I want all employees around the world -
0:25 - 0:28to feel happier
and more connected at work. -
0:28 - 0:32In large corporations,
employees are often unhappy, -
0:32 - 0:36which can lead to burn-out
and even sometimes suicide. -
0:36 - 0:40One of the main reasons
is the lack of social engagement, -
0:40 - 0:43and this is what I want to fight.

0:44 - 0:49I want to share my experience
working in a big bank in Switzerland. -
0:51 - 0:52Don’t get me wrong.
-
0:52 - 0:54I love to work.
-
0:54 - 0:56But these conditions are very stressful.
-
0:56 - 0:59I had little to no free time,
-
0:59 - 1:02I cried often, and I was usually unhappy.
-
1:02 - 1:04I wasn't really meeting anyone new,
-
1:04 - 1:08and I was always with the same operants
from my department. -
1:08 - 1:11At lunch, I would always eat alone
in front of my desk -
1:11 - 1:14or with the same colleagues
from my department. -
1:14 - 1:16So, I decided to change that.
-
1:16 - 1:20I realized that if I wanted
to be happy at work, -
1:20 - 1:23I had to get to know people
from different backgrounds, -
1:23 - 1:25and understand how the company works.
-
1:25 - 1:28So, I went to different floors,
-
1:28 - 1:30and asked people randomly
to have lunch with me. -
1:30 - 1:35They were very surprised,
but most of the time they said yes. -
1:35 - 1:37Once, I had a legal issue
-
1:37 - 1:40for the wealth management project
I was working on, -
1:40 - 1:43and I thought that instead
of looking on Google for one hour, -
1:43 - 1:47why not have lunch with someone
from the legal department? -
1:47 - 1:49The next day we had lunch,
-
1:49 - 1:52the problem was solved,
and I made a new friend. -
1:52 - 1:54Colleagues from my department
started to tell me, -
1:54 - 1:56"Marie, you've just joined as an intern
-
1:56 - 1:58and you already know everyone.
-
1:58 - 2:01Can I come with you so I can also meet
new people during lunch?" -
2:01 - 2:03Of course I told them to join.
-
2:03 - 2:06And at some point, I even had lunch
with the president of the bank. -
2:06 - 2:12At the same time, I started opening
a collaborative space in Paris -
2:12 - 2:14where people from different backgrounds,
-
2:14 - 2:19like engineers, designers, and artists
come together to meet and collaborate. -
2:19 - 2:22And my motivation
for this project was simple. -
2:22 - 2:25I believe that everyone
should have the ability to create. -
2:25 - 2:29So I was flying every weekend
to make this project happen. -
2:29 - 2:31And I was very creative,
-
2:31 - 2:33I had a lot of energy.
-
2:33 - 2:36I thought that everyone should create.
-
2:38 - 2:40Creation went exponential.
-
2:40 - 2:42The more people meet,
the more they discuss, -
2:42 - 2:44the more they create.
-
2:44 - 2:48And I believe this model could also work
in banks and large corporations. -
2:48 - 2:52So, I decided to leave
the banking world and university, -
2:52 - 2:54in order to create an app,
-
2:54 - 2:58where employees can meet
and have the option to never eat alone. -
3:00 - 3:02When a company has many employees,
-
3:02 - 3:05I see this as an amazing opportunity.
-
3:05 - 3:07Let’s pause for a minute and think
-
3:07 - 3:12that the true size of the company
is not the number of employees it has, -
3:12 - 3:14but the connection between them,
-
3:14 - 3:17because this is
where the true strength resides: -
3:17 - 3:20when people connect
with each other, they do things. -
3:20 - 3:23they create things,
and potentially amazing things. -
3:23 - 3:26Big companies are starting
to take care about this. -
3:26 - 3:31When people connect, they’re
more productive and happy at work. -
3:31 - 3:35The benefits for employees
and companies are simple. -
3:35 - 3:37It improves knowledge exchange
-
3:37 - 3:43and collective intelligence
to spark innovation. -
3:43 - 3:45It improves talent retention.
-
3:45 - 3:48It improves employees'
happiness and engagement. -
3:48 - 3:52It improves
the internal professional network. -
3:53 - 3:56If big companies want
to attract the future generation, -
3:56 - 4:00they need to create a workplace
where they are happy and creative, -
4:00 - 4:05where speaking to your boss
or to someone from another department -
4:05 - 4:08is a norm rather than an exception.

How to be happier at the workplace and enhance your creativity: connect with people within your own company. Marie's experience working in the banking sector: stress, burnouts, and little interaction between employees. For her, the answer lies in connecting people within the company, from different branches and hierarchical levels, to enhance creativity and employee well-being.
Marie is a born entrepreneur who loves to create experiences that connect people. While attending a Bachelor degree simultaneously in Paris and Frankfurt, she also worked in Wealth Management at UBS in Zurich and founded [Freespace] in Paris, an experiment to show what becomes possible when a community shares the gift of a physical space. She is now starting her own company, Never Eat Alone, which is a mobile app to connect employees inside large corporations. She also just started Young Sunshine, a non-profit dedicated to teaching young people to be more conscious and to step out of their comfort zone.
