Changing the Song | Sister Dang Nghiem

  • 0:01 - 0:02
    Changing the song.
  • 0:04 - 0:08
This practice relates to the four diligences,
  • 0:09 - 0:13
watering the positive seeds and not the negative seeds,
  • 0:14 - 0:17
that have arisen or not yet arisen.
  • 0:19 - 0:22
When a song starts playing that we don't like,
  • 0:22 - 0:24
    we can change this song.
  • 0:25 - 0:28
If we notice that negative mental states
  • 0:28 - 0:31
    are being watered.
  • 0:32 - 0:35
We can consciously change the scene.
  • 0:37 - 0:38
    For example,
  • 0:38 - 0:42
if you're watching a movie that has violence
  • 0:42 - 0:43
    or sexual abuse,
  • 0:44 - 0:47
and it's making you cry or feel sick,
  • 0:48 - 0:51
you do not have to sit there and endure it.
  • 0:52 - 0:57
Just because such scenes have been normalized as entertainment,
  • 0:57 - 1:00
does not mean they are indeed normal.
  • 1:02 - 1:03
    Change the channel,
  • 1:04 - 1:07
turn the television or the computer off.
  • 1:08 - 1:10
Leave the room or the theater.
  • 1:11 - 1:14
Go for a walk or sit quietly,
  • 1:14 - 1:16
    to calm your emotions.
  • 1:18 - 1:21
And remember, you have every right
  • 1:22 - 1:26
to avoid that sort of triggering experience in the future.
