  • 0:09 - 0:19
I Listen, I listen. This wonderful sound brings me back to my true home.
  • 0:23 - 0:25
    Dear respected Thầy, dear friends.
  • 0:29 - 0:32
Our society nowadays is very fast paced.
  • 0:33 - 0:35
Many of us live a busy life.
  • 0:36 - 0:37
    We all have our jobs.
  • 0:38 - 0:40
    We have busy families.
  • 0:41 - 0:44
Maybe we are still studying and have some stress in school.
  • 0:46 - 0:49
And through all these things we have to do,
  • 0:49 - 0:55
all these responsibilities and the things that we carry.
  • 0:56 - 0:59
We often accumulate a lot of stress in our body.
  • 1:01 - 1:05
We have our projects, so we are thinking a lot.
  • 1:05 - 1:11
We can be worrying a lot about the things we still have to do or maybe there's something
  • 1:12 - 1:15
and it bothers us from the past,
  • 1:15 - 1:19
which still leaves the stress in our body.
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    And this stress
  • 1:24 - 1:28
we often do not take the time to relax this
  • 1:28 - 1:32
and to release this tension that we accumulate.
  • 1:34 - 1:39
And if we do not take time for it, is this can lead to illness as well.
  • 1:40 - 1:44
We can become sick, just because there is so much heaviness in our body.
  • 1:47 - 1:54
While in Plum Village we have a wonderful practice for that is called total relaxation or deep relaxation.
  • 1:56 - 2:02
Total relaxation is one of my favorite practices because it's one of the easiest things you can do.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
You just have to lie down and relax.
  • 2:07 - 2:12
When we do it at home, we can find a nice, comfortable room.
  • 2:15 - 2:19
A room that is warm enough, quiet enough so that we will not be disturbed.
  • 2:20 - 2:23
So a place where we feel safe and secure
  • 2:25 - 2:27
    and we can lie down.
  • 2:27 - 2:28
    Make ourselves comfortable.
  • 2:29 - 2:30
    Maybe with a little blanket.
  • 2:31 - 2:36
And if you're not comfortable lying down, you can also practice seated.
  • 2:36 - 2:37
    That's perfectly fine.
  • 2:40 - 2:43
You can close your eyes or leave them open,
  • 2:43 - 2:45
    also both're okay
  • 2:51 - 2:53
And while we listen to the bell.
  • 2:54 - 2:57
We are awared of our body lying on Mother Earth.
  • 3:00 - 3:04
The feeling of her belly rising and falling.
  • 3:09 - 3:14
I breathe in and I feel if I'm carrying any tension in my shoulders.
  • 3:22 - 3:27
And I breathe out and I allow this tension to release, to relax.
  • 3:33 - 3:37
I let them sink into the floor, into Mother Earth.
  • 3:47 - 3:52
As I breathe in, I become aware of my heart.
  • 3:53 - 3:58
Just a light, tender awareness around my heart.
  • 4:00 - 4:05
As I breathe out, I allow my heart to relax.
  • 4:18 - 4:22
It is so very beneficial to find time for this in our life.
  • 4:23 - 4:25
If it's 10 minutes, that is okay.
  • 4:25 - 4:30
20 minutes, even better or 40 minutes, maybe.
  • 4:30 - 4:34
It is a time to really be there for yourself.
  • 4:36 - 4:43
Many of us kind of struggle with finding a good way to love ourself,
  • 4:44 - 4:51
and our teacher always says that to love in the first place is to be there.
  • 4:52 - 4:56
And so just by taking this time to be there for yourself,
  • 4:56 - 5:01
to be there for all the parts of your body, your organs,
  • 5:01 - 5:05
it's a really concrete expression of love, of self-care.
  • 5:06 - 5:10
And it is so good to heal in that way.
  • 5:13 - 5:16
We have a very helpful tool for that.
  • 5:18 - 5:22
On the Plum Village app, you can find many guided meditations.
  • 5:22 - 5:25
They can help you to relax,
  • 5:27 - 5:31
so you can download the app and go to the section of guided meditation,
  • 5:31 - 5:36
put one on and you will be guided in your relaxation.
  • 5:37 - 5:41
And if you're lucky, that person also sings some songs for you.
  • 5:42 - 5:50
It does not have to be 10 or 20 minutes lying down in the room, but you can also practice it at work,
  • 5:50 - 5:54
sitting behind a computer just for 5 minutes or a few breaths,
  • 5:55 - 5:59
just to feel where in my body do I have tension.
  • 6:00 - 6:01
    Ah tension,
  • 6:01 - 6:05
I see you and I release the tension into Mother Earth.
  • 6:06 - 6:08
And if we can do this throughout today,
  • 6:09 - 6:14
there's no big buildup of tension and our body can remain healthy.
  • 6:16 - 6:21
And by keeping our body healthy, we also keep our mind healthy.
  • 6:22 - 6:25
The body and mind are like two sides of the same coin.
  • 6:26 - 6:29
So a relaxed body, so relaxed mind.
  • 6:31 - 6:36
If we have trouble sleeping, then we can practice this as well.
  • 6:37 - 6:43
Just lying in bed and scanning our body, going through every parts.
  • 6:43 - 6:45
Sending our love to our body.
  • 6:45 - 6:47
    Relaxing our body.
  • 6:48 - 6:50
This can help us release the tension.
  • 6:51 - 6:55
And it can sometimes be even more restful than than a night of sleep.
  • 6:56 - 7:00
And you might also fall asleep, which is perfectly okay.
  • 7:02 - 7:05
So I'd say enjoy the practice.
  • 7:08 - 7:13
    Awaken, spirit of the sun.
  • 7:15 - 7:18
    I feel you.
  • 7:20 - 7:23
    Shine in me.
  • 7:26 - 7:30
    I am home.
  • 7:32 - 7:35
    I am home.
  • 7:39 - 7:42
    We are home.
  • 7:43 - 7:47
    We are home.
