THRIFT HAUL & TRY ON 2018 | 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s clothes!

  • 0:02 - 0:06
    *pop noise, techno music*
  • 0:06 - 0:10
Hi! Who could it be? Annika V!
  • 0:10 - 0:13
That's me. I promise I'll never do that again...
  • 0:13 - 0:18
Hey everyone! *sing songy voice* Iiiiii wanted
to do, a little thrift haul, for you!
  • 0:18 - 0:21
Why do I have to make everything into a rhyme
    today?
  • 0:21 - 0:25
So! I have had some very very very good, thrift,
    finds, recently!
  • 0:25 - 0:28
And I wanted to show them to all of you
  • 0:28 - 0:33
These are from a couple of different places,
over the past couple of *pause* months? of...
  • 0:33 - 0:37
Goin to thrift shops, charity shops, second
hand stores, and vintage stores...and then
  • 0:37 - 0:39
    my absolute favorite items
  • 0:39 - 0:44
Let's start with accessories. My absolute
favorite thing that I have ever thrifted,
  • 0:44 - 0:45
    ever, in the world, ever...
  • 0:45 - 0:49
not only does it have a three-dimensional...
    like...
  • 0:49 - 0:56
Silicone or something beak, Luci pointed out
    that it is indeed a BACKQUACK™ or a QUACKPACK™
  • 0:56 - 0:58
whichever one you choose, it's an incredible pun.
  • 0:58 - 0:59
    "My name is Mary
  • 0:59 - 1:01
    McQuackpack, the backquack."
  • 1:01 - 1:05
*Annika again* Unfortunately THE WORST THING
    HAPPENED!
  • 1:05 - 1:11
The zip broke? It um? You know the zipper
did that thing? Where it fell off the? um...
  • 1:11 - 1:13
Zip? I don't know how to get it back on...?
  • 1:13 - 1:15
How do you got a zipper back on a zip?
  • 1:15 - 1:19
Do I have to replace the zipper entirely?
If I do that's gonna be able to work...
  • 1:19 - 1:21
But it is worth it to save Mary McQuackpack's
    LIFE.
  • 1:21 - 1:27
The second accessory I found is this fanny
    pack/bum bag
  • 1:27 - 1:32
Fanny means a different thing in the rest
of the world than it does in America, you
  • 1:32 - 1:33
    weirdos...
  • 1:33 - 1:35
I'm not good carrying weight on my shoulders
  • 1:35 - 1:41
Um, from my illness. Especially this once,
so I'm really happy that these kind of bags
  • 1:41 - 1:43
are like, you know people don't look at you
    like it
  • 1:43 - 1:45
    *noises of uncertainty*
  • 1:45 - 1:50
Some people recognize that they are a little
bit trendy some people still laugh at me,
  • 1:50 - 1:51
    but yes!
  • 1:51 - 1:54
What was I saying? It's so much easier than
carrying things on your shoulders, well for
  • 1:54 - 1:55
    me.
  • 1:55 - 1:59
It's so much easier to carry things on my
waist I feel like a cool 80s mom wearing these.
  • 1:59 - 2:04
So I must be just too enthusiastic with opening
    my...
  • 2:04 - 2:07
backpacks, because I also thrifted, this,
  • 2:07 - 2:11
    amazing acid-washed denim backpack...
  • 2:11 - 2:15
And I broke the zip. It did the exact same
thing, the zip actually came completely off
  • 2:15 - 2:16
    this one.
  • 2:16 - 2:17
Also. This was an awesome find.
  • 2:17 - 2:24
I follow, Mihna? Meena? Mina Gilligan on instagram
and apparently she made a book in 2015
  • 2:24 - 2:29
It's pretty much all about thrift shopping
    and putting cool outfits together,
  • 2:29 - 2:33
Features a bunch of her art and I think someone
brought this back to a thrift shop,
  • 2:33 - 2:38
because Mina, the author talks about how much
she loves thrift shopping and loves finding
  • 2:38 - 2:39
    gems at shops
  • 2:39 - 2:40
    and
  • 2:40 - 2:45
so I guess this was well loved and well read
and then left at the thrift shop for me to
  • 2:45 - 2:46
    find.
  • 2:46 - 2:47
    And this brooch.
  • 2:47 - 2:51
I don't think it's meant to be, but this is
like the most amazing badge for a person with
  • 2:51 - 2:53
    a chronic illness... like
  • 2:53 - 2:54
    Ever?
  • 2:54 - 2:56
Okay, that's it for the accessories onto the
    clothes!
  • 2:56 - 3:01
Okay, so the first one, that I am very excited
to tell you about, is right behind me here!
  • 3:01 - 3:07
I just got this dress yesterday, and holy
moly it is so cool!!! The dress is from the
  • 3:07 - 3:08
    70s....
  • 3:08 - 3:09
    and 100% polyester.
  • 3:09 - 3:14
I don't normally go for polyester clothes.
They usually make me way too hot and sweaty.
  • 3:14 - 3:17
    But I couldn't... I coooooo...I couldn't resist
    this...I couldn't
  • 3:17 - 3:22
Look at the color, look at the piping, look
at the drop look, LOOK AT IT!!!
  • 3:22 - 3:25
Okay, more dresses. this pinafore that I got.
It has frills. It even has pockets. POCKETS.
  • 3:25 - 3:31
*noises of happiness* it's so cuuuute I love
it I love it I love it
  • 3:31 - 3:34
    Another favorite is
  • 3:34 - 3:35
    This
  • 3:35 - 3:39
Crochet orange dress. Because it's actually
like made out of crocheted material was that
  • 3:39 - 3:40
    yarn
    wool.
  • 3:40 - 3:45
it's actually quite thick, but it's also a
short dress and also a bit see-through so
  • 3:45 - 3:47
it's a little bit difficult to um...
  • 3:47 - 3:51
Find the right situation to wear it in. I
think it's more of an autumn dress, because
  • 3:51 - 3:52
    it's actually quite heavy.
  • 3:52 - 3:57
But I'm so excited to start wearing it once
summer is over here, in Australia.
  • 3:57 - 3:58
    This crushed-velvet...um...
  • 3:58 - 4:05
[singing] Green babydoll dress is like my
    favorite thing, on earth!
  • 4:05 - 4:10
I feel like Tinkerbell when I wear this. This
is a... I don't know if you could see it in
  • 4:10 - 4:13
    the camera -
    It's a dress with a short,
  • 4:13 - 4:19
maybe like a princess waist? The high up waist
with a velvet top and cute flowy
  • 4:19 - 4:25
chiffon bottom, it's the perfect party dress.
Someone invite me to a party so I can wear
  • 4:25 - 4:29
    this baby.
This dress that I got is the most fancy freaking
  • 4:29 - 4:33
    thing that I've ever owned
and I got it for five dollars secondhand from
  • 4:33 - 4:37
a market stall. It's got this cool, split
    leg action going on.
  • 4:37 - 4:44
    This is an incredible sheer,
floral body contouring dress and it's stretchy,
  • 4:44 - 4:49
and it looks really good with like a beige
slip underneath, and again this was
  • 4:49 - 4:52
$5 from a market stall. Go to flea markets
    people!
  • 4:52 - 4:55
    They're the greatest!
Look at the print on this dress
  • 4:55 - 5:00
It is so pretty, it is one of my favorite
finds, but I just don't think it super suits
  • 5:00 - 5:01
    me
    I don't know
  • 5:01 - 5:07
I just been kind of off wearing circle-y circle
skirt dresses at the moment so I might be
  • 5:07 - 5:12
    taking this one back
to another thrift store for someone to chance
  • 5:12 - 5:16
upon and find and fall in love with because
    I think someone
  • 5:16 - 5:20
could love this a lot more than I can.
Now I'm probably gonna show you about a million
  • 5:20 - 5:27
    stripy t-shirts, so let's go.
This is my favourite top find I think of this
  • 5:27 - 5:31
whole. Rainbow colored stuff is something
    that I have been
  • 5:31 - 5:34
really loving a lot lately, and this one is
like a like a pink rainbow.
  • 5:34 - 5:38
    I mean, there's like there's four different
shades of pink in there, and it's stripy and
  • 5:38 - 5:43
    it's got its contrasting hem
It's the best! It goes with everything and
  • 5:43 - 5:48
I love it. Yeah. This is a cute cute thing
    that I found
  • 5:48 - 5:52
Mmm. Maybe like four months ago
    Yes a nice big
  • 5:52 - 5:56
oversized tee so it's cute to tie up or leave
down and tuck in and wear loose
  • 5:56 - 6:00
with this awesome like Fresh Prince of Bel
    Air print.
  • 6:00 - 6:05
This stripey crop top that I found reminds
me of like vintage Barbie, and I found this
  • 6:05 - 6:09
    really unusual,
that's super... I decided super cool,
  • 6:09 - 6:13
T-shirt that looks like it has kind of like
    a vest leotard on it,
  • 6:13 - 6:17
    but it's really nice.
And just the other day. I found this old super
  • 6:17 - 6:21
    hot pink
Nike top, and I just really liked the colour.
  • 6:21 - 6:27
This is a super cute little cropped top
I actually think it has long sleeves at one
  • 6:27 - 6:30
point because, unless this brand just like
    sucks,
  • 6:30 - 6:35
the edges are all wonky and weird and raw
    and... eugh.
  • 6:35 - 6:40
But you can't tell, and it's very very nice.
It has a very cute flower or floral...
  • 6:40 - 6:45
It has a very cute floral print.
And this is one of my favourites
  • 6:45 - 6:51
I got this yesterday from a vintage store.
    It's a German t-shirt from the 70s
  • 6:51 - 6:57
    umm, with stripy
sleeves! So it's like a baseball playing turkey
  • 6:57 - 7:00
on the front and it says in German
    ...no, I'm not...
  • 7:00 - 7:06
I'm not gonna try and say that, but it means
'hit the drums', or when I put it through
  • 7:06 - 7:08
    Google Translate,
'today, let's hit the timpani!' But I asked
  • 7:08 - 7:12
some german-speaking people what that means
and apparently it means like, yeah go for
  • 7:12 - 7:15
    it!
Let's go! Like someone told me, umm
  • 7:15 - 7:19
that's something only your parents would probably
say so it's like the equivalent in English
  • 7:19 - 7:23
    of being like yeah,
groovy man! Which I just think is
  • 7:23 - 7:29
so good. And and and! A little like attached
    googly eye
  • 7:29 - 7:32
    Yeah, I'm into real
    just silly s*** huh?
  • 7:32 - 7:38
I got this super nice knitted
singlet top, it's actually very lightweight
  • 7:38 - 7:43
and like perfect for summer. It's so nice
I've been wearing it like every day, so comfortable,
  • 7:43 - 7:47
don't have to wear a bra!
Ah, so good. In this cute strappy strap strappy
  • 7:47 - 7:50
strap strappy top, but how does this work?
I had it on the other day?
  • 7:50 - 7:54
I swear I know how to... future Annika take
it away with the figuring out of how it works!
  • 7:54 - 8:00
And I also got this baby yesterday. It's very
cute. It's very simple, but it just fit really
  • 8:00 - 8:04
    well and I like it
I've also picked up quite a few sweaters recently
  • 8:04 - 8:08
which is wholly inappropriate for living in
Australia, and it being summer right now
  • 8:08 - 8:12
But I'll be able to wear it in like six months.
So it still has the price tag on it, this
  • 8:12 - 8:19
one, this is a vintage Adidas sweater,
With like embroidered on, stitched on lettering,
  • 8:19 - 8:23
A sweater with a rainbow appliqued onto it.
    This was only $10
  • 8:23 - 8:29
And yep, yep, I was just like yes please
and it kind of reminds me of brands like Lazy
  • 8:29 - 8:32
Oaf or Big Brud *makes mistake saying name
of store* Brother Big Bud press.
  • 8:32 - 8:37
But this, this is gonna be my favourite in
winter. It's all like soft and fleecy inside
  • 8:37 - 8:43
    and everything.
Okay, I got this light denim jacket for how
  • 8:43 - 8:45
    much?
    Was it $3?
  • 8:45 - 8:48
    No! Cheaper
    $2? Nope cheaper!
  • 8:48 - 8:54
    $1.50? Uh uh, even cheaper.
    $1? Yup! This was $1. $1!
  • 8:54 - 8:59
Wah, it is so, so, so, so, so nice
Again, haven't been able to wear it 'coz summer
  • 8:59 - 9:01
    -
But it's gonna be like everyday on my body
  • 9:01 - 9:02
    when it's wintertime!
  • 9:02 - 9:07
I love this swimsuit to pieces, but you're
gonna laugh so much when you see it.
  • 9:07 - 9:11
So the one real big drawback of this is that
    it's a swimsuit,
  • 9:11 - 9:15
But it's not made for swimming so this thing
on the shoulder makes it impossible to move,
  • 9:15 - 9:21
it makes it impossible for me to move my arm,
so while I love the ruffly one-shoulder
  • 9:21 - 9:28
goodness, like, so much, I am considering
using the fabric to turn it into a one-piece
  • 9:28 - 9:33
instead because it's already got like built-in
cups, like I'd only need to just copy that
  • 9:33 - 9:37
side of the neckline over, maybe re-think
the frills or put them elsewhere…
  • 9:37 - 9:40
[singing] Pants pants pants pants pants pants
    pants pants pants pants!
  • 9:40 - 9:47
    I got theeeese like loose-fitting pastel-pink
couduroy pants in Japan, with an elasticated
  • 9:47 - 9:51
waist band, and they are the comfiest thing
that I have ever owned - actually no wait!
  • 9:51 - 9:56
THESE are the comfiest pants I have ever owned!
These are like - accordian pleats?
  • 9:56 - 10:00
I don't know, what do you call that like,
    teensy tiny pleating on material?
  • 10:00 - 10:03
Maybe it’s something even smaller than an
    accordion?
  • 10:03 - 10:08
They’re just loose-fitting, like silky black
pants, also with an elastic waistband for
  • 10:08 - 10:11
    MAXIMUM COMFORT!
Some of my favourite pants that I’ve ever
  • 10:11 - 10:18
found are these jeans that have bears on them!
Not only is it super cute, but I can also
  • 10:18 - 10:23
when I'm wearing them I can say, “bear butt!
Bear butt! I have a bear butt!”
  • 10:23 - 10:26
‘Coz I’m 5 years old and that joke cracks
    me up everytime!
  • 10:26 - 10:30
    Shorts!
Looking this cutie patootie pair of acid-washed
  • 10:30 - 10:35
    shorts that I've got
From a very cool vintage shop in Japan. These
  • 10:35 - 10:42
cute high-waisted shorts have this adorable
paper-bag waist feature on them, and oh, I
  • 10:42 - 10:45
    love them so much!
I think it can be difficult sometimes for
  • 10:45 - 10:49
paper bag waists to look nice and not just
like a bunch of like extra fabric all up in
  • 10:49 - 10:52
there - but I think these one strike the balance
really well. And the shorts that I'm wearing
  • 10:52 - 10:57
today are a Ralph Lauren that I got for $5!
    Mmm, so fancy!
  • 10:57 - 11:03
This is like, the cutest, bestest romper that
    I’ve ever found!
  • 11:03 - 11:10
This romper is one of my favorite comfy faves.
It's got a little floral print all across
  • 11:10 - 11:14
it. What's this collar sleeve called? Princess
Anne? Queen Anne? Some royal - something something
  • 11:14 - 11:19
royal! So it looks really good when it’s
worn on its own, or with like a t-shirt underneath,
  • 11:19 - 11:25
and it's really really really soooo comfortable.
I think with my clothes, I’ve decided that
  • 11:25 - 11:28
the more comfortable, the better lately!
  • 11:28 - 11:32
Now this used to be one of my largest categories
of things that I would look for thrift shops,
  • 11:32 - 11:37
but now, ehh, I’m just not that into wearing
skirts at the moment, but this long flowy
  • 11:37 - 11:45
skirt is 100% silk, and it also has like this
sunflower print all over it… it kind of
  • 11:45 - 11:49
looks more like daisies ‘coz it's like the
coloring of daisies, but it's the shape of
  • 11:49 - 11:53
sunflowers so - I don't know what it is. Don't
yell at me in the comments cuz I got a flower
  • 11:53 - 11:55
    wrong!
But it's got all these like extra bits of
  • 11:55 - 12:02
like panels in the skirt to make it really
really amazing and flowy and makes you want
  • 12:02 - 12:04
to spin around all the time when you're wearing
    it.
  • 12:04 - 12:07
Is that it? IS THAT IT?
  • 12:07 - 12:09
No wait, that's not it. Hang on.
  • 12:09 - 12:17
I've got some hats to show you, you think
I'm gonna forget about the hats?
  • 12:17 - 12:20
    Hat number one…
  • 12:20 - 12:21
    [silence]
  • 12:21 - 12:26
All the hats. And last section [drum roll
    imitation]
  • 12:26 - 12:30
TOYS! This audio is probably, like, copyright
protected so this video will get demonetized.
  • 12:30 - 12:36
But I need to show you I got a Finn and a
Jake and they talk. They talk.
  • 12:36 - 12:38
    [Toy Finn speaks]
  • 12:38 - 12:40
    Alright Finn.
  • 12:40 - 12:43
    [Toy Jake speaks]
  • 12:43 - 12:50
They're being so rude to me! And that is my
thrift haul from the last couple of months.
  • 12:50 - 12:51
In the past when we went thrift shopping
  • 12:51 - 12:56
I used to just kind of go through all the
cheapest bins and find the cheapest clothes
  • 12:56 - 12:57
    and just get like,
  • 12:57 - 13:02
A mountain of super, super cheap clothing,
and usually not that well-made clothing and,
  • 13:02 - 13:03
    well, the reason
  • 13:03 - 13:08
It's cheap, but more recently. I've been kind
of... I've been kind of like that is still
  • 13:08 - 13:10
    a sort of a fast-fashion
  • 13:10 - 13:14
Mentality to have towards fashion. Sure, I'm
not buying the clothing new and it still supports
  • 13:14 - 13:17
a charity, but I'm still going through the
    clothes
  • 13:17 - 13:22
At such a rapid rate where I'm like "I need
more all the time, and I'm not satisfied
  • 13:22 - 13:25
By the things I have". I'm not even wearing
some of the things that I have much, before
  • 13:25 - 13:28
bringing them back to the thrift shop.
  • 13:28 - 13:30
So lately have been picking, uhm,
  • 13:30 - 13:33
fewer pieces, but that are just slightly better
    quality,
  • 13:33 - 13:34
    maybe just like a
  • 13:34 - 13:38
slightly more expensive. Like, I used to scoff
at things that were more than ten dollars
  • 13:38 - 13:39
    in thrift shops
  • 13:39 - 13:43
But now if they are actually good quality,
because some things can just be way too over
  • 13:43 - 13:45
priced, but if they are good quality
  • 13:45 - 13:49
    I'm like hell-yeah, I'm gonna take this, I'm
gonna love it for years and honestly
  • 13:49 - 13:54
it's really made me feel a lot happier with
my style, with my wardrobe. Yeah
  • 13:54 - 13:57
I'm not saying one way is necessarily better
than the other, but that's just, that's just
  • 13:57 - 13:58
    what I've been doing lately
  • 13:58 - 13:59
    So let me know
  • 13:59 - 14:03
What is the most awesome thing that you have
ever found on a thrifting exhibition [expedition]
  • 14:03 - 14:04
    all these items are awesome,
  • 14:04 - 14:09
but they probably still can't beat the little
purse. I have that is shaped like a house.
  • 14:09 - 14:14
I had to go find it, so I could show you all.
    It's a purse
  • 14:14 - 14:15
