0:05 - 0:07“All the World’s a Stage”
-
0:07 - 0:09from "As You Like It"
-
0:09 - 0:11by William Shakespeare
-
0:12 - 0:16All the world’s a stage,
-
0:16 - 0:19And all the men and women merely players;
-
0:19 - 0:22They have their exits and their entrances;
-
0:22 - 0:26And one man in his time plays many parts,
-
0:26 - 0:32His acts being seven ages.
-
0:32 - 0:33At first the infant,
-
0:33 - 0:36Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms;
-
0:36 - 0:40And then the whining school-boy,
with his satchel -
0:40 - 0:43And shining morning face, creeping like
snail -
0:43 - 0:46Unwillingly to school.
-
0:46 - 0:49And then the lover,
-
0:49 - 0:52Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
-
0:52 - 0:56Made to his mistress’ eyebrow.
-
0:56 - 0:57Then a soldier,
-
0:57 - 1:01Full of strange oaths, and bearded like
the pard, -
1:01 - 1:04Jealous in honour, sudden and quick
in quarrel, -
1:04 - 1:07Seeking the bubble reputation
-
1:07 - 1:11Even in the cannon’s mouth.
-
1:11 - 1:15And then the justice,
-
1:15 - 1:18In fair round belly with good capon lin’d,
-
1:18 - 1:22With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
-
1:22 - 1:27Full of wise saws and modern instances;
-
1:27 - 1:31And so he plays his part.
-
1:31 - 1:33The sixth age shifts
-
1:33 - 1:37Into the lean and slipper’d pantaloon,
-
1:37 - 1:40With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
-
1:40 - 1:44His youthful hose, well sav’d, a world
too wide -
1:44 - 1:48For his shrunk shank; and his big manly
voice, -
1:48 - 1:52Turning again toward childish treble,
pipes -
1:52 - 1:56And whistles in his sound.
-
1:56 - 1:58Last scene of all,
-
1:58 - 2:03That ends this strange eventful history,
-
2:03 - 2:09Is second childishness and mere oblivion;
-
2:09 - 2:19Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste,
sans everything.
