KIDS REACT TO POKEMON (Bonus #139)

- Oh my gosh.

My whole grade is obsessed with Pokémon.

They bring their cards to class.
It's so annoying.

- ♪ To train them is my call ♪

- I don't get why
there's a move called "lick".

What is the point of that?

- (singing along) ♪ Searching far and wide ♪

♪ Dun-doo-doo-doo ♪

- ♪ Each Pokémon to understand ♪

♪ The power that's inside ♪
- It's a pretty good song.

- ♪ Pokémon, gotta catch 'em all ♪

- Oh my gosh! I love Pokémon.

- (children) Pokémon!

- (Finebros) Who would you say
is your favorite character

in Pokémon and why?
- I don't have a favorite

because I love a lot of them.

- I like most of the characters.

- I like one from every series.

- I like Pikachu a lot.

- Pikachu and Oshawott.
Those are the cutest ones.

- (Finebros) Have you
ever watched the TV show?

- A little bit.

- I watched that one,
the new one, Black and White,

and then I watched all the movies.

- I loved the first characters!

Like, I loved Brock.
He was so funny.

In every single Pokémon series,

at least one gym leader
leaves the gym to go with Ash.

- (Finebros) And what about the video games?
Are you into them?

- Pokémon video games?
I do play on my Wii.

- No, because usually a lot of them are old

or they cost money on Steam or something.

- I never had a DS
or anything or a Nintendo.

I don't think that
my parents loved me enough.

I'm just joking! (laughs)

That's kind of an inside joke.

I tell them that they don't love me a lot,

but they really do love me.

- (Finebros) And what about Pokémon cards?
Do you collect them?

- Uh, I used to.

- I was never into them.

- It's just not my thing.
I don't really like card games.

I don't really like anime.

- I lost one-- my Jigglypuff one.

- I went over to my friend's house

and he had a deck of cards to use,
and I had some too.

I didn't know what I was doing,
but I kept beating him the whole time.

- (Finebros) So do you know when
Pokémon first came onto television?

- 1990?

- 1991.

- 2000 and... I'm gonna say three?

- 2002!

Was it in the 2000s?

- (Finebros) Before.
- Like 1950?

- (Finebros) You went way
too far back now. (laughs)

- 1979.
- (Finebros) Keep going forward.

- 1981, 1982, 1983.

Oh my god. I'm not gonna do this.

- 2000... no, no, no. 1998.

- (Finebros) So close. So close.

- Oh, dang it!

- (Finebros) So Pokémon has been
this big thing for a very long time.

Is it still something
that kids are into today?

- At my school, yeah, it's very popular.

- Yeah, they have Pokémon cards
and then they battle at school.

- Definitely. A lot of kids at my school
still play with the Pokémon stuff.

- To my friends, not really,
but to some other people

it's kind of a big deal.

- Everybody at my school was really into it,

and so I'd just sit around after school

seeing people go, "Pokémon!"

- (Finebros) What is something
that all kids are into these days?

- All I know is Super Smash
'cause it has Pikachu and Charizard in it.

- Steven Universe for sure.

A lot of people-- I mean,
some people just absolutely hate it.

Some people absolutely love it.
I'm one of those people that love it.

- Magic and then there's Bakugan.

Card games are definitely still a thing

and they will always still be a thing.

Like, I like Poker.
I like Black Jack.

I can still crush
a 30 year old at Black Jack.

- (Finebros) So many adults
will make a stereotype

and say that kids these days
are only on their phones

playing apps and games,
but is that not really the full story?

- (scoffs) You always see
kids outside playing basketball.

You always see them doing other stuff.

You always see them doing their homework.

It's not just apps
and games and everything.

A lot of adults are always
on their phones and everything,

including my mom.

- (Finebros) Do you hope
that when you're older

and have kids of your own
that Pokémon will still be around

and that your kids will like it?
- Hopefully.

That'll be a dream.

Because we can have
something to relate to.

Like, "Did you catch all 151 yet?"

It's like, "No, not yet, daddy!

Not yet. I'm working on it!"
