Introducing TED-Ed: Lessons Worth Sharing
-
0:01 - 0:02Right now, somewhere out there,
-
0:02 - 0:05an educator is delivering
a mind-altering lesson to their class. -
0:06 - 0:08I want to engage your brains in this.
-
0:08 - 0:12Chris Anderson: I tried to get
my head around how vast our Earth is. -
0:12 - 0:15Logan Smalley: That lesson only reaches
the students in that room. -
0:15 - 0:17What would happen if we captured it?
-
0:17 - 0:18It's a toothed wheel.
-
0:18 - 0:20LS: What if pro animators
and visualization artists -
0:20 - 0:22could bring that lesson to life?
-
0:22 - 0:25CA: It's a common object
that literally fits one million Earths. -
0:25 - 0:27It's got a bunch of notches
and a bunch of teeth. -
0:27 - 0:29This was Fizeau's solution --
-
0:29 - 0:31LS: When that lesson lands,
curiosity is ignited. -
0:31 - 0:32CA: It seems impossibly big.
-
0:33 - 0:34AS: Something interesting happens.
-
0:34 - 0:37CA: In the great scheme
of things, it's a pinprick. -
0:37 - 0:41AS: A door closes on the light beam
that's coming back to his eye. -
0:41 - 0:43LS: Then that group of students
is one thought closer -
0:43 - 0:47to being what every teacher
hopes their students will become: -
0:47 - 0:48a lifelong learner.
-
0:48 - 0:50AS: Based on the distance
between the two stations -- -
0:50 - 0:53CA: The quest for knowledge
and understanding never gets dull. -
0:53 - 0:57AS: He calculates the speed of light
to within two percent of its actual value. -
0:57 - 1:01CA: The more you know,
the more amazing the world seems. -
1:01 - 1:03That's the central mission of TED-Ed:
-
1:03 - 1:05to capture and to amplify
-
1:05 - 1:07the voice of the world's
greatest teachers. -
1:07 - 1:10He does this in 1849.
-
1:10 - 1:13CA: It's the crazy possibilities,
the unanswered questions, -
1:13 - 1:14that pull us forward.
-
1:14 - 1:17So stay curious.
-
1:20 - 1:24TED-Ed is really an invitation
to teachers all around the world -
1:24 - 1:25to submit their best lessons.
-
1:25 - 1:29Jordan Reeves: We review each submission
and work with the educators -
1:29 - 1:32to refine the lesson and make sure
that they're less than ten minutes long. -
1:32 - 1:35From there, we mail out
these portable recording booths. -
1:35 - 1:37A teacher pulls up their final lesson,
-
1:37 - 1:40presses record and can instantly share it
with our animation team. -
1:40 - 1:43It's also an invitation to animators.
-
1:43 - 1:45We are looking for talented animators
-
1:45 - 1:47to get involved, submit their reels
-
1:47 - 1:50and help us animate
these incredible lessons. -
1:51 - 1:54LS: Right now, there's a gifted educator
somewhere out there -
1:54 - 1:55delivering a life-changing lesson.
-
1:55 - 1:59The TED-Ed team hopes that anyone
who is passionate about education -
1:59 - 2:00will help us find that teacher,
-
2:00 - 2:03capture that moment and amplify it
-
2:03 - 2:05the way that it deserves to be amplified.
