Excited for this new journey and hope that it can further connect us.

I heard a sad story today about a relationship failing through lack of connection. Decided to reflect on it through writing.

"Did people used to just sit in silence?

When a couple would lay in bed reading a book under the candle light, was this the equivalent to phone screens lighting up our pillows?

And was it still as lonely, I wonder? Being the one who didn’t read. Didn't scroll.

Waiting to make eye contact and some how telepathically communicate, "Honey, I miss you, put the book down just for a few minutes. Then you can escape to that world." Or is this how it’s always been. Does the day in, day out canter of life and relationships follow the same idle path as days turn to years.

I begin to wonder if our phones have out done the books. Most would agree. Why lay with someone and connect through conversation when there is an unlimited well of information to be soaked up. Maybe we think we’ve learned all there is to know about our partner. Maybe this life is about numbing ourselves with consumption versus connecting us through intimacy.

I don't even think people do it intentionally. The taste for it starts slow. Like a fine wine. Each scroll another sip. Until you realize the entire cellar has been consumed and you wonder how you ended up there, all alone."
