Truth is Simple

  • 0:01 - 0:08
    The realization of the Self
is a very simple thing in itself
  • 0:12 - 0:17
What it is, in itself, is just simple and natural.
  • 0:19 - 0:24
What it is, is just simple and natural
  • 0:26 - 0:28
And I even wondered if there was a time
  • 0:28 - 0:31
when human beings were just like that,
  • 0:31 - 0:38
just in our natural state, but I don't know that.
  • 0:38 - 0:43
I felt, in those days, I want to share this
  • 0:43 - 0:46
because it is so simple, it's so simple.
  • 0:46 - 0:49
    But in my own case,
  • 0:49 - 0:54
it took a little bit of scrubbing as well,
    to arrive at that.
  • 1:03 - 1:10
This is a kind of paradox, in a way,
    because it is so simple,
  • 1:10 - 1:13
but where we are coming from is so complex.
  • 1:13 - 1:17
As I said before, The Truth is simple,
  • 1:17 - 1:21
but the seeker of Truth is complex.
  • 1:21 - 1:25
And he has to get over himself.
  • 1:25 - 1:28
He cannot do anything for Truth.
  • 1:28 - 1:31
We cannot do anything for Truth.
    We cannot help Truth.
  • 1:31 - 1:38
It's total nonsense, arrogance and stupidity
    to even think of that.
  • 1:38 - 1:43
The basis of the entire universe
    is that it emanates
  • 1:43 - 1:47
and plays in the space of Truth.
  • 1:47 - 1:53
So no one can do anything for Truth.
  • 1:53 - 2:00
And the fact is that, we are Truth.
    We are Truth.
  • 2:00 - 2:03
But in order to make a search happen,
  • 2:03 - 2:07
we have to be under the spell of the untrue.
  • 2:07 - 2:14
    Otherwise, there is no search.
Why would there be any search?
  • 2:14 - 2:19
Just like now, we came to be convinced
    that we are our name,
  • 2:19 - 2:25
that we are our culture, that we are our race,
    that we are our gender.
  • 2:25 - 2:36
We believe that, so we don't have to question that.
  • 2:36 - 2:41
We just assume; nobody questions that.
  • 2:41 - 2:45
In the state of the Truth,
    then it is completely natural.
  • 2:45 - 2:48
You don't have to question that any more.
  • 2:48 - 2:50
But while we have the identity
  • 2:50 - 2:54
or the idea that we are persons and people,
  • 2:54 - 2:57
it is a very complex state of consciousness,
  • 2:57 - 3:02
    it's very self-centred,
but self-centred in the psychological sense.
  • 3:02 - 3:07
    Meaning that, it is a kind of neurosis;
    a complexity is there.
  • 3:07 - 3:09
And we are not going to be happy.
  • 3:09 - 3:13
    There is no one who,
not being aware of the pure Self,
  • 3:13 - 3:18
can be in a state of equanimity
    and unbroken happiness.
  • 3:18 - 3:21
    Our lives will be topsy-turvy.
    We will experience that.
  • 3:21 - 3:24
But for one who is aware of the Truth,
  • 3:24 - 3:27
and aware that they are the Truth,
  • 3:27 - 3:33
then the waves of the mind,
the waves of the vital force
  • 3:33 - 3:36
    cannot trouble them at all.
There is no trouble at all,
  • 3:36 - 3:39
because they are not holding onto the mind,
  • 3:39 - 3:42
they are not holding onto any emotional state,
  • 3:42 - 3:45
they are not holding onto the body.
  • 3:45 - 3:48
Just like how they say the Ganga is flowing,
  • 3:48 - 3:50
    but it is also constant.
  • 3:50 - 3:56
The waves are like, maybe, our thoughts.
  • 3:56 - 4:02
    The changefulness that occurs
and arises in the body is like the waves,
  • 4:02 - 4:08
but the Ganga itself, you can say, is untroubled.
  • 4:08 - 4:10
    It is the same thing.
  • 4:10 - 4:18
So we don't need to study for years
    to realize the Self.
  • 4:18 - 4:24
    And yet we do.
We don't need to study for years and years.
  • 4:24 - 4:30
What are we studying? What are we practising?
  • 4:30 - 4:33
    Sometimes, also, we are practising,
  • 4:33 - 4:36
and we still don't know what we're practising for.
  • 4:36 - 4:38
    Sometimes we meditate,
  • 4:38 - 4:41
yet we don't know the aim
    and object of meditation.
  • 4:41 - 4:44
If we are meditating only to meditate,
  • 4:44 - 4:48
to enjoy a portion of time in a state of non-duality,
  • 4:48 - 4:50
    meditation can offer us this.
  • 4:50 - 4:53
But as we have heard people say in satsang,
  • 4:53 - 4:57
    'The minute I step away,
the minute my meditation is over,
  • 4:57 - 5:00
the chaos of life and of the mind comes again'.
  • 5:00 - 5:03
So that cannot be the permanent state.
  • 5:03 - 5:08
    Nothing that we acquire
    will be the permanent state.
  • 5:08 - 5:11
    Only what we discover,
  • 5:11 - 5:15
which is independent of the personal wave,
  • 5:15 - 5:20
    only that is stable by itself;
    nobody can make it stable.
  • 5:20 - 5:26
We can only discover that untouched essence.
  • 5:26 - 5:32
And when 'we' discover 'That', we are That!
  • 5:32 - 5:34
    You cannot discover the Self
  • 5:34 - 5:38
and be a discoverer of the Self as a person.
  • 5:38 - 5:45
And this is why I say that
the self-inquiry is my 'piranha question',
  • 5:45 - 5:52
    because as we are exploring
    and introspecting this question,
  • 5:52 - 5:56
    the questioner and the questioning
    are being swallowed up
  • 5:56 - 5:59
    by the very inquiry itself.
  • 6:01 - 6:04
    [music]
  • 6:04 - 6:11
    'Nothing that you acquire
can be the permanent state ... '
  • 6:13 - 6:20
' ... only what you discover.'
    ~ Mooji ~
