    Day of the dead is a Mexican celebration that honors the deceased on the second of November.

    They celebrated in pre-hispanic times even before the Spanish arrived in México.

    When looking at the customs for this holiday you find rich sugar skulls,fresh pan de puerto (bread of the dead) and famous verses called calaveras where they joke about how Catrina will take us to a grave.

    Now a days, people clean the graves and decorate them with flower wreaths which are believed to hold the souls of the dead.

    They also decorate altars where offerings are made to be placed.

    The offerings can be favorite dishes of the deceased, pan de muerto, glasses of water, tequila, pulque and even toys for the souls of children.

    They also put a portrait or photo of the person to whom the altar is dedicated.

    It has been more than 300 years since the first celebration of this holiday and all Mexicans can identify with the holiday.
