Superman - The Mad Scientist (1941)

  • 0:02 - 0:06
    Superman
  • 0:09 - 0:10
    Up in the sky! Look!
  • 0:10 - 0:11
    It's a bird!
  • 0:11 - 0:12
    It's a plane!
  • 0:12 - 0:17
    It's Superman!
  • 0:57 - 1:03
In the endless reaches of the universe,
there once existed a planet known as Krypton.
  • 1:03 - 1:06
A planet that burned like a green star
    in the distant heavens.
  • 1:06 - 1:10
There, civilization was far advanced and it
brought forth a race of super men,
  • 1:10 - 1:12
    whose mental and physical powers
    where developed
  • 1:12 - 1:15
to the absolute peak of human perfection.
  • 1:15 - 1:19
But, there came a day when giant quakes
    threatened to destroy Krypton forever.
  • 1:19 - 1:22
One of the planet's leading scientists,
    sensing the approach of doom,
  • 1:22 - 1:24
placed his infant son in a small rocket ship
  • 1:24 - 1:29
and sent it hurtling in the direction
of the Earth just as Krypton exploded.
  • 1:33 - 1:36
    The rocket ship sped through
    star studded space,
  • 1:36 - 1:40
landing safely on Earth with its precious
    burden; Krypton's sole survivor.
  • 1:40 - 1:45
A passing motorist found the uninjured child
and took it to an orphanage.
  • 1:45 - 1:47
As the years went by and
    the child grew to maturity,
  • 1:48 - 1:50
    he found himself possessed of
    amazing physical powers.
  • 1:50 - 1:53
    Faster than a speeding bullet.
  • 1:53 - 1:55
    More powerful than a locomotive.
  • 1:56 - 1:58
Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound.
  • 1:58 - 2:04
The infant of Krypton is now
    the Man of Steel, Superman!
  • 2:04 - 2:06
To best be in a position to
    use his amazing powers
  • 2:06 - 2:09
    in the never-ending battle for
    truth and justice,
  • 2:09 - 2:12
    Superman has assumed
    the disguise of Clark Kent,
  • 2:12 - 2:15
    mild-mannered reporter for a
    great metropolitan newspaper.
  • 2:23 - 2:25
Kent, I want to see you.
  • 2:26 - 2:27
    Just received another threatening note.
  • 2:27 - 2:29
    Okay, Mr. White.
  • 2:29 - 2:32
Lois, another note from the mad scientist.
  • 2:32 - 2:34
    Coming in, chief.
  • 2:36 - 2:37
    Now listen to this warning.
  • 2:37 - 2:40
    He plans to strike tonight.
  • 2:40 - 2:42
    Beware you fools!
  • 2:42 - 2:46
    My Electrothamasia-Ray
    strikes tonight at 12.
  • 2:46 - 2:50
    Total destruction will come
to those who laughed at me
  • 2:50 - 2:52
and failed to heed my warnings.
  • 2:52 - 2:55
Beware - I strike at midnight!
  • 2:55 - 2:58
    This nut may prove dangerous.
  • 2:58 - 3:00
Kent, you help Lois follow up her lead.
  • 3:00 - 3:03
She may have an angle on this thing.
  • 3:03 - 3:03
    Yes sir!
  • 3:03 - 3:08
But chief, I'd like the chance
to crack this story on my own.
  • 3:08 - 3:10
    Well now...
  • 3:10 - 3:11
    Thanks, chief!
  • 3:11 - 3:13
    But Lois..
  • 3:14 - 3:17
    Chief, don't you think that's
    a dangerous mission?
  • 3:39 - 3:46
    [clock ringing]
  • 3:50 - 3:54
    The hour has come.
  • 4:54 - 4:58
    [knock at the door]
  • 5:04 - 5:07
    I'm a reporter for the...
  • 5:07 - 5:11
    [screams]
  • 5:22 - 5:25
    So, you want a story?
  • 5:26 - 5:32
I'll give you the greatest story of
destruction the world has ever known.
  • 5:58 - 6:04
How is that for a story, Miss Lane? [laughs]
  • 6:06 - 6:08
[radio] Flash! True to his threat,
  • 6:08 - 6:11
The mad scientist, whose warnings have held
the city in a grip of terror,
  • 6:11 - 6:15
went on his rampage of destruction
    on the stroke of midnight.
  • 6:15 - 6:17
The deadly impact of his mysterious ray,
  • 6:18 - 6:22
smashed the famous Tower Bridge, hurling
cars and pedestrians into the river below.
  • 6:22 - 6:26
    The police have warned everyone
    to remain in their homes.
  • 6:26 - 6:31
This looks like a job for Superman.
  • 7:53 - 7:57
    It's Superman!
  • 8:33 - 8:38
    I don't believe it! He isn't human!
  • 10:03 - 10:07
    [headline] Daily Planet
    Superman Captures Mad Scientist
    Story by Lois Lane
  • 10:07 - 10:09
    [headline] Superman Vanishes
    Public Still Mystified
    Superman's Identity Still a Mystery
  • 10:09 - 10:12
    Congratulations Lois,
    that was a great scoop.
  • 10:12 - 10:19
    Yes, chief. Thanks to Superman.
