Wellness Central: Hunger

Wellness Central is part of an effort to promote health and wellness to college students, faculty and staff. This video is about hunger, including information on resources to get free food.

>> I mean to feel hungry is just to constantly
have a distraction to be like I'm doing this,

but also I need to eat at some point.

I need to think about when I could get home.

I need to think about -- it just
adds additional things on your mind.

>> What does it feel like to be hungry?

It feels like it's time to eat.

>> Being hungry for me is very distracting,

and I can't concentrate on
anything when I want food.

>> When I'm hungry I feel myself less willing
to really do anything, and I feel like a lot

of my work is rushed because of it.

>> I get a little hungry it affects
my mood, and how I act to people,

and I can't really focus on my work.

>> I can't get everything I want to
complete done, and I can't focus quite right.

>> I did not know that I
could get free food on campus.

>> I didn't know.

>> Actually I usually pay for
the food that we have here.

so I didn't know that we had
free food offered on campus.

>> Well, I definitely know that
we do the free food on campus.

I run the food bank over at the student
center, so we give out free food to anyone

who is a Tawanamy [phonetic] County resident,

but I do not know about the
free food off the campus.

>> Yes, I do know that you can get
free food on campus at the food bank,

and off campus you can get Cal Fresh services.

>> The Adventist Churches give, and
there are other churches that give.

The Catholic churches they
also have food ministries.

I heard there's some other Protestant
churches and their food ministries also.

>> So if you check your school
for the on campus food bank,

usually they don't require any documentation.

You can just go in and you say, I'm hungry
and you can get food pretty much right away.
