Give up on self, Trust in Christ alone! (Freedom from Pornography)

  • 0:25 - 0:27
Some of you might be thinking right now,
  • 0:27 - 0:28
    What was that video about?
  • 0:28 - 0:30
What was the point of that?
  • 0:30 - 0:33
It's to show you the situation
that you are in right now.
  • 0:33 - 0:36
You are charging head on against your sin,
  • 0:36 - 0:39
and you think you're going to beat it.
  • 0:39 - 0:41
The kid on the train tracks - that's you.
  • 0:41 - 0:42
    The train is your sin.
  • 0:42 - 0:44
    And for some absurd reason,
  • 0:44 - 0:46
    you believe that you can kill sin;
  • 0:46 - 0:47
    you can kill pornography;
  • 0:47 - 0:49
    you can kill masturbation.
  • 0:49 - 0:52
    After we put the video
    up a couple days ago
  • 0:52 - 0:54
    we got so many responses
    from different people.
  • 0:54 - 0:56
    And the biggest thing we
    want to watch out for
  • 0:56 - 0:58
is that people don't go head on
  • 0:58 - 1:00
    into a works-based salvation
  • 1:00 - 1:02
of trying to kill sin through self-effort.
  • 1:02 - 1:04
And we mention that some in the video.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
But I want to emphasize that again.
  • 1:06 - 1:10
This is not about what you
can do in your own strength.
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    It's totally about what
Jesus Christ did on that cross,
  • 1:13 - 1:15
and having faith and looking to that.
  • 1:15 - 1:18
    Many people will hear:
    Well, I've got to repent.
  • 1:18 - 1:21
But instead of looking to Christ,
    you're looking at your repentance.
  • 1:21 - 1:23
You're looking at your work to see,
  • 1:23 - 1:25
am I doing the right works?
  • 1:25 - 1:27
    Does my life look like
    someone who is saved?
  • 1:27 - 1:29
Now yes, we should examine our lives,
  • 1:29 - 1:30
but more importantly, we should be
  • 1:30 - 1:32
staring at the glory of God.
  • 1:32 - 1:34
    My friend, the simple fact,
  • 1:34 - 1:35
    what happened in my life
  • 1:35 - 1:37
and every other person who's been saved
  • 1:37 - 1:39
    is that we saw Christ.
  • 1:39 - 1:41
We saw what truly happened on that cross.
  • 1:41 - 1:43
And there is no way I'm
    going to turn around
  • 1:43 - 1:44
    and look the other way
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    once I've seen Christ.
  • 1:46 - 1:48
I'm going to gaze upon Him.
  • 1:48 - 1:50
I see the glory of God.
  • 1:50 - 1:52
And the reality is, as a sheep,
  • 1:52 - 1:53
we might fall into the mud at times.
  • 1:53 - 1:55
But we are going to get out of that mud
  • 1:55 - 1:57
because it's not our nature to stay there,
  • 1:57 - 2:01
and we're going to continue on
the narrow way by the grace of God.
  • 2:01 - 2:02
He will break us. He will discipline us.
  • 2:02 - 2:03
    He will chastise us.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
And maybe God used that very video
  • 2:05 - 2:06
    to break some of you;
  • 2:06 - 2:08
    to chastise you;
  • 2:08 - 2:10
to show you you have got to get desperate.
  • 2:10 - 2:12
There's a war out there to fight.
  • 2:12 - 2:14
    If you're still going home
    and looking at pornography
  • 2:14 - 2:16
    and living in masturbation,
  • 2:16 - 2:17
    and maybe some of
    you are truly born again,
  • 2:17 - 2:20
this is the time, this is the
    hour to get desperate;
  • 2:20 - 2:22
    to realize you have
got to get free of this
  • 2:22 - 2:23
and leave it in the past
  • 2:23 - 2:25
    and run faster for Christ.
  • 2:25 - 2:27
As it says in Hebrews 12:1,
  • 2:27 - 2:29
we've got to let go of the weight.
  • 2:29 - 2:30
    What's entangling you?
  • 2:30 - 2:33
And some of you, what will entangle
    you from running this race;
  • 2:33 - 2:35
what is entangling your legs right now
  • 2:35 - 2:37
    is your self-effort, your self-reliance.
  • 2:37 - 2:39
    So let it all go.
  • 2:39 - 2:41
    Please, just give up.
  • 2:41 - 2:43
It's incredible the freedom you get
  • 2:43 - 2:45
    when you finally give up
    on trying to free yourself
  • 2:45 - 2:47
    and you look to Christ.
  • 2:47 - 2:49
You look to faith in Christ
  • 2:49 - 2:52
and you rely solely upon Him.
  • 2:52 - 2:54
So we just felt like sending this out.
  • 2:54 - 2:56
Some people also asked the question:
  • 2:56 - 3:00
    "Well, if I masturbate
    again, am I saved still?
  • 3:00 - 3:02
    My friend, you don't lose
    salvation if you have it.
  • 3:02 - 3:05
    The question is not:
    can I lose my salvation?
  • 3:05 - 3:08
It is: were you ever truly saved?
  • 3:08 - 3:10
Have you truly had the grace of God
  • 3:10 - 3:11
    shed abroad in your life?
  • 3:11 - 3:15
    And if you have,
    justification by faith is true.
  • 3:15 - 3:16
    It is a reality.
  • 3:16 - 3:18
And this week, we had Tim answer
  • 3:18 - 3:20
    an "Ask Pastor Tim" question.
  • 3:20 - 3:21
And at the end of the question,
  • 3:21 - 3:24
he hit hard on justification by faith.
  • 3:24 - 3:26
So we want to show that to you right now
  • 3:26 - 3:29
    because we want to have
    a massive emphasis on this.
  • 3:29 - 3:31
    We are saved by faith alone;
  • 3:31 - 3:33
by looking unto Christ, looking unto Him,
  • 3:33 - 3:35
    not relying on our own strength;
  • 3:35 - 3:36
    not our self-effort,
  • 3:36 - 3:39
but it's in Christ and Christ alone.
  • 3:39 - 3:40
So all of you guys out there,
  • 3:40 - 3:42
all you girls as well -
  • 3:42 - 3:44
we had many girls sending us emails
  • 3:44 - 3:45
who are in bondage to pornography.
  • 3:45 - 3:46
    And if you're someone else
  • 3:46 - 3:48
    and you haven't contacted
    us yet, feel free.
  • 3:48 - 3:50
Give us an email. We want to talk.
  • 3:50 - 3:52
    I care about you guys.
  • 3:52 - 3:53
    This is real.
  • 3:53 - 3:55
There's true freedom and more important
  • 3:55 - 3:56
    there's true salvation in Christ.
  • 3:56 - 3:58
So I pray you'll be blessed
  • 3:58 - 4:00
    by Tim exhorting on justification
  • 4:00 - 4:03
as all of us at the Bible study were.
  • 4:03 - 4:06
    May God have mercy.
  • 4:07 - 4:09
    Tim: If indeed that man
  • 4:09 - 4:12
had ever truly trusted Jesus Christ -
  • 4:12 - 4:14
let me tell you about the
    doctrine of justification.
  • 4:14 - 4:17
    Basically, justification -
  • 4:17 - 4:20
probably one of the most precious verses
  • 4:20 - 4:22
on justification in all the Bible
  • 4:22 - 4:29
    is found in Romans 4:5.
  • 4:29 - 4:33
Let me read it to you.
  • 4:33 - 4:37
    Romans 4:5
  • 4:37 - 4:39
"To the one who does not work
  • 4:39 - 4:43
    but trusts Him who
    justifies the ungodly..."
  • 4:43 - 4:44
    Listen to that right there.
  • 4:44 - 4:48
    "...Him who justifies the ungodly."
  • 4:48 - 4:50
If you don't understand what that means,
  • 4:50 - 4:51
let me tell you about it.
  • 4:51 - 4:52
    The "Him" is God.
  • 4:52 - 4:54
What does He do? He justifies.
  • 4:54 - 4:57
    Who does He justify?
    He justifies the ungodly.
  • 4:57 - 4:58
    Who are the ungodly?
  • 4:58 - 5:00
    Ungodly people are people
  • 5:00 - 5:02
who are not in submission to God.
  • 5:02 - 5:04
    They're in rebellion against Him.
  • 5:04 - 5:05
    They're people that hate God.
  • 5:05 - 5:06
    They're people that don't
    keep His commandments.
  • 5:06 - 5:08
    They're people that basically
    live their own life
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    selfishly to themselves
  • 5:10 - 5:11
and with no respect to the fact
  • 5:11 - 5:13
that God ever gave them any commandments.
  • 5:13 - 5:14
    They don't have fear
    of God in their heart.
  • 5:14 - 5:15
    They don't seek God.
  • 5:15 - 5:17
    They're ungodly wretches.
  • 5:17 - 5:19
    They're ungodly people.
  • 5:19 - 5:21
"Him" - God - justifies them.
  • 5:21 - 5:23
    What is justification?
  • 5:23 - 5:26
    It means a legal declaration
  • 5:26 - 5:29
basically in the courtroom of Heaven.
  • 5:29 - 5:32
God is declaring the ungodly person
  • 5:32 - 5:34
    absolutely perfect.
  • 5:34 - 5:36
That's what the Gospel is all about.
  • 5:36 - 5:39
    The Gospel is the power
    of God unto salvation.
  • 5:39 - 5:42
    In it, we find revealed
  • 5:42 - 5:43
    the righteousness of God.
  • 5:43 - 5:44
    What is that?
  • 5:44 - 5:47
    It's the righteousness that
    God requires in you,
  • 5:47 - 5:48
    that you never kept -
  • 5:48 - 5:50
    perfect law obedience.
  • 5:50 - 5:52
    And Jesus Christ came here
  • 5:52 - 5:55
and He lived perfectly under that law.
  • 5:55 - 5:59
He earned, He sweat, He fought out,
  • 5:59 - 6:02
He battled, He sweat, He bled,
  • 6:02 - 6:06
    He took that obedience
all the way to the cross,
  • 6:06 - 6:09
    and He earned a
    righteousness for His people.
  • 6:09 - 6:12
And the first moment that true faith
  • 6:12 - 6:14
    is exercised in Christ,
  • 6:14 - 6:17
    that righteousness becomes mine.
  • 6:17 - 6:18
    And nothing takes it away.
  • 6:18 - 6:24
    Listen, God justifies the ungodly,
  • 6:24 - 6:27
and because I was ungodly to start,
  • 6:27 - 6:30
when Christ died for me and earned that,
  • 6:30 - 6:32
    and it's given to me,
  • 6:32 - 6:35
    and the ungodly are justified,
  • 6:35 - 6:37
if that happens when I'm ungodly,
  • 6:37 - 6:42
    certainly, no ungodliness
    can take it away.
  • 6:42 - 6:43
    He does it by faith.
  • 6:43 - 6:45
    It's not by works.
  • 6:45 - 6:46
Works doesn't get it for me
  • 6:46 - 6:49
    and works can't lose it.
  • 6:49 - 6:53
    And suicide is a work.
  • 6:53 - 6:56
    And in the same way
    that no positive works -
  • 6:56 - 6:58
    no baptism, no good work,
  • 6:58 - 7:00
    no helping little old ladies,
  • 7:00 - 7:02
no giving money can ever get me justified,
  • 7:02 - 7:04
    only faith -
  • 7:04 - 7:05
in the same way, no work
  • 7:05 - 7:08
can ever cause me to be unjustified.
  • 7:08 - 7:10
    No suicide.
  • 7:10 - 7:11
    Listen to me,
  • 7:11 - 7:14
    justification is so thorough,
  • 7:14 - 7:15
    it is so certain,
  • 7:15 - 7:18
    it is so radical,
  • 7:18 - 7:20
it is so much a clean slate,
  • 7:20 - 7:22
    that the moment you're justified,
  • 7:22 - 7:25
all your sin - past, yes -
  • 7:25 - 7:28
and all the sins you will ever commit
  • 7:28 - 7:29
    are totally forgiven.
  • 7:29 - 7:32
    They're totally erased.
  • 7:32 - 7:34
That's what justification is all about.
  • 7:34 - 7:37
It is taking a righteousness from Christ
  • 7:37 - 7:40
for yourself in the courtroom of Heaven.
  • 7:40 - 7:43
God looks at you and says, "Perfect."
  • 7:43 - 7:46
Even though practically you will commit
  • 7:46 - 7:47
    more sins in your life.
  • 7:47 - 7:48
    And so what?
  • 7:48 - 7:51
I was saved 19 years ago.
  • 7:51 - 7:53
    Have I committed any
    sins in that 19 years?
  • 7:53 - 7:54
    You better believe I have.
  • 7:54 - 7:56
    But you know what?
    They're all under the blood.
  • 7:56 - 7:59
And even if I've committed adultery
  • 7:59 - 8:01
    and murder like David did,
  • 8:01 - 8:03
    they're under the blood.
  • 8:03 - 8:06
How in the world do you think
    David's in glory right now?
  • 8:06 - 8:09
How do you think he could
say what he said in Psalm 32
  • 8:09 - 8:11
    or in Psalm 51?
  • 8:11 - 8:14
That's repeated, by the way, in Romans 4.
  • 8:14 - 8:18
    "Blessed is the man whose
    transgressions are forgiven."
  • 8:18 - 8:20
Folks, why is it so blessed?
  • 8:20 - 8:22
Why did he even say those words?
  • 8:22 - 8:24
    Because he had committed sin
  • 8:24 - 8:26
    and they were under there.
  • 8:26 - 8:28
Look, there are Christians in this room
  • 8:28 - 8:30
that have committed some pretty bad sins
  • 8:30 - 8:31
    while they've been Christians -
  • 8:31 - 8:33
    not just before.
  • 8:33 - 8:36
The fact is a man can commit suicide
  • 8:36 - 8:38
and if he's a true Christian,
  • 8:38 - 8:43
he will go straight to glory.
  • 8:43 - 8:45
    But the truth is,
  • 8:45 - 8:49
he wasn't characterized as a murderer.
  • 8:49 - 8:51
    He may have fallen.
  • 8:51 - 8:55
    A righteous man can fall.
  • 8:55 - 8:57
But I mean, that's the story on the guy.
  • 8:57 - 8:59
Can a true Christian commit suicide?
  • 8:59 - 9:01
    Well, of course they can.
  • 9:01 - 9:02
    They can.
  • 9:02 - 9:04
Just like they can commit any other sin
  • 9:04 - 9:06
and it's still under the blood.
  • 9:06 - 9:09
    Now, they can't practice that.
  • 9:09 - 9:11
Our prayer is that in one
    of these clips of exhortation,
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    God will use something
to hit you in an area
  • 9:13 - 9:14
that is the stumbling block for you.
  • 9:14 - 9:15
    May the Lord have mercy!
  • 9:15 - 9:17
    In Acts 20:21
  • 9:17 - 9:19
    it says repentance towards God
  • 9:19 - 9:21
and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • 9:21 - 9:22
    Now think about this.
  • 9:22 - 9:24
    Repentance towards God -
  • 9:24 - 9:26
    it's not repentance
    towards your repentance.
  • 9:26 - 9:28
It's never a looking at self.
  • 9:28 - 9:30
It's never a relying on our own strength.
  • 9:30 - 9:32
    Remember the psalm? Psalm 116:6,
  • 9:32 - 9:34
    "The Lord preserves the simple.
  • 9:34 - 9:37
When I was brought low, He saved me."
  • 9:37 - 9:41
    God saves those who
    get this simple mindset
  • 9:41 - 9:43
    that come as a child
    calling "Abba, Father."
  • 9:43 - 9:44
    "I need Christ."
  • 9:44 - 9:46
"I can't do this on my own strength."
  • 9:46 - 9:48
And they give up on self.
  • 9:48 - 9:50
It can be so easy to sit here
  • 9:50 - 9:51
and to analyze, to think of things,
  • 9:51 - 9:53
to look at ourselves and go,
  • 9:53 - 9:54
    is everything okay?
  • 9:54 - 9:56
    Am I right before God?
  • 9:56 - 9:59
    You're not right before God
    if you're looking at self.
  • 9:59 - 10:01
    But when you're looking
    in faith at Christ,
  • 10:01 - 10:03
oh, you are going to be right before God.
  • 10:03 - 10:05
    Because it's not a matter of self-effort.
  • 10:05 - 10:06
It's not a matter of works.
  • 10:06 - 10:09
    But it's a matter of:
this is what Jesus Christ did
  • 10:09 - 10:11
    and I'm looking unto Christ.
  • 10:11 - 10:13
We try to kill sin on our own effort.
  • 10:13 - 10:15
We try to rely on our own strength
  • 10:15 - 10:17
because we believe that in ourselves
  • 10:17 - 10:19
we have some ability to kill sin.
  • 10:19 - 10:21
My friends, that is works salvation.
  • 10:21 - 10:22
    And Romans 3 is clear.
  • 10:22 - 10:25
    "No human being is justified
    by works of the law."
  • 10:25 - 10:27
So you have to give up on that.
  • 10:27 - 10:28
You have to let it go.
  • 10:28 - 10:30
    It's very easy to say,
  • 10:30 - 10:31
well, I'm saved by faith alone.
  • 10:31 - 10:33
I know it's believing in Jesus Christ.
  • 10:33 - 10:35
    Repenting and believing in Him.
  • 10:35 - 10:36
    We can say that.
  • 10:36 - 10:39
I mean, I can ask tons of
people out here in this world,
  • 10:39 - 10:40
    are we saved by faith?
  • 10:40 - 10:41
    And they will say yes.
  • 10:41 - 10:42
But when you look at their life,
  • 10:42 - 10:45
    they're living in a works-based salvation.
  • 10:45 - 10:46
    They believe they are saved
  • 10:46 - 10:48
    because of what they do.
  • 10:48 - 10:49
    It's not about Christ.
  • 10:49 - 10:51
    And so many people are
    entangled up in this.
  • 10:51 - 10:53
Some of you guys like me and my friends,
  • 10:53 - 10:55
    you've grown up in the
    church your whole life,
  • 10:55 - 10:59
and that is the big stumbling
    block you're tripping on.
  • 10:59 - 11:01
    Because you've got to let
    all that past stuff go
  • 11:01 - 11:04
    and you've got to look
    ahead to Christ right now.
  • 11:04 - 11:05
    So look at Christ.
  • 11:05 - 11:08
    There's life. There's freedom.
  • 11:08 - 11:11
And there's this life where it's not about
  • 11:11 - 11:14
what do I have in myself?
  • 11:14 - 11:16
What can I muster my own strength up?
  • 11:16 - 11:17
    Because my friend, your performance
  • 11:17 - 11:19
on killing sin in your own strength
  • 11:19 - 11:21
    is absolutely pathetic
  • 11:21 - 11:23
and it will get your nowhere.
  • 11:23 - 11:24
But when you rely on the Spirit of God,
  • 11:24 - 11:26
    you look to Him
  • 11:26 - 11:27
    for your salvation more importantly,
  • 11:27 - 11:30
    and then once you're saved,
    you continually look to Him,
  • 11:30 - 11:31
as He breaks you down to the ground
  • 11:31 - 11:33
and humbles you and shatters your life
  • 11:33 - 11:35
to mold you to His image...
  • 11:35 - 11:38
    there's freedom, there's life.
  • 11:38 - 11:39
    Look to Christ.
  • 11:39 - 11:42
    Read the Word of God.
  • 11:42 - 11:43
    And think about this.
  • 11:43 - 11:44
If you're in love with someone,
  • 11:44 - 11:45
and they send you an email
  • 11:45 - 11:46
or they send you a letter,
  • 11:46 - 11:48
right when you get that email,
    you're going to read it.
  • 11:48 - 11:50
Right when you get that letter,
    you're going to read it
  • 11:50 - 11:52
because you care about the person
  • 11:52 - 11:53
and you want to know them.
  • 11:53 - 11:56
But many of you here today,
  • 11:56 - 11:58
    rather than reading God's Word,
  • 11:58 - 12:00
    rather than opening
    that letter of the Bible,
  • 12:00 - 12:02
    you're going to man first.
  • 12:02 - 12:04
    You're going to someone
    else first for help.
  • 12:04 - 12:07
If you truly love God and
    you want to know Him,
  • 12:07 - 12:10
    oh, I plead with you,
    open the Word of God.
  • 12:10 - 12:11
    It's real.
  • 12:11 - 12:12
    It's incredible.
  • 12:12 - 12:14
    It's loving.
  • 12:14 - 12:16
    Isaiah 43:4 "Because you
    are precious in My eyes
  • 12:16 - 12:18
    and loved and honored,
  • 12:18 - 12:20
    I give men in return for you;
  • 12:20 - 12:22
peoples in exchange for your life."
  • 12:22 - 12:24
Have you ever heard that verse?
  • 12:24 - 12:26
I heard that verse - it blew my mind away.
  • 12:26 - 12:27
    It punctured my heart.
  • 12:27 - 12:29
It ruptured it with this reality.
  • 12:29 - 12:32
God, not only did He send
    His Son on the cross,
  • 12:32 - 12:35
He gave other men in return for me.
  • 12:35 - 12:37
    That's incredible. That's love.
  • 12:37 - 12:39
But how did I find it out?
  • 12:39 - 12:41
We have to read the love letter from God -
  • 12:41 - 12:43
His Bible that He has given us.
  • 12:43 - 12:44
    So I plead with you,
  • 12:44 - 12:46
    don't run to me first.
  • 12:46 - 12:47
Don't run to man for answers.
  • 12:47 - 12:49
    Run to God.
  • 12:49 - 12:51
    Look unto Christ.
  • 12:51 - 12:54
    Because the Lord has given
us the Word for a reason.
  • 12:54 - 12:56
    And if you're reading it
    and it feels like it's dull;
  • 12:56 - 12:58
it feels like I'm not getting
    anything out of this,
  • 12:58 - 12:59
I'm reading the Bible and there's nothing,
  • 12:59 - 13:02
oh, my friend, just keep pounding
    into the Word of God.
  • 13:02 - 13:05
The simple fact is if someone
    called you right now
  • 13:05 - 13:06
and you didn't pick up the phone,
  • 13:06 - 13:09
    but they really, really
    wanted to talk to you,
  • 13:09 - 13:10
    they would call you back.
  • 13:10 - 13:11
    They would never stop calling
  • 13:11 - 13:13
until you picked up that phone.
  • 13:13 - 13:15
And the same you should be with Christ.
  • 13:15 - 13:17
    If you truly want God;
  • 13:17 - 13:19
if you're truly calling unto Jesus Christ,
  • 13:19 - 13:21
    don't stop after one call.
  • 13:21 - 13:22
    You call until He answers
  • 13:22 - 13:24
because He says He will answer.
  • 13:24 - 13:28
"And everyone who calls on the
name of the Lord shall be saved."
  • 13:28 - 13:30
You can bank on that promise
  • 13:30 - 13:32
    because it's from God.
  • 13:32 - 13:33
And you can bank on the promise
  • 13:33 - 13:35
that if you have faith in Christ,
  • 13:35 - 13:36
    you will be changed.
  • 13:36 - 13:37
    You will be free.
  • 13:37 - 13:39
And you will be walking in the light.
  • 13:39 - 13:41
And yes, my friend, a sheep
will fall in the mud at times,
  • 13:41 - 13:43
but you are no longer a pig.
  • 13:43 - 13:44
You will not live in it.
  • 13:44 - 13:46
You will walk in the light
as He is in the light.
  • 13:46 - 13:49
And you will have fellowship with Him.
  • 13:49 - 13:51
Praise the Lord for what He's done.
  • 13:51 - 13:53
    God is so good.
  • 13:53 - 13:55
Listen, so many of you out there,
  • 13:55 - 13:56
    you feel empty inside.
  • 13:56 - 13:58
    You're just depressed.
  • 13:58 - 13:59
You just can't believe that you keep
  • 13:59 - 14:01
    falling back into this sin
  • 14:01 - 14:02
    and the depression, the emptiness,
  • 14:02 - 14:04
    it's just overwhelming you.
  • 14:04 - 14:06
You know what? The sin you
    might be holding on to,
  • 14:06 - 14:08
    if you realize you're lost
    and you're not in Christ,
  • 14:08 - 14:10
it can be the sin of self-pity.
  • 14:10 - 14:12
What can keep you from coming to Christ,
  • 14:12 - 14:13
    and I know many people
  • 14:13 - 14:15
    who are in this situation,
  • 14:15 - 14:16
what keeps them from coming to Christ
  • 14:16 - 14:17
    is their self-pity.
  • 14:17 - 14:19
They feel so bad about their emptiness,
  • 14:19 - 14:20
    about their bondage.
  • 14:20 - 14:21
They have all the head knowledge.
  • 14:21 - 14:22
    They've got the doctrine.
  • 14:22 - 14:25
    But what they're not doing
    is looking unto Christ.
  • 14:25 - 14:26
And some people will sit back
  • 14:26 - 14:27
and they know the doctrines of grace,
  • 14:27 - 14:28
and they sit here and they go
  • 14:28 - 14:30
    "Oh, I'm not elect."
  • 14:30 - 14:32
    "Oh, God's not drawing me."
  • 14:32 - 14:34
My friend, if you realize your state,
  • 14:34 - 14:38
    if you have some type
    of grief for your sin,
  • 14:38 - 14:39
how can you sit here and go,
  • 14:39 - 14:40
"Oh, I'm hardened to my sin."
  • 14:40 - 14:42
    That's absurd. That's ridiculous.
  • 14:42 - 14:43
    Run to Christ.
  • 14:43 - 14:46
Run to Him and come as a child.
  • 14:46 - 14:47
    When we were kids,
  • 14:47 - 14:49
we didn't know how to cook our food.
  • 14:49 - 14:51
    We didn't know how to
    go to the refrigerator.
  • 14:51 - 14:53
We didn't know where the food came from.
  • 14:53 - 14:55
We were totally blind to those things.
  • 14:55 - 14:56
All we knew is that if we called upon
  • 14:56 - 14:58
    our father or our mother,
  • 14:58 - 15:00
they would give us the food.
  • 15:00 - 15:01
They would watch out for us.
  • 15:01 - 15:03
Do you look at Christ like that?
  • 15:03 - 15:04
Do you come to Him as a child?
  • 15:04 - 15:06
Because it says in the Word of God,
  • 15:06 - 15:07
if you don't come as a child,
  • 15:07 - 15:09
    you're not going to Heaven.
  • 15:09 - 15:10
    Why?
  • 15:10 - 15:11
    Pride.
  • 15:11 - 15:14
    The pride of man says,
    "I don't need anyone's help.
  • 15:14 - 15:16
I can do all this on my own.
  • 15:16 - 15:17
    You know what? Who cares?
  • 15:17 - 15:19
I don't need help. I got it. I got it."
  • 15:19 - 15:20
    You don't have it.
  • 15:20 - 15:22
    You might have it for
    a month - the self-effort,
  • 15:22 - 15:23
    but then you fall right
    back into your sin,
  • 15:23 - 15:25
    right back into the bondage.
  • 15:25 - 15:27
It's all about giving up on self
  • 15:27 - 15:29
    and looking unto Christ
  • 15:29 - 15:30
and truly seeing what He did.
  • 15:30 - 15:31
    While you were weak,
  • 15:31 - 15:33
He bore the wrath of God on that cross
  • 15:33 - 15:35
    and became sin for you.
  • 15:35 - 15:37
And if your faith is in that,
  • 15:37 - 15:38
    oh, my friends,
  • 15:38 - 15:40
not only will you be saved,
  • 15:40 - 15:41
    you'll have an assurance
  • 15:41 - 15:44
and a confidence and a joy and peace
  • 15:44 - 15:46
while you're walking in that light
  • 15:46 - 15:49
    with Christ and Him alone.
  • 15:49 - 15:52
    When I was brought low,
    He truly did save me.
  • 15:52 - 15:55
    And if you haven't been
brought low of all your pride,
  • 15:55 - 15:57
and you're still living in your pride,
  • 15:57 - 15:58
how do you profess to know Christ?
  • 15:58 - 16:00
Because you've got to come as a child.
  • 16:00 - 16:03
    And more importantly,
you have to come to Him.
  • 16:03 - 16:04
Don't look at your state and go,
  • 16:04 - 16:04
    am I a child?
  • 16:04 - 16:06
Am I walking like a child?
  • 16:06 - 16:09
Just rely on Him. Look to Christ.
  • 16:09 - 16:11
May God have mercy on you.
  • 16:11 - 16:12
    Again, we're here for you,
  • 16:12 - 16:13
but first I plead with you,
  • 16:13 - 16:15
go to the Word of God
  • 16:15 - 16:17
and go to God in prayer.
  • 16:17 - 16:18
    Call out to Him.
  • 16:18 - 16:21
If you really want Him just call!
  • 16:21 - 16:22
    Don't stop.
  • 16:22 - 16:23
    You truly want Christ?
  • 16:23 - 16:25
    Don't sit there and try
    to pray for 30 seconds
  • 16:25 - 16:27
or even 30 minutes and just go,
  • 16:27 - 16:28
"God didn't come" and give up.
  • 16:28 - 16:29
    You cling to Him.
  • 16:29 - 16:31
    You call to Him.
  • 16:31 - 16:34
You will not be put to shame.
  • 16:34 - 16:36
The only excuse - if you say,
  • 16:36 - 16:37
    "Oh, God didn't come,"
  • 16:37 - 16:38
    you cannot blame God.
  • 16:38 - 16:40
God says if you call, He will come.
  • 16:40 - 16:42
And if you say you called
    and He did not come,
  • 16:42 - 16:44
it's because you truly did not call.
  • 16:44 - 16:45
    You might say, "I called."
  • 16:45 - 16:47
    What you're saying is calling
  • 16:47 - 16:49
is not what the Bible says is calling.
  • 16:49 - 16:51
    You might be calling fully
    out of some worldly grief
  • 16:51 - 16:53
    and it's all about self.
  • 16:53 - 16:55
    It's so selfish that you
    don't even realize
  • 16:55 - 16:56
    you're not calling on God,
  • 16:56 - 16:59
you're calling on the idol of a god.
  • 16:59 - 17:04
Again, don't get confused with analysis,
  • 17:04 - 17:06
    get brought to your knees
  • 17:06 - 17:08
    and look to Christ
  • 17:08 - 17:11
and plead with God for mercy.
  • 17:11 - 17:13
As it says in Matthew 11:28,
  • 17:13 - 17:15
    we're coming to Christ.
  • 17:15 - 17:17
We're taking this burden of our sin,
  • 17:17 - 17:19
    this grief, this realization
  • 17:19 - 17:21
that we've sinned before a holy God,
  • 17:21 - 17:22
    we're taking it to Christ.
  • 17:22 - 17:24
It can be very easy to run to people,
  • 17:24 - 17:26
    to confess to people.
  • 17:26 - 17:28
It's very easy to send me an email
  • 17:28 - 17:29
and say I'm going through this,
  • 17:29 - 17:31
and I'm not saying not to send me emails.
  • 17:31 - 17:33
That is fine. Praise the Lord.
  • 17:33 - 17:36
    We've got to be authentic,
we've got to take the mask off
  • 17:36 - 17:37
and live in a transparent world
  • 17:37 - 17:40
    and a transparent lifestyle
    by the grace of God.
  • 17:40 - 17:42
    But, the important thing is
  • 17:42 - 17:43
    I can't save you.
  • 17:43 - 17:44
I can send you some verses
  • 17:44 - 17:46
    and you can read that
    and you can know Christ,
  • 17:46 - 17:48
and in that knowing of Christ,
  • 17:48 - 17:50
it should spur you on to a love of God,
  • 17:50 - 17:53
to look to Him and God
    will save your soul.
  • 17:53 - 17:55
Jesus Christ is the only way.
  • 17:55 - 17:57
Repentance towards Him. Faith in Christ.
  • 17:57 - 18:00
    Just resting on Him, knowing
    He's watching over us.
  • 18:00 - 18:03
    And He has put these
promises in the Word of God
  • 18:03 - 18:05
    that are real.
  • 18:05 - 18:07
I mean, you heard me testify about it
  • 18:07 - 18:08
    in the other video.
  • 18:08 - 18:10
You've heard other people testify about it.
  • 18:10 - 18:11
    I mean, this is real.
  • 18:11 - 18:13
    God will save you.
  • 18:13 - 18:15
    Don't let this conviction -
  • 18:15 - 18:17
    maybe you've seen the
other video or other videos -
  • 18:17 - 18:20
don't let that conviction just die away.
  • 18:20 - 18:21
    Don't just go a week
  • 18:21 - 18:23
and you're running for a week
  • 18:23 - 18:24
    and then you fall.
  • 18:24 - 18:26
    Listen, you might be two
    years down the road
  • 18:26 - 18:27
and you might be in the same boat
  • 18:27 - 18:29
you are right now watching this video,
  • 18:29 - 18:32
    because you're unwilling to
    let go of your self-effort
  • 18:32 - 18:34
and submit to God and be humble.
  • 18:34 - 18:36
You've got to get brought low
  • 18:36 - 18:38
    and realize I've got nothing.
  • 18:38 - 18:40
    My total and sole reliance
  • 18:40 - 18:43
is upon Jesus Christ my King.
  • 18:43 - 18:44
    That's it.
  • 18:44 - 18:47
So may God help you guys.
  • 18:47 - 18:49
I mean, this is such a war.
  • 18:49 - 18:52
And I know. I was there.
  • 18:52 - 18:54
    I mean, something I think I
    mentioned on the other video,
  • 18:54 - 18:56
    I spent three years straight
  • 18:56 - 18:58
    in my self-effort.
  • 18:58 - 19:01
I spent three years of my life
  • 19:01 - 19:03
trying to free myself from my pornography
  • 19:03 - 19:05
and my masturbation as a lost person.
  • 19:05 - 19:06
I had the filters. I did the courses.
  • 19:06 - 19:08
I had it all. I was authentic.
  • 19:08 - 19:10
    I had accountability partners.
  • 19:10 - 19:12
But what I did not have
    is Jesus Christ, my friend.
  • 19:12 - 19:13
    I did not have Christ.
  • 19:13 - 19:15
    And I spent three years.
  • 19:15 - 19:18
That is a long time once I think about it.
  • 19:18 - 19:20
    And then finally, one night,
  • 19:20 - 19:21
    I leave a Bible study.
  • 19:21 - 19:23
    I get home and God
    smashed me to the ground
  • 19:23 - 19:24
    and He broke me
  • 19:24 - 19:28
and I finally had that godly grief
  • 19:28 - 19:30
and I finally looked to Christ
  • 19:30 - 19:32
and I stopped looking to my own strength.
  • 19:32 - 19:34
    I gave up.
  • 19:34 - 19:36
    So give up.
  • 19:36 - 19:37
    And you might say,
"oh, he's saying to give up.
  • 19:37 - 19:39
    I've already tried that.
    I've already tried giving up.
  • 19:39 - 19:41
It sounds so easy, but it's so hard
  • 19:41 - 19:43
when it comes to the action."
  • 19:43 - 19:46
My friend, giving up is looking to Christ.
  • 19:46 - 19:48
It's very easy to look to Christ,
  • 19:48 - 19:50
to pray, to read the Word of God,
  • 19:50 - 19:52
to be around those who love Christ.
  • 19:52 - 19:54
It's real easy to look at yourself and go,
  • 19:54 - 19:55
    well, I'm looking to Christ,
  • 19:55 - 19:57
    when you're looking to yourself
to see if you're looking to Christ
  • 19:57 - 20:00
    you're not looking to Christ.
  • 20:00 - 20:02
    Look to Christ.
  • 20:02 - 20:04
    He will save your soul.
  • 20:04 - 20:05
He'll put you in that light.
  • 20:05 - 20:10
And to have joy - God saves!
  • 20:10 - 20:13
Praise the Lord for what He's done.
  • 20:13 - 20:15
    Run to Him.
  • 20:15 - 20:17
Run to Him. Get that rest.
  • 20:17 - 20:19
I mean, this is the day.
  • 20:19 - 20:21
If you're not going to turn today,
  • 20:21 - 20:22
    will you ever turn?
  • 20:22 - 20:25
    Now or never.
