finals week skillshare

  • 0:11 - 0:16
came to the library to study today
  • 0:21 - 0:26
    Tea time
  • 0:39 - 0:44
    Free snacks heh
  • 1:01 - 1:04
My first final exam is tomorrow.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
I have 7 finals in total.
  • 1:09 - 1:10
Exporting my lecture notes to Notability
  • 1:21 - 1:25
These are all of my objectives notes that I took.
  • 1:25 - 1:27
Just going to go through this a couple of times
  • 1:27 - 1:30
and I think I might call it a night after that.
  • 1:30 - 1:34
I saw a huge spider literally this big.
  • 1:34 - 1:35
    I couldn't catch it.
  • 1:35 - 1:36
I'm in my bedroom right now
  • 1:36 - 1:38
and now I don't know where it is
  • 1:38 - 1:40
It might be on on my bed.
  • 1:40 - 1:42
That's going to keep me awake.
  • 1:42 - 1:48
I need to get 4 pathology questions right to pass the course.
  • 1:48 - 1:50
    4 out of 27
  • 1:50 - 1:53
There's no way I’m not getting at least 4 right.
  • 1:53 - 1:58
So, that's okay. I need to get 2 out of 36 clinical questions right
  • 1:58 - 2:00
    I'm okay with that.
  • 2:00 - 2:02
    The catch here is microbio
  • 2:02 - 2:05
    I need to get 8
  • 2:05 - 2:08
out of 17 of those questions right
  • 2:08 - 2:09
    That's scary
  • 2:09 - 2:11
I am not down to remediate anything.
  • 2:11 - 2:15
This exam is the only one that I'm scared about failing.
  • 2:15 - 2:18
The other 6 exams I'm not worried about failing those,
  • 2:18 - 2:20
    but they're just stressful because
  • 2:20 - 2:22
they're practicals and I still have to practice for them,
  • 2:22 - 2:24
Basically, how practicals work is that
  • 2:24 - 2:26
you work with a standardized patient.
  • 2:26 - 2:28
They present with a chief complaint
  • 2:28 - 2:31
and then you do a focused history and physical to figure out
  • 2:31 - 2:33
your working diagnosis and 3 differential diagnoses
  • 2:33 - 2:37
and then from there, we would have to present our findings to
  • 2:37 - 2:40
    the preceptor, including treatment options
  • 2:40 - 2:42
like medications, imaging, labs , etc.
  • 2:42 - 2:45
The patient is going to present with fatigue (for this practical)
  • 2:45 - 2:48
and it's so stressful because there are so many
  • 2:48 - 2:50
    possible differentials for fatigue.
  • 2:50 - 2:54
Fatigue? Omg, do you have sleep apnea?
  • 2:54 - 2:56
    Do you have leukemia?
  • 2:56 - 2:58
But anyway, you guys, after this final exam,
  • 2:58 - 3:01
I'm not going to be using any of my brain cells
  • 3:01 - 3:04
this summer break is for no brain cell activities.
  • 3:04 - 3:07
I'm going to be sleeping. Hibernating.
  • 3:07 - 3:11
Should I even bother studying for anything other than microbio right now?
  • 3:11 - 3:16
Because this Google doc is 32 pages long.
  • 3:16 - 3:18
Maybe I should just go to sleep right now.
  • 3:18 - 3:20
No, that's definitely not a good idea.
  • 3:20 - 3:23
Dude, renal is supposed to be my favorite system.
  • 3:23 - 3:25
    What’s going onnn
  • 3:28 - 3:31
    Morning of exam
  • 3:38 - 3:40
microbio stuff that I need to cram.
  • 3:40 - 3:43
I took this to New York and back.
  • 3:43 - 3:44
This has been through a lot.
  • 3:55 - 3:59
    No more energy to study
  • 4:04 - 4:05
    I passed.
  • 4:07 - 4:09
I got all of the microbio questions right.
  • 4:09 - 4:11
I didn't even need to worry about that.
  • 4:11 - 4:13
    50%? Ha, easyyyy
  • 4:13 - 4:16
now I have 6 more exams to go.
  • 4:22 - 4:23
Now that today's exam is over,
  • 4:23 - 4:25
I'm feeling a lot more at ease.
  • 4:27 - 4:31
I'm going to go to campus soon to practice for the practicals I have tomorrow.
  • 4:31 - 4:34
I'm not super stressed out about them anymore.
  • 4:34 - 4:35
    I'm kind of just like
  • 4:35 - 4:37
it is what it is. It’s whatever.
  • 4:37 - 4:39
For the first practical I have this semester,
  • 4:39 - 4:43
I was very underprepared. It wasn't my best performance
  • 4:43 - 4:46
and then I ended up overpreparing for my second practical.
  • 4:46 - 4:47
    The outcome is the same.
  • 4:47 - 4:49
    I'm still passing, regardless.
  • 4:49 - 4:52
So for this practical, I'm just going to prepare enough for me
  • 4:52 - 4:54
to feel confident in myself going in, but
  • 4:54 - 4:58
I'm not going to stay up trying to memorize every single thing.
  • 4:58 - 5:01
I have a very bad stomach ache right now.
  • 5:01 - 5:03
    Hot girls have stomach issues.
  • 5:03 - 5:07
I’ve been sitting here because my stomach hurts so bad.
  • 5:09 - 5:11
I feel so underprepared for this practical.
  • 5:11 - 5:14
    It's actually terrifying.
  • 5:29 - 5:29
    help
  • 5:32 - 5:35
I only prepared for a handful of diagnoses last night
  • 5:35 - 5:36
    cuz I was too tired
  • 5:36 - 5:39
I'm just hoping I get one of those.
  • 5:43 - 5:45
Thank you to Skillshare for sponsoring this video.

  • 5:55 - 5:57
a lot of medical students, including myself,
  • 5:57 - 6:00
use Anki to study for exams and prep for boards.
  • 6:00 - 6:03
Although I've been using Anki for over a year now,
  • 6:03 - 6:05
there is quite a learning curve to the study tool,
  • 6:05 - 6:08
so I never got the chance to fully master it beyond the basic functions
  • 6:08 - 6:10
Luckily, I was able able to find a class on Skillshare
  • 6:10 - 6:13
that covers everything you need to know about this software,
  • 6:13 - 6:16
including the optimal settings to have for medical school
  • 6:16 - 6:18
and how to create your own flash cards to study with
  • 6:18 - 6:19
    With summer break coming up,
  • 6:19 - 6:22
I'm excited to use skillshare to build healthy study habits
  • 6:22 - 6:23
    and explore new productivity skills
  • 6:23 - 6:26
that will better prepare me for the new school year in the fall.
  • 6:26 - 6:27
There are also tons of classes that can help
  • 6:27 - 6:29
    you build your small business
  • 6:29 - 6:31
    or explore new creative skills,
  • 6:31 - 6:32
so if you want to spend this upcoming summer
  • 6:32 - 6:34
investing time into yourself and your goals,
  • 6:34 - 6:37

  • 6:39 - 6:42
will receive a 1 month free trial of Skillshare.
  • 6:42 - 6:43
    Get started today.
  • 6:43 - 6:44
    I'm so devastated right now.
  • 6:44 - 6:47
I was able to come up with my diagnosis
  • 6:47 - 6:48
pretty early on in the practical,
  • 6:48 - 6:51
which is good cuz then I can start thinking about
  • 6:51 - 6:53
what tests I'm going to do for the physical exam so
  • 6:53 - 6:56
everything was good. I had enough time to finish everything.
  • 6:56 - 6:58
We're given a piece of paper to take notes on
  • 6:58 - 7:00
and also just gather our thoughts
  • 7:00 - 7:04
before we formally present everything to the faculty.
  • 7:04 - 7:07
They tell us when we have 6 minutes left on the clock.
  • 7:07 - 7:10
That's when students usually start start talking.
  • 7:10 - 7:14
But then last time, I regretted not spending enough time on
  • 7:14 - 7:16
gathering my thoughts before making my presentation
  • 7:16 - 7:18
because there were things that I remembered in hindsight
  • 7:18 - 7:20
that I could add to my presentation,
  • 7:20 - 7:23
so this time, I took my time formulating my thoughts
  • 7:23 - 7:26
before I started presenting, but I ran out of time.
  • 7:26 - 7:27
But it makes sense that I ran out of time
  • 7:27 - 7:28
because I was spending the extra time
  • 7:28 - 7:30
adding more to my presentation which would make it longer.
  • 7:30 - 7:32
I had more labs to order, more medications and stuff to talk about.
  • 7:32 - 7:33
I should have known to start earlier
  • 7:33 - 7:35
It’s frustrating knowing that I could have done better
  • 7:35 - 7:38
but I wasn't able to bc I was just like in my own head.
  • 7:41 - 7:43
    little kith from cat 😽
  • 7:51 - 7:54
I'm just going to air fry some tofu for dinner.
  • 8:12 - 8:13
I took a nap I still have my coffee from
  • 8:13 - 8:15
I still have my coffee from the morning.
  • 8:15 - 8:17
After I filmed the no caffeine challenge,
  • 8:17 - 8:20
I honestly don't even crave caffeine as much as I used to.
  • 8:20 - 8:24
This was my only cup of coffee or source of caffeine
  • 8:24 - 8:26
and I didn't even finish it.
  • 8:26 - 8:26
    Who am I?
  • 8:26 - 8:29
I mean that's probably why I slept for so long though.
  • 8:29 - 8:32
If I wanted to stay awake, I would have had to have coffee.
  • 8:35 - 8:36
    nice
  • 8:38 - 8:39
    nice
  • 8:48 - 8:50
    stop being tired
  • 8:50 - 8:53
I got a restock of energy drinks from Alani.
  • 8:55 - 9:00
I have 3 more exams left and all of these are didactic exams.
  • 9:00 - 9:00
    Thank God.
  • 9:00 - 9:03
I literally cannot do another practical.
  • 9:03 - 9:07
Now I just need to go through a bunch of practice problems and
  • 9:07 - 9:09
    everything will be good.
  • 9:09 - 9:11
One of the exams, I have to pass.
  • 9:11 - 9:13
The other exam I don’t really have to pass.
  • 9:13 - 9:17
and then the last one on friday, I have to pass, I think.
  • 9:17 - 9:19
But, I'm not too stressed out about it.
  • 9:25 - 9:28
    Time to take another exam
  • 9:38 - 9:40
I took an exam this morning.
  • 9:40 - 9:44
I've been really bad at vlogging myself studying,
  • 9:44 - 9:47
but I did stay up until like 3am studying last night.
  • 9:47 - 9:49
    I feel like I overstudied.
  • 9:49 - 9:51
I have another exam in the afternoon.
  • 9:51 - 9:54
I think it's only like 1% of our grade.
  • 9:54 - 9:57
I am going to check real quick
  • 9:57 - 10:02
and see if I actually have to take this because
  • 10:02 - 10:04
I have a feeling it's going to be a long exam
  • 10:04 - 10:08
and I'd rather just give up the 1% and not go
  • 10:08 - 10:11
and start studying for my exam tomorrow
  • 10:11 - 10:13
cuz I haven't started studying for that exam
  • 10:13 - 10:14
and I’m more worried about that.
  • 10:14 - 10:18
At this point, I'm not even excited for summer break anymore.
  • 10:18 - 10:22
I need at least a week to emotionally recover from this first year
  • 10:22 - 10:26
and then maybe I'll start feeling a little bit more alive
  • 10:26 - 10:28
and more excited for summer break
  • 10:28 - 10:32
but as of right now, I look forward to nothing in life.
  • 10:32 - 10:34
    I don’t- I don't care.
  • 10:34 - 10:36
Guys, worst case scenario happened to me.
  • 10:36 - 10:39
My laptop died halfway through my exam.
  • 10:39 - 10:41
I didn’t have my charger with me.
  • 10:41 - 10:44
That was my fault. I should have known to bring my charger.
  • 10:44 - 10:47
I had to borrow my professor's MacBook charger.
  • 10:47 - 10:49
He was like, “Please give it back to me”
  • 10:49 - 10:51
I'm just like emptying out my fridge at this point.
  • 10:51 - 10:53
I have some egg whites and these umm…
  • 10:54 - 10:57
I actually don't know what these are, but they're…
  • 10:57 - 10:58
    They taste good!
  • 10:58 - 11:00
    I have some barbecue sauce
  • 11:04 - 11:08
These were actually mushroom patties (?)
  • 11:16 - 11:21
Going through my notes and ppt slides
  • 11:32 - 11:34
    last final exam
  • 11:34 - 11:38
I never look this put together to go to school
  • 11:38 - 11:41
but I'm like actually not in a hoodie today.
  • 11:44 - 11:45
    Let's go!
  • 11:45 - 11:49
That was actually a pretty rough exam.
  • 11:49 - 11:51
    I passed but it was…
  • 11:51 - 11:54
    not a good score lol
  • 11:54 - 11:55
I think I studied the wrong material.
  • 11:55 - 11:57
I decided to skip a few lectures,
  • 11:57 - 12:01
but those two lectures were very high yield
  • 12:01 - 12:04
and I guessed on like half the questions
  • 12:04 - 12:06
    but I still passed
  • 12:06 - 12:08
Cheers to finishing my first year of med school 👍
  • 12:08 - 12:10
Thank you for coming along this journey with me :)
