Kabe

In this videoblog, I responded to whether I thought about kabe-ing and tell a story about the time when I did abandon the movement for six months.

Hello, everyone! It's Evildea, your god.

Tonight I want to talk about

a special subject, which was raised

by one of my Esperanto friends.

The subject of this videoblog

is "kabe-ing."

For those who don't know,

"kabe" is simply a verb.

It means to deliberately abandon

the Esperanto movement

and never return.

My friend said on her Facebook page

that she is thinking about kabe-ing,

and does anyone have an opinion about it?

I simply want to tell you all now

about the time when I not really kabe-ed,

but I left the Esperanto movement

for more than six months.

Probably, many Esperantists

did this, and really did kabe later,

because remember, some people left

the movement unintentionally,

but due to life-related reasons did kabe.

Now I want to tell you the story,

and also I want to present to you

the reasons, because I think

that the reasons are important,

because we can improve the situation

with kabe-ing in the Esperanto world.

Really, many people often kabe.

Some years ago,

I remember that I would often go

to the local Esperanto group -

and you must remember,

this event occurred

long before Duolingo

made an Esperanto course.

I remember that I maybe twice a month

would go to the local club,

and I would meet

with the other Esperantists.

Usually, there would be only maybe

eight or eleven Esperantists in all.

Almost always there would be

the same faces.

I often would see the same people,

and we often would discuss the same topics

During the meetings, we would just eat,

and maybe some people would give speeches,

but speeches really

don't interest me that much,

so I just sat there

and maybe would listen, maybe not.

I would just wait for the breaks

to talk with my friends.

I remember, almost always

it was the same thing,

and afterward I thought,

"Eh, I can't go to the next meeting;

I would rather go to the movies."

So, I just went to the movies,

and I didn't go to that meeting.

Of course, when I did this once,

the second time, I thought the same way.

I didn't go, and then I didn't go,

and I didn't go, and for three months,

I just didn't attend local meetings.

I stopped speaking Esperanto

with almost everyone.

I still from time to time

would use it on Facebook,

but I really wasn't active in the movement

because there wasn't anything

that I wanted to do,

and really there were other life reasons,

which I needed to get back to.

So, I remember

that after almost six months,

Dmitri, one of the local Esperantists

and a good friend of mine,

called me and said,

"Do you want to help me with a problem?"

I said, "What is the problem?"

He said that he wants to start

an Esperanto TV channel,

because he and Marina, another person,

recently came into contact

with a local television company,

and later, I thought,

"Oh yes, I can do this."

Then, I once again

participated in the movement,

and I became more energetic and active.

I only returned to the movement because

there was something that I could do in it.

I think this happens

to many Esperantists, because

they often find themselves in situations,

where there isn't anything they can do,

and they just no longer use the language,

and little by little, simply kabe,

not intentionally, at first,

but after a little time

simply no longer try

to get back in touch with the movement.

Also there are other things,

for example, many Esperantists

live in places, where there aren't

other Esperantists,

and they feel like

they are alone and only have

Esperanto books and maybe music,

and hopefully now Youtube.

This is one of the reasons

why I continue doing this channel,

because I think it is

a good way to always speak

with other Esperantists.

Yeah, sure, you really can't

speak face-to-face with me now,

but you can at least comment below,

and we can start conversations.

It was a big problem,

that there simple were not

that many projects

in the local movement here,

so yes, indeed, I myself kabe-ed

for some time,

and many people are probably thinking,

"Oh, no, Evildea, you kabe-ed?

Or you abandoned the movement?

That is crazy,

because you are so active."

I only am active now

because I have to do this channel everyday

and I like to do it,

so I use Esperanto.

If I didn't have this channel

and I didn't have Esperanto-TV,

I would probably no longer participate

in the movement,

because there is not really anything else

that I want to do.

I just want to present this to you

and maybe some of you

are thinking about kabe-ing,

maybe you did kabe-- no,

'cause if you kabe-ed, you wouldn't return

So maybe you abandoned the movement.

Maybe you want to simply write below

your stories for the other people here.

I know that many of you

are beginners, so really,

it's not a problem for you--

or maybe it is, I don't know

about beginners, but usually

beginners really are enthusiastic

about the language, but little by little

the enthusiasm simply disperses, I suppose

to talk about my experience.
