Hey you know brainstorming, right?
-
There is a way to get even better, new and different ideas called SCAMPER – a checklist creativity technique.
-
Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify/Maximize/Minify, Put to other uses, Eliminate, Reverse/Rearrange
-
And
this is how it works.
-
Let’s take, Smarties and see how many different products of smarties we can come up with using SCAMPER.
-
S is for substitute. If we use substitute something in a smartie for something else, what might we get?
-
Fruity Smarties
-
Yep! Out goes the chocolate and in comes the fruit.
-
Noooo! Not the chocolate.
-
What else?
-
Substitute the shell and get Smarties Gummies.
-
C is for Combine.
-
With ice cream? Smarties Potz ice cream.
-
With cake? Smarties party cake mix.
-
A is for adapt.
-
Wooo! What does that mean?
-
Adapt other ideas. Adapt other objects. Copy and add to. Adapt from the past.
-
That would be a chick then. Smarties in a chick.
-
M is for Modify/Maximize/Minify. Mini Smarties or giant ones.
-
P is for put to other uses. Smarties pumpkin, eggs, a chicken house?
-
E is for eliminate. What if we took something away from Smarties? The color?
-
And finally R is for reverse/rearrange. Shell on the inside, chocolate on the outside.
-
So. Try SCAMPER.
