The Fullness Formula: God’s Call to Israel and the Nations Together (Pt 5) | Ariel Blumenthal

  • 0:01 - 0:03
all right well let's uh just open with a
  • 0:03 - 0:04
word of prayer and we're going to
  • 0:04 - 0:07
continue today in this series uh I've
  • 0:07 - 0:09
been teaching through Romans 9 10 and 11
  • 0:09 - 0:12
this is the fifth uh installment or
  • 0:12 - 0:14
session whatever you call it and it's
  • 0:14 - 0:17
going to focus today on the whole idea
  • 0:17 - 0:20
of the remnant okay which is a big big
  • 0:20 - 0:22
theme in uh in these chapters so let's
  • 0:22 - 0:24
just pray father we thank you for this
  • 0:24 - 0:27
time we thank you for your word and uh
  • 0:27 - 0:29
thank you for the depth and Riches of it
  • 0:29 - 0:32
and how we are called to study it and
  • 0:32 - 0:34
know it uh and how it builds us Lord
  • 0:34 - 0:37
help my words whatever you've showed me
  • 0:37 - 0:40
taught me Lord let it come in a way that
  • 0:40 - 0:43
would help and build up those here in
  • 0:43 - 0:45
this room and all those who are going to
  • 0:45 - 0:47
watch this video uh somewhere or
  • 0:47 - 0:51
sometime bashem Yeshua amen all right so
  • 0:51 - 0:54
just a quick little review right Romans
  • 0:54 - 0:57
9:10 and 11 started in Romans 9 of
  • 0:57 - 0:59
course Paul's burden and then we got to
  • 0:59 - 1:03
verse 6 this crisis has the word of God
  • 1:03 - 1:05
come to no effect and we talked a lot
  • 1:05 - 1:07
about what that means and what people
  • 1:07 - 1:08
were saying and all what's happened to
  • 1:08 - 1:10
the promises of Israel the Jewish people
  • 1:10 - 1:13
to Jerusalem and remember Paul was
  • 1:13 - 1:17
writing all this 10 15 years before the
  • 1:17 - 1:18
destruction of Jerusalem in the temple
  • 1:18 - 1:21
but it was like prophetically announcing
  • 1:21 - 1:23
seeing this coming and what it would
  • 1:23 - 1:26
mean for people who were reading the the
  • 1:26 - 1:28
Bible which was the Old Testament at the
  • 1:28 - 1:30
time right what we call and seeing all
  • 1:30 - 1:31
these Promises of the glory and
  • 1:31 - 1:33
restoration of Jerusalem and the Jewish
  • 1:33 - 1:35
people coming back and instead the
  • 1:35 - 1:38
opposite happened and he is going to I
  • 1:38 - 1:41
told you he's going to lay out that this
  • 1:41 - 1:43
    word of God has not
  • 1:43 - 1:46
failed but there's some surprises and
  • 1:46 - 1:49
it's coming to pass in three big
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    categories paradigms you guys remember
  • 1:51 - 1:52
what they are I'm just going to keep on
  • 1:52 - 1:54
nailing it and hitting them the first
  • 1:54 - 1:55
one is the remnant that's the one we're
  • 1:55 - 1:58
going to focus on today the second one
  • 1:58 - 2:00
is the Gentiles the Nations the new man
  • 2:00 - 2:03
that was the big surprise right and then
  • 2:03 - 2:05
the third one we're going to get to in a
  • 2:05 - 2:07
week or two is Romans 11 the ultimate
  • 2:07 - 2:10
fullness of all the promises of God in
  • 2:10 - 2:13
this and then last week last two weeks
  • 2:13 - 2:15
we focused on Romans 10 it's like Paul
  • 2:15 - 2:18
kind of pauses and says well I'm I'm
  • 2:18 - 2:20
teaching you all these big theological
  • 2:20 - 2:22
things about the word of God and history
  • 2:22 - 2:25
and prophecy but don't forget folks it
  • 2:25 - 2:27
all happens in him in the gospel right
  • 2:27 - 2:29
this simple gospel that we Proclaim that
  • 2:29 - 2:32
we're sent out for and that's how it's
  • 2:32 - 2:34
going to happen for the remnant for the
  • 2:34 - 2:35
one new man and the ultimate fullness
  • 2:35 - 2:38
it's all about him there's no dual
  • 2:38 - 2:39
covenant where the Jewish people are
  • 2:39 - 2:41
going to get saved by coming in through
  • 2:41 - 2:44
a back door of Moses and the Torah
  • 2:44 - 2:46
without Yeshua no no no it's all in him
  • 2:46 - 2:51
remember Romans 10 okay um so today
  • 2:51 - 2:53
we're we finished Romans 10 last week
  • 2:53 - 2:55
we're going to start into Romans 11 and
  • 2:55 - 2:58
I have to tell you I've been I hope you
  • 2:58 - 3:00
admire my patience I love teaching
  • 3:00 - 3:02
Romans 11 and I've taught it hundreds of
  • 3:02 - 3:04
times and I love there's we're going to
  • 3:04 - 3:06
get to some great stuff but I I've taken
  • 3:06 - 3:07
my time getting there because there's
  • 3:07 - 3:10
all this other stuff right you just got
  • 3:10 - 3:12
to stop and and dig into and I'm
  • 3:12 - 3:13
reminding you of something I've said
  • 3:13 - 3:16
almost every time we're going to go into
  • 3:16 - 3:18
the scriptures that Paul quotes remember
  • 3:18 - 3:21
the iceberg principle right all of he
  • 3:21 - 3:24
quotes hundreds of times in the Book of
  • 3:24 - 3:27
Romans from the Tanakh from the Old
  • 3:27 - 3:29
Testament and it it's the iceberg
  • 3:29 - 3:31
through what the verse is just the tip
  • 3:31 - 3:34
of the iceberg right he's not just sort
  • 3:34 - 3:36
of you know randomly pulling things out
  • 3:36 - 3:39
of this there's a reason and you got to
  • 3:39 - 3:40
stop and if you want to enrich your
  • 3:40 - 3:43
Bible study and your devotion you got to
  • 3:43 - 3:45
stop and go wait a minute this is Isaiah
  • 3:45 - 3:47
chapter 1 what's going on in Isaiah
  • 3:47 - 3:49
chapter let's go back to those verses
  • 3:49 - 3:51
and read them and the context and the
  • 3:51 - 3:53
spirit of what's going on there oh
  • 3:53 - 3:55
    there's a whole other there's a whole
  • 3:55 - 3:57
lot more that Paul's referring to right
  • 3:57 - 4:01
    we're going to do that Romans 11 1 2 1
  • 4:01 - 4:04
and two I say then God has not rejected
  • 4:04 - 4:08
his people has he may it never
  • 4:08 - 4:11
be for I too am an Israelite a
  • 4:11 - 4:13
descendant of Abraham of The Tribe of
  • 4:13 - 4:15
Benjamin God has not rejected his people
  • 4:15 - 4:17
    whom he
  • 4:17 - 4:21
forew okay um now he does this you know
  • 4:21 - 4:23
it's kind of a rhetorical question you
  • 4:23 - 4:24
know all that means he's he starts with
  • 4:24 - 4:27
a question is God rejected his people he
  • 4:27 - 4:29
ask the question so that he can answer
  • 4:29 - 4:31
it right well what what's why is he
  • 4:31 - 4:33
asking that question well that's the end
  • 4:33 - 4:34
of we have to go back to the end of
  • 4:34 - 4:36
Romans 10 and the last few verses of
  • 4:36 - 4:40
Romans 10 he quotes from Isaiah 65 about
  • 4:40 - 4:42
God reaching his hands out all day long
  • 4:42 - 4:45
to an obstinate idolatrous Nation who
  • 4:45 - 4:48
are rebelling against him and playing
  • 4:48 - 4:49
the Harlot with all of that that's
  • 4:49 - 4:52
Israel right and his judgment and
  • 4:52 - 4:56
rejection of Israel right and he said
  • 4:56 - 4:57
okay well guys what am I saying am I
  • 4:57 - 4:59
saying that God's finished with Israel
  • 4:59 - 5:00
    that this is the last
  • 5:00 - 5:04
word about Israel has God rejected no no
  • 5:04 - 5:06
no no that's not what I'm saying let me
  • 5:06 - 5:07
    tell
  • 5:07 - 5:10
you and the first thing is as we've been
  • 5:10 - 5:11
studying it's the remnant The Remnant
  • 5:11 - 5:13
and here he kind of gets into what this
  • 5:13 - 5:15
whole Remnant thing is and we're going
  • 5:15 - 5:16
to study this and also go back to the
  • 5:16 - 5:18
end of Romans nine where he talks a lot
  • 5:18 - 5:21
    about the remnant too
  • 5:21 - 5:23
    um you
  • 5:23 - 5:26
know his he said he asked the question
  • 5:26 - 5:27
    has God rejected his
  • 5:27 - 5:29
people and then he says no may it never
  • 5:29 - 5:32
be and then what does he say he says
  • 5:32 - 5:36
basically look at me right I he doesn't
  • 5:36 - 5:38
say well look at the Jerusalem Church
  • 5:38 - 5:39
there's 10,000 people in the back there
  • 5:39 - 5:41
and there's there God is Not rejected
  • 5:41 - 5:44
there's a Remnant he doesn't say he says
  • 5:44 - 5:48
I I am an Israelite a descendant of
  • 5:48 - 5:50
Abraham of The Tribe of Benjamin
  • 5:50 - 5:51
therefore God has not rejected his
  • 5:51 - 5:53
people you got stop and thinking about
  • 5:53 - 5:55
    that go that's
  • 5:55 - 5:59
pretty pompous maybe a little arrogant
  • 5:59 - 6:02
to say say all the promises of is to
  • 6:02 - 6:04
Israel God has not rejected his people
  • 6:04 - 6:06
because I believe because I have the
  • 6:06 - 6:08
    Holy
  • 6:08 - 6:11
Spirit um have you ever thought that way
  • 6:11 - 6:14
have you ever felt like maybe you're the
  • 6:14 - 6:17
only one or the only true faithful one
  • 6:17 - 6:18
    who really gets
  • 6:18 - 6:21
it it's kind of I think all of us go
  • 6:21 - 6:23
through that if especially if you're
  • 6:23 - 6:25
    like a really successful anointed
  • 6:25 - 6:26
minister with a big Ministry you know
  • 6:26 - 6:30
you start to think like I'm it you know
  • 6:30 - 6:32
and uh without me God couldn't do his
  • 6:32 - 6:36
work and all that then what Paul does to
  • 6:36 - 6:39
sort of back up and to and to strengthen
  • 6:39 - 6:41
what he's trying to say he tells the
  • 6:41 - 6:43
story of Elijah okay that's the rest of
  • 6:43 - 6:45
verse two or don't you know what the
  • 6:45 - 6:47
scripture says in the passage about
  • 6:47 - 6:51
Elijah how he pleads with God against
  • 6:51 - 6:53
Israel all right now this is you got to
  • 6:53 - 6:55
go back to the story in First Kings
  • 6:55 - 6:57
chapter 171 1819 the story of Elijah who
  • 6:57 - 7:01
was really like the lone prophet okay
  • 7:01 - 7:03
there he is prophesying to Ahab against
  • 7:03 - 7:05
you know in the northern kingdom in
  • 7:05 - 7:08
    Samaria terribly idolatrous with Ahab
  • 7:08 - 7:09
    and
  • 7:09 - 7:11
his what kind of wife I don't even want
  • 7:11 - 7:12
to think of what I want to say about
  • 7:12 - 7:15
Jezebel about Isabel you know and and
  • 7:15 - 7:17
all the They terrible things and and
  • 7:17 - 7:19
Elijah gets up there and says three
  • 7:19 - 7:21
years there's going to be no no rain
  • 7:21 - 7:23
until I say so and you know the story
  • 7:23 - 7:25
right and three years comes and then God
  • 7:25 - 7:27
speaks to him and what happens on Mount
  • 7:27 - 7:30
    Carmel right this incredible vict
  • 7:30 - 7:32
victory Of Fire coming down on the wet
  • 7:32 - 7:35
sacrifice you know all the story right
  • 7:35 - 7:38
and then it's in in as the story
  • 7:38 - 7:41
    continues after this amazing Victory
  • 7:41 - 7:43
right and they kill the people rise up
  • 7:43 - 7:47
and Slaughter the 450 prophets of B okay
  • 7:47 - 7:49
it's a big Revival it next thing says
  • 7:49 - 7:52
that Jezebel well she had some spiritual
  • 7:52 - 7:55
power this woman she was she heard what
  • 7:55 - 7:56
Elijah did and she said that's um we got
  • 7:56 - 7:59
to go kill him right it says Elijah got
  • 7:59 - 8:01
    to he just started running
  • 8:01 - 8:05
away he's running away and God he brings
  • 8:05 - 8:06
    him to this
  • 8:06 - 8:10
place HB Mount Si you know the story
  • 8:10 - 8:12
right the wind the Rev and he ask him
  • 8:12 - 8:17
this question okay um the question is
  • 8:17 - 8:18
you know Elijah what are you doing here
  • 8:18 - 8:20
and Elijah says he repeats something
  • 8:20 - 8:24
that he had said earlier I have been I
  • 8:24 - 8:26
have been very zealous for the Lord he
  • 8:26 - 8:29
means himself just just him the god of
  • 8:29 - 8:30
hosts for the sons of Israel have
  • 8:30 - 8:32
forsaken your Covenant torn down your
  • 8:32 - 8:34
altars and killed your prophets with the
  • 8:34 - 8:39
sword and I alone am left and they seek
  • 8:39 - 8:41
    my life to take it
  • 8:41 - 8:46
away wow I call this the Elijah complex
  • 8:46 - 8:49
okay and God tries to rebuke him for it
  • 8:49 - 8:50
    I think
  • 8:50 - 8:53
unsuccessfully um and you know what God
  • 8:53 - 8:55
says and what Paul quotes in Romans 11
  • 8:55 - 8:57
    God's answer
  • 8:57 - 9:00
    is Elijah chill out
  • 9:00 - 9:02
all right he didn't say that but that's
  • 9:02 - 9:05
    modern paraphrase okay modern California
  • 9:05 - 9:09
paraphrase uh chill out relax I have
  • 9:09 - 9:11
    Reserve preserved
  • 9:11 - 9:14
7,000 people in Israel who have not
  • 9:14 - 9:15
bowed their knee to Bow you're not the
  • 9:15 - 9:16
    only
  • 9:16 - 9:19
    one
  • 9:19 - 9:22
okay um you know this is a funny kind of
  • 9:22 - 9:23
remember this is what Paul this is the
  • 9:23 - 9:26
story that Paul is quoting and you got
  • 9:26 - 9:27
to think about Paul you know I think he
  • 9:27 - 9:30
    felt like Elijah sometimes
  • 9:30 - 9:33
you know he said in Colossians chapter 4
  • 9:33 - 9:35
when he's giving these greetings and
  • 9:35 - 9:36
talking about this and that people and
  • 9:36 - 9:39
    greet this guy and he
  • 9:39 - 9:42
says this in verses 10 and 11 arist
  • 9:42 - 9:45
arist arus my fellow prisoner sends you
  • 9:45 - 9:48
his greetings also Barnabas and Mark uh
  • 9:48 - 9:51
welcome him and yes Jesus Yeshua who is
  • 9:51 - 9:52
called Justice it shows you that the
  • 9:52 - 9:54
name Yeshua was a common name among
  • 9:54 - 9:56
Jewish people back then these are the
  • 9:56 - 9:58
only fellow workers from the kingdom of
  • 9:58 - 10:00
God who are from the circumcision
  • 10:00 - 10:03
did you catch that Paul in all of his
  • 10:03 - 10:06
ministry okay he was raising up churches
  • 10:06 - 10:08
and people and schools and disciples and
  • 10:08 - 10:10
this that and for sending them out he
  • 10:10 - 10:12
had I think it's two it depends how you
  • 10:12 - 10:14
read it could be three there were two
  • 10:14 - 10:16
other Jews he could have there's Timothy
  • 10:16 - 10:18
too maybe you forgot Timothy oh three
  • 10:18 - 10:21
all right from all of the Jewish people
  • 10:21 - 10:24
there were two or three who were
  • 10:24 - 10:29
faithful workers with him oh he felt as
  • 10:29 - 10:33
a Jew pretty alone okay but he knew that
  • 10:33 - 10:37
God was with him all right and I think
  • 10:37 - 10:38
for all of us you know there's this
  • 10:38 - 10:42
there's this lesson here that on the one
  • 10:42 - 10:46
hand each one of us has to wake up every
  • 10:46 - 10:49
morning and think the entire kingdom of
  • 10:49 - 10:51
    God depends on
  • 10:51 - 10:54
me uh and maybe I that's a little
  • 10:54 - 10:57
exaggeration but but but I've got a
  • 10:57 - 10:58
    calling there's a responsibility that
  • 10:58 - 11:00
God has given me in this generation in
  • 11:00 - 11:02
this place in this neighborhood in this
  • 11:02 - 11:04
job and if I don't do it nobody else
  • 11:04 - 11:06
will and I've got to get up and I've got
  • 11:06 - 11:08
to read my Bible and I've got to pray
  • 11:08 - 11:10
and I got to get out of all the negative
  • 11:10 - 11:12
thinking and complain because it all
  • 11:12 - 11:14
    depends on
  • 11:14 - 11:16
    me
  • 11:16 - 11:20
well sort of but you have to think that
  • 11:20 - 11:22
way but on the other hand you start
  • 11:22 - 11:24
praying like Yeshua taught us to pray
  • 11:24 - 11:25
how did you just pray what's the first
  • 11:25 - 11:28
words Our Father in Heaven the first
  • 11:28 - 11:30
words you go oh wait it's not just me
  • 11:30 - 11:33
it's not my Father in Heaven it's our oh
  • 11:33 - 11:35
there's other people I got to pray for
  • 11:35 - 11:36
them I've got brothers and sisters we're
  • 11:36 - 11:40
together I'm not alone I'm not alone but
  • 11:40 - 11:43
I am called and I have a responsibility
  • 11:43 - 11:45
and it does depend on me you you just
  • 11:45 - 11:47
one of these biblical balances you got
  • 11:47 - 11:49
to kind of walk in right not fall into
  • 11:49 - 11:52
the Elijah complex where you really
  • 11:52 - 11:55
think it's just me I'm the only one you
  • 11:55 - 11:57
know everything depends on me God what
  • 11:57 - 11:59
are you going to do without me no no no
  • 11:59 - 12:02
no don't think that way right but do
  • 12:02 - 12:04
think that you you are unique and every
  • 12:04 - 12:07
one of us needs to rise up and take
  • 12:07 - 12:09
    responsibility and then remember that
  • 12:09 - 12:11
    there's always 7,000 there's always
  • 12:11 - 12:13
that's the first thing that Paul there's
  • 12:13 - 12:14
always been a Remnant there's always
  • 12:14 - 12:18
been an organic chain of faith in Yeshua
  • 12:18 - 12:19
    among the Jewish people throughout
  • 12:19 - 12:21
history many of them were lost into the
  • 12:21 - 12:22
churches and this and that but they've
  • 12:22 - 12:25
been there God preserved it okay just as
  • 12:25 - 12:27
he preserved the davidic line through
  • 12:27 - 12:28
the Kings through the Exile all these
  • 12:28 - 12:30
things God knows what he's doing with
  • 12:30 - 12:34
his Remnant okay the second thing that
  • 12:34 - 12:36
we we learn from this is that you know
  • 12:36 - 12:39
God works through this is the principle
  • 12:39 - 12:42
of God he works through one he works
  • 12:42 - 12:44
through 300 in Gideon's time he works
  • 12:44 - 12:48
through a small Remnant right Yeshua in
  • 12:48 - 12:52
John 17 prays he says I don't pray for
  • 12:52 - 12:55
the world I pray for these those who
  • 12:55 - 12:57
have you've have given them your word
  • 12:57 - 13:00
they've known you I pray for them
  • 13:00 - 13:01
so that means Yeshua we were just
  • 13:01 - 13:03
interceding a lot here for the situation
  • 13:03 - 13:05
the Middle East when we're looking down
  • 13:05 - 13:07
in the Middle East on Israel or Lebanon
  • 13:07 - 13:10
what we should see first if we're in
  • 13:10 - 13:14
Yeshua he feels and sees his body right
  • 13:14 - 13:16
    and maybe one
  • 13:16 - 13:18
    person
  • 13:18 - 13:22
right it may be 10 people but God says
  • 13:22 - 13:24
pray for them because that's how he's
  • 13:24 - 13:25
going to work he's going to also do a
  • 13:25 - 13:28
lot of other things as he's God right
  • 13:28 - 13:31
but don't look at that look at that body
  • 13:31 - 13:32
you're going to you're praying for
  • 13:32 - 13:33
    another country you're praying for
  • 13:33 - 13:36
Israel find the body find the one person
  • 13:36 - 13:37
the 10 people find out what they what
  • 13:37 - 13:39
their needs are pray for them Jews and
  • 13:39 - 13:42
Arabs The Remnant God works through the
  • 13:42 - 13:44
remnant and you know we yonas kept on
  • 13:44 - 13:47
mentioning DNA today in our P there's
  • 13:47 - 13:50
something in the DNA of the remnant for
  • 13:50 - 13:52
every tribe tongue and nation that
  • 13:52 - 13:54
that's the deposit of God that's where
  • 13:54 - 13:56
the covenants of God are and for Israel
  • 13:56 - 13:58
Paul is saying you know I don't know if
  • 13:58 - 13:59
you caught this it was if you know
  • 13:59 - 14:02
another place here Paul says very
  • 14:02 - 14:05
proudly in a good way I'm in Israel I'm
  • 14:05 - 14:09
a Jew I'm of The Tribe of Benjamin do
  • 14:09 - 14:10
you remember when he used that language
  • 14:10 - 14:14
elsewhere in his letters one other place
  • 14:14 - 14:17
maybe two Philippians chapter 3 what is
  • 14:17 - 14:20
how does he use it there he says though
  • 14:20 - 14:21
I myself might have confidence in the
  • 14:21 - 14:24
flesh this is Philippians 3:4 and 5 if
  • 14:24 - 14:26
anyone else has a mind to put I am
  • 14:26 - 14:28
circumcised the eth day of the nation of
  • 14:28 - 14:30
Israel of The Tribe of Benjamin a Hebrew
  • 14:30 - 14:32
of Hebrews as to the law the Torah a
  • 14:32 - 14:34
Pharisee but then what you know what the
  • 14:34 - 14:38
next verse is but all this I count as
  • 14:38 - 14:41
rubbish compared he uses in Philippians
  • 14:41 - 14:43
    it's negative it's a negative
  • 14:43 - 14:45
Counterpoint all this Jewish stuff all
  • 14:45 - 14:46
    this glory of
  • 14:46 - 14:49
the here in Romans 11 it's the
  • 14:49 - 14:53
opposite Paul knew what he was doing he
  • 14:53 - 14:55
knew when it came to preaching the
  • 14:55 - 14:56
gospel and a lot of things of the
  • 14:56 - 14:58
    kingdom of God
  • 14:58 - 15:01
jewishness what a John the Baptist say
  • 15:01 - 15:03
if God wants to raise up children of
  • 15:03 - 15:05
Abraham from the stones he can don't
  • 15:05 - 15:07
count on your on your your pedigree
  • 15:07 - 15:08
    you're Jewish you can't it's not it's
  • 15:08 - 15:11
not going to help you on the other hand
  • 15:11 - 15:13
    Paul says there's a Remnant and it's
  • 15:13 - 15:17
significant and we need you need to
  • 15:17 - 15:19
understand it and God has a deposit
  • 15:19 - 15:21
there and it's a positive thing okay
  • 15:21 - 15:26
that's how it is in in Romans 11
  • 15:27 - 15:30
    um let's go
  • 15:30 - 15:33
to the other place in Romans 9:10 11
  • 15:33 - 15:34
    where Paul really
  • 15:34 - 15:37
emphasizes these this teaching about the
  • 15:37 - 15:39
remnant okay and that's at the end of
  • 15:39 - 15:41
chapter nine I skipped this when I
  • 15:41 - 15:45
    taught uh chapter nine verses
  • 15:45 - 15:49
27-29 okay and here he's quoting Isaiah
  • 15:49 - 15:51
    uh
  • 15:51 - 15:53
10 um where the word of Remnant in
  • 15:53 - 15:55
    Hebrew for
  • 15:55 - 15:58
those okay is repeated five six seven
  • 15:58 - 16:01
times in just a few verses in Isaiah
  • 16:01 - 16:03
    Romans 9:
  • 16:03 - 16:06
    27-29 Isaiah Cries Out concerning
  • 16:06 - 16:09
Israel though the number of the sons of
  • 16:09 - 16:10
Israel be like the sand of the sea it is
  • 16:10 - 16:14
    the remnant that will be
  • 16:15 - 16:17
saveda for the Lord will execute his
  • 16:17 - 16:19
word on on the earth thoroughly and
  • 16:19 - 16:21
quickly and just as Isaiah foretold
  • 16:21 - 16:23
    unless the Lord of
  • 16:23 - 16:26
sabot itot had left us a posterity a
  • 16:26 - 16:28
Remnant we would have become like Sodom
  • 16:28 - 16:31
and would have resembled gamorra okay
  • 16:31 - 16:33
I'm going to read to you what the first
  • 16:33 - 16:35
part those first verses according which
  • 16:35 - 16:39
    is Isaiah 10: 20- 22 Isaiah 10:2
  • 16:39 - 16:42
remember this is the iceberg principle
  • 16:42 - 16:45
okay now in that day the remnant of
  • 16:45 - 16:47
Israel and those of the House of Jacob
  • 16:47 - 16:50
who have escaped will never again rely
  • 16:50 - 16:52
on the one who struck them but will
  • 16:52 - 16:54
truly rely on the Lord the Holy One of
  • 16:54 - 16:58
Israel a Remnant will return the remnant
  • 16:58 - 17:00
of Jacob to the Mighty God for though
  • 17:00 - 17:02
your People Israel may be like the sand
  • 17:02 - 17:05
of the sea only a Remnant within them
  • 17:05 - 17:08
will return here in Isaiah it says
  • 17:08 - 17:11
return Paul in R said we'll be saved
  • 17:11 - 17:13
okay keep those two words in mind return
  • 17:13 - 17:16
and be saved a destruction is determined
  • 17:16 - 17:17
    overflowing with righteousness the
  • 17:17 - 17:20
context of Isaiah 10 is Isaiah preaching
  • 17:20 - 17:23
uh about Assyria coming Assyria already
  • 17:23 - 17:26
judged the northern kingdom and he's
  • 17:26 - 17:28
saying God is going to bring Assyria to
  • 17:28 - 17:31
judge also the southern Kingdom Judea
  • 17:31 - 17:33
ultimately because of the repentance of
  • 17:33 - 17:35
Isaiah and and King Hezekiah the
  • 17:35 - 17:38
judgment is stopped right I don't know
  • 17:38 - 17:41
    186,000 Assyrian soldiers die outside
  • 17:41 - 17:43
Jerusalem in one night imagine that kind
  • 17:43 - 17:46
    of Deliverance but then ultimately
  • 17:46 - 17:47
there's the the next generation is
  • 17:47 - 17:50
Babylon which becomes the judgment and
  • 17:50 - 17:51
that's what these prophets were were
  • 17:51 - 17:53
preaching about when they talked about a
  • 17:53 - 17:57
Remnant they weren't talking about a
  • 17:57 - 17:59
    spiritual remnant
  • 17:59 - 18:02
okay they were talking about a real
  • 18:02 - 18:05
physical Remnant a group of survivors
  • 18:05 - 18:09
folks okay that that that God was going
  • 18:09 - 18:11
he he judged Samaria and the northern
  • 18:11 - 18:13
kingdom scattered them he's going to
  • 18:13 - 18:16
judge Judea the southern Kingdom in the
  • 18:16 - 18:20
time of Jeremiah right and that happened
  • 18:20 - 18:21
    in the Babylonian
  • 18:21 - 18:24
exile and then and this is what we got
  • 18:24 - 18:25
to remember when we're reading the New
  • 18:25 - 18:29
Testament it's about to happen again
  • 18:29 - 18:31
okay and we got to to or to understand
  • 18:31 - 18:33
what Paul's saying and what he's
  • 18:33 - 18:35
prophesying you got to kind of we got to
  • 18:35 - 18:36
get in a time machine realize this is
  • 18:36 - 18:39
not just about me and personal salvation
  • 18:39 - 18:41
    okay he's prophesying about God's
  • 18:41 - 18:44
judgment on Israel you remember we
  • 18:44 - 18:46
started way back I think in the first uh
  • 18:46 - 18:50
session you know we read from acts 21-22
  • 18:50 - 18:52
when Paul came back to Jerusalem and and
  • 18:52 - 18:55
a riot they wanted to kill this guy
  • 18:55 - 18:57
remember that and what what happened
  • 18:57 - 18:58
what were they screaming when they
  • 18:58 - 19:00
realized who he was when he came back to
  • 19:00 - 19:02
the temple at Jerusalem they they were
  • 19:02 - 19:05
screaming this is the man who in every
  • 19:05 - 19:07
place all over the diaspora is teaching
  • 19:07 - 19:10
our people against Moses against the
  • 19:10 - 19:14
traditions and against this place the
  • 19:14 - 19:17
    temple right because starting with
  • 19:17 - 19:21
Yeshua and then his disciples he was
  • 19:21 - 19:23
    clearly prophesying just like Jeremiah
  • 19:23 - 19:25
that in our generation and it took 30
  • 19:25 - 19:27
years after the time of Yeshua 25 30
  • 19:27 - 19:29
    years that
  • 19:29 - 19:31
Jerusalem the temple is going to be
  • 19:31 - 19:34
destroyed again there's going to be
  • 19:34 - 19:36
terrible terrible judgment just as in
  • 19:36 - 19:37
    the time of
  • 19:37 - 19:39
    Jeremiah Jeremiah talks about women
  • 19:39 - 19:42
    eating their fetuses terrible terrible
  • 19:42 - 19:44
disgusting things of poverty of death
  • 19:44 - 19:47
and destruction in Jerusalem and they're
  • 19:47 - 19:48
say he's saying it's going to happen
  • 19:48 - 19:51
again so when Paul he quotes these
  • 19:51 - 19:53
things about a Remnant he not just
  • 19:53 - 19:54
talking about well there's going to be
  • 19:54 - 19:56
some Jews who get saved and believe in
  • 19:56 - 19:59
    Jesus all right he's saying
  • 19:59 - 20:04
that God is about to destroy Jerusalem
  • 20:04 - 20:08
and Judea again but he's always going to
  • 20:08 - 20:11
preserve a Remnant there will be this
  • 20:11 - 20:13
seed that cones a group of
  • 20:13 - 20:16
survivors right and folks this is I mean
  • 20:16 - 20:19
for for we as Jewish people this is like
  • 20:19 - 20:20
you know I was thinking about this as I
  • 20:20 - 20:24
Was preparing I thought you know this is
  • 20:24 - 20:28
it's it's in our Jewish DNA this remnant
  • 20:28 - 20:31
    surviv
  • 20:32 - 20:35
mentality or or reality I mean this
  • 20:35 - 20:37
country Israel today is is a is a
  • 20:37 - 20:39
Remnant country folks I'm I'm an
  • 20:39 - 20:41
ashkanazi Jew which mean sorry about
  • 20:41 - 20:43
that an ashkanazi Jew which means you
  • 20:43 - 20:46
know from central eastern Europe okay I
  • 20:46 - 20:48
grew up in the United States my
  • 20:48 - 20:51
    mother's side are third generation
  • 20:51 - 20:54
    Americans my father's side but
  • 20:54 - 20:57
ironically my wife and I we discovered
  • 20:57 - 21:00
uh that our ancestors came from more or
  • 21:00 - 21:03
less the same area in the Ukraine okay
  • 21:03 - 21:08
like 150 years ago okay hers came here
  • 21:08 - 21:10
in the first Aliah in the 1880s why did
  • 21:10 - 21:11
they come here because it was such
  • 21:11 - 21:13
because of the Dead Sea and the spas and
  • 21:13 - 21:17
the hotels no and the homos no they came
  • 21:17 - 21:19
here they were fleeing pges you've heard
  • 21:19 - 21:21
this word lately is be they've called
  • 21:21 - 21:22
what happened in Amsterdam a few weeks
  • 21:22 - 21:25
    ago a Pome I think it's a little
  • 21:25 - 21:27
overblown to call it a Pome whatever but
  • 21:27 - 21:29
they're using a word of what happened in
  • 21:29 - 21:31
    Eastern Europe especially throughout the
  • 21:31 - 21:34
    generations when especially around
  • 21:34 - 21:36
holidays like Easter when the ukrainians
  • 21:36 - 21:38
and this would go to church and get
  • 21:38 - 21:39
drunk and blah blah blah and then they
  • 21:39 - 21:41
would go and let's go burn the Jews and
  • 21:41 - 21:43
kill the Jews you know that was like the
  • 21:43 - 21:46
sport and uh they were never the
  • 21:46 - 21:47
ukrainians and the poles and these
  • 21:47 - 21:50
people they were it was violent but it
  • 21:50 - 21:52
was always short-lived I guess when they
  • 21:52 - 21:56
you know when The Hangover left them um
  • 21:56 - 21:58
they were not they were not they were
  • 21:58 - 22:00
    not systematic
  • 22:00 - 22:02
    fanatic ideologues like the Germans
  • 22:02 - 22:04
right the Germans it was like when the
  • 22:04 - 22:05
    Germans do
  • 22:05 - 22:07
something uh and that's what the H you
  • 22:07 - 22:09
know the Nazi Holocaust became but there
  • 22:09 - 22:11
was just these waves of pograms all the
  • 22:11 - 22:13
time and so the people were fleeing that
  • 22:13 - 22:15
her ancestors came here and we're
  • 22:15 - 22:17
pioneers of the of the kib the kibuts
  • 22:17 - 22:19
and this that she's fifth generation on
  • 22:19 - 22:21
her mother's side which is very old for
  • 22:21 - 22:24
for an Israeli but I think of her and I
  • 22:24 - 22:26
think of me I you know I'm I'm this
  • 22:26 - 22:29
close to having been not been here
  • 22:29 - 22:33
because my ancestors you know another
  • 22:33 - 22:34
stream of them they were in Europe and
  • 22:34 - 22:37
they're gone they burned in the the
  • 22:37 - 22:39
ovens of awit or something we don't know
  • 22:39 - 22:41
all right but I was this close I mean
  • 22:41 - 22:43
all of us in this country and those who
  • 22:43 - 22:46
fled from you know 1948 and 49 from the
  • 22:46 - 22:49
war and and the the Islamic Jihad and
  • 22:49 - 22:51
    all this stuff we're we're a we are a
  • 22:51 - 22:55
Remnant okay and this you got to think
  • 22:55 - 22:56
when you're reading this that it's not
  • 22:56 - 22:58
just talking about the spiritual side of
  • 22:58 - 23:00
it that there's not just going to be a
  • 23:00 - 23:02
small group of of Jewish Believers
  • 23:02 - 23:05
    that's that's true but he's saying this
  • 23:05 - 23:06
when when he says the remnant is going
  • 23:06 - 23:10
to be saved this is the preparation for
  • 23:10 - 23:12
the climax that we're going to come to
  • 23:12 - 23:15
in Romans 11:25 and 26 when he says all
  • 23:15 - 23:19
Israel will be saved not just the
  • 23:19 - 23:23
remnant the whole nation is going to be
  • 23:23 - 23:25
saved and when most Christians read that
  • 23:25 - 23:28
they think oh sometime in the future if
  • 23:28 - 23:30
if they have a positive view of the the
  • 23:30 - 23:32
God's covenant with Israel they haven't
  • 23:32 - 23:35
gotten a PhD in replacement theology
  • 23:35 - 23:37
which you actually have have to have in
  • 23:37 - 23:39
order to read Israel out of the Bible uh
  • 23:39 - 23:41
like that you have to be very smart and
  • 23:41 - 23:45
very well educated to do that um I'll
  • 23:45 - 23:46
tell you a funny story if we have time
  • 23:46 - 23:50
about that in a little bit uh and when
  • 23:50 - 23:51
he said when he writes all Israel be
  • 23:51 - 23:54
saved he's not just talking about
  • 23:54 - 23:57
    spiritual things he's talking about
  • 23:57 - 23:59
    Deliverance
  • 23:59 - 24:01
salvation there's going to be War
  • 24:01 - 24:02
there's going to be destruction all the
  • 24:02 - 24:04
na Zechariah we all the nations coming
  • 24:04 - 24:08
up against Jerusalem when Yeshua returns
  • 24:08 - 24:12
he's going to save us in every dimension
  • 24:12 - 24:15
of the word every all the promises
  • 24:15 - 24:17
spiritual physic it's all going to come
  • 24:17 - 24:20
    together at this amazing amazing
  • 24:20 - 24:22
    climax
  • 24:22 - 24:25
of salvation of the remnant and of of
  • 24:25 - 24:30
God's people okay so that's um
  • 24:30 - 24:32
that's the the teaching today that's the
  • 24:32 - 24:37
remnant it is about us every one of us
  • 24:37 - 24:41
like Paul saying I am an Israelite I'm
  • 24:41 - 24:44
this I'm whatever but I'm called I have
  • 24:44 - 24:46
the promises of God I have faith I have
  • 24:46 - 24:49
the word of God it depends on me
  • 24:49 - 24:50
Hallelujah I got to get up and do it
  • 24:50 - 24:53
until until I as long as I have breath
  • 24:53 - 24:55
God's got a purpose for me right to
  • 24:55 - 24:57
believe that but not to fall into the
  • 24:57 - 25:00
Elijah complex and think that it's all
  • 25:00 - 25:02
depends it's just me no we're a team
  • 25:02 - 25:03
there's a lot of other people we join
  • 25:03 - 25:06
Unity we prayed a lot about unity all of
  • 25:06 - 25:10
that uh and second that the remnant is
  • 25:10 - 25:13
this principle of how God works in the
  • 25:13 - 25:16
world in every country in every place
  • 25:16 - 25:18
you know if you're if you want to
  • 25:18 - 25:20
support missions in some country you got
  • 25:20 - 25:22
to you find if there's two Believers in
  • 25:22 - 25:24
that country among that people group
  • 25:24 - 25:26
that's where you start you start praying
  • 25:26 - 25:27
for them you start supporting them you
  • 25:27 - 25:29
say okay how are we going to bring the
  • 25:29 - 25:31
gospel to this people through them
  • 25:31 - 25:33
that's how God's going to work right he
  • 25:33 - 25:34
has always worked through that the
  • 25:34 - 25:37
    remnant principle and then third
  • 25:37 - 25:39
    remember that it's as it
  • 25:39 - 25:44
continues this remnant of Israel idea is
  • 25:44 - 25:46
not just an idea it's something that God
  • 25:46 - 25:47
is is is doing throughout history with
  • 25:47 - 25:51
our people we're a people that is a sign
  • 25:51 - 25:54
of God's judgment and God's blessing
  • 25:54 - 25:56
okay and he but he's promised that there
  • 25:56 - 25:58
will always be these survivors he's not
  • 25:58 - 26:00
going to eliminate he's not finished
  • 26:00 - 26:03
with us until right and because of the
  • 26:03 - 26:04
remnant we're going to see this either
  • 26:04 - 26:08
next week or the or the following um he
  • 26:08 - 26:10
when he says in verse 16 Romans in
  • 26:10 - 26:14
chapter 11 he says if the lump is Holy
  • 26:14 - 26:16
then the whole dough is Holy if the root
  • 26:16 - 26:18
is Holy that's the remnant okay if this
  • 26:18 - 26:19
little piece is Holy then the whole
  • 26:19 - 26:22
thing is all right and what that means
  • 26:22 - 26:24
for who we are today and how God's going
  • 26:24 - 26:28
to work and bring this all together in
  • 26:28 - 26:30
an amazing he is bringing it together in
  • 26:30 - 26:32
an amazing way bashem Yeshua I'll tell
  • 26:32 - 26:34
you a funny story I do have a few
  • 26:34 - 26:36
    minutes about this
  • 26:36 - 26:40
uh um sort of replacement last week when
  • 26:40 - 26:44
I was in that country at that conference
  • 26:44 - 26:46
uh meeting different uh people who are
  • 26:46 - 26:49
serving and sharing the gospel um
  • 26:49 - 26:50
    they're from different nations but
  • 26:50 - 26:52
they're working in in Middle East mostly
  • 26:52 - 26:55
in in Muslim countries and uh they
  • 26:55 - 26:59
talked about how with the what they call
  • 26:59 - 27:01
the mbb you all know what that means the
  • 27:01 - 27:04
Muslim background believer as opposed to
  • 27:04 - 27:07
in the Arab in the Arab world like in
  • 27:07 - 27:11
Israel or in Lebanon you have also um a
  • 27:11 - 27:13
a group used to be a lot larger but a
  • 27:13 - 27:15
lot of them have have left but of of
  • 27:15 - 27:18
    traditional Christians Greek Orthodox
  • 27:18 - 27:21
Catholic marinite in uh and Protestant
  • 27:21 - 27:24
much of it is cultural you know we know
  • 27:24 - 27:26
from our our brothers here there a lot
  • 27:26 - 27:27
of the evangelism that they do is also
  • 27:27 - 27:30
to to these sort of cultural Christians
  • 27:30 - 27:33
um but these folks were comparing their
  • 27:33 - 27:37
their experience with both groups when
  • 27:37 - 27:38
    it comes to
  • 27:38 - 27:40
Israel you know because listen when you
  • 27:40 - 27:42
go out in these in these countries and
  • 27:42 - 27:44
you're sharing the gospel or you want to
  • 27:44 - 27:47
share the gospel with a Muslim person
  • 27:47 - 27:49
you know generally the handbook doesn't
  • 27:49 - 27:50
say that you know the first thing you
  • 27:50 - 27:54
should say is Hi you know Yeshua loves
  • 27:54 - 27:57
you he's the son of Abraham Isaac and
  • 27:57 - 27:59
Jacob the god of Israel you know that's
  • 27:59 - 28:01
not how you start in your gospel
  • 28:01 - 28:04
presentation to a muslim okay at least
  • 28:04 - 28:07
that's what the handbooks say right okay
  • 28:07 - 28:09
um and why don't we start in Romans 11
  • 28:09 - 28:10
and God's promises to Israel and how he
  • 28:10 - 28:13
let Jud no you kind of you don't start
  • 28:13 - 28:15
there unfortunately not only do most
  • 28:15 - 28:17
people not start there they never get
  • 28:17 - 28:19
there it's it's something you kind of
  • 28:19 - 28:21
want to just avoid and it's a lot easier
  • 28:21 - 28:23
to preach a very sort of Gentile
  • 28:23 - 28:25
    Christian Christianity replacement
  • 28:25 - 28:28
    theology Jesus you know personal
  • 28:28 - 28:29
    salvation
  • 28:29 - 28:31
but what happens then is then there's
  • 28:31 - 28:33
all this influence from Islam and the
  • 28:33 - 28:34
    culture that becomes very anti
  • 28:34 - 28:36
anti-israel they were telling us what
  • 28:36 - 28:38
we've heard and known for for a long
  • 28:38 - 28:40
time that it's actually among these two
  • 28:40 - 28:44
groups of Arabs or lebanes or whatever
  • 28:44 - 28:46
    that it's the Muslim background
  • 28:46 - 28:49
believers who have a much easier time
  • 28:49 - 28:52
embracing God's promises to Israel and
  • 28:52 - 28:55
they're saying yeah and they say I said
  • 28:55 - 28:57
this I said when you know when a Muslim
  • 28:57 - 29:00
very often comes to Faith uh it's like
  • 29:00 - 29:02
they put a Target on their chest that
  • 29:02 - 29:03
says shoot me I mean their families
  • 29:03 - 29:06
    their their neighborhoods it's very
  • 29:06 - 29:08
dangerous okay so you're a dead man
  • 29:08 - 29:10
already to put another Target on your
  • 29:10 - 29:13
back it says God loves Israel all right
  • 29:13 - 29:15
shoot me again you know they've died to
  • 29:15 - 29:17
that fear right and so they're just
  • 29:17 - 29:18
willing to go all the way with with
  • 29:18 - 29:20
God's truth whatever it is the other
  • 29:20 - 29:22
thing is that they're they're so fresh
  • 29:22 - 29:24
    to the
  • 29:24 - 29:26
    scriptures right and they've been
  • 29:26 - 29:27
reading the Quran all their life and now
  • 29:27 - 29:29
they realize the Quran is full of all
  • 29:29 - 29:31
this weird stuff and lies and twists of
  • 29:31 - 29:32
of the Bible they're so excited about
  • 29:32 - 29:34
the word of God they read Romans 9:111
  • 29:34 - 29:36
it's like wow a man God praise God let's
  • 29:36 - 29:39
pray for Israel they were saying it just
  • 29:39 - 29:42
happens very naturally that but with the
  • 29:42 - 29:44
    with those from the traditional
  • 29:44 - 29:45
    Christian background they've got these
  • 29:45 - 29:47
Century even if they're cultural these
  • 29:47 - 29:49
centuries of all this CH this teaching
  • 29:49 - 29:50
    which is very
  • 29:50 - 29:54
complex I mean to read Romans 11 what we
  • 29:54 - 29:58
just read today I say then has God
  • 29:58 - 30:03
rejected his people uh no I mean to take
  • 30:03 - 30:05
that and have it mean something else you
  • 30:05 - 30:07
    have to be very
  • 30:07 - 30:09
smart very well trained you need at
  • 30:09 - 30:12
least a master's degree in theology
  • 30:12 - 30:16
probably a PhD okay to read Romans 25
  • 30:16 - 30:19
and says all Israel be saved and to make
  • 30:19 - 30:22
that Israel be the church okay you you
  • 30:22 - 30:24
need to be very very well
  • 30:24 - 30:27
educated okay if you're just a normal
  • 30:27 - 30:29
    person like Paul
  • 30:29 - 30:32
who was also well educated but anyway he
  • 30:32 - 30:33
didn't have a master's or PhD from these
  • 30:33 - 30:37
seminaries and uh it's just it it was
  • 30:37 - 30:39
just a good reminder from these from
  • 30:39 - 30:41
these missionaries to see how they're
  • 30:41 - 30:43
experiencing the different groups of of
  • 30:43 - 30:46
    people amen
