Capture Space

  • 0:00 - 0:05
Hello this is a quick tutorial I am
Katie Walker I'm going to show you how
  • 0:05 - 0:12
to use capturespace to create a video
presentation or screencast on the first
  • 0:12 - 0:17
step is to install the capture space
software this is something you only have
  • 0:17 - 0:23
to do once but you start off by going to
the media space you a Alaska dot edu
  • 0:23 - 0:32
website which you can see here and you
click guest and then you log in and you
  • 0:32 - 0:38
log in just like you log into blackboard
and you'll see your name up here in
  • 0:38 - 0:43
order to find capturespace click on add
new if you do not see capturespace here
  • 0:43 - 0:50
call the call center at seven eight six
four six four six when you click on that
  • 0:50 - 0:55
you'll see the options to download
either for Windows or for Mac and then
  • 0:55 - 0:59
of course after you've downloaded it you
need to click on the downloaded file and
  • 0:59 - 1:06
install it once you do that you will see
the capture space can be opened directly
  • 1:06 - 1:09
from your computer menu because it's
installed on your computer and you no
  • 1:09 - 1:14
longer have to go to this website so you
can see that there's a lot of different
  • 1:14 - 1:18
options for use and capture space the
one I'm going to demonstrate today is
  • 1:18 - 1:23
the presentations and lectures so what
you do is you click on presentations and
  • 1:23 - 1:30
lectures and it shows up with whatever
the last thing I did was so the the
  • 1:30 - 1:33
options on the left are very important
you first have to choose the correct
  • 1:33 - 1:38
webcam you may have more than one and
secondly you have to choose whether you
  • 1:38 - 1:42
want a screen capture or a presentation
one or the other so I'm doing a
  • 1:42 - 1:47
presentation so I'm going to browse and
I'm going to pick one of my
  • 1:47 - 1:57
    presentations just randomly picking one
as an example here and then the last
  • 1:57 - 2:01
thing is to check which microphone I'm
using and make sure it's maybe the best
  • 2:01 - 2:07
quality microphone so after I've chosen
my camera chosen presentation and put my
  • 2:07 - 2:14
    PowerPoint presentation here and chosen
my sound then I'm ready to record
  • 2:14 - 2:20
so once you record it's going to show
you your slides and give you the
  • 2:20 - 2:25
opportunity to click or right click to
change slides and narrate through your
  • 2:25 - 2:29
    presentation
you can pause it at any time and when
  • 2:29 - 2:34
you're finished you'll hit done in this
case I'm going to pause this screencast
  • 2:34 - 2:39
for a moment so that I can do it and
show you the second step so once you've
  • 2:39 - 2:44
    recorded your presentation you will
click done and then it'll bring up this
  • 2:44 - 2:48
preview and you can take a look at it
and see how it looks when you're happy
  • 2:48 - 2:54
with it you'll hit done again then it'll
ask you to fill out the title and the
  • 2:54 - 3:02
description and tags and then you want
to upload it and when you upload it it
  • 3:02 - 3:07
is going to go into my media now it'll
take longer if it's a longer video I
  • 3:07 - 3:15
made a really really short video so it's
very quick and so it gives me a URL but
  • 3:15 - 3:22
also when I go to blackboard and I click
on my media I will find the video that I
  • 3:22 - 3:28
just recorded in my media and notice
it's showing just a temporary image
  • 3:28 - 3:32
because I've just done it a moment ago
this was a practice one that I did
  • 3:32 - 3:36
earlier I'm going to go ahead and delete
that one so this isn't like my own
  • 3:36 - 3:41
private YouTube channel so nobody else
can see this this yet but this is where
  • 3:41 - 3:47
all videos I make with coucher are saved
Plus this is where I can just simply
  • 3:47 - 3:52
upload plain old videos that I have from
from a previous streaming server or from
  • 3:52 - 3:56
somewhere else so this is not a
necessary step I just wanted to show you
  • 3:56 - 4:01
where it is whenever you want to share
it with other people you have to put it
  • 4:01 - 4:06
into blackboard and there's a number of
ways you can do that but one way is on a
  • 4:06 - 4:11
blog or a discussion board or in an
assignment you will find a mashups
  • 4:11 - 4:15
button so it doesn't matter which one of
the blackboard tools are in when you see
  • 4:15 - 4:21
mashups you simply choose Kaltura and
then you will again get that list of
  • 4:21 - 4:25
everything that's in your my media and
here's the one I've just done and I'll
  • 4:25 - 4:29
    select that
and it'll just insert it with a
  • 4:29 - 4:33
thumbnail and I've added it below what I
did previously it'll put it right in
  • 4:33 - 4:37
there and that's how you can add it to
blackboard so hopefully this will give
  • 4:37 - 4:43
you a good idea of how to use capture
space to create a presentation and add
  • 4:43 - 4:46
    it to blackboard
