Nature Is Speaking – Ian Somerhalder is Coral Reef | Conservation International (CI)

  • 0:07 - 0:08
    I am coral.
  • 0:09 - 0:12
Some people think I’m just a rock.
  • 0:13 - 0:16
When, in fact, I’m the largest thing alive on this planet.
  • 0:18 - 0:21
I’m so big, I can be seen from space.
  • 0:22 - 0:24
    But for how long?
  • 0:25 - 0:29
I grow for almost 250 million years.
  • 0:29 - 0:33
And humans came along and now one fifth of me is gone.
  • 0:34 - 0:37
Sure, l live at the bottom of the sea.
  • 0:37 - 0:39
And you might not see me that often.
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    But you do need me.
  • 0:43 - 0:46
Do you realize that one quarter of all marine life depends on me?
  • 0:47 - 0:49
I am the nursery of the sea.
  • 0:50 - 0:53
Little fish depend on me for food.
  • 0:53 - 0:55
And to hide from the big fish.
  • 0:56 - 0:58
And guess who eats the big fish?
  • 0:58 - 1:00
    That’s right. You do.
  • 1:00 - 1:03
I’m the protein factory for the world.
  • 1:03 - 1:07
Yet you raise the temperature of the ocean so I can’t live here anymore.
  • 1:07 - 1:10
And when big storms and tsunamis barrel through the ocean,
  • 1:10 - 1:12
    I’m your fortress.
  • 1:12 - 1:17
Yet you tear me apart with dynamite and poison me with cyanide.
  • 1:18 - 1:21
    Well, here’s a crazy thought:
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    Stop killing me.
