Kabe
-
0:00 - 0:02Hello, everyone! It's Evildea, your god.
-
0:02 - 0:04Tonight I want to talk about
-
0:04 - 0:07a special subject, which was raised
-
0:07 - 0:09by one of my Esperanto friends.
-
0:09 - 0:11The subject of this videoblog
-
0:11 - 0:13is "kabe-ing."
-
0:13 - 0:15For those who don't know,
-
0:15 - 0:17"kabe" is simply a verb.
-
0:17 - 0:20It means to deliberately abandon
-
0:20 - 0:21the Esperanto movement
-
0:21 - 0:23and never return.
-
0:23 - 0:26My friend said on her Facebook page
-
0:26 - 0:27that she is thinking about kabe-ing,
-
0:27 - 0:31and does anyone have an opinion about it?
-
0:31 - 0:34I simply want to tell you all now
-
0:34 - 0:36about the time when I not really kabe-ed,
-
0:36 - 0:39but I left the Esperanto movement
-
0:39 - 0:41for more than six months.
-
0:41 - 0:44Probably, many Esperantists
-
0:44 - 0:47did this, and really did kabe later,
-
0:47 - 0:49because remember, some people left
-
0:49 - 0:51the movement unintentionally,
-
0:51 - 0:55but due to life-related reasons did kabe.
-
0:55 - 0:57Now I want to tell you the story,
-
0:57 - 0:59and also I want to present to you
-
0:59 - 1:01the reasons, because I think
-
1:01 - 1:04that the reasons are important,
-
1:04 - 1:07because we can improve the situation
-
1:07 - 1:10with kabe-ing in the Esperanto world.
-
1:10 - 1:15Really, many people often kabe.
-
1:15 - 1:18Some years ago,
-
1:18 - 1:20I remember that I would often go
-
1:20 - 1:22to the local Esperanto group -
-
1:22 - 1:23and you must remember,
-
1:23 - 1:25this event occurred
-
1:25 - 1:27long before Duolingo
-
1:27 - 1:29made an Esperanto course.
-
1:29 - 1:32I remember that I maybe twice a month
-
1:32 - 1:33would go to the local club,
-
1:33 - 1:35and I would meet
-
1:35 - 1:37with the other Esperantists.
-
1:37 - 1:39Usually, there would be only maybe
-
1:39 - 1:42eight or eleven Esperantists in all.
-
1:42 - 1:44Almost always there would be
-
1:44 - 1:46the same faces.
-
1:46 - 1:48I often would see the same people,
-
1:48 - 1:50and we often would discuss the same topics
-
1:50 - 1:53During the meetings, we would just eat,
-
1:53 - 1:57and maybe some people would give speeches,
-
1:57 - 1:59but speeches really
-
1:59 - 2:01don't interest me that much,
-
2:01 - 2:03so I just sat there
-
2:03 - 2:05and maybe would listen, maybe not.
-
2:05 - 2:07I would just wait for the breaks
-
2:07 - 2:12to talk with my friends.
-
2:12 - 2:15I remember, almost always
-
2:15 - 2:16it was the same thing,
-
2:16 - 2:17and afterward I thought,
-
2:17 - 2:21"Eh, I can't go to the next meeting;
-
2:21 - 2:23I would rather go to the movies."
-
2:23 - 2:24So, I just went to the movies,
-
2:24 - 2:26and I didn't go to that meeting.
-
2:26 - 2:29Of course, when I did this once,
-
2:29 - 2:32the second time, I thought the same way.
-
2:32 - 2:34I didn't go, and then I didn't go,
-
2:34 - 2:35and I didn't go, and for three months,
-
2:35 - 2:38I just didn't attend local meetings.
-
2:38 - 2:40I stopped speaking Esperanto
-
2:40 - 2:42with almost everyone.
-
2:42 - 2:44I still from time to time
-
2:44 - 2:45would use it on Facebook,
-
2:45 - 2:48but I really wasn't active in the movement
-
2:48 - 2:50because there wasn't anything
-
2:50 - 2:51that I wanted to do,
-
2:51 - 2:54and really there were other life reasons,
-
2:54 - 2:57which I needed to get back to.
-
2:57 - 2:59So, I remember
-
2:59 - 3:01that after almost six months,
-
3:01 - 3:04Dmitri, one of the local Esperantists
-
3:04 - 3:05and a good friend of mine,
-
3:05 - 3:08called me and said,
-
3:08 - 3:10"Do you want to help me with a problem?"
-
3:10 - 3:12I said, "What is the problem?"
-
3:12 - 3:14He said that he wants to start
-
3:14 - 3:17an Esperanto TV channel,
-
3:17 - 3:19because he and Marina, another person,
-
3:19 - 3:23recently came into contact
-
3:23 - 3:26with a local television company,
-
3:26 - 3:28and later, I thought,
-
3:28 - 3:29"Oh yes, I can do this."
-
3:29 - 3:31Then, I once again
-
3:31 - 3:33participated in the movement,
-
3:33 - 3:38and I became more energetic and active.
-
3:38 - 3:41I only returned to the movement because
-
3:41 - 3:44there was something that I could do in it.
-
3:44 - 3:46I think this happens
-
3:46 - 3:47to many Esperantists, because
-
3:47 - 3:50they often find themselves in situations,
-
3:50 - 3:54where there isn't anything they can do,
-
3:54 - 3:57and they just no longer use the language,
-
3:57 - 3:59and little by little, simply kabe,
-
3:59 - 4:02not intentionally, at first,
-
4:02 - 4:04but after a little time
-
4:04 - 4:06simply no longer try
-
4:06 - 4:08to get back in touch with the movement.
-
4:08 - 4:10Also there are other things,
-
4:10 - 4:12for example, many Esperantists
-
4:12 - 4:14live in places, where there aren't
-
4:14 - 4:16other Esperantists,
-
4:16 - 4:17and they feel like
-
4:17 - 4:20they are alone and only have
-
4:20 - 4:23Esperanto books and maybe music,
-
4:23 - 4:26and hopefully now Youtube.
-
4:26 - 4:27This is one of the reasons
-
4:27 - 4:30why I continue doing this channel,
-
4:30 - 4:31because I think it is
-
4:31 - 4:34a good way to always speak
-
4:34 - 4:36with other Esperantists.
-
4:36 - 4:38Yeah, sure, you really can't
-
4:38 - 4:40speak face-to-face with me now,
-
4:40 - 4:43but you can at least comment below,
-
4:43 - 4:46and we can start conversations.
-
4:46 - 4:48It was a big problem,
-
4:48 - 4:49that there simple were not
-
4:49 - 4:51that many projects
-
4:51 - 4:53in the local movement here,
-
4:53 - 4:56so yes, indeed, I myself kabe-ed
-
4:56 - 4:57for some time,
-
4:57 - 4:59and many people are probably thinking,
-
4:59 - 5:01"Oh, no, Evildea, you kabe-ed?
-
5:01 - 5:03Or you abandoned the movement?
-
5:03 - 5:04That is crazy,
-
5:04 - 5:06because you are so active."
-
5:06 - 5:08I only am active now
-
5:08 - 5:11because I have to do this channel everyday
-
5:11 - 5:12and I like to do it,
-
5:12 - 5:14so I use Esperanto.
-
5:14 - 5:16If I didn't have this channel
-
5:16 - 5:19and I didn't have Esperanto-TV,
-
5:19 - 5:21I would probably no longer participate
-
5:21 - 5:22in the movement,
-
5:22 - 5:24because there is not really anything else
-
5:24 - 5:25that I want to do.
-
5:25 - 5:29I just want to present this to you
-
5:29 - 5:30and maybe some of you
-
5:30 - 5:32are thinking about kabe-ing,
-
5:32 - 5:35maybe you did kabe-- no,
-
5:35 - 5:38'cause if you kabe-ed, you wouldn't return
-
5:38 - 5:40So maybe you abandoned the movement.
-
5:40 - 5:43Maybe you want to simply write below
-
5:43 - 5:46your stories for the other people here.
-
5:46 - 5:48I know that many of you
-
5:48 - 5:49are beginners, so really,
-
5:49 - 5:51it's not a problem for you--
-
5:51 - 5:54or maybe it is, I don't know
-
5:54 - 5:56about beginners, but usually
-
5:56 - 5:57beginners really are enthusiastic
-
5:57 - 6:00about the language, but little by little
-
6:00 - 6:05the enthusiasm simply disperses, I suppose
-
6:05 - 6:07That's everything! I just want
-
6:07 - 6:10to talk about my experience.
-
6:10 - 6:11If you liked this video,
-
6:11 - 6:13like it, share it,
-
6:13 - 6:14subscribe to my channel
-
6:14 - 6:16if you still haven't subscribed,
-
6:16 - 6:17and I will see you all
-
6:17 - 6:18in the next film.
-
6:18 - 6:19If you are not there,
-
6:19 - 6:21I will find you,
-
6:21 - 6:22and I will make you kabe...
-
6:24 - 6:26by means of your death!
-
6:26 - 6:29(evil laughter)
-
6:29 - 6:30As always, I want to thank
