Five Years - David Bowie

  • 0:26 - 0:29
    Pushing through the market square
  • 0:31 - 0:34
    So many mothers sighing
  • 0:35 - 0:38
    News had just come over
  • 0:39 - 0:43
We had five years left to cry in
  • 0:45 - 0:47
News guy wept and told us
  • 0:49 - 0:53
    Earth was really dying
  • 0:54 - 0:57
Cried so much that his face was wet
  • 0:58 - 1:02
Then I knew he was not lying
  • 1:03 - 1:07
    I heard telephones, opera house,
    favorite melodies
  • 1:07 - 1:12
I saw boys, toys, electric irons
    and T.V.'s
  • 1:12 - 1:16
My brain hurt like a warehouse,
it had no room to spare
  • 1:16 - 1:21
I had to cram so many things
    to store everything in there
  • 1:21 - 1:29
    And all the fat-skinny people,
    and all the tall-short people
  • 1:29 - 1:37
    And all the nobody people,
    and all the somebody people
  • 1:37 - 1:43
    I never thought
    I'd need so many people
  • 1:46 - 1:53
A girl my age went off her head,
    hit some tiny children
  • 1:55 - 2:03
If the black hadn't a-pulled her off,
I think she would have killed them
  • 2:04 - 2:12
A soldier with a broken arm,
fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac
  • 2:13 - 2:17
    A cop knelt and kissed
    the feet of a priest
  • 2:17 - 2:21
    And a queer
threw up at the sight of that
  • 2:22 - 2:30
I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlor,
drinking milk shakes cold and long
  • 2:31 - 2:35
    Smiling and waving
    and looking so fine
  • 2:35 - 2:40
    Don't think you knew
    you were in this song
  • 2:40 - 2:45
And it was cold and it rained
so I felt like an actor
  • 2:45 - 2:49
    And I thought of Ma
and I wanted to get back there
  • 2:49 - 2:54
    Your face, your race,
    the way that you talk
  • 2:54 - 2:58
    I kiss you, you're beautiful,
    I want you to walk
  • 2:58 - 3:03
    We've got five years,
    stuck on my eyes
  • 3:03 - 3:07
    Five years,
    what a surprise
  • 3:07 - 3:12
    We've got five years,
    my brain hurts a lot
  • 3:12 - 3:16
    Five years,
    that's all we've got
  • 3:16 - 3:21
    We've got five years,
    what a surprise
  • 3:21 - 3:25
    Five years,
    stuck on my eyes
  • 3:25 - 3:30
    We've got five years
    my brain hurts a lot
  • 3:30 - 3:34
    Five years,
    that's all we've got
  • 3:34 - 3:39
    We've got five years,
    stuck on my eyes
  • 3:39 - 3:43
    Five years,
    what a surprise
  • 3:43 - 3:48
    We've got five years,
    my brain hurts a lot
  • 3:48 - 3:53
    Five years,
    that's all we've got
  • 3:53 - 3:58
    We've got five years,
    what a surprise
  • 3:58 - 4:01
    Five years,
    stuck on my eyes
  • 4:01 - 4:06
    We've got five years,
    my brain hurts a lot
  • 4:06 - 4:11
    Five years,
    that's all we've got
  • 4:11 - 4:14
    Five years
  • 4:15 - 4:18
    Five years
  • 4:20 - 4:22
    Five years
  • 4:24 - 4:27
    Five years
Title:
Five Years - David Bowie
Description:

Here's a video I made to celebrate Ziggy Stadust's 40th Anniversary.

I wanted to juxtapose the glamour and glitter of Ziggy with the Daily Drudgery and Political/Economic crises of the time.

As some of you movie buffs may notice, I've also borrowed heavily from Stanley Kubrick, who was a major influence on Bowie throughout his career.

Let me know what you think!
