olric) What was happening here,
