Hello all. I'm Evildea. Your God.
-
and today I will talk about
-
the one-year anniversary of the Esperanto Duolingo course
-
That seemed a little strange
-
what happened to my voice?
-
So, today I just want to talk to you
-
about the one-year anniversary
-
of the Esperanto course on Duolingo
-
because a lot has happened during the past year
-
and often I see comments
-
from old Esperantists
-
who like to complain about things
-
and they say, "Oh yes there are many people
-
who've started studying Esperanto
-
with Duolingo, but really how many of them
-
will be active in the Esperanto movement etc."
-
and I just can't understand that attitude
-
but I just want to now
-
present my thoughts on the matter
-
because I believe the Duolingo Esperanto course
-
or the Esperanto course at Duolingo
-
is one of the most important ...
-
no ... not one of ...
-
it is the most important thing
-
to happen to Esperanto
-
in the past few years
-
and I can say that from several viewpoints
-
So, first, I'm a vlogger
-
and I started vlogging
-
a little before the launch
-
of the Duolingo Esperanto course
-
and at that time I was basically the only vlogger
-
really, there were no other active vloggers
-
and I stared to do this because
-
really, I started "to continue to do this"
-
Can someone "start to continue to do do something"
-
I don't know
-
but I continued to do this
-
because I wanted to make films for the Esperanto community
-
and little by little I saw
-
vloggers and lets-players,
-
who are people that record games
-
just appear here and there
-
and now I can name
-
at least twenty others who
-
make vlogs and record
-
video-games for YouTube
-
and that occurred only during the past year
-
of the course on Duolingo
-
of the Esperanto course on Duolingo
-
because before then, really, there
-
wasn't anyone else who made vlogs
-
and lets-plays of games etc.
-
and I believe and suppose that
-
I'm correct in this matter
-
that this has occurred
-
now because there are many young people
-
who know and use the internet, and have started studying Esperanto
-
and have wanted to create material for the Esperanto community
-
and I'm very happy about this
-
and also there are a lot more websites which have appeared
-
In fact, I met with a Duolingo learner
-
the other day when I was at university
-
with Dmitry and we were speaking
-
among ourselves using Esperanto when randomly
-
another person, who was at the uni
-
said, "Do you speak Esperanto?"
-
and I said "Oh, yes how do you know about it?"
-
"How did you guess that I was speaking Esperanto?"
-
then he said that he's studying Italian
-
with Duolingo
-
and he'd previously explored Esperanto a little
-
with YouTube. He heard some films
-
and other things.
-
In fact, he'd never previously seen me [On YouTube]
-
So that's somewhat sad
-
but yes, he'd previously heard about Esperanto through Duolingo
-
He didn't started learning the language
-
because he thought no one really spoke it
-
but now, because he's seen two speakers
-
in the same location who speak it fluently
-
he said that he might later check it out
-
So, that was just a random encounter
-
and I can say that during six / seven years
-
of using ... Esperanto ...
-
That's only ever happened once before
-
in Switzerland
-
and I've previously made a film about that ... but she
-
was an Esperanto speaker ... but that's not important
-
to the topic of this vlog
-
but also I during my time
-
as an Esperanto speaker I've never seen
-
a new face in the local community.
-
I was the newest Esperanto speaker and after that
-
there weren't any other new speakers
-
but in the past year
-
I've seen in total perhaps ten new Esperanto speakers
-
who live here in Sydney
-
not all of them come to our meetups
-
they come maybe one or two times
-
but I've already become friends with them
-
on Facebook. I spoke with some of them.
-
I filmed some of them
-
I feel that the local community
-
has now come back to life
-
previously it almost died
-
and I even made a film about that ages ago
-
about the slow death of the associations here
-
and I guess that
-
the associations will still die in the future
-
but it appears there are many people
-
who've started learning Esperanto because of Duolingo
-
and I've heard of Esperanto speakers who've joined
-
other associations around the world
-
taken part in meetups and even
-
revived some groups etc.
-
So, I just want to say
-
- because I know this film
-
is delayed by a week
-
I want to say thank you
-
to the Duolingo team
-
Thank them in the comment section
-
below with me
-
and I just can't wait for
-
the Esperanto course for Spanish speakers
-
I really look forward to that moment
-
when it's finally released to the public
-
I can't ... I can't study with it
-
but I know that finally we'll have
-
a large group of people who
-
aren't English speakers starting
-
to study Esperanto from South America
-
and perhaps ... from Spain, of course
-
It will be interesting to see ...
-
F**k, I can't talk this morning
-
Well, I need to let you know; this morning
-
for four house, I was teaching English
-
to several students
-
Ah, f**k my arm is killing me
-
I need ... I need to finish
-
this film off
-
and now I want to say
-
I intend to at least once a week
-
make films about languages
-
which will be really professional films
-
but during the other days, every second day
-
I'll just make vlogs and
-
complain about things again
-
because now I have a script writer
-
Yes, I have a script writer
-
He'll script my films about language topics
-
for me ... and I can just make the films
-
So, finally I have help
-
So, that is all
-
If you've liked this film
-
Like it. Share it around.
-
Sub to my channel if you haven't already
-
and I'll see you all in the next film
-
and if you're not there
-
I will find you
-
and bite you ...
