-
Open gloving is performed for procedures where sterile gloves are required, but not a surgical gown.
-
Remember that even scrubbed hands are not sterile,
-
and therefore must not touch the outside surface of the gloves.
-
Gently pull the outside wrapper apart to expose the inner glove wrapper.
-
Remove the paper and gloves.
-
Without reaching over the sterile gloves,
-
carefully open the paper without touching the inside of the paper.
-
The paper is folded to facilitate opening.
-
With the left hand, grasp the right glove by the folded cuff,
-
so that your hand is touching the inside of the glove.
-
Remove it from the pack without touching the outside of the glove.
-
Slide the right hand into the glove and leave the cuff folded.
-
To pick up the left glove, slide the gloved fingers of your right hand under the folded glove cuff.
-
Take care not to touch the inside of the left glove with the right hand.
-
You might need to extend your right thumb to keep it out of the way.
-
Slide the left hand into the glove and carefully pull the cuff over the wrist
-
using the fingers of the right hand that were previously placed under the folded glove cuff.
-
With the left hand, finish putting on the right glove
-
by inserting the gloved fingers of the left hand under the right glove cuff
-
and turning the cuff of the glove over the wrist.
-
Finally, adjust the gloves so they fit properly.
