Mozilla's Alex Fowler and Dethe Elza discuss Lightbeam

i am alex fowler and i work on privacy and policy for mozilla

so we launched a new firefox add on called like me

and light beam is a tool that informed user

about all the interactions they have via their browser

it's meant to improve people literacy about privacy

there are 2 main ways that this is core to mozilla mission

first of all this is really about educations really about bringing to light

the interactions that we have is users online

and all the companies that we interact with so it's really about

teaching learning knowing understanding the weather

the second way that this is core to mission is that we b're building an open dataset

so that others can build on this find new ways to educate

new ways to inform and ultimately create new control mechanism for users for their privacy on the web

i'm really excited about how the community can take the code hacked build it make it better

make it more responsive to users needs

so we really educate people how the web works and what they can do to control their own experience of online

i'm Dethe Elza i'm the lead developer light beam

because we care a lot about privacy on web works to make tools to help to people about privacy

well we're hoping to put even more type 2 visualization and more type detection things that can been going on

the crowd sourcing is could everyone can go in and help us gather information about which sites have

privacy policy and which are hearing to do track and trying to build the big picture

for privacy online
