User Research for Firefox - Jinghua and Jono on Test Pilot

Become a Test Pilot and help us make Firefox better! As a non-profit organization, we rely upon the support of volunteers to help us understand how people are using the Web, and to test the usefulness of new and existing browser features.

We are from Testpilot team. And we are doing user studies, to understand how people use Firefox ...

and the Internet

through a program called Testpilot.

Testpilot is a user research platform open to everyone to help us with Firefox and the web.

As a test pilot all you need is to do is take a five minute survey, or just one click to submit the automatically collected data.

And so far it is the easiest way to help Firefox open source community to contribute your knowledge

and currently we have over 13,000 people actively participating in our test pallet study's .

Our participation level is over 9,000!

Let's show some studies we have run before.

In this study, We measured which menu items are most often used in Firefox.

We found that when people click on the menus

the most used are : Book marks and copy and paste.

By keyboard shortcuts the most commonly used are open and close tabs.

We also did this study on how many tabs people use at a time.

We found that an average of three, But some people use 547 tabs at the same time.

All the findings and the data are open to the public.

and why we are doing it? Is because we would like to increase the knowledge to the Open Source Community.

Rather than keep everything to ourselves.

Don't worry about your privacy, we are not trying to spy on you.

And there is no personal data collected.

It doesn't record what sites you visit only how Firefox is functioning.

And also you have the full control about your participation .

You can choose if you want to join the program or not. You can also choose if you want to submit your data or not.
