Trump Abroad: Oh, the Places Those Tiny Hands Will Go!: The Daily Show

  • 0:01 - 0:03
    President Trump's first stop
    was Saudi Arabia.
  • 0:03 - 0:06
And, I don't know about you,
  • 0:06 - 0:10
but I was waiting for him to
    spark an international incident.
  • 0:10 - 0:12
You know, like, I was waiting
for him to walk off the plane
  • 0:12 - 0:14
    going, "So many ninjas!"
  • 0:14 - 0:16
    (laughter)
  • 0:17 - 0:19
    But, luckily,
    that didn't happen.
  • 0:19 - 0:21
    And, now, Trump hoped
    that people would focus
  • 0:21 - 0:25
    on his carefully crafted speech
    about Islam and terrorism,
  • 0:25 - 0:28
    but, uh,
    unfortunately, his mouth
  • 0:28 - 0:30
was soon overtaken by his hands.
  • 0:30 - 0:33
    REPORTER: You may have seen
    this rather strange image
  • 0:33 - 0:35
    of President Trump standing
    alongside the Saudi king
  • 0:35 - 0:37
    and the president of Egypt,
  • 0:37 - 0:41
all off them with their hands
    on a glowing white orb.
  • 0:41 - 0:43
It looks less like a summit
    of world leaders
  • 0:43 - 0:45
    and more like a scene
out of a bizarro Captain Planet.
  • 0:46 - 0:49
    You know?
    "Let our powers combine. Oil!"
  • 0:49 - 0:51
    "Plutonium!"
  • 0:51 - 0:52
    "Spray tan!"
  • 0:52 - 0:55
    (laughter)
  • 0:55 - 0:57
    Now... Now, to be fair,
  • 0:57 - 1:00
that's not all that Trump did
with his hands in Saudi Arabia.
  • 1:00 - 1:03
The president also signed a deal
    to sell the Saudis
  • 1:03 - 1:06
    $110 billion in weapons,
  • 1:06 - 1:08
    which-- can I just say
    for a second?
  • 1:08 - 1:10
    Like, what a load
    of bull(bleep), right?
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    No, no,
    Trump goes to Saudi Arabia
  • 1:13 - 1:17
    and never once mentions
    radical Islamic terrorism,
  • 1:17 - 1:20
    which is what he condemned
    Obama for, right?
  • 1:20 - 1:23
    And on top of that,
he signs the biggest arms deal
  • 1:23 - 1:25
    in American history
    with the Saudis,
  • 1:25 - 1:29
the same people he even said
    were behind 9/11.
  • 1:29 - 1:31
    Really? What, was Trump
    sitting there with them like...
  • 1:31 - 1:33
    (imitating Trump):
"All right, you got to promise
  • 1:33 - 1:37
    you're not gonna use these
    to do another 9/11."
  • 1:37 - 1:40
    They're like, "No, Donald,
    we'll never do another 9/11.
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    We'll do
    a completely different date."
  • 1:41 - 1:42
    "Deal.
  • 1:43 - 1:45
    Wait, what?"
  • 1:46 - 1:48
    But if you are worried
    about American security,
  • 1:47 - 1:49
    luckily,
    President Trump's speech
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    did offer a grim warning
    to young Muslims
  • 1:51 - 1:53
    considering a career
    in terrorism.
  • 1:53 - 1:55
    Your life will be empty,
  • 1:55 - 1:57
    your life will be brief
  • 1:57 - 2:00
    and your soul
  • 2:00 - 2:03
    will be fully condemned.
  • 2:03 - 2:06
    I-I'm sorry,
    those were Trump's wedding vows.
  • 2:06 - 2:08
    -We were look... The-the tape...
    -(laughter and applause)
  • 2:07 - 2:10
    D-Do we not have the...?
  • 2:10 - 2:12
    Hmm. Sorry about that.
  • 2:12 - 2:15
    Sorry.
  • 2:15 - 2:17
    So, all in all,
  • 2:18 - 2:19
    Trump handled
    the Saudi trip well,
  • 2:19 - 2:21
and he was just getting started.
  • 2:21 - 2:22
    Next stop, Israel,
  • 2:22 - 2:25
where the president got a chance
    to place his hands
  • 2:25 - 2:27
    on one of Jerusalem's
    holiest sites,
  • 2:27 - 2:28
    the Western Wall.
  • 2:29 - 2:32
    And you know that made
    a big impression on Trump.
  • 2:31 - 2:33
    "You see this, folks?
  • 2:33 - 2:37
    "They build one wall
    2,000 years ago,
  • 2:37 - 2:39
    zero Mexicans
    in their whole country."
  • 2:39 - 2:42
    (laughter)
  • 2:42 - 2:44
    And by the way,
  • 2:44 - 2:46
    my favorite part
    of Trump's time in Israel
  • 2:46 - 2:48
was the part when he didn't know
  • 2:48 - 2:50
    what part of the world
    Israel was in.
  • 2:51 - 2:54
    We just got back
    from the Middle East.
  • 2:54 - 2:56
    We just got back
    from Saudi Arabia and, uh...
  • 2:56 - 3:00
    (laughter)
  • 3:00 - 3:04
    Everyone's reaction was captured
by that guy in the corner.
  • 3:04 - 3:05
    Just look at him.
  • 3:05 - 3:08
    Look at his face.
  • 3:08 - 3:11
    While Trump is saying that.
  • 3:11 - 3:14
    He's like, "Do you know
how much work I had to do
  • 3:14 - 3:16
"just to get in this room,
  • 3:16 - 3:20
    and this asshole
didn't even look at a map?"
  • 3:20 - 3:22
    But it wasn't long
    before Trump's hands
  • 3:22 - 3:24
    were once again
    dominating his trip,
  • 3:24 - 3:25
    because instead of his visits
  • 3:25 - 3:29
    and looking at the effect
    on U.S.-Israel relations,
  • 3:29 - 3:33
    everyone was focused
    on Donald-Melania relations.
  • 3:33 - 3:35
The thing that got an enormous
    amount of media attention
  • 3:35 - 3:38
had to do with Melania Trump,
the first lady, and some video.
  • 3:39 - 3:41
    Was this an actual slap,
  • 3:41 - 3:43
    or did she just
    pull her hand away?
  • 3:43 - 3:44
    She pulled her hand away,
  • 3:44 - 3:47
    but I didn't quite see
    the contact of a slap.
  • 3:47 - 3:49
    Wow.
  • 3:49 - 3:51
    Leave it to Fox News
    not to recognize
  • 3:51 - 3:53
    what rejection
    from a woman looks like.
  • 3:53 - 3:55
    (cheers and applause)
  • 3:55 - 3:56
    After seeing what Trump's hands
  • 3:56 - 3:59
    were capable of,
    clearly, the new...
  • 3:59 - 4:01
    the newly elected
    French president
  • 4:01 - 4:02
    wasn't taking any chances.
  • 4:02 - 4:04
    NEWSWOMAN: This handshake
    with France's new president,
  • 4:04 - 4:07
    Emmanual Macron,
    it went on and on.
  • 4:08 - 4:10
    So long,
    it appears President Trump
  • 4:10 - 4:13
    tried to pull away,
    their knuckles turning white.
  • 4:13 - 4:15
    NEWSMAN:
    He told a French publication,
  • 4:15 - 4:18
    "My handshake with President
    Trump was not innocent..."
  • 4:23 - 4:24
Wow! That was the first time
  • 4:24 - 4:26
    Donald Trump was
    on the receiving end
  • 4:26 - 4:28
    of an unwelcome hand grab.
  • 4:28 - 4:30
    And what's worse
    is that after that,
  • 4:30 - 4:32
    President Macron bragged
    about it to Billy Bush.
  • 4:32 - 4:34
    (French accent):
    You should have seen him.
  • 4:34 - 4:36
I moved on him like a bitch. Ah.
  • 4:37 - 4:39
    When you are famous,
    you can do it. Yeah!
  • 4:40 - 4:41
    I just grabbed him,
    and he was like,
  • 4:41 - 4:43
    "Let go, Macron, let go!"
  • 4:43 - 4:46
I said, "You like that, Trump,
    don't you? You like that!
  • 4:46 - 4:50
Yeah, you like it. You like it."
  • 4:50 - 4:52
    -(cheering, applause)
    -Now, uh...
  • 4:54 - 4:59
    Now, of course,
    that handshake didn't distract
  • 4:59 - 5:02
    from Trump's hands' real agenda,
    at the NATO meeing,
  • 5:02 - 5:05
    and that was finger-wagging.
  • 5:04 - 5:07
    Because during his speech,
    Trump lambasted the Europeans
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    for not spending more
    on their militaries.
  • 5:10 - 5:12
    And he wouldn't reaffirm
    America's commitment
  • 5:12 - 5:14
    to defend Europe.
  • 5:14 - 5:16
    (like Trump):
Look, if it was up to me,
  • 5:16 - 5:19
    I'd fight for you,
but it's up to the orb now.
  • 5:20 - 5:21
    (laughter)
  • 5:21 - 5:23
    And the orb says no.
  • 5:23 - 5:25
    So in one day,
    Trump may have done
  • 5:25 - 5:27
    what Russia has been trying
    to do for 50 years.
  • 5:28 - 5:30
    Right? And that is
    break the alliance
  • 5:30 - 5:31
    between the United States
    and Europe.
  • 5:31 - 5:33
    Which would make it easier
for Russia to extend its powers
  • 5:34 - 5:36
    in places like the Ukraine.
  • 5:36 - 5:38
And I don't know if Trump
    even recognized
  • 5:38 - 5:41
    how bad this trip was
    for U.S.-European relations.
  • 5:41 - 5:44
    Because when he got back,
    he tweeted...
  • 5:53 - 5:55
    Now, unfortunately,
    the big results
  • 5:55 - 5:58
    aren't what most Americans
    would have hoped for.
  • 5:58 - 6:00
    NEWSWOMAN: German chancellor,
    Angela Merkel, warned Sunday
  • 6:00 - 6:03
    that Europe cannot completely
    rely on the U.S. anymore.
  • 6:03 - 6:07
    TRANSLATOR: The times when we
    can completely count on others,
  • 6:07 - 6:09
    they are over
    to a certain extent.
  • 6:09 - 6:11
    I've experienced this
    in the last few days,
  • 6:12 - 6:16
and that is why I can only say
    that we Europeans
  • 6:16 - 6:20
    must really take our fate
    into our own hands.
  • 6:20 - 6:23
    Yeah. Clearly, Angela Merkel
    got one look at Trump,
  • 6:23 - 6:27
    and was like, "All right,
our fate is in our own hands,
  • 6:27 - 6:30
    because his clearly ruin
    everything they touch."
