May 4 - Feeding the 800,000

  • 0:05 - 0:07
    Greetings from Bangladesh.
  • 0:07 - 0:10
I'm here today as we're doing
    a food distribution
  • 0:10 - 0:12
    to the Rohingya refugee camp.
  • 0:12 - 0:15
This week, we'll be providing food,
  • 0:15 - 0:18
and I've just been to another camp
    where we're providing shelter.
  • 0:18 - 0:21
    As I've sit here,
and I look at the needs that exist
  • 0:21 - 0:25
and I feel the pride that comes to me
as I see the staff at work,
  • 0:25 - 0:28
it reminds me of the great work
    that ADRA does.
  • 0:48 - 0:50
As I pass through this camp,
  • 0:50 - 0:54
and I'm reminded of the ingenuity
    of the Rohingya people,
  • 0:54 - 0:56
    their ability to survive
  • 0:56 - 1:00
and still etch out some kind of a living
    in these difficult conditions,
  • 1:00 - 1:03
    and I came across here
    with this fish market.
  • 1:03 - 1:07
As I looked at the fish market,
it reminded me of the story in the Bible
  • 1:07 - 1:10
of the five loaves and the two fishes,
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    where the people were hungry
    and they came to Christ.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
He blessed the food and he multiplied it.
  • 1:16 - 1:21
    We are distributing food
    to 19,000 families.
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    That's around about
    a hundred thousand people.
  • 1:24 - 1:27
But all up, there's 800,000 people
    in these refugee camps--
  • 1:27 - 1:30
    all of them hungry,
all of them in need of a blessing,
  • 1:30 - 1:32
all of them in need of a miracle.
  • 1:33 - 1:37
    And perhaps it reminds me
that maybe, we can be that miracle.
  • 1:37 - 1:40
    That through our generosity,
that we can help to multiply this fish,
  • 1:40 - 1:44
that we can help to bring food
    to the starving people
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    here amongst these Rohingya camps.
  • 1:46 - 1:47
It's a great honor and privilege
  • 1:47 - 1:50
to be able to feed 100,000 people
    this week,
  • 1:50 - 1:52
bringing them food for two weeks.
  • 1:52 - 1:54
But what about beyond those two weeks,
  • 1:54 - 1:56
    and what about those
    who we're yet to touch?
  • 1:57 - 2:00
And so, as I'm reminded of the way
that God blessed in the Bible,
  • 2:00 - 2:04
I'm reminded that He is still a God
    that blesses today,
  • 2:04 - 2:06
    that He's placed us here
with a reason and a purpose.
  • 2:06 - 2:09
    I'm also reminded
of the "Woman at the Well"
  • 2:09 - 2:10
    where she met Jesus.
  • 2:10 - 2:13
    He offered her the water
    that shall never run dry.
  • 2:13 - 2:16
    In this particular refugee camp,
  • 2:16 - 2:18
    we have a difficulty
    with the supply of water.
  • 2:18 - 2:21
    At the refugee camp
    that I visited yesterday,
  • 2:21 - 2:23
    it was more inland,
and there was a number of wells.
  • 2:23 - 2:26
But if we sink wells in this region,
  • 2:26 - 2:29
where we're close to the coast
all that we get is salty water
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    which is not drinkable.
  • 2:31 - 2:34
And so we're dependent upon shipping
    by gravity-fed water system,
  • 2:34 - 2:39
piping water from the mountains nearby
to try and bring clean water.
  • 2:39 - 2:42
    But unfortunately, the water supply
    is not adequate,
  • 2:42 - 2:45
    and so we actually have
a water shortage in this camp--
  • 2:45 - 2:48
    around a hundred thousand people,
  • 2:48 - 2:50
and we have a great need for water.
  • 2:50 - 2:53
And so just as we need
to provide people with the water,
  • 2:53 - 2:56
    water from the well
    that should never run dry,
  • 2:56 - 2:59
    we also need water here
    because water is life.
  • 3:00 - 3:02
Before we can talk to them
    about life in general,
  • 3:02 - 3:04
we have to meet their needs,
  • 3:04 - 3:07
and thirst is a very real need
of the people here in this camp.
  • 3:07 - 3:10
And so I'd just ask you
to be generous in your support
  • 3:10 - 3:12
    for ADRA in this work,
  • 3:12 - 3:15
as we try and help these people
    who have suffered much,
  • 3:15 - 3:16
    who've suffered much trauma,
  • 3:16 - 3:20
have been driven from their homes
    where they had comfort,
  • 3:20 - 3:21
    where they had businesses,
  • 3:21 - 3:24
    driven with automatic weapons
    fired at them,
  • 3:24 - 3:26
losing family members as they fled,
  • 3:26 - 3:30
    and now they come here
to a situation of dire need.
