-
Hello everyone!
-
Today I'd like to talk about
-
how to draw oil paintings on an iPad!
-
Sorry it's been a while!
-
I was feeling really sick...
-
It's been a week since I last uploaded,
-
so I'm going to give it all I've got!
-
Now about the app we're using today:
-
it's actually one that a viewer taught me about.
-
We're using an app called "Art Set 4".
-
With this app here,
-
you can draw some super realistic oil paintings.
-
I was super surprised the first time I used it.
-
There are other apps that let you do oil,
-
and Procreate is actually one of them.
-
But this app is very realistic;
-
so realistic that you almost can't compare the two.
-
So I'd like to talk about it today.
-
Now let's begin!
-
Now a bit about Art Set 4:
-
you can actually download it for free!
-
You can download it for free,
-
but the functionality in the free version is a bit limited.
-
In terms of brushes,
-
there are around 30 different options.
-
But the free version only has around ten, I think.
-
Just what's at the top of the menu here.
-
So to get more brushes to use
-
and to use the layer functionality, you have to have the full version.
-
If you need that sort of functionality,
-
you will need to pay.
-
But it's just one payment of 1200 yen ($12 USD)
-
to buy the full version.
-
I used the free version a bunch of times,
-
but started thinking it was a bit limited, so I bought the paid version.
-
What I want to introduce today
-
is the brush in the menu labelled "oil pen".
-
This one has a really *solid* feel to it.
-
When you layer it and look, it really looks 3D!
-
That's what the oil pen does.
-
Today, I'm going to show you it by drawing a picture.
-
Now the oil pen we're using
-
is one that's included in the free version.
-
If you're interested, download the free version and give it a shot!
-
Now from here on we're going to draw our picture.
-
We actually have two pictures we're drawing today.
-
One will be a really orthodox apple portrait.
-
The other will be of a Tabasco bottle.
-
For the first picture, the apple,
-
we'll be drawing that one with only the free version.
-
For the second one, the Tabasco one,
-
we'll use the paid functions--layers and many different brushes.
-
See if you can spot the difference.
-
We're going to choose the oil pen
-
and use the red colour to just kind of fill it in.
-
Look at that... isn't it cool?
-
Can you see it? How solid and real it looks.
-
Where the colours overlap on the page
-
it gets kind of lumpy.
-
This is super realistic! Give it a touch.
-
And the more the colours overlap like so,
-
the more it bulges--and what's more,
-
if you colour over one colour with another colour,
-
the way they blend together looks super realistic too.
-
Like that. Isn't that awesome?
-
Now this dark part I'm colouring here
-
is going to be the apple's shadow.
-
But if you think you've painted too much,
-
you don't have to delete it with the eraser.
-
You can just colour on top of it with the original colour,
-
and adjust it that way--it looks better!
-
If you've worked with oil in the past, you'll know.
-
It's best not to erase, but to colour over as you go along.
-
Next we're going to work on the highlights.
-
I want to draw my apple so that it looks like
-
there's some sort of light hitting it from the top-left.
-
So we're going to colour that top-left part in yellow.
-
Here's a little trick for colouring:
-
try not to do whole parts with one big stroke.
-
If you just colour small parts here and there,
-
that 3D feeling that I was talking about
-
comes through a lot more clearly.
-
So don't do it all at once--just a little bit at a time.
-
If you do that, even though it's digital,
-
you can draw pictures that look really hand-drawn.
-
There's an oil brush in Procreate too,
-
as well as an acrylic brush.
-
But if you use them, you can tell that they're really two-dimensional.
-
You don't really get this patchy, realistic feeling,
-
but if you want to draw something normal
-
or something that's really plain, you can use Procreate.
-
But if you want to get this real,
-
very hand-drawn aesthetic in your oil paintings
-
then I think Art Set 4 is definitely better for that.
-
Art Set also has a watercolour brush as well,
-
and it's also super realistic! I definitely recommend.
-
And just like that, our apple is done!
-
You can see, at the end here,
-
I didn't do a great job with the shadow part.
-
But you can make something like this with ease!
-
I only used the oil brush by itself
-
to make this apple portrait you see here.
-
I only used one layer too.
-
All I did was layer the colours on the same layer.
-
Even with the free version,
-
you can do something like this, so please give it a try!
-
Now from here on in,
-
we're going to use the paid version to make a different picture
-
Next up is our Tabasco painting.
-
It's kind of weird, but I just got the strange urge to draw some Tabasco.
-
So let's do it with some flare in oil!
-
First we're going to take our black oil brush,
-
and make the entire background all black.
-
If you have the paid version,
-
it has more options to fill in the background.
-
But we want a more hand-drawn feel for our painting,
-
so I'm doing it myself on purpose.
-
Once the background's all filled in, we're going to add a layer.
-
In the bottom part here,
-
there's a plus button here--press where it says "layer".
-
Then it will show you the layer panel.
-
We add a new layer with the + button on the bottom-right.
-
Then we're going to make our rough draft of the Tabasco bottle's shape.
-
Now we've roughly got the shape like so.
-
My bottle's a bit far down on the page,
-
so I want to bring it a bit further up.
-
To do that, we're going to press the plus button I showed you earlier.
-
There's an option there called "move".
-
With that tool selected, you can move the bottle around just like this.
-
This is only in the paid version.
-
I kind of think it would be good if the free version had more functionality,
-
but this is a paid feature only.
-
Now we're going to make another layer,
-
and start really colouring things in on top.
-
I mainly want a really rough, oil-painting feel for my picture, with strong colours.
-
So I'm not worrying so much about the shape while I fill it in.
-
Next, we're going to make another new layer,
-
and draw the green label that's on the neck of the bottle like so.
-
And just like that, the bottle itself is done!
-
Just like the apple painting before,
-
I wanted to make so light is shining from the left.
-
So I put some highlights on the left side,
-
and put some shadows on the right side for that effect.
-
Lastly, we're going to add another layer on top,
-
and draw the Tabasco label in the very middle.
-
Even with the white colour in the middle here,
-
you still get that 3D feel to it.
-
The colour might be fainter, but even with white,
-
that realistic effect is still there.
-
This is completely unrelated,
-
but I really love spicy food!
-
Like Tabasco, and karashi (spicy mustard)...
-
I also love wasabi too!
-
I'm the type of person who dumps that stuff on their food.
-
And you know? Summer is starting soon.
-
I'm going to eat a lot of spicy foods and keep my energy up!
-
I've done a lot of pictures of food before,
-
but I usually only draw food that I like!
-
Like tuna, Tabasco,
-
and avocados...also hamburgers!
-
I've only ever drawn pictures of food I like,
-
so I'm trying to break out of my comfort zone a little by taking some recommendations.
-
So please leave a comment!
-
A little while ago, someone wanted me to draw a croquet.
-
So I'm thinking I'll try that next!
-
I can't wait to see your comments--I'm in your hands now!
-
And now, we're just about finished!
-
If we add some shadows to the label part here,
-
I think it'll come out looking pretty good!
-
Just like that, it's done!
-
The shape might be a little off,
-
but that contributes to the hand-drawn feel too!
-
So now we're all finished.
-
And when you zoom in a little... you see?
-
That realistic texture, like you drew it with real tools.
-
Looks hand-drawn, right? You definitely can't get this with Procreate.
-
When I saw this, I thought it was just amazing.
-
Many thanks to the person who showed me this app!
-
Please download "Art Set 4" and give it a try!
-
Next time I get in the mood to make an oil painting,
-
I think I'm going to use this app and really go at it!
-
Now the new app from Adobe, Adobe Fresco,
-
is set to come out pretty soon.
-
That also has some really good oil options.
-
So when Fresco comes out,
-
I'm going to compare it with Art Set 4 and make a video,
-
so please look forward to it!
-
That's all for today!
-
If you liked this video, please hit the "like" button!
-
Thanks so much for listening. Bye bye~!
