Don't Count The Cost - Motivational Video For Students

  • 0:00 - 0:02
  • 0:02 - 0:04
Stop being this high school drop out
  • 0:04 - 0:06
Stop quiting stop sleeping on the streets
  • 0:06 - 0:10
Stop walking on the streets up and down...
  • 0:10 - 0:11
    And get your GED
  • 0:11 - 0:14
Don't be afraid to take a test .
  • 0:14 - 0:16
Stop being afraid to go to college
  • 0:16 - 0:18
    Because your parents didn't study
  • 0:18 - 0:20
  • 0:23 - 0:25
I don't do well in math
  • 0:25 - 0:27
You're right, you ve never studied
  • 0:30 - 0:31
    "i m not good in writing ..."
  • 0:31 - 0:33
That's right, because you ve never written before
  • 0:34 - 0:36
    You can't get
    through a writing class,
  • 0:36 - 0:40
and you've got tutor after tutor,
    resource after resource.
  • 0:40 - 0:44
The problem is, you ain't never
felt no pain before; you're soft!
  • 0:44 - 0:47
    It's a soft generation.
    You quit on everything!
  • 0:50 - 0:52
    You have to give it
    everything you got.
  • 0:52 - 0:55
No more TV, no more partying,
    no more playing.
  • 0:55 - 0:58
    If you don't have a 4.0,
what you need to be doing is studying.
  • 0:58 - 1:00
    You a sophomore; you like me;
    "I'm just a sophomore."
  • 1:00 - 1:03
    Or "I'm just a freshman,"
like, "I got time, you know,
  • 1:03 - 1:06
to put it in another year."
    But you don't realize this--
  • 1:06 - 1:09
that the opportunity that you need
    is in your sophomore year;
  • 1:09 - 1:11
    it's not in your
    senior year.
  • 1:11 - 1:13
    Listen to me--
    you running out of time!
  • 1:13 - 1:16
  • 1:18 - 1:20
    The next time you give
    a low effort, right,
  • 1:20 - 1:24
    you give a 70%
    or a 50% or a 30%,
  • 1:24 - 1:27
I want you to think about
    what you're thinking about
  • 1:27 - 1:28
    when your effort
    is low,
  • 1:28 - 1:32
    and you're probably thinking
"I got to" versus "I get to."
  • 1:32 - 1:34
    Listen to me!
    If your effort is low,
  • 1:34 - 1:36
    you're probably not thinking
    about the opportunity;
  • 1:36 - 1:38
    you're probably thinking
    about the obligation.
  • 1:38 - 1:42
  • 1:46 - 1:49
    Because success
    is allergic to average!
  • 1:49 - 1:50
    Are you hearing
    what I'm telling you?
  • 1:50 - 1:53
    Success and average don't have
nothing to do with each other,
  • 1:53 - 1:57
    so you can't say
    you wanna be successful;
  • 1:57 - 2:00
    you can't say
there are certain dreams and goals,
  • 2:00 - 2:03
and things you want to have,
and things you want to be,
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    if you are still average!
  • 2:05 - 2:08
You've got to get to the point
    where you get allergic to average;
  • 2:08 - 2:11
    you don't think average;
    you don't perform average.
  • 2:11 - 2:14
    Success and average have absolutely
    nothing to do together.
  • 2:14 - 2:15
    This is what
    I'm telling you.
  • 2:15 - 2:18
    Your teacher
    can't stand average!
  • 2:18 - 2:20
    Nobody really
    likes average.
  • 2:22 - 2:24
    And a problem
    with a lot of you
  • 2:24 - 2:26
    is you not allergic
    to average, alright?
  • 2:26 - 2:29
You gotta do me a huge favor, man--
    you lying to yourself.
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    On one point you said
    you wanna be great;
  • 2:31 - 2:33
    you wanna
    do great things;
  • 2:33 - 2:34
    you want to
    have greatness;
  • 2:34 - 2:36
    you want to
    be great!
  • 2:36 - 2:38
    Listen to me--
but on the other hand, for real!
  • 2:38 - 2:40
    For real, you comfortable
    with average!
  • 2:40 - 2:44
You cannot be average any longer--
    why?
  • 2:44 - 2:46
    Because average
    attracts average.
  • 2:46 - 2:47
    I am telling you
    to be great,
  • 2:47 - 2:50
    because when you are great,
    you attract great.
  • 2:50 - 2:53
    When you are average,
    you attract average.
  • 2:53 - 2:56
So I need you to do me a favor--
I need you to get off average, right?
  • 2:56 - 2:57
I need you to get off average!
  • 2:57 - 3:00
You ain't got to rely on nobody
to get off average but you.
  • 3:00 - 3:02
I don't care what nobody else
    in your family is doing.
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    I don't care what
    your teacher is doing.
  • 3:04 - 3:05
    I don't care what's going on
    in your school,
  • 3:05 - 3:08
what kind of school you have,
what kind of job you have.
  • 3:08 - 3:10
    Just because the people
    are average around you
  • 3:10 - 3:11
    don't mean
    you gotta be average.
  • 3:11 - 3:14
  • 3:16 - 3:17
    You either here
    or you there.
  • 3:17 - 3:19
    There's no middle ground.
  • 3:19 - 3:21
And so what I am telling you is
that you can't count the cost.
  • 3:21 - 3:25
    When you want something bad,
    you can't count the cost,
  • 3:25 - 3:28
because if you count the cost,
and you see how much it cost,
  • 3:28 - 3:29
    you might quit;
    you might give up.
  • 3:29 - 3:32
So you've got to go in knowing that
    I don't count the cost.
  • 3:32 - 3:35
    I do as many push-ups as it takes;
    as many sit-ups as it takes;
  • 3:35 - 3:38
    as many reps as it takes;
I study as long as it takes.
  • 3:38 - 3:40
I pay whatever the price is--
    why?
  • 3:40 - 3:42
    Because if I start
    counting the cost,
  • 3:42 - 3:44
    I might quit;
    I might give up;
  • 3:44 - 3:45
    I might surrender.
  • 3:45 - 3:46
    Don't count the cost!
  • 3:46 - 3:48
    You don't count the cost
    on this one.
  • 3:48 - 3:50
  • 3:52 - 3:54
    You don't count the cost
    on this one.
  • 3:54 - 3:55
    You don't count the cost
    on this one.
  • 3:55 - 3:58
You-- you just do what you've got to do
    on this one,
  • 3:58 - 3:59
    and then you look back
    when it's all over
  • 3:59 - 4:00
    and you see the reward.
  • 4:00 - 4:02
    You look back
    and you see the accomplish.
  • 4:02 - 4:03
    You don't count it.
  • 4:03 - 4:05
    You just look back
and you see that you succeeded.
  • 4:05 - 4:10
  • 4:16 - 4:19
    Everybody got a dream.
    Everybody got a goal.
  • 4:19 - 4:20
    What's the gap?
  • 4:20 - 4:22
    If everybody got one,
  • 4:22 - 4:24
    if everybody wake up
in the beginning of the year
  • 4:24 - 4:26
    saying this is
    their year,
  • 4:26 - 4:29
then why is it some people year
    and not other people year?
  • 4:29 - 4:31
    You know why?
    I've said it before.
  • 4:31 - 4:33
It don't got nothing to do with
    your dreams and goals.
  • 4:33 - 4:36
    Everybody got a dream.
    Everybody got a goal.
  • 4:36 - 4:38
    The question is, when you
    wake up in the morning,
  • 4:38 - 4:40
    what effort are you
    putting forth?
  • 4:40 - 4:43
Everybody with a dream and a goal
    ain't giving 120.
  • 4:43 - 4:45
    And some people might be
    giving it on Monday,
  • 4:45 - 4:46
    but they ain't giving it
    on Tuesday.
  • 4:46 - 4:48
    And some people giving it
a hundred and-- listen to me--
  • 4:48 - 4:52
    120, seven days a week,
    365 days.
  • 4:56 - 4:57
I want you to work on
    your mind.
  • 4:58 - 5:01
For real, education is the most
    important thing in your life.
  • 5:01 - 5:02
    I didn't say degrees.
  • 5:02 - 5:04
I'm not just talking about going
to school and getting a degree.
  • 5:04 - 5:06
    I'm talking about
    getting knowledge.
  • 5:06 - 5:08
    Knowledge is power!
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    Information changes situation.
  • 5:10 - 5:13
