32:01 - 32:03Describe the scene of crime.
-
32:05 - 32:09lt's difficult, its tough, because..
-
32:10 - 32:11..because it is classified.
-
32:14 - 32:15Classified?
-
32:19 - 32:21Then what can you disclose?

33:21 - 33:22How many were there at

33:25 - 33:26That's a bright question..
-
33:27 - 33:28lt's a bright question..
-
33:28 - 33:30but its quite a
-
33:31 - 33:33Mass Movement kind of question.
-
33:33 - 33:36Forgive me but.. try
looking at the bigger picture. -
33:36 - 33:40The bigger picture right now,

-
34:35 - 34:37..the incident took place
not on March 1 but March 8. -
34:38 - 34:41As defense lawyer, if you don't
know the basic facts of your case.. -
34:42 - 34:43..how will you defend
your client in court. -
34:47 - 34:50This certainly is
postmodern tragedy. -
34:51 - 34:52Wake up!
-
34:55 - 34:56This is for the coffee.
-
35:05 - 35:06This is the tip.

71:39 - 71:41You know, chronograph,
altimeter, depth meter, scuba.. -
71:41 - 71:43No way!
-
71:47 - 71:48lt is not too late even now.
-
71:48 - 71:49For what?
-
71:49 - 71:55Bargain. l can still swing it..
- Can you? -
71:56 - 71:57Can you hear this?
-
71:58 - 72:00There's a pulse beat
after every 2 seconds. -
72:04 - 72:06Listen, thank
Nandini and give her a hug. -

-
72:09 - 72:10Thanks, AK.
-
72:20 - 72:23He tended to be serious,
aloof ..didn't mix with others. -
72:23 - 72:25How was Captain Javed Khan
during his training period? -
72:26 - 72:29Observant, calculative, intelligent.
-
72:30 - 72:32But quite reserved.
-
72:38 - 72:4210 tins of cheese, 5 of butter.
4 bottles of jam.. -
72:42 - 72:44..and about ten of Roohafza.
-
72:44 - 72:46Some locals would come over.
-
72:46 - 72:47Who were they?
-
72:48 - 72:49Perhaps from his village,
l don't know. -
72:49 - 72:51Since when were you in
charge of the canteen? -
72:51 - 72:52About three years, sir.
-
72:52 - 72:55And in these three years,
you did not see these people? -
72:55 - 72:56No, sir. Never.
-
72:56 - 72:58Did you also mix with the villagers?
-
72:58 - 72:59Sometimes.
-
73:00 - 73:02lt was a sensitive area
so we had to be careful. -
73:04 - 73:09Did Captain Javed Khan also
go at times to his village? -
73:09 - 73:11Almost four times a week.
-
73:11 - 73:13lf fact we officers
often joked that.. -
73:13 - 73:16..his Officer's Mess
was in the village. -
73:16 - 73:18On duty, l must've talked
with Captain Javed Khan.. -
73:19 - 73:20..hardly 4 or 5 times.
-
73:20 - 73:23Okay, but you must've
interacted with him socially. -
73:23 - 73:26He frequented the mess
but l never talked to him. -
73:27 - 73:30At some party or event, festival?
-
73:30 - 73:32No, sir.
-
73:32 - 73:34So in three years you had
no conversation with him? -
73:35 - 73:36No, sir, not at all.
-
73:47 - 73:51Obviously, Captain Javed is a bit
of an introvert, somewhat unsocial.. -
73:52 - 73:57..but his silence could be
a cover for his loyalty. -
73:59 - 74:05Loyalty to Rashtriya
Rifles or the terrorists? -
74:06 - 74:08Loyalty to the lndian army or..
-
74:08 - 74:11..to a terrorist organization?
-
74:12 - 74:14Crime can be proved with evidence..
-
74:14 - 74:17..but motives and
intentions need to be judged. -
74:18 - 74:21Perhaps Major Rathore
understood his intentions.. -
74:21 - 74:25..and that's why he shot Major
Rathore at point blank range. -
74:27 - 74:28Perhaps.
-
74:33 - 74:34The prosecution rests its case.
-
74:44 - 74:46Which Javed Khan are you?
-
74:49 - 74:52Academy Gold Medalist Javed?
Or the militant Javed? -

-
105:36 - 105:40The sound of that one gun

105:41 - 105:43Who were we to arrest him?
-
105:44 - 105:46We were ashamed of ourselves.
-
105:48 - 105:51Javed could escape in
the darkness of the night. -
105:53 - 105:54There was no one to stop him.
-
105:55 - 105:57Not even our dead conscience.
-
106:01 - 106:04But even there he did what
this uniform has taught us. -
106:05 - 106:06Follow the rules.

-
107:48 - 107:53l preferred to stay silent
of my own will, because.. -
107:53 - 107:59..as a soldier it's my duty not
only to protect my country's border.. -
107:59 - 108:01..but also to respect my uniform.
-
108:02 - 108:03And it is also my aim.
-
108:05 - 108:06This was my opportunity, Siddhanth.
-
108:08 - 108:12The truth of that night would've
weakened the belief of a community. -
108:14 - 108:17The distance between us
would've become wider. -
108:21 - 108:25l don't wish that some Javed
Khan's exists only by his name. -
108:27 - 108:29l don't want the future generation..

Pratap or Rathore's viewpoint. -
108:34 - 108:37l am a small part of this creation.
-
108:39 - 108:46What is wrong if my silence helps?
-
108:51 - 108:52lf Brigadier
Pratap had had his way.. -
108:52 - 108:56..he would've
turned the entire army.. -
108:56 - 108:58..into Major Rathore.
-
109:00 - 109:02And, perhaps, me too.
-
109:06 - 109:09Why? You have also become
silent on learning the truth. -
109:15 - 109:16What difference did it make?
-
109:20 - 109:23Major Virendras Rathore's
murder case has taken a new turn. -
109:24 - 109:27The defense lawyer Siddhant
Chaudhary has decided to summon.. -
109:27 - 109:30Brigadier Pratap,
recipient of Shaurya Chakra.. -
109:30 - 109:32..to the court.
-
109:32 - 109:35lt may be noted that Brigadier
Pratap is a highly decorated officer. -
109:35 - 109:39Even eminent officers like Pratap
Singh are involved in this case. -
109:39 - 109:41New faces are coming
in the witness box. -
109:53 - 109:55l think there's a soldier by
the name of R P Singh, sir. -
109:55 - 109:58What can you learn from the corpse?
- Sir, it's a suicide case. -
109:58 - 110:00How many policemen around?
-
110:00 - 110:01Sir. There are three policemen.
-
110:03 - 110:04No, sir

110:10 - 110:14Scotch! Genuine stuff from the
canteen. You're doing a lot of duty. -
110:15 - 110:16How much time..
- Brigadier Pratap? -
110:17 - 110:22Sid! What were you
thinking when you called him? -
110:22 - 110:24That he would sit
in the witness box.. -
110:24 - 110:27..and announce to the world
that he is a mass murderer? -
110:27 - 110:30l mean what were you thinking?
- What should l do? -
110:30 - 110:32Bring R P Singh's
corpse into the witness box? -
110:33 - 110:35Or Javed, who is hell
bent on becoming a martyr? -
110:35 - 110:37Or Neerja Rathore. Will she agree?
-
110:39 - 110:42l know l don't have any proof.
But what do l do? Shall l just sit? -
110:43 - 110:45lt's very easy for you to
give a lecture from there. -
110:49 - 110:50l'm sorry.
-
110:52 - 110:53l'm sorry
-
110:56 - 110:57l just hope you know
what you're doing. -
110:58 - 111:00Of course not!
l don't know anything. -
111:02 - 111:03Sid.
-
111:03 - 111:08lf you make one wrong move,
your army career is finished. -
111:09 - 111:12They'll throw you in some
jungle in Bihar or Assam. -
111:13 - 111:16All l can say is

119:24 - 119:25'l'm sending you a letter.'
-
119:26 - 119:29'Virendra's father

119:30 - 119:33'We are returning to Lucknow
to Kshitij's grandparents.' -
119:34 - 119:38'The papers said that you have
called Brig. Pratap to court.' -
119:39 - 119:42'While packing my things,
l found this file of Virendra.' -
119:43 - 119:46'Perhaps this file
will help your case.' -
119:49 - 119:53'The walls are covered with
Virendra's medals and shields.' -
119:54 - 119:55'Even today when Kshitij sees them..
-
119:56 - 119:59..he feels proud of
his father's courage.' -
120:00 - 120:02'Perhaps if l leave them here..
-
120:02 - 120:04..his illusion will

-
122:03 - 122:06Court-martial resumes.
Defense may begin! -
122:13 - 122:17Your favourite colours? Name three.
-
122:21 - 122:22Black. Black. Black
-
122:23 - 122:24Favorite animals?
-
122:26 - 122:30Rabbit. Ant. Leopard.
-
122:33 - 122:38Major Rathore was your
rabbit or your leopard? -
122:39 - 122:43He was a brave officer. And
please do not insult his bravery. -
122:45 - 122:50Human rights reports see his bravery
as culpable homicide or genocide. -
122:51 - 122:53When a 30-storeyed
building collapses.. -
122:53 - 122:55..it affects the
adjacent 10-storeyed one too. -
122:57 - 122:59This is termed as collateral damage.
-
123:00 - 123:01So, these reports are all rubbish?
-
123:03 - 123:07They'd know who worry about table,
chair and air-conditioned comfort. -
123:08 - 123:09For me, my duty is all.
-
123:11 - 123:12Fantastic 'spirit.'
-
123:13 - 123:16Objection your honour. Defense
is ridiculing a decorated officer. -
123:17 - 123:18Objection sustained.
-
123:19 - 123:23The disappearance of Captain RP
Singh and his body being found.. -
123:23 - 123:24..what could be the cause?
-
123:26 - 123:30Husband-wife quarrel, kitchen fight,
pillow fight, suicide, murder. -
123:34 - 123:35These are possibilities.
-
123:37 - 123:42l've no PhD on such matters.
lt's sad. -
123:44 - 123:45l will send flowers to his family.
-
123:49 - 123:51lf you're done with your
suspense-filled questions.. -
123:51 - 123:52..may l leave?
-
123:58 - 124:00Any more questions for Brig. Pratap?
-
124:03 - 124:04Now what would you
like to ask, Major? -
124:05 - 124:06The power of my glasses?
-
124:08 - 124:09Why not!
- lt's necessary to know. -
124:10 - 124:12Whether the glasses are for
long rang range or short range. -
124:12 - 124:16Because sometimes reality
gets a bit out of focus. -
124:16 - 124:19Objection. Defense is
digressing from the issue.. -
124:19 - 124:21Objection sustained.
-
124:22 - 124:25lf my questions are
not to your liking.. -
124:25 - 124:27..let's play a game.
-
124:28 - 124:29Let's play a memory game.
-
124:30 - 124:32With your permission, sir.
-
124:33 - 124:36My memory is exactly like me..
-
124:37 - 124:41..right on target, sharp! Ask away.
-
124:41 - 124:42Excellent.
-
124:42 - 124:44When were you commissioned?

-
125:33 - 125:349th December, 1993?
-
125:36 - 125:39l don't want you to lose this game,
so l'll give you one last clue. -

-
125:43 - 125:44At 4.25, evening.
-
125:46 - 125:48Fog, according to the
weather report. Then the sun shone. -
125:50 - 125:51Do you remember?
-
125:56 - 126:00D/52 Mayur Vihar.
9th December, 1993. -
126:00 - 126:02At 4.25 in the evening.
-
126:03 - 126:04What happened, Brig. Pratap?
-
126:04 - 126:07What happened is in my annual
confidential report. Read it. -
126:08 - 126:10Annual confidential report!
-
126:12 - 126:15Oh yes of course, let's see.
-
126:16 - 126:17Here it is.
-
126:17 - 126:22During communal clashes. Mayur
Vihar, Flat No. D 52. at 4.25 pm.. -
126:22 - 126:25..two women and one girl child
were murdered in a brutal way. -
126:26 - 126:28Then their flat was set on fire.
-
126:29 - 126:30Three people died.
-
126:31 - 126:37Mrs Aradhana Pratap Singh,
age 36. Your wife. -
126:38 - 126:42Mrs. Shardha Pratap Singh,
age 70. Your mother. -
126:43 - 126:48Tanvi Pratap Singh,
age 8. Your daughter. -
126:50 - 126:55You said correctly, it is all
documented in the ACR report. -
126:56 - 127:01What a tragedy. Sorry. Sad.
-
127:02 - 127:05lt's not only sad.. it's cruel.
-
127:07 - 127:08How was it done?
-
127:09 - 127:13With something sharp? Knife?
-
127:17 - 127:20With a kitchen knife! 35 times.
-
127:22 - 127:26Before killing them, they
even raped your daughter. -
127:28 - 127:30Wife's postmortem report states..
-
127:30 - 127:31..damage of intestine.
-
127:32 - 127:35Your mother was alive.
-
127:37 - 127:39She died of burns, in agony.
-
127:44 - 127:45lt's all in the report.
-
127:46 - 127:48One name is not in the report.
-
127:49 - 127:51He was known as Babu.
-
127:52 - 127:56He was ten years old when he
first came to you from an orphanage. -
127:57 - 128:00He was the most loved
servant ln your household. -
128:02 - 128:06Then, 9 December he
killed your entire family. -
128:08 - 128:12Your Babu, your Jameel.
-
128:13 - 128:15His name was Jameel, right?
-
128:17 - 128:22He was a killer, l know.
-
128:23 - 128:29What l don't know is why the
name Jameel is not in this ACR. -
128:31 - 128:36Could it be that Brig. Pratap
Singh is scared of something? -
128:37 - 128:38You don't have to answer, Brigadier.
-
128:39 - 128:41You may choose to step
out of the witness box. -
128:42 - 128:44To be weak is not in Brig.
Pratap's nature. -
128:46 - 128:47So, l'll answer that question.
-
128:49 - 128:53You understand only as much
as you can tolerate. No more. -
128:55 - 128:56You won't be able to bear it.
-
128:57 - 129:00You don't have strength
enough to accept the entire truth. -
129:01 - 129:02This is what is true of you!
-
129:04 - 129:07lt is also true that you
are in my witness box. -
129:09 - 129:13And even if l don't have the
strength l will find out the truth. -
129:13 - 129:14You are talking nonsense.
-
129:16 - 129:20All this is like your
word 'nice.. convenience. -
129:22 - 129:24Truth is, it is because
of me that you are here. -
129:25 - 129:30My finger's on the trigger that's
why you can breath this fresh air. -
129:32 - 129:35The truth is that at 7000 feet
it is l who must bear the cold. -
129:35 - 129:38This is why you are able to
speak like sensible human beings. -
129:39 - 129:40To be free of pain.
-
129:41 - 129:44To go to discos, be in love..
-
129:47 - 129:51..celebrate festivals, to live..
-
129:52 - 129:53The truth is that
you and every lndian.. -
129:53 - 129:56..from the time you
wake up in the morning.. -
129:56 - 129:57..you want every street
and drain to be clean. -
129:59 - 130:02Ask whose hand gets
dirty in keeping them clean? -
130:03 - 130:04Ours.
-
130:05 - 130:06This is the truth.
-
130:07 - 130:10Mine, yours, and all those here.
-
130:11 - 130:12Truth.
-
130:14 - 130:16But my question is.. Jameel.
-
130:18 - 130:21lmran, Naseer, Fatima..
-
130:22 - 130:25..you see Jameel in all of them?
-
130:26 - 130:29They're killers!
All of them.. right? -
130:30 - 130:34The enemy is not just on
that side of the border. -
130:35 - 130:39They can also be in your home,
like dirt and white ants. -
130:42 - 130:44My aim is Vir, Bhogya Vasundhara.
-
130:45 - 130:48lt's my responsibility to
protect my country outside, inside.. -
130:48 - 130:52..from every type of enemy.
-
130:54 - 130:58lf not, Major, every day not one
but a hundred Jameels will surface. -
130:59 - 131:01You've been searching for
Jameel for 13 years, right? -
131:06 - 131:08You saw Javed Khan..
-
131:09 - 131:11..but you actually
saw Jameel in him. -
131:13 - 131:15Speak up
- You did, didn't you? -
131:15 - 131:18Who are you trying to protect? Him?
-
131:19 - 131:20This Javed?
-
131:24 - 131:25Know what it signifies?
-
131:26 - 131:27Religion?
-
131:28 - 131:32lndications of identity,
from the time of their birth. -
131:32 - 131:36lts there deep within
this Javed, ln his veins . -
131:40 - 131:44His blood is
steeped in his religion. -
131:46 - 131:48His loyalty is towards his blood.
-
131:50 - 131:55Unfortunately.. his
community is filled with poison. -
131:58 - 132:01Accounting for them,
we will be wiped out. -
132:03 - 132:04Many more Rathore's will be killed..
-
132:04 - 132:06..but nothing will change.
-
132:08 - 132:10This is not yours, mine,
or any talk show matter. -
132:11 - 132:12lt pertains to the whole world.
-
132:12 - 132:13That's why, the head that you have..
-
132:14 - 132:15..hidden ostrich-like,
under the earth.. -
132:15 - 132:16..bring it out and look!
-
132:17 - 132:18Apply your wisdom?
You'll understand. -
132:22 - 132:24Who's the enemy?
The whole community? -
132:25 - 132:31Every date carries the stamp
of their religion, their terror. -
132:32 - 132:34And, Major, l know how
to cleanse those dates. -
132:34 - 132:35That's what l am doing..
cleaning up. -
132:35 - 132:39Cleaning up.. by giving shoot at
sight orders on innocent children. -
132:39 - 132:41lnnocent.. roaming
about with AK 57.. -
132:41 - 132:44..in their hands, like a lollipop.
-
132:44 - 132:46lnnocent!
-
132:47 - 132:48But a six year old child.
-
132:48 - 132:52They are not children,
They are time-bombs. -
132:53 - 132:54They are pawns of the terrorists.
-
132:57 - 132:58Those whom you consider innocent..
-
132:58 - 133:00..are a matter of discipline for me!
-
133:03 - 133:04Discipline is a military necessity.
-
133:06 - 133:08Don't teach me right from wrong.
-
133:08 - 133:09You are not capable.
-
133:11 - 133:13lf l want to, l can produce an
army of hundreds of Rathore's. -
133:13 - 133:16And l will do it.
l will finish these people. -
133:18 - 133:20l will sift out each and
every white ant and kill it. -
133:20 - 133:22So that one more Jameel is not born.
-
133:23 - 133:25There will not be
another fire in Mayur Vihar. -
133:26 - 133:28And one more Tanu is not raped.
-
133:30 - 133:31She was shrieking.
-
133:34 - 133:36Morning, evening, day, night..
-
133:36 - 133:38..l hear her screams.
-
133:40 - 133:42That's why l told
Rathore to shoot them. -
133:44 - 133:45To finish off these idiots.
-
133:45 - 133:47The old and the young, kill them!
-
133:50 - 133:52Otherwise they will finish us.
-
133:53 - 133:55They will finish off
hundreds of houses in Mayur Vihar. -
133:57 - 133:59lf you want to do something,
finish off this community. -
134:00 - 134:03That's what we want.
Lousy democracy! -
134:05 - 134:07Lousy democracy!
-
134:34 - 134:35Thank you.
-
134:37 - 134:41That will be all, your honour!

-
135:32 - 135:33Look at this uniform.
-
135:35 - 135:36Decorated with national honours.
-
135:36 - 135:37National honours?
-
135:39 - 135:45This uniform, this trial, is
not just about nationalism. -
135:46 - 135:49lt is also in the name of democracy.
-
135:52 - 135:55lt's saved you a great deal,
this lousy democracy. -
135:57 - 136:00Or you would be hanging

136:32 - 136:34No religion, no community.
-
136:36 - 136:39The lndian Army's courage is
hidden in Javed Khan's humanity. -
136:41 - 136:42But you won't understand.
-
136:45 - 136:46You won't understand.
-
136:48 - 136:49Take him away.
-
137:00 - 137:03ln the light of new evidence

-
138:29 - 138:30Sir!
-
139:45 - 139:46What is courage?
-
139:47 - 139:50The earth shattering
noise of the army. -
139:51 - 139:55The noise of the guns
which blazes through the sky. -
139:57 - 139:58What is courage?
-
139:58 - 140:01Some stars of metal
shining on an uniform -
140:02 - 140:06Or some unwritten lines
which could easily be erased. -
140:10 - 140:11What is courage?
-
140:12 - 140:16To kill a silent bird
who's flying far away? -
140:17 - 140:22Or to fire bullets and bombs
and silent an entire city? -
140:23 - 140:29Courage.. the blood that dries up on
its own in the heat of the battle. -
140:29 - 140:34Or to wait for every
moment in an unknown place. -

They are on opposite sides of a case where a soldier kills his commanding officer. The accused is mysteriously silent and not willing to talk about the incident. Siddhant, who is the defense counsel, is apathetic at first but starts taking a keen interest in the case after meeting Kavya (Minissha Lamba), a journalist who demonstrates that the case is not as simple as it seems. The underlying theme in the movie is Siddhant's gradual understanding of what Shaurya means (his father was himself a decorated army veteran), and the resulting conflict with Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh (Kay Kay Menon).
