Newton's puberty series starts here.
It's normal for some parents -
-
- to feel embarrassed.
You have been warned.

-
Today we're going to talk about...
-
...about tits!
-
There.
-
This is a tit.
A grownup, fully developed tit.
-
But before it got here,
a lot happened.
-
Before puberty there's no difference
between the chests of boys and girls.
-
Both are equally flat.
-
When the girl is 10 - 11 years old,
her ovaries deep inside her belly, -
-
- begin to produce
the sex hormone oestrogen.
-
Over time the result is...tits.
-
It normally begins as
a small swelling behind the nipple.
-
One tit often develops first,
and they're usually tender.
-
The nipple and surrounding area,
the areola, also grow and darken.
-
But both the colour and size
vary enormously from girl to girl.
-
But why do girls develop tits?
-
Because this...
might appear really unnecessary.
-
Well, it is because of this.
-
Milk, as most people know.
-
But what exactly is a tit?
-
Concealed in all tits are
the mammary glands, the milk factory.
-
About 15 to 20, each with its own milk
duct, leading out through the nipple.
-
They're situated like this,
close together.
-
Small tits have just as many
mammary glands as big ones.
-
Hence they produce just as much milk.
-
For the milk factories to start,
the body has to have born a baby.
-
Tits come in all forms,
shapes and sizes.
-
Melons, pears, jugs, baps, udders,
pointed, balloons, raspberries.
-
Tits.
-
What determines how big the tits grow
is simply fat.
-
A tit is mammary glands,
milk ducts and fat.
-
With a tiny breast button at the peak.
-
Nice? And when the tits grow,
the question arises:
-
Should I use one of these or not?
-
There are no rules.
-
If the tits don't grow that big, like
here, a bra isn't really necessary.
-
But many wear them anyway
because they like them.
-
But in this case
a bra may be a good idea.
-
This girl needs a brassiere -
-
- in order to be comfortable
jumping, dancing and running.
-
One thing's for sure,
there's a bra for every tit.
-
And all tits can nourish a baby.
-
But it's a good idea
to wait before you have a baby.
