Practices for Children: We Are All Flowers | by Orla O’Sullivan

  • 0:02 - 0:04
    Hi, my name is Orlaith.
  • 0:04 - 0:07
And today we're going to explore the art of flower watering.
  • 0:07 - 0:10
With the help of our book, We Are All Flowers.
  • 0:11 - 0:12
    And it goes like this.
  • 0:15 - 0:16
    We are all flowers.
  • 0:17 - 0:18
    Each and every one.
  • 0:19 - 0:20
    We're freshened by water.
  • 0:21 - 0:25
We reach towards the sun, sometimes we're strong flowers,
  • 0:25 - 0:26
    super confident.
  • 0:27 - 0:30
Like a big dandelion pushing up through cement.
  • 0:31 - 0:33
    And some days we're droopy.
  • 0:34 - 0:37
    A bit tired or unsure.
  • 0:38 - 0:44
A bit worried or lonely or sad or heartworn.
  • 0:45 - 0:52
We have droopy times, so it's just great to know how refreshing each other helps flowers to grow.
  • 0:53 - 1:01
It helps you and your friends and your family and me and your classmates and teammates and community.
  • 1:02 - 1:03
You can change the whole day.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
If you can water one flower.
  • 1:07 - 1:11
You can change the whole world with super watering power.
  • 1:12 - 1:13
So how do we do this?
  • 1:14 - 1:16
    Here's a pathway that's clear.
  • 1:16 - 1:20
Three steps to success in your gardening career.
  • 1:21 - 1:22
    One.
  • 1:22 - 1:23
    Start from your heart.
  • 1:24 - 1:25
It just has to be true.
  • 1:26 - 1:28
    No fake flower watering.
  • 1:29 - 1:30
    It has to be you.
  • 1:31 - 1:32
    Two
  • 1:32 - 1:33
    find someone you love.
  • 1:35 - 1:37
    Bring them into your heart.
  • 1:38 - 1:42
Draw them in nice and close, so they really take part.
  • 1:44 - 1:48
You might notice their eyes or their smile or their voice
  • 1:48 - 1:52
or their hands or their laugh or their toes.
  • 1:53 - 1:54
    It's your choice.
  • 1:55 - 1:58
What do you feel with this person so dear?
  • 1:59 - 2:03
What things do you sense when this person is near?
  • 2:04 - 2:09
Snuggled or cared for, loved or heart warmed,
  • 2:09 - 2:15
included or just safe, your worries transformed.
  • 2:16 - 2:17
    Three.
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    Now get super specific.
  • 2:20 - 2:25
What on earth do they do that you're happy, they're them and they're so happy, you're you.
  • 2:26 - 2:31
It can be big or little, something loving or wise
  • 2:31 - 2:36
or patient or generous or a lovely surprise.
  • 2:37 - 2:43
It could be them not shouting when you were so cross
  • 2:43 - 2:48
or making ice cream with the best chocolate sauce,
  • 2:48 - 2:52
may be holding you close when you were so scared.
  • 2:54 - 2:55
    Or listening deeply.
  • 2:56 - 2:57
    So you felt really heard.
  • 2:58 - 3:00
    It can be anything.
  • 3:00 - 3:06
So let your heart explore and find one thing about them that you just adore.
  • 3:07 - 3:10
Don't pick up a bucket and drench them all quick.
  • 3:11 - 3:14
A gentle cascade is what will do the trick.
  • 3:14 - 3:17
    With precision and care.
  • 3:18 - 3:24
You can refresh with ease and their hearts will blossom with your expertise.
  • 3:26 - 3:30
When we water flowers, we're presenting a prize
  • 3:30 - 3:34
and people can glimpse how things look through our eyes.
  • 3:35 - 3:36
    We all see things differently.
  • 3:37 - 3:38
    Things mean different things.
  • 3:39 - 3:42
Some of us love seesaws and some of us swings.
  • 3:42 - 3:44
    Some love bedtime songs.
  • 3:45 - 3:48
They help us rest deep and some yank up the covers.
  • 3:48 - 3:50
    "I'm trying to sleep."
  • 3:51 - 3:54
Flower watering helps us to be known and seen
  • 3:54 - 3:58
so we know how things feel when they mean what they mean.
  • 3:59 - 4:03
With practice, flower watering is an everyday joy.
  • 4:04 - 4:07
It's indubitably a great skill to employ.
  • 4:08 - 4:11
It helps everyone know that you know that they're there
  • 4:11 - 4:15
and you know that they're kind and you know that they care.
  • 4:16 - 4:24
So go forth wise gardeners and re-energise all the beautiful flowers so dear to your eyes.
  • 4:25 - 4:29
All the ways that they care for you, you recognize.
  • 4:30 - 4:31
    But wait.
  • 4:31 - 4:34
There's a fourth step that's crucial to know.
  • 4:34 - 4:40
For sometimes you're droopy, no energy to grow.
  • 4:42 - 4:47
There are goggles of gloominess we sometimes wear
  • 4:47 - 4:51
and we feel a bit rubbish and it feels hard to care.
  • 4:52 - 5:00
This is just when we muster our kindness and strength to help us retune to a better wavelength.
  • 5:01 - 5:05
We remember small things that we did or we said.
  • 5:07 - 5:10
We took care of our sleepy selves by going to bed.
  • 5:12 - 5:14
We brushed teeth and we tidied.
  • 5:15 - 5:16
    We offered to share.
  • 5:16 - 5:19
We snuggled our pet so that they know we care.
  • 5:20 - 5:24
We rested and played and we learned and explored.
  • 5:24 - 5:25
    We dreamed.
  • 5:26 - 5:27
And we tried to be patient.
  • 5:27 - 5:34
When bored, we gave someone a hug or our words brought a smile.
  • 5:34 - 5:41
We took care of our anger, which was so worthwhile coming back to our body,
  • 5:41 - 5:48
feeling safe and at home, breathing deep in our belly, at peace in the zone.
  • 5:50 - 5:53
There were times we helped loads,
  • 5:53 - 5:55
    with our kind open heart.
  • 5:56 - 5:57
    Drop by drop.
  • 5:58 - 5:59
    We remember.
  • 6:00 - 6:07
And you'll find once you start that a giant cascade of heart pouring pour zags.
  • 6:07 - 6:15
And you more than you need now, without attach, filling up watering cans and a wide reservoir,
  • 6:15 - 6:19
reminding you, you're amazing, just as you are.
  • 6:20 - 6:22
So don't let it push past.
  • 6:22 - 6:28
Each drop of memory brings super strength and anti-droopy energy
  • 6:28 - 6:32
and you'll know you are a wonder.
  • 6:32 - 6:34
Aware of all that you do.
  • 6:35 - 6:40
You will remember your goodness and your said this is true.
  • 6:42 - 6:46
The importantest flower to water is you.
  • 6:48 - 6:49
    The end.
  • 6:50 - 6:54
So I hope you enjoyed this practice of flower watering.
  • 6:55 - 6:59
May you take really good care of your precious heart every day.
  • 6:59 - 7:01
May you take really good care of each other.
  • 7:01 - 7:03
Take really good care of our beautiful planet.
  • 7:04 - 7:05
    Okay.
  • 7:05 - 7:06
    Bye bye.
