TROM Poems: Daily Hustle

  • 0:01 - 0:04
    DAILY HUSTLE
    By Seb
  • 0:04 - 0:09
It seems like the modern world traps
most people in a self-centered bubble.
  • 0:10 - 0:13
    Everyone's too busy keeping
    their head above water
  • 0:13 - 0:16
that they can't see beyond their
    own economic struggle.
  • 0:17 - 0:19
How can you care or help
    someone in trouble,
  • 0:19 - 0:21
    if you yourself are stuck
  • 0:21 - 0:24
    in capitalism's ruthless
    everyday hustle?
  • 0:25 - 0:29
For most humans the market has
    made it impossible to survive
  • 0:29 - 0:32
    without submitting to the
    rules of the rat race.
  • 0:32 - 0:34
    Deviate don't play or revolt
  • 0:34 - 0:39
and you will most likely be ostracized,
    neglected and put in place.
  • 0:39 - 0:43
Working most of your life for some
corporation or business like a slave
  • 0:43 - 0:46
probably has a lot to do with school family
  • 0:46 - 0:50
    and society Indoctrinating you on
how it is you should behave.
  • 0:51 - 0:55
    Our predatory world consists
of a whole lot of sharp elbows,
  • 0:55 - 0:59
most people fight about who's got
    the most expensive house,
  • 0:59 - 1:02
the fastest car and the shiniest clothes.
  • 1:02 - 1:04
    That's it. Clothes and shows
  • 1:04 - 1:07
seem to be all the average
    person really knows.
  • 1:07 - 1:10
    Science, technology and critical thinking
  • 1:10 - 1:14
    are simply made irrelevant
    to the masses I suppose.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
But I know it's difficult to think critically,
  • 1:16 - 1:19
    if you're in an environment
    that rewards ignorance
  • 1:19 - 1:21
and also messes you up physically.
  • 1:22 - 1:28
Our daily lives are strongly influenced by social
    pressure and our economic circumstances.
  • 1:28 - 1:34
Hence, even when someone wants changed they rarely
risk or can afford to take any serious stances.
  • 1:35 - 1:39
So like rats shoved into a train,
    the daily hustle continues
  • 1:39 - 1:41
forcing most to play today's ruthless
  • 1:41 - 1:44
    and consumeristic everyday game.
  • 1:45 - 1:46
But that's not how it must be.
  • 1:47 - 1:51
Through education and by looking at our
problems from a structural point of view
  • 1:51 - 1:55
You might be able to see that it is
possible to create a new system
  • 1:55 - 1:59
    that surpasses this daily
    hustle of "You vs. Me"
  • 1:59 - 2:03
of "Them vs. Us", of division,
    materialism and coldness;
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    of most people's daily monotony,
  • 2:05 - 2:10
of the psychological suppression that comes with working
for someone or something you don't believe in
  • 2:10 - 2:12
    for most of your life.
  • 2:12 - 2:17
Today's outdated labor for income system
in our polluted and disconnected society
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    is not working any longer
  • 2:19 - 2:22
    Most of today's jobs are
    completely unnecessary
  • 2:22 - 2:25
and a part of an old and
    unsustainable economic system.
  • 2:25 - 2:27
    A system that hasn't
    always been around
  • 2:27 - 2:30
    and will certainly disappear
    one way or another.
  • 2:30 - 2:36
One way could be by re-engineering it into
one that fits our technological potential
  • 2:36 - 2:39
and the wisdom that we are all in this together
  • 2:39 - 2:41
    as one big species.
  • 2:41 - 2:46
There is no need for subservience, exploitation,
    financial pressure, competitive behavior
  • 2:46 - 2:48
and most of our problems today
  • 2:48 - 2:52
    in a technologically advanced
    world of abundance.
  • 2:52 - 2:53
    If you haven't already
  • 2:54 - 2:56
