Nonviolence or nonexistence: choice of the 21st century | Arun Gandhi | TEDxAthens

Title:
Nonviolence or nonexistence: choice of the 21st century | Arun Gandhi | TEDxAthens
Description:

Arun Gandhi outlines the responsibilities of every individual towards creating world peace. Peace is not the absence of war. Peace is the creating of equality and harmony in society. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohandas “Mahatma” Gandhi, was born in Durban, South Africa, during the apartheid years. At age 12, Arun was taken to India to live with his famous grandfather and learn ways to cope with his anger and violent reactions that stemmed from the prejudice he had been subjected to while growing up. During his time in India, he learned valuable lessons from his grandfather.

Arun is now the President of the Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute, taking the message of nonviolence all over the world and rescuing and training children living in poverty so that they can break the oppressive cycle they live within. He also started the M. K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence in Rochester, New York, which runs programs for inner-city children, inmates of correctional facilities and poor families and also teaches nonviolence to students. Arun leads two Legacy Tours in India and South Africa, both annual and open to all interested in field studies of nonviolence and peace.
