Gordon Gekko "Greed is Good" Full Speech *read the description*

  • 0:01 - 0:03
    (Gordon Gekko)
    Well, I appreciate the opportunity
  • 0:03 - 0:07
    you're giving me, Mr.Cromwell,
    as the single largest shareholder
  • 0:07 - 0:09
    in Teldar Paper to speak.
  • 0:09 - 0:11
    [laughs]
    Well, ladies and gentlemen,
  • 0:11 - 0:17
we're not here to indulge in fantasy,
but in political and economic reality.
  • 0:18 - 0:25
    America, America has become
    a second-rate power.
  • 0:25 - 0:31
Its trade deficit and its fiscal
    deficit are at nightmare proportions.
  • 0:31 - 0:36
Now in the days of the free market, when
our country was a top industrial power,
  • 0:36 - 0:40
    there was accountability
    to the stockholder.
  • 0:40 - 0:43
    The Carnegies, the Mellons,
the men that built this great
  • 0:43 - 0:49
industrial empire made sure of it
because it was their money at stake.
  • 0:49 - 0:53
    Today, management has no
    stake in the company.
  • 0:53 - 0:59
All together these men sitting up
here own less than 3% of the company.
  • 0:59 - 1:03
    And where did Mr.
Cromwell put his million dollar sallary?
  • 1:03 - 1:07
Not in Teldar-Scott, he owns less than 1%.
  • 1:07 - 1:12
You own the company, that's right,
you the stockholders and you are all being
  • 1:12 - 1:17
royally screwed over by these bureaucrats,
    with their state lunches,
  • 1:17 - 1:22
their hunting and fishing trips, their
    corporate jets and golden parachutes.
  • 1:22 - 1:23
    (Mr. Cromwell)
    This is an outrage,
  • 1:23 - 1:24
    you're out of line, Gekko.
  • 1:24 - 1:27
    (Gordon Gekko)
    Teldar Paper, Mr. Cromwell.
  • 1:27 - 1:31
    Teldar Paper has 33
    different vice presidents,
  • 1:31 - 1:35
each earning over $200,000 a year.
  • 1:35 - 1:42
Now, I have spent the last two months
analyzing what all these guys do,
  • 1:42 - 1:44
and I still can't figure it out.
  • 1:44 - 1:47
    [Laughs]
    One thing I do know
  • 1:47 - 1:51
is that our paper company lost
    a $110 million last year.
  • 1:51 - 1:55
And I'll bet that half of that was spent
in all the paperwork going back and
  • 1:55 - 1:57
forth between all these vice presidents.
  • 1:57 - 2:01
    [Laughs]
    The new law
  • 2:01 - 2:07
    of evolution in corporate America
seems to be survival of the unfittest.
  • 2:07 - 2:12
Well in my book you either do it right,
    or you get eliminated.
  • 2:12 - 2:18
In the last seven deals that I've
been involved with, there were 2.5
  • 2:18 - 2:25
    million stockholders who have made
    a pre-tax profit of $12 billion.
  • 2:25 - 2:26
    [APPLAUSE]
    Thank you.
  • 2:26 - 2:32
    [APPLAUSE]
I am not a destroyer of companies.
  • 2:32 - 2:34
I am a liberator of them.
  • 2:37 - 2:42
    The point is, ladies and
    gentlemen, that greed,
  • 2:42 - 2:45
for lack of a better word, is good.
  • 2:45 - 2:47
    Greed is right.
  • 2:47 - 2:49
    Greed works.
  • 2:49 - 2:53
    Greed clarifies, cuts through, and
  • 2:53 - 2:57
    captures the essence of
    evolutionary spirit.
  • 2:57 - 3:02
Greed, in all of its forms,
    greed for life, for money,
  • 3:02 - 3:07
    for love, knowledge,
has marked the upward surge of mankind.
  • 3:07 - 3:14
And greed, you mark my words,
will not only save Teldar Paper but
  • 3:14 - 3:17
    that other malfunctioning
    corporation called the USA.
  • 3:17 - 3:19
    Thank you very much.
  • 3:19 - 3:27
    [APPLAUSE]
  • 3:27 - 3:33
    [Fly me to the moon
    by Frank Sinatra playing]

Gordon Gekko "Greed is Good" Full Speech *read the description*
Description:

Gordon Gekko *unknowningly* describes the problems facing today's private sector, while blasting the bureaucracy responsible for said problems in the first place. A classic speech, both in film and, also, within economic thought.

This is for people who think Saipan is a free-market.
