Freed from Pornography by Being Satisfied in Christ
-
0:04 - 0:11I hope to shed some light on some quotes I have here
that I've gotten from e-mails in the last three years. -
0:11 - 0:16The first one is, a person says, "I think my real problem is depression,
-
0:16 - 0:18and I use pornography to self-comfort.
-
0:18 - 0:23I know that is worthy of death before a holy God, but I am stuck."
-
0:23 - 0:25I'll tell you, that's true!
-
0:25 - 0:29And the real problem, listen, there's a domino that is falling here:
-
0:29 - 0:32you get depressed and you feel lonely;
-
0:32 - 0:35you fall into self-pity; you run to pornography.
-
0:35 - 0:38So you're right - the root issue here is not pornography.
-
0:38 - 0:41But the root issue here also is not depression.
-
0:41 - 0:44The root issue here is not being satisfied in Christ.
-
0:44 - 0:46Because by not being satisfied in the Lord
-
0:46 - 0:50and dwelling in the house of the Lord and beholding the beauty of the Lord,
-
0:50 - 0:51you get depressed.
-
0:51 - 0:55You lose that perfect peace that Isaiah 26:3 talks about,
-
0:55 - 0:57and therefore you get lonely.
-
0:57 - 1:01And when you get lonely you feel a void inside,
and you think, "Well, I need to fill that void." -
1:01 - 1:07And instead of repenting and taking the way of
escape that 1 Corinthians 10:13 talks about, -
1:07 - 1:10you then run to pornography, you run to an idol.
-
1:10 - 1:13And you raise that up, and it doesn't satisfy. (P)
-
1:13 - 1:20You know, it says in Ezekiel 16 that the
Israelites were whoring with their idols. -
1:20 - 1:22Why? They were not satisfied.
-
1:22 - 1:26Because they weren't satisfied, they went and pursued their idols,
-
1:26 - 1:28and it left them even more empty.
-
1:28 - 1:31It says, "Even still you were not satisfied."
-
1:31 - 1:33And even yet still, they weren't satisfied.
-
1:33 - 1:35And they were a bold-faced harlot -
-
1:35 - 1:41they were prostituting themselves with all of their
false idols instead of returning to the Lord. -
1:41 - 1:43And that's what so many people do.
-
1:43 - 1:46Don't focus on freedom from pornography.
-
1:46 - 1:50Focus on Christ, then you will have freedom from pornography.
-
1:50 - 1:52I guarantee it.
-
1:52 - 1:56Do not pursue freedom. You'll never get it.
-
1:56 - 2:01You may get freedom from pornography, but then
you got pride - now you're a slave of pride. -
2:01 - 2:06You traded one sin for another sin. And freedom doesn't satisfy.
-
2:06 - 2:08When I wake up in the morning, I'm not thinking,
-
2:08 - 2:11"Well, how can I be a self-righteous pharisee and have freedom today,
-
2:11 - 2:14and then pat myself on the back and feel good at the end of the day?"
-
2:14 - 2:18No, I'm waking up and I'm saying this:
"I want to behold the beauty of the Lord. -
2:18 - 2:22My flesh faints for the Living God. I'm thirsting for Him.
-
2:22 - 2:24Earnestly am I going to seek the Lord."
-
2:24 - 2:28And I'm going to go to bed tonight, I'm going to
meditate on the Lord in the watches of the night, -
2:28 - 2:32and I'm going to see the victories that He gave me
throughout the day because I was relying on Him. -
2:32 - 2:35I wasn't trusting in the arm of my flesh for victory.
-
2:35 - 2:37I was trusting in the arm of the Living God,
-
2:37 - 2:39knowing the Lord is with me, the Lord will give me victory,
-
2:39 - 2:41the Lord will allow me to overcome.
-
2:41 - 2:44It's not an Internet filter, it's not an accountability partner.
-
2:44 - 2:46It's beholding the beauty of Christ.
-
2:46 - 2:49That is the answer to freedom from pornography.
-
2:49 - 2:51It's knowing Him. (P)
-
2:51 - 2:53I'll tell you, don't pursue freedom,
-
2:53 - 2:56and don't focus on "I need freedom from pornography".
-
2:56 - 3:00Focus and behold Christ, and you will have freedom.
-
3:00 - 3:03That's the only reason I've had freedom since I've been converted.
-
3:03 - 3:09And if I stop beholding the Living God
I will fall into sin, just like King David did. -
3:09 - 3:11You read in Samuel about the victories that he had,
-
3:11 - 3:15the wars that he won, about every enemy being routed out.
-
3:15 - 3:17But then he made a mistake.
-
3:17 - 3:21At the time when the kings should have been at war, David didn't go to war.
-
3:21 - 3:22He was proud.
-
3:22 - 3:25And some of you, instead of seeking the Lord and being in the Word,
-
3:25 - 3:29being satisfied in the beauty of Christ, you ignore the Scriptures.
-
3:29 - 3:31You go running around on Facebook all day.
-
3:31 - 3:34You go running around in all the other pursuits of the world -
-
3:34 - 3:37some of them even ministerial pursuits.
-
3:37 - 3:40You think: "Well, look what I'm doing for God."
-
3:40 - 3:42Listen, we can do a whole lot for the Lord.
-
3:42 - 3:44But if we're not being satisfied in the Lord,
-
3:44 - 3:48we can perform very well, but we will not overcome.
-
3:48 - 3:55It's a deadly idol to get your joy from your performance
and not from the perfect performance of Jesus Christ. -
3:55 - 4:01I mean, that's where my joy comes from,
because even if I fall, Christ didn't. (P) -
4:01 - 4:06Jesus Christ, who laid the foundations of the world, lived a perfect life in my place.
-
4:06 - 4:10And then He died on that Cross as a perfect, spotless sacrifice once and for all,
-
4:10 - 4:15to satisfy the wrath of God that I deserved in hell for all of an eternity.
-
4:15 - 4:18And He rose again from the dead - He proved who He was.
-
4:18 - 4:22And that same victory that He had on Calvary,
and that resurrection from the dead, -
4:22 - 4:26He'll give to the one who comes to Him,
who stops trying to save himself, -
4:26 - 4:31who gives up and surrenders, and says,
"Lord, I cannot overcome this Goliath in my life. -
4:31 - 4:35I can not. The Goliath is too big, he's too great."
-
4:35 - 4:38And then, there that David is - that Christ - and He comes in there,
-
4:38 - 4:40and He slays him on our behalf.
-
4:40 - 4:41That is the only hope of victory.
-
4:41 - 4:45You will never get victory through Internet filters and accountability partners.
-
4:45 - 4:47It just won't work.
-
4:47 - 4:51It blows my mind how many people out there are not focusing on the root.
-
4:51 - 4:55The root issue is you're not satisfied in the beauty of the Lord,
-
4:55 - 4:58because if you saw what He did on that Cross for your sins,
-
4:58 - 5:00you would look and when you feel impatience coming,
-
5:00 - 5:02when you feel the temptation to lust,
-
5:02 - 5:08there that way of escape is - "God is faithful" - you behold Christ!
-
5:08 - 5:10You're satisfied with His likeness. (P)
-
5:10 - 5:12What does Psalms 90:14 say?
-
5:12 - 5:16"Lord, satisfy us with your steadfast love in the morning,
-
5:16 - 5:21that we can rejoice and be glad all of our days."
-
5:21 - 5:24How do I overcome? It's because I'm weak!
-
5:24 - 5:26I cannot overcome in and of myself.
-
5:26 - 5:31My only hope is that I'll be satisfied through the Word of God,
-
5:31 - 5:33through prayer,
-
5:33 - 5:37through seeing Christ in those things - be satisfied in Jesus Christ -
-
5:37 - 5:41and therefore I overcome, because I'm satisfied.
-
5:41 - 5:43I don't have to go whoring after an idol.
-
5:43 - 5:45I don't have to go worship an idol.
-
5:45 - 5:46I don't have to be impatient.
-
5:46 - 5:49I don't have to go view pornography.
-
5:49 - 5:50I don't have to do those things.
-
5:50 - 5:54I don't have to worry about the approval of man
or what my friends think about me on Facebook. -
5:54 - 5:56I don't have to worry about any of that.
-
5:56 - 5:58I don't have to worry about my physical appearance.
-
5:58 - 6:00I don't have to worry about how I'm performing,
-
6:00 - 6:04because Jesus Christ, in my place, performed perfectly.
-
6:04 - 6:05That's feedom!
-
6:05 - 6:07And if you know that truth, it will set you free.
-
6:07 - 6:13And Jesus says, "Come unto Me, all who labor
and are heavy-laden, I will give you rest." (P) -
6:13 - 6:17It's not "come unto 60 days of freedom from pornography,
and then you'll have rest". -
6:17 - 6:19That's not true rest.
-
6:19 - 6:22You may pat yourself on the back and feel good about yourself
-
6:22 - 6:24when you're able to go to your accountability group that night
-
6:24 - 6:26and say, "I've been free 60 days."
-
6:26 - 6:28God's not impressed!
-
6:28 - 6:32Jesus Christ was free for all of an eternity, and He offered Himself up.
-
6:32 - 6:34That's the perfect sacrifice.
-
6:34 - 6:38And that will motivate you to submit your life as a living sacrifice to God,
-
6:38 - 6:42holy and acceptable; and to not be conformed to the world.
-
6:42 - 6:45I don't wake up today and think,
"Well, I better not look at pornography. -
6:45 - 6:48I better not make this an idol. I better not do that."
-
6:48 - 6:53I wake up today and I say this, "Where are you at, Lord? Satisfy me.
-
6:53 - 6:56Lord, open my mind, my heart, to see the wonders in your Word,
-
6:56 - 7:00to see the beauty of Christ, then I will overcome."
-
7:00 - 7:04That's my one pursuit - it's a heart burning to know Jesus Christ -
-
7:04 - 7:06and in that there's freedom.
-
7:06 - 7:09There's no other source of freedom. No other source. (P)
-
7:09 - 7:18Psalm 63, David says, "O God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You."
-
7:18 - 7:21Notice, he's not saying "I'm earnestly seeking freedom.
-
7:21 - 7:25I'm earnestly seeking to look good before my fellow man."
-
7:25 - 7:27He's not worried about those things.
-
7:27 - 7:29He's worried about seeking God.
-
7:29 - 7:33He says, "I seek You. My soul thirsts for You."
-
7:33 - 7:35His soul is not thirsting for freedom,
-
7:35 - 7:40his soul is not thirsting for a better performance,
for a hundred days of freedom; -
7:40 - 7:42his soul is seeking for God.
-
7:42 - 7:48He says, "My flesh faints for You,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. -
7:48 - 7:51So I have looked upon You."
-
7:51 - 7:53He's not looking for freedom for his joy.
-
7:53 - 7:56You see, he's not satisfied, and where is he running?
-
7:56 - 7:59"To You," to God, to Christ. It's always the answer.
-
7:59 - 8:03He says, "In the sanctuary, beholding Your power and glory."
-
8:03 - 8:07I mean, he is beholding the power and the glory of God;
-
8:07 - 8:12the power of the God who split the Red Sea
and allowed Israel to pass through it, -
8:12 - 8:15allowed them to endure through the trials.
-
8:15 - 8:18Yes, many fell away, but they made it in the end.
-
8:18 - 8:19"Few there be that find it."
-
8:19 - 8:23But I'll tell you, if you're looking to the Lord,
the hand of Him to deliver you, -
8:23 - 8:26to our God, you will find victory. (P)
-
8:26 - 8:30He says, "Because Your stedfast love is better than life."
-
8:30 - 8:32Do you believe that?
-
8:32 - 8:37Do you honestly believe that the stedfast
love of Christ is better than life? -
8:37 - 8:42That knowing Him is better than any thing in this life?
-
8:42 - 8:45He says, "My lips will praise You."
-
8:45 - 8:47So often man wants to praise themselves.
-
8:47 - 8:49They want to say, "Look what I have done, look what I have..."
-
8:49 - 8:54I'll tell you, the only reason I have victory
is because I'm so weak and helpless -
8:54 - 8:56that I realize my only hope is the Lord.
-
8:56 - 9:00And so I found myself totally cast on Christ every day.
-
9:00 - 9:04And there are days where I wasn't cast on Christ,
and idols and things crept in my life. -
9:04 - 9:06And I learned a lesson the hard way,
-
9:06 - 9:12and God disciplined me from my idolatry and other things where I got my joy. (P)
-
9:12 - 9:18He says, "So I will bless You Lord as long as I live;
in Your name I will lift up my hands." -
9:18 - 9:23And he says this, "My soul WILL be satisfied."
-
9:23 - 9:27His soul will be satisfied, not because he has gained freedom,
-
9:27 - 9:33but because he has seen Christ, because he has been satisfied in Christ.
-
9:33 - 9:40"My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise You with joyful lips, -
9:40 - 9:47when I remember You upon my bed,
and meditate on You in the watches of the night; -
9:47 - 9:49for You have been my help."
-
9:49 - 9:53I mean, I praise God that I can go home tonight by God's grace
-
9:53 - 9:55as I endure through the rest of this day,
-
9:55 - 10:01I can lay in the cot in the I'll Be Honest little office in the Grace House,
-
10:01 - 10:07and I can lay there and meditate on the Lord
and praise Him for the victory that He will give me. -
10:07 - 10:14I'm confident in Him because I know that I need
no other sacrifice than Jesus' blood and righteousness, -
10:14 - 10:17and my own performance will fail a million times over.
-
10:17 - 10:19My only hope is in the Lord.
-
10:19 - 10:23I mean, isn't it glorious to meditate on the Lord?
-
10:23 - 10:26I mean, 21 years of my life I would be meditating on lust in the night,
-
10:26 - 10:29and I'd be driving myself in misery for hours,
-
10:29 - 10:34trying to get to bed with all these daydreams and
anxious thoughts pummeling my mind. -
10:34 - 10:37And I couldn't overcome because I didn't have the beauty of the Lord.
-
10:37 - 10:42I kept trying to find victory in myself. (P)
-
10:42 - 10:48"My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me."
-
10:48 - 10:51That's my only hope. Is that yours? Is that yours?
-
10:51 - 10:55I've been getting e-mails from hundreds of you guys out there
-
10:55 - 10:57who are saying you're addicted to pornography.
-
10:57 - 11:03I'll tell you, the Lord's right hand upholds me, that's my only hope. That's it.
-
11:03 - 11:05It sounds so simple, doesn't it?
-
11:05 - 11:12But Luke 18:17 says, "Unless you receive the
kingdom of heaven as a child, you will not enter it." -
11:12 - 11:15A child is helpless. They're totally cast on Christ.
-
11:15 - 11:18They know their only hope of redemption,
their only hope of freedom, -
11:18 - 11:20is in the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
11:20 - 11:23They don't wake up and rely on themselves and relying on their father.
-
11:23 - 11:27And that's where my hope is; my reliance is my Father in Heaven.
-
11:27 - 11:31The only way out of victory is in the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone.
-
11:31 - 11:34Go there, and you will find victory.
-
11:34 - 11:40Go to the arm of your flesh and rely on that,
and you'll fail, time and time again. -
11:40 - 11:47And my friend, beware of practicing your righteousness,
not only to be seen by men, -
11:47 - 11:50but to think that on Judgment Day you're going to stand before God
-
11:50 - 11:53and say, "God, look what I have done."
-
11:53 - 11:56God is not impressed with 100 days of freedom.
-
11:56 - 11:58God is not impressed with 10 years of freedom.
-
11:58 - 12:03God is impressed with one thing: the perfect life of Jesus Christ
-
12:03 - 12:09and His sacrifice of Himself to atone for sinners' sins on that Cross.
-
12:09 - 12:13He gave Himself up to set you free. (P)
-
12:14 - 12:20"If anyone has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed" (1 Corinth. 16:22).

Why is it that so many people are running to pornography and masturbation? It's because they're not satisfied in Christ. This is what leads a person to prostitute themselves to an idol. Are you falling into sexual sin? or any sin for that matter, and want freedom? Do not pursue freedom but pursue Christ and you will find yourself satisfied in the Lord to were you will have freedom, from whatever it is. If you have no love for Christ then you will be accursed. (1 Cor 16:22) The true test of whether you're a Christian or not is if you are indeed satisfied in Christ. John 17:3 says - And this is eternal life, that they KNOW you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. -- Do you know the Lord and have intimacy with Him? Then you will indeed be satisfied in Him. Glory to God!
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love.
(Psam 90:14)
My soul will be satisfied... (Psalm 63:5)
...I would satisfy you. (Psalm 81:16)
For I will satisfy the weary soul.. (Jeremiah 31:25)Psalm 63
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you(don't seek freedom); my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water(Christ is the only one who will satisfy). So I have looked upon you(Are you looking upon Him?) in the sanctuary, beholding your power(the read sea, goliath) and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life(and any idol that temps you), my lips will praise you.(do you find yourself praising God?) So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips(Psalm 51, restore joy of salvation), when I remember you upon my bed(are your thoughts held captive by the Lord when you lay in bed before you sleep?), and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand(never trust the arm of the flesh) upholds me. - Video Language:
