-
Wielding a mantra.
-
A mantra is a sacred utterance
-
believed to have religious, magical or spiritual powers
-
in Eastern religions.
-
Our teacher, Thích Nhất Hạnh, taught us many wonderful mantras in English,
-
and over the years I have also concocted some on my own.
-
I'd like to offer you a few below.
-
They sound so simple, but they truly work.
-
Of course, you may not be able to wield the magic at first,
-
so it takes patience and practice.
-
Follow your breath a few times before you say a mantra
-
with as much sincerity and clarity as you can.
-
They can have a profound positive effect on your body and mind
-
as soon as you pronounce them.
-
As you practice these mantras diligently,
-
they replace your habitual negative thoughts and feelings.
-
For example, instead of thinking
-
I'm bored.
-
It's horrible,
-
and suffering through a painful situation.
-
Saying the mantra, I am here for you.
-
Or, smile, my dear,
-
and aligning yourself with it
-
will dispel your negative thoughts and empower you.
-
Your face, your circumstances with a more balanced mind.
-
Here are some simple mantras to say to yourself
-
to help you overcome difficulties.
-
In time, you can formulate some more mantras
-
that you can tailor to your personality and situation.
-
When you are anxious or stressed,
-
you can say these mantras.
-
Breathe.
-
You'll be okay.
-
Smile, my dear.
-
I'm here for you.
-
I'm okay.
-
I love you so.
-
When you recognize you need to take care of yourself.
-
You can say these mantras.
-
Help me to take better care of you.
-
Thank you for trying.
-
Thank you for doing your best.
-
I'm sorry.
-
Thank you for always being there for me.
-
When you are aware your thoughts are negative or stuck,
-
you can say these mantras.
-
Are you sure?
-
If you are sure, check again.
-
This, too, will pass.
-
And when you are rushing, you can say these mantras.
-
This is a happy moment.
-
Oh, my happiness.
-
I am beautiful.
-
I am enough.
-
I am so blessed.
-
I am whole.
