Sfântul Artemie: marele voievod - părintele Pimen Vlad

  • 0:01 - 0:02
    He is...
  • 0:04 - 0:06
    the protector of the police,
  • 0:06 - 0:08
you should know, the police in Greece
  • 0:08 - 0:12
    have Holy Great Martyr Artemius
    as their protector.
  • 0:12 - 0:18
    An Athonite Cell
    Joys from the Holy Mountain
  • 0:21 - 0:23
Christ is Risen my dear ones!
  • 0:23 - 0:25
We are seeing each other again,
  • 0:25 - 0:27
    to continue...
  • 0:29 - 0:31
with the life of St. Artemius.
  • 0:31 - 0:34
I have spoken for so long
  • 0:34 - 0:38
about the Cell of St. Artemius,
  • 0:38 - 0:42
and it is time for me to tell you a few
    things about St. Artemius.
  • 0:42 - 0:44
    Who was St. Artemius?
  • 0:46 - 0:49
Where did he live? How did he suffer?
  • 0:50 - 0:52
And I will try to tell you,
    in a few words,
  • 0:52 - 0:58
I grabbed a book to glance at
    it a little bit.
  • 0:58 - 1:04
The sun is very strong here, and I tried
to sit with my back towards it
  • 1:04 - 1:05
but it is still very strong.
  • 1:05 - 1:09
Look, I have a small icon of St. Artemius
    here,
  • 1:09 - 1:10
    so that you can see.
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    The Holy Martyr Artemius.
  • 1:13 - 1:16
    Actually, Holy Great Martyr Artemius.
  • 1:16 - 1:18
    So in a few words...
  • 1:19 - 1:25
St. Artemius was the duke of Egypt.
  • 1:25 - 1:27
    Meaning the voivode of Egypt,
  • 1:27 - 1:30
    especially of Alexandria.
  • 1:30 - 1:36
So he was the leader of the city
    of Alexandria.
  • 1:36 - 1:39
    But before getting there,
  • 1:39 - 1:44
he was born in Egypt but he was a
    soldier
  • 1:44 - 1:48
during the time of Emperor Constantine
    the Great,
  • 1:48 - 1:53
    a brave and faithful soldier.
  • 1:53 - 2:00
And actually, when St. Constantine the
Great had to go to war against Maxentius,
  • 2:02 - 2:07
and prayed to God, "Lord give me a sign,
    how can I defeat him,
  • 2:07 - 2:10
because he has twice as many
    men as I?"
  • 2:10 - 2:15
And then he saw the Holy Cross in the
form of stars in the sky,
  • 2:17 - 2:20
and it was written, with letters
    made of stars,
  • 2:20 - 2:23
"In this sign you shall conquer."
  • 2:23 - 2:26
"In this sign you shall conquer."
  • 2:26 - 2:29
And then St. Constantine the Great
    commanded that the Holy Cross
  • 2:29 - 2:33
be put on swords, on the bridle of
    the horses,
  • 2:33 - 2:35
    on everything, on their weapons,
  • 2:35 - 2:38
on their bodies...that is on their
    clothes,
  • 2:38 - 2:42
to mark themselves with the sign
    of the Holy Cross.
  • 2:42 - 2:45
    Because they realized the
    significance of the Holy Cross,
  • 2:45 - 2:47
if it appeared in the sky.
  • 2:47 - 2:50
And St. Artemius was close to the
    emperor,
  • 2:50 - 2:56
he saw the sign of the cross
and was strengthened in faith and so on.
  • 2:56 - 3:02
    After going through many wars,
  • 3:02 - 3:05
in the meantime, St. Constantine the
    Great died,
  • 3:05 - 3:08
because the times were such, in
    the olden days,
  • 3:08 - 3:11
    that there were many intrigues
    in the Roman Empire;
  • 3:11 - 3:13
    they would murder each other,
  • 3:13 - 3:18
he was killed by those who
    would be his stepbrothers.
  • 3:18 - 3:21
    Something like that...he was poisoned.
  • 3:21 - 3:23
And others took over the empire,
  • 3:23 - 3:24
and in the meantime, at first,
  • 3:24 - 3:29
the sons of St. Constantine the Great
    [were in charge].
  • 3:29 - 3:38
St. Artemius was a soldier of Constantius,
the son of St. Constantine the Great.
  • 3:38 - 3:43
And because he was part of the older
    soldiers and trusting him,
  • 3:43 - 3:48
when Constantius found out that somewhere
    in Achaia, buried there,
  • 3:48 - 3:54
are the relics of Holy Apostle Andrew and
the relics of Holy Apostle Luke,
  • 3:54 - 3:58
the emperor called Artemius, as he
    was then,
  • 3:58 - 4:00
    trusting him, and told him,
  • 4:00 - 4:04
"Look Artemius, go, take enough people
    with you,
  • 4:04 - 4:07
and bring me the relics of these
    two saints."
  • 4:07 - 4:11
And St. Artemius went, he searched
    for them,
  • 4:11 - 4:17
he dug them up with honor, and brought
them to the emperor, to Constantinople.
  • 4:17 - 4:22
And the emperor, knowing and trusting
    him,
  • 4:22 - 4:28
made him duke, meaning voivode of
Egypt, of the city of Alexandria.
  • 4:28 - 4:30
He entrusted everything to him there.
  • 4:30 - 4:36
St. Artemius went to Alexandria, and
    through his life,
  • 4:36 - 4:40
    he Christianized many more
    than were Christian there.
  • 4:40 - 4:43
Because there were many Christians, but
    he helped too,
  • 4:43 - 4:46
and almost the whole city became
    Christian.
  • 4:47 - 4:49
Meanwhile, as the kingdom kept changing,
  • 4:49 - 4:52
with the battles for the throne that
    happened at that time,
  • 4:52 - 4:55
    others came and
were killed one by one -
  • 4:55 - 5:00
and then a sort of nephew
  • 5:00 - 5:05
of the emperor Constantine the Great,
    got on the throne:
  • 5:05 - 5:06
    Julian the Apostate.
  • 5:06 - 5:08
But how did he get on the throne?
  • 5:08 - 5:13
    Because he wasn't the successor,
    there had been others,
  • 5:13 - 5:20
at one point Gallus was emperor, then
    there was another - Constans,
  • 5:20 - 5:22
    who were Christian, all.
  • 5:22 - 5:26
Julian the Apostate, at first also
showed himself to be a Christian,
  • 5:26 - 5:27
so that he could reach the throne.
  • 5:27 - 5:32
Then, after reaching the throne, he showed
his true colors, as it is said,
  • 5:32 - 5:35
after he saw himself in power.
  • 5:35 - 5:38
He began to sacrifice to idols!
  • 5:38 - 5:42
But even before that, he used to go to
    sorcerers and pay them money
  • 5:42 - 5:44
to help him reach the throne.
  • 5:44 - 5:48
So he would call on the
    help of the devils!
  • 5:48 - 5:51
Because many times, many - in order to
get into a position or something,
  • 5:51 - 5:55
    they turn to sorcerers and
    things of the devil.
  • 5:55 - 5:58
And then they are subject to the devil.
  • 5:58 - 6:02
Because if they gave them the right,
  • 6:02 - 6:05
    since they make a promise
when they submit to the devil,
  • 6:05 - 6:07
after that they must serve the devil.
  • 6:07 - 6:10
Then they reach their positions and
after that they do what they do!
  • 6:10 - 6:12
Julian the Apostate did the same.
  • 6:12 - 6:14
    He got on the throne.
  • 6:14 - 6:15
    He showed his true colors.
  • 6:15 - 6:19
And he began to persecute Christians.
  • 6:19 - 6:21
    He would murder them, kill them;
  • 6:21 - 6:24
because of this, we read in the
life of Saint Basil the Great,
  • 6:24 - 6:29
that Julian the Apostate came and began
    to threaten him.
  • 6:29 - 6:34
And Saint Basil knew him - he knew him
from Athens since he studied there -
  • 6:34 - 6:38
    Saint Basil, Saint Gregory,
    Saint John Chrysostom,
  • 6:38 - 6:42
they knew each other from there and
[St. Basil] knew he was an immoral man.
  • 6:42 - 6:46
Julian didn't have any law, he studied
with them, but he was the type of man...
  • 6:46 - 6:52
he was only interested in status,
the debauched life and all that.
  • 6:52 - 6:54
    [St. Basil] rebuked the emperor,
  • 6:54 - 6:57
"Are you not ashamed, how can you
behave like this and kill Christians?"
  • 6:57 - 6:59
And then the emperor threatened him,
  • 6:59 - 7:02
"I will kill you! I will take away
    your wealth!"
  • 7:02 - 7:04
"My wealth? I only have the clothes
    on my back."
  • 7:04 - 7:05
    "I will kill you!"
  • 7:05 - 7:08
"Then you will send me to Christ sooner!"
  • 7:08 - 7:10
And then the emperor went to war,
  • 7:10 - 7:12
    and said,
  • 7:12 - 7:18
"When I get back, I will destroy all the
churches, and I will kill you."
  • 7:18 - 7:21
He said this to St. Basil.
  • 7:21 - 7:22
    And he left.
  • 7:22 - 7:23
    St. Basil said,
  • 7:23 - 7:25
    "IF you will return!"
  • 7:25 - 7:29
And he went away, to wars and so on.
  • 7:29 - 7:32
    Returning to St. Artemius.
  • 7:32 - 7:34
St. Artemius, being duke of Egypt,
  • 7:34 - 7:42
and Julian the Apostate going to
war in Antioch, against the Persians,
  • 7:42 - 7:48
he announced to all the voivodes of
the cities, from somewhere in Antioch,
  • 7:48 - 7:51
and of course this included Artemius from
    the city of Alexandria,
  • 7:51 - 7:53
to bring their soldiers and come,
  • 7:53 - 7:58
as he needed help against the Persians,
    who were many.
  • 7:58 - 7:59
    St. Artemius came.
  • 7:59 - 8:02
    And what was Julian the
    Apostate doing in Antioch?
  • 8:02 - 8:09
He had found two Christians, Eugene
    and Mardarius,
  • 8:09 - 8:10
    and he was torturing them.
  • 8:10 - 8:15
He made them walk after him wearing
iron shoes with nails on the soles,
  • 8:15 - 8:17
and all kinds of other tortures.
  • 8:17 - 8:20
He was torturing them there in front
    of everyone.
  • 8:20 - 8:24
When St. Artemius arrived and witnessed
this, he stood up and said,
  • 8:24 - 8:30
"Emperor, how do you dare to rise up
    against Christ?
  • 8:30 - 8:34
How do you dare to torture the
    servants of Christ?
  • 8:36 - 8:42
God has allowed you to become emperor,
    to try us,
  • 8:43 - 8:47
    to try his faithful soldiers,
  • 8:47 - 8:53
but the punishment of God will be upon
you soon for what you are doing."
  • 8:53 - 8:56
And the emperor got angry and asked,
    "Who is this?"
  • 8:56 - 8:57
"He is Artemius, duke of Egypt."
  • 8:57 - 9:02
"Take away his nobility, take everything
    away, his sash, his clothes...
  • 9:02 - 9:03
    and bring him here!"
  • 9:03 - 9:07
They laid him down, and in the past
what would they use for punishment?
  • 9:07 - 9:09
    They would use ox sinews.
  • 9:09 - 9:11
They would take out the dry sinews
    from an ox
  • 9:11 - 9:13
and they would use them to beat a person.
  • 9:13 - 9:14
    It was the greatest pain.
  • 9:14 - 9:17
It would be like using iron rods now,
    almost like that.
  • 9:17 - 9:20
And they beat him using those, on his
    back, on his belly,
  • 9:20 - 9:22
until his skin was completely cut up,
  • 9:22 - 9:25
until they almost left him unconscious.
  • 9:25 - 9:29
But St. Artemius did not let out
    a single moan.
  • 9:29 - 9:31
He was quiet and bore it
    all with patience.
  • 9:31 - 9:33
Then they put him in prison.
  • 9:33 - 9:35
The next day they took him out again.
  • 9:35 - 9:39
And the emperor began accusing him
    of this and that;
  • 9:39 - 9:45
St. Artemius testified back until the
emperor did not know what else to say.
  • 9:45 - 9:51
So then the emperor, very inflamed,
    again tortured him,
  • 9:51 - 9:54
using some sort of spears reddened in the
    fire,
  • 9:54 - 9:56
to spear him and beat him with
    those.
  • 9:56 - 10:01
He was destroyed, there was nothing
    whole left of him.
  • 10:01 - 10:03
And then he was placed in prison again.
  • 10:03 - 10:07
    The emperor went somewhere else,
to Daphne, there was a place,
  • 10:07 - 10:18
where there was a large temple of Apollo,
    and the goddess Aphrodite.
  • 10:18 - 10:21
And he went there to bring sacrifices,
  • 10:21 - 10:25
so that the gods would tell him whether
    he would defeat the Persians.
  • 10:25 - 10:26
And he went and brought sacrifices...
  • 10:26 - 10:31
usually the devils would answer through
    their idolatrous priests,
  • 10:31 - 10:34
whether he would win or loose...
  • 10:34 - 10:37
Now there was nothing. The devils
    said nothing.
  • 10:37 - 10:39
And then he asked the idolatrous
    priests,
  • 10:39 - 10:41
    "Why aren't they answering?"
  • 10:41 - 10:44
And they said, "Since the relics of
St. Babylas came to this city,
  • 10:44 - 10:47
all of our gods have been silent."
  • 10:47 - 10:49
Meaning the devils had no more power.
  • 10:49 - 10:55
A saint had arrived, a martyr - his
relics - and the devils had left the city.
  • 10:55 - 10:58
The emperor was enraged and commanded:
    "Remove these relics from here,
  • 10:58 - 11:01
because our gods are not answering
    us."
  • 11:01 - 11:05
    And Christians took them away
    from that place then.
  • 11:05 - 11:09
And the emperor, after giving sacrifices
    and left,
  • 11:09 - 11:13
fire came from above and burned
    the idolatrous temple.
  • 11:13 - 11:17
    And then emperor, enraged, returned.
  • 11:17 - 11:20
He ordered that St. Artemius be brought
    out of prison.
  • 11:20 - 11:23
But in the meantime, what had happened
    in the cell?
  • 11:23 - 11:25
In the state that he was in from
    tortures,
  • 11:25 - 11:28
    Christ came down and said,
  • 11:28 - 11:37
    "Rejoice fighter Artemius! Take courage
for I am with you. Do not fear,
  • 11:37 - 11:41
since you have confessed Me before the
    people,
  • 11:41 - 11:46
so shall I confess you before
    My Father.
  • 11:46 - 11:49
You shall be with Me in My Kingdom."
  • 11:49 - 11:50
    Did you hear that?
  • 11:50 - 11:55
If we confess before people, or the
    emperor as it was,
  • 11:55 - 12:01
that Christ is the true God, and we do
    not renounce our faith,
  • 12:01 - 12:07
Christ will also confess for us before
    God the Father,
  • 12:07 - 12:10
"Yes, look, he sacrificed himself for Us,
    he confessed,
  • 12:10 - 12:13
he was not ashamed of the Christian
    faith."
  • 12:13 - 12:16
And we are received in the Heavenly
    Kingdom.
  • 12:16 - 12:20
Yes, dear ones. Let us never be ashamed.
  • 12:20 - 12:23
No matter what, no matter what happens.
  • 12:23 - 12:28
Nobody can defeat us, ever, if we have
    Christ with us.
  • 12:28 - 12:31
    Who is bigger than God?
  • 12:31 - 12:33
And we have the Mother of God...
  • 12:33 - 12:42
And when Christ appeared, He healed
    Artemius and ascended to heaven.
  • 12:42 - 12:46
And when the emperor returned, he saw
    Artemius luminous, bright,
  • 12:46 - 12:47
and with no wound on him.
  • 12:47 - 12:48
    He could not believe it,
  • 12:48 - 12:52
he was looking at him knowing that he
    had been butchered.
  • 12:52 - 12:53
    The emperor said,
  • 12:53 - 12:56
"I see that our gods have taken pity
    on you!"
  • 12:56 - 12:58
    Artemius started laughing and said,
  • 12:58 - 13:02
"No, not you gods, but my Christ who
    I serve."
  • 13:02 - 13:03
    And the emperor said,
  • 13:03 - 13:06
"Well I have seen that your Christians
    have burned down the temple."
  • 13:06 - 13:11
"No, not my Christians, God sent fire from
    heaven, and the temple burned,
  • 13:11 - 13:14
so that you may become wise and
see that He is above all."
  • 13:14 - 13:16
"Are you laughing at me too, Artemius?
  • 13:16 - 13:18
    I'll show you..."
  • 13:18 - 13:21
The emperor was fuming, he could see
that he could not defeat St. Artemius,
  • 13:21 - 13:24
that his devils had stopped talking,
  • 13:24 - 13:27
that the temple had burned as fire
    from heaven descended.
  • 13:27 - 13:34
He was so enraged that he could not
    accept that he was defeated.
  • 13:34 - 13:37
And of course, they brought out
    St. Artemius and he ordered
  • 13:37 - 13:41
that a big boulder be brought and
    cut in half,
  • 13:41 - 13:45
to lift up the top part, place
    St. Artemius on the bottom
  • 13:45 - 13:47
and then drop the top part
    on St. Artemius.
  • 13:47 - 13:53
So imagine, a ton of rock on the bottom,
and a ton on top, being placed on him.
  • 13:53 - 13:55
    And he was completely crushed.
  • 13:55 - 14:01
He was like a plank of wood, his bones,
    everything.
  • 14:03 - 14:06
And think about it, the saint was talking
    and rebuking the emperor,
  • 14:06 - 14:08
the emperor could not believe it.
  • 14:08 - 14:10
Then the emperor rose and left.
  • 14:10 - 14:13
He was sure that now he would not
    make it out alive
  • 14:13 - 14:16
and left him there until the morning.
  • 14:16 - 14:18
The next day when the emperor came,
  • 14:18 - 14:20
he said, "Lift up the rock!"
  • 14:20 - 14:21
And when they lifted the rock,
  • 14:21 - 14:25
and think about it, St. Artemius was like
a plank of wood, completely crushed,
  • 14:25 - 14:27
there was nothing left of him on the
    inside,
  • 14:27 - 14:28
    his bones were crushed,
  • 14:28 - 14:31
he got up on his feet, as he was,
  • 14:31 - 14:33
and everyone was afraid when they saw him,
  • 14:33 - 14:35
and he began to rebuke the emperor.
  • 14:35 - 14:37
    He could speak clearly.
  • 14:37 - 14:40
And he said, "Emperor, your end is near!
  • 14:41 - 14:44
And you will receive payment for
    everything you have done,
  • 14:44 - 14:47
for all your persecution of Christians."
  • 14:47 - 14:50
"No, because I will go and have victory
    over the Persians!"
  • 14:50 - 14:53
"No, that is where you will find
    your death." He told him.
  • 14:53 - 14:56
The emperor, seething with anger, and
not knowing what else to do, said,
  • 14:56 - 14:58
    "Cut off his head!"
  • 14:58 - 15:01
He saw that he would not die so he
    cut off his head.
  • 15:01 - 15:03
St. Artemius went to Christ in this way.
  • 15:03 - 15:06
    A Christian lady who had
    influence and money,
  • 15:06 - 15:09
    intervened through acquaintances and
    she paid money
  • 15:09 - 15:12
and managed to take the relics
    of St. Artemius
  • 15:12 - 15:15
and put them in a place of honor.
  • 15:15 - 15:18
    The emperor of course...
  • 15:19 - 15:22
    went to Persia.
  • 15:22 - 15:24
    And then an old Persian,
  • 15:25 - 15:28
he was a wise man of the Persians,
  • 15:28 - 15:30
    came before the emperor,
    and said,
  • 15:30 - 15:38
    "Emperor, why suffer so much?
I will help you to conquer Persia easily.
  • 15:38 - 15:43
I will take you on the shortest route
    without losing soldiers or anything."
  • 15:43 - 15:45
    The emperor, pleased, trusted him.
  • 15:45 - 15:49
That Persian took him and his whole army,
    with him as a guide,
  • 15:49 - 15:53
    through all the desolate
    places,
  • 15:53 - 15:57
where there was no water, nothing.
  • 15:58 - 16:00
There were all sorts of damaging winds,
  • 16:00 - 16:07
and he guided the army of emperor Julian
    through all those areas,
  • 16:07 - 16:09
until half of his army died.
  • 16:11 - 16:15
And then the Persian started laughing
    and said,
  • 16:15 - 16:18
"I brought you this way on purpose.
  • 16:19 - 16:26
I prefer to die and have my nation free,
and not be stepped on by you.
  • 16:26 - 16:30
I have brought you to this wasteland
    which nobody can escape from."
  • 16:30 - 16:34
When the emperor and the soldiers heard
that he had made fools out of them,
  • 16:34 - 16:36
and him saying, "I prefer death 10 times
    over
  • 16:36 - 16:39
than to have my country stepped on
    by enemies,
  • 16:39 - 16:44
than to see our women and children taken
as slaves and raped..." and so on.
  • 16:44 - 16:46
You can imagine when the emperor
    heard...
  • 16:46 - 16:50
    He had lost soldiers,
    they were all faint...
  • 16:50 - 16:51
He cut him up into pieces.
  • 16:51 - 16:53
    [The Persian] sacrificed himself for
    his country.
  • 16:53 - 16:58
You see? They were pagans, but see
    how they loved their country.
  • 16:58 - 17:00
    They would not sell it.
  • 17:00 - 17:04
They were willing to die to protect
    the country.
  • 17:04 - 17:08
And of course, being in that situation,
  • 17:08 - 17:11
and then clashing with the soldiers
    of that place,
  • 17:11 - 17:14
they were chased, they were starved,
there was a few of them,
  • 17:14 - 17:17
and the emperor, what did he die of?
  • 17:18 - 17:21
    The prophecy of St. Artemius
    was fulfilled.
  • 17:21 - 17:25
And St. Basil the Great, after the emperor
    left, started praying.
  • 17:25 - 17:29
In prayer, he said, "Lord, do not allow
the emperor to come back alive,
  • 17:29 - 17:34
that he may not do what he said, which
    is to destroy Your Church!"
  • 17:34 - 17:44
Then he saw St. Mercurius, how he
disappeared from the wall, from the icon,
  • 17:44 - 17:48
he had his spear, and after some time he
    returned to the icon,
  • 17:48 - 17:50
    with a bloody spear.
  • 17:50 - 17:53
And then [St. Basil] realized that Julian
    died then.
  • 17:53 - 17:54
    So what happened?
  • 17:54 - 17:58
Being in the battles there, Julian
    the Apostate,
  • 17:58 - 18:00
    he was eventually defeated,
  • 18:00 - 18:02
and he ran away and hid.
  • 18:02 - 18:06
But eventually the soldiers pursued him
and wounded him with a spear.
  • 18:06 - 18:07
    But whose spear was it?
  • 18:07 - 18:09
It was the spear of St. Artemius,
  • 18:09 - 18:15
but he did not realize that, he thought
    those soldiers wounded him.
  • 18:15 - 18:17
And in those torments at the end,
  • 18:17 - 18:19
when he saw his blood flowing,
  • 18:19 - 18:23
because he was stabbed and was
    completely wounded,
  • 18:23 - 18:27
he took blood in his hand, and with
hatred - not even then did he repent -
  • 18:27 - 18:30
he threw it up and said, "You have
    conquered Galilean!"
  • 18:30 - 18:34
Meaning, he said it to Christ,
He was called Christ the Galilean,
  • 18:34 - 18:35
    "You conquered!"
  • 18:35 - 18:39
That is, even then he was capable of
    fighting with Christ.
  • 18:39 - 18:42
And he had a death...like he deserved as
    it is said.
  • 18:42 - 18:46
After all the evil he did, God allowed it
    in this way.
  • 18:47 - 18:47
    Yes...
  • 18:48 - 18:51
And St. Artemius, if we look at both,
  • 18:51 - 18:55
St. Artemius went to Christ to reign, and
    the other one,
  • 18:55 - 19:02
    Julian the Apostate, the persecutor
    and so on,
  • 19:02 - 19:05
    went to torments.
  • 19:05 - 19:10
    Think about it...the consequences of
    each life.
  • 19:10 - 19:11
    It is the same now.
  • 19:11 - 19:15
    We have different situations
    in this world,
  • 19:15 - 19:18
each one goes on according to his works,
    let that be clear.
  • 19:18 - 19:21
We see leaders with different interests,
  • 19:21 - 19:24
and now, even in our country, they are
    ready for war.
  • 19:24 - 19:27
Leaders want to bring the country
    into war.
  • 19:28 - 19:29
    Why?
  • 19:29 - 19:31
    Because of interests.
  • 19:31 - 19:34
    Is that what we need?
  • 19:34 - 19:36
Do not be afraid my dear ones,
  • 19:36 - 19:39
    pray to St. Artemius,
  • 19:39 - 19:46
because he loved his faith, he loved his
    country and everything,
  • 19:46 - 19:48
that is, he remained next to Christ,
  • 19:48 - 19:53
he did not take anything into account
    for Christ, for the faith,
  • 19:53 - 19:55
and St. Artemius can help us.
  • 19:55 - 19:56
    And there is another thing,
  • 19:56 - 20:01
    St. Artemius is a helper,
  • 20:01 - 20:05
a healer of everything that has to do with
    this interior part,
  • 20:05 - 20:08
    diseases of the intestines,
    of the kidneys,
  • 20:08 - 20:10
because he too was completely destroyed
  • 20:10 - 20:14
and received the grace from God to heal
    the prostrate, intestines...
  • 20:14 - 20:18
everything that has to do with the
    interior of the person,
  • 20:18 - 20:20
    he helps a lot.
  • 20:20 - 20:23
And here in Greece, he is the protector
of the police. You should know,
  • 20:23 - 20:27
that the police in Greece have Holy
    Great Martyr Artemius as protector
  • 20:27 - 20:29
because he was "Grand Duke" (mega dux).
  • 20:29 - 20:34
Meaning the minister of interior of
    St. Constantine the Great.
  • 20:34 - 20:39
So he is a great saint, and honored
    here in Greece,
  • 20:39 - 20:42
and he helps a lot, you should know.
  • 20:42 - 20:45
That is what I wanted to tell you about
    St. Artemius.
  • 20:45 - 20:48
    Actually at Konstamonitou Monastery,
  • 20:48 - 20:53
which was built by the son of emperor
    Constantine the Great,
  • 20:53 - 20:57
there is a place where they have a pew,
where they have the icon of St. Artemius,
  • 20:57 - 21:01
where, it is said, St. Artemius
    came to Athos personally,
  • 21:01 - 21:07
to bring a part of the relics of
St. Luke, the Apostle and Evangelist,
  • 21:07 - 21:09
when he had been sent at that time
    by the emperor
  • 21:09 - 21:11
to bring the relics to Constantinople.
  • 21:11 - 21:13
So he brought a part [of the relics]
    to Athos,
  • 21:13 - 21:17
and that place in the monastery is honored
    as being the place
  • 21:17 - 21:20
where St. Artemius stayed when he came
    to bring the holy relics,
  • 21:20 - 21:23
as he was honored at the time,
    having the office he had.
  • 21:23 - 21:27
So St. Artemius has been to the
    Holy Mountain.
  • 21:28 - 21:34
Yes, so pray to him, because he has
a lot of power before God.
  • 21:34 - 21:36
And as I said, he is also the protector of
    the police,
  • 21:36 - 21:40
for those who are in the police,
pray to him as he helps,
  • 21:40 - 21:46
especially in these times with all
    the craziness of the world,
  • 21:46 - 21:48
and one more thing before I end...
  • 21:48 - 21:49
    Let's not want war,
  • 21:49 - 21:50
let's not get into the war.
  • 21:50 - 21:52
    It is not our war.
  • 21:52 - 21:55
    Everything we see are interests.
  • 21:55 - 21:57
It has nothing to do with us.
  • 21:57 - 22:00
We, Romania, have to stay home
    in peace.
  • 22:00 - 22:05
Prayer, hope in God and let's not get
    into anything.
  • 22:05 - 22:08
Because there will be chaos if we
    enter this war.
  • 22:08 - 22:10
I have said this many times,
  • 22:10 - 22:11
and I will say it again.
  • 22:11 - 22:15
Let's stay peacefully in our country
and not get involved in any way.
  • 22:17 - 22:20
    Leaders should understand this,
  • 22:20 - 22:25
because they are very much pushing
    to get noticed now.
  • 22:25 - 22:29
There will be chaos if they enter in this
    whole dirty game.
  • 22:29 - 22:33
Let's pray, as I said, to St. Artemius, to
    the Mother of God,
  • 22:33 - 22:38
to help us, and to bring peace
    to the world,
  • 22:38 - 22:42
because woe betide if peace is taken from
    the earth.
  • 22:42 - 22:43
    Yes, my dear ones.
  • 22:43 - 22:47
But we should have hope in God, in the
Mother of God, and in the saints,
  • 22:47 - 22:49
because they will not leave us.
  • 22:49 - 22:50
    Lord help us!
  • 22:50 - 22:55
May the Mother of God and Holy
    Great Martyr Artemius help us!
