Imperialism, Propaganda & War: The Truth Biden Hid and Trump Let Slip — Katie Halper

  • Not Synced
    [Mehran] Welcome, Katie,
    the floor is yours.
  • Not Synced
    [Katie] Thank you.
  • Not Synced
    That was great.
  • Not Synced
    [Applause]
  • Not Synced
    Hi, everyone.
  • Not Synced
    Thank you so much
    for coming tonight.
  • Not Synced
    So the organizers were
    really adamant that tonight
  • Not Synced
    not just be depressing,
    but be inspiring
  • Not Synced
    and give people hope.
  • Not Synced
    Oh, I'm glad you're
    already laughing, okay.
  • Not Synced
    I know it's funny right,
    to think of something on
  • Not Synced
    this topic being inspiring.
  • Not Synced
In that vein, I want to start off
    tonight with a game.
  • Not Synced
    This game is called:
    Who said it,
  • Not Synced
    Donald Trump
    or Noam Chomsky?
  • Not Synced
    [Audience laughs]
  • Not Synced
    Let's see how everyone does,
    ready?
  • Not Synced
    Who said the following,
    ready?
  • Not Synced
    In some cases, I'm not
    going to quote verbatim
  • Not Synced
    because if I quote verbatim,
  • Not Synced
    it's too obvious from
    the style of talking.
  • Not Synced
It will either be a quote
or a summary of what they said, ok?
  • Not Synced
    So who said:
  • Not Synced
The U.S. won't sanction Saudi Arabia
over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi
  • Not Synced
    because that would
    jeopardize billions
  • Not Synced
in arms sales to Saudi Arabia?
  • Not Synced
    Raise your hand if
    you think it's Trump.
  • Not Synced
    Okay, Chomsky?
  • Not Synced
    All right, it was Trump.
  • Not Synced
    [Audience laughs]
  • Not Synced
    And not only was it
    Trump, but he was
  • Not Synced
    saying it about himself.
  • Not Synced
    He was explaining why he
    wouldn't sanction Khashoggi.
  • Not Synced
    Okay, let's see what's next.
  • Not Synced
    We left troops behind
    in Syria for the oil.
  • Not Synced
    Okay, who says Trump?
  • Not Synced
    Okay, Chomsky?
  • Not Synced
    Trump.
  • Not Synced
    Okay, good, good one,
    all right.
  • Not Synced
    Who said in response to
    claims of Russian interference
  • Not Synced
    in US presidential elections,
who said in response to that:
  • Not Synced
'The US has interfered in the
    elections of many other nations.'
  • Not Synced
    Chomsky - Trump
  • Not Synced
    Chomsky
  • Not Synced
    [Audience laughs]
  • Not Synced
    Ok, who said:
  • Not Synced
'The Iraq war sunk America's prestige?'
  • Not Synced
    Chomsky?
  • Not Synced
    Trump?
  • Not Synced
    Chomsky.
  • Not Synced
    [Audience laughs]
  • Not Synced
Who said: 'There are a lot of killers,
  • Not Synced
    what do you think,
    our country's so innocent?'
  • Not Synced
    Trump - Chomsky?
  • Not Synced
    That was Trump.
  • Not Synced
Who responded to the claim that:
  • Not Synced
'The only one who wants the world to continue with Hamas,
  • Not Synced
    who responded to
    that claim saying:
  • Not Synced
'Actually, Israel is the one who
    wants the war to continue.'
  • Not Synced
    Trump, ok.
  • Not Synced
    Chomsky?
  • Not Synced
    Trump.
  • Not Synced
    The reason that we
    can even play this game
  • Not Synced
    of who said it:
    Donald Trump or Chomsky
  • Not Synced
    is because they do have
    something in common.
  • Not Synced
    They state inconvenient truths.
  • Not Synced
    There are a few differences
    obviously.
  • Not Synced
    Starting with the fact that
    when he's not stating
  • Not Synced
    inconvenient truths,
  • Not Synced
    Donald Trump is lying pathologically
    and rather creatively and flagrantly.
  • Not Synced
    They have a totally
    different value system, right?
  • Not Synced
Let's go back to one of
    the earlier quotes I did
  • Not Synced
    about how Israel wants
    the war to go on.
  • Not Synced
That was actually taken from the
one and only debate In 2024
  • Not Synced
    between Trump and Biden.
  • Not Synced
Biden said that the only one who
wants the war to continue is Hamas
  • Not Synced
    and Trump said:
    Actually Israel is the one.
  • Not Synced
    But he finished that sentence.
  • Not Synced
The full sentence is: 'Actually Israel is the one
  • Not Synced
    and you should let them
    finish the job,'
  • Not Synced
    So there he has it,
  • Not Synced
    he's critical of Israel
    in a weird way
  • Not Synced
    or maybe he's praising Israel
    according to his moral values.
  • Not Synced
    Obviously, Chomsky would have shared
    that same observation about Israel
  • Not Synced
wanting the war to go on
    but would use that
  • Not Synced
    to then argue why
    Israel should not
  • Not Synced
    be funded by the
    United States, right?
  • Not Synced
He also, by the way, I should
    bring up one other thing
  • Not Synced
    that Trump said that really
    resonated during the debate,
  • Not Synced
    which was at the end,
    Joe Biden said something
  • Not Synced
    and Trump said: 'I really
    don't know what he said.
  • Not Synced
I don't think he knows either.'
  • Not Synced
    [Audience laughs]
  • Not Synced
    At that moment,
    we were all Trumps.
  • Not Synced
    Ok, back to the
    Trump-Chomsky game,
  • Not Synced
I don't bring it up to paint
    Chomsky as Trumpian
  • Not Synced
    it's not to praise
    Trump as Chomskyian
  • Not Synced
it's not to make some lazy horseshoe
    theory based observation about
  • Not Synced
    the Left and Right
    meet each other.
  • Not Synced
And it's not to argue that
    Trump isn't an imperialist
  • Not Synced
    or that Chomsky is.
  • Not Synced
And also, I'm not an excelerationist,
  • Not Synced
    I'm not arguing that it's a good
    thing that Trump was elected,
  • Not Synced
    I don't believe that it won't
get better until it gets worse.
  • Not Synced
I'm saying that a silver lining
    of Trump's presidency
  • Not Synced
is that he is laying bare the
    brutality of American imperialism,
  • Not Synced
    a brutality the Democrats
    tried to conceal.
  • Not Synced
    So we should take
    advantage of that.
  • Not Synced
    [Applause]
  • Not Synced
Now, as disgusting as it is
  • Not Synced
    for Trump to announce plans
to open a Riviera on the Gaza Strip,
  • Not Synced
isn't it nice to hear someone
    admit that our foreign policy
  • Not Synced
    when I say our,
    I'm talking as an American,
  • Not Synced
    our foreign policy isn't
    driven by a commitment
  • Not Synced
    to fairness, justice, and
    the rules-based order?
  • Not Synced
Isn't it helpful to know that in fact,
  • Not Synced
there is not rules based order?
  • Not Synced
Isn't it helpful to not pretend
    that the US funds
  • Not Synced
    and enables Israel because
    it's a democracy?
  • Not Synced
    Another example is Eukraine.
  • Not Synced
    People are scandalised that
    Trump spoke to Zelenskyy
  • Not Synced
    like a petulant, ungrateful,
    uncooperative
  • Not Synced
    and self sabotaging child,
    which he did.
  • Not Synced
But isn't that in some ways
    preferable to what Biden did?
  • Not Synced
    Biden may have said nice
    things about Zelenskyy
  • Not Synced
but what did he actually do?
  • Not Synced
    He dangled NATO membership
    in front of him,
  • Not Synced
    while knowing full well,
    that was never a possibility.
  • Not Synced
He claimed to care about Ukrainian
    sovereignty and self determination
  • Not Synced
while sending Boris Johnson to tell
Zelenskyy not to negotiate with Putin
  • Not Synced
    one month into the war.
  • Not Synced
Had they done that, the war
    would be over by now
  • Not Synced
thousands of people would be alive
  • Not Synced
and Ukraine would have more land
than they will ever have now.
  • Not Synced
It's also worth noting that 52% of
    Ukrainians want a negotiated settlement.
  • Not Synced
When people say listen to Ukrainians,
  • Not Synced
    you should find out what
    Ukrainians are talking about.
  • Not Synced
    Trump speaks crudely and cruelly
    of natural minerals in Ukraine
  • Not Synced
but if the US is going to exploit Ukraine,
  • Not Synced
isn't it better to know what
    the war is actually about?
  • Not Synced
And isn't it better for Ukrainians to
know what the US is really prioritising?
  • Not Synced
Another thing I want to thank Trump for
is bringing Elon Musk into the forefront.
  • Not Synced
    Because like Trump,
    he's exposing things, right?
  • Not Synced
First of all, this guy literally comes out with a chainsaw to demonstrate how he wants to cut the welfare state.
  • Not Synced
    Which again, that would
    be like a parody,
  • Not Synced
like that's something the Left would
say about him, to critisise him.
  • Not Synced
    But he actually does it.
  • Not Synced
    [Audience laughs]
  • Not Synced
That's how out of touch he is.
  • Not Synced
    Also it was great when
    he gave the Nazi salute
  • Not Synced
    not because I'm a fan
    of the Nazi salute,
  • Not Synced
but because it was so great at
    exposing the absolute bankrupt,
  • Not Synced
hypocracy and rank hypocracy of the ADL,
  • Not Synced
    the Anti Defamation League
  • Not Synced
    which claims to combat anti-Semitism
    but really creates anti-Semitism
  • Not Synced
    by suggesting that...
  • Not Synced
    [Applause]
  • Not Synced
    They're not clapping for anti-Semitism
they're clapping for calling it out
  • Not Synced
    by suggesting that being Jewish
and being Zionist are the same thing.
  • Not Synced
I mean, maybe it's like a bad sign
  • Not Synced
    when you're talking points
    are shared by the KKK.
  • Not Synced
    Think about the people
    who use the terms
  • Not Synced
    'Zionist' and 'Jewish'
    interchangeably, right?
  • Not Synced
    It's like David Duke types,
    real neo-Nazis
  • Not Synced
    and of course,
the ADL and AIPAC and Israel.
  • Not Synced
    Politics makes strange bedfellows.
  • Not Synced
    When Elon Musk
    gave that salute,
  • Not Synced
what was so great about it was
that the ADL had to defend him.
  • Not Synced
The ADL said that it wasn't
    actually that problematic,
  • Not Synced
    people were on edge, people
    need to calm down,
  • Not Synced
    people were being too sensitive,
    but it was totally kosher.
  • Not Synced
    [Laughter]
  • Not Synced
    My word, not theirs at
    the end, but basically
  • Not Synced
    I paraphrased.
  • Not Synced
    So that was useful because
    it laid bare what despicable
  • Not Synced
    people the ADL are.
  • Not Synced
Now, I also liked it because
    it brought out Steve Bannon
  • Not Synced
    and he did another salute,
but the reason I like Steve Bannon
  • Not Synced
    is because he makes
    me feel really special
  • Not Synced
    because he said that
    the number one enemy
  • Not Synced
    are Jews who are
    critical of Israel,
  • Not Synced
    American Jews who
    are critical of Israel.
  • Not Synced
So, I was kind of blushing.
  • Not Synced
    [Laughter]
  • Not Synced
    [Applause]
  • Not Synced
    How much time,
    when did I start?
  • Not Synced
I forgot to check the starting time
    sorry, that's alright.
  • Not Synced
    The other good thing
    about this is that
  • Not Synced
    people are seeing
    thru the Dems.
  • Not Synced
They are waking up to the fact
  • Not Synced
    that the Democrats did not
    fight against Trump.
  • Not Synced
    They don't really want
    to fight against Trump
  • Not Synced
    the way he needs
    to be fought against.
  • Not Synced
    They are feckless,
  • Not Synced
    they care more about defeating
    someone like Bernie Sanders
  • Not Synced
    than defeating someone
    like Donald Trump.
  • Not Synced
    [Applause]
  • Not Synced
People are waking up to that.
  • Not Synced
    The numbers are that Democratic
voters right now have very low
  • Not Synced
    opinions of Democrats in Congress.
  • Not Synced
Now, to be fair, I have to
    mention these people.
  • Not Synced
    There are some people
    who are truly awful,
  • Not Synced
who continue to blame 3rd party
    voters for giving us Trump,
  • Not Synced
    taunt Palestinian Americans
    for staying home or
  • Not Synced
    voting third party.
  • Not Synced
    They refer to them
    as 'Dearborn voters'.
  • Not Synced
They tell us that people are
  • Not Synced
    self-indulgent practicers
    of purity politics
  • Not Synced
who needed to do whatever it
    took to stop Trump.
  • Not Synced
Well, if people need to do whatever
    was needed to defeat Trump.
  • Not Synced
    shouldn't that have
    included Kamala Harris?
  • Not Synced
Because for a year and a
    half a significant and vocal
  • Not Synced
    portion of the Democratic
    Party electorate
  • Not Synced
    and their Progressive base
    organised, begged and demonstrated
  • Not Synced
for the party to change it's policy
  • Not Synced
    of blanket diplomatic
    support for Israel
  • Not Synced
    and curtail extraordinary lengths
    to active genocide in Gaza.
  • Not Synced
    The polls showed this would
    have helped her numbers.
  • Not Synced
    Was it not self-indulgent
    and Trump-enabling of her to
  • Not Synced
    ignore the base and instead
    run around with Liz Cheney
  • Not Synced
    and brag about getting
    an endorsement from
  • Not Synced
    war criminal Dick Cheney?
  • Not Synced
And by the way, a YouGov
    IMEU poll showed that 29%
  • Not Synced
    of voters nationally
who voted for Biden in 2020,
  • Not Synced
and cast their ballot for someone
    besides Kamala Harris in 2024
  • Not Synced
    did that because ending
    Israel's violence in Gaza
  • Not Synced
    was the top issue
    effecting their vote choice.
  • Not Synced
    So again, Kamala Harris should
have been listening to her base.
  • Not Synced
    Remember the person running
is supposed to earn votes, right?
  • Not Synced
It's not the other way around.
  • Not Synced
    Another thing that's
    positive is that people are
  • Not Synced
    seeing through the media.
  • Not Synced
    So more than 75,000
    subscribers have cancelled
  • Not Synced
    their Washington Post
    subscription since Jeff Bezos
  • Not Synced
    announced he would
    only promote free market
  • Not Synced
    and libertarian ideals.
  • Not Synced
    Another example,
    thank you for saying the
  • Not Synced
    quiet part out loud, Jeff.
  • Not Synced
    Again, that's like a critique
    that you wouldn't make
  • Not Synced
    of him, Yanis, but he's
    saying it about himself.
  • Not Synced
    Also, MSNBC viewership
    is really low.
  • Not Synced
And I do want to say how disgusting
Western media has been on Gaza.
  • Not Synced
    I actually learned this
    kind of firsthand.
  • Not Synced
    My experience was not
    that bad and it certainly
  • Not Synced
    pales in comparison to
    Melanie's which you'll
  • Not Synced
    hear about shortly.
  • Not Synced
But I made a video at an
    outlet called 'The Hill'.
  • Not Synced
    I wrote a monologue saying
that Israel is an apartheid state
  • Not Synced
and for that, I got fired
    and even though there was
  • Not Synced
    really nothing you can say
    because the video pointed
  • Not Synced
    out how many people including
    the Israeli Human Rights
  • Not Synced
    Organization, Be'tselem,
    and including former
  • Not Synced
    Israeli Prime Ministers were
calling it an apartheid a state.
  • Not Synced
    But, people are seeing
    through the media
  • Not Synced
    because the media is just
    an arm of the state,
  • Not Synced
    not only the United States,
    but of Israel.
  • Not Synced
One of the most I think,
    disgusting examples of this
  • Not Synced
    was the way that
    rape was reported on.
  • Not Synced
    The Western media
    was totally complicit
  • Not Synced
    in this narrative of
    a mass rape,
  • Not Synced
    coordinated mass rape,
  • Not Synced
    systemic mass rape committed
    by Hamas, they claimed.
  • Not Synced
All of the witnesses walked it back,
  • Not Synced
    all of the witnesses
    were debunked.
  • Not Synced
    No one was saying,
    this wasn't an issue of
  • Not Synced
    believe women because
    no one was saying
  • Not Synced
    it happened to them.
  • Not Synced
    Now, the same media who
    covered that story and
  • Not Synced
    never retracted it decided
    to ignore the fact that
  • Not Synced
    it was documented that
    Palestinians were raped.
  • Not Synced
    I mean, this was covered
    by Israeli media and
  • Not Synced
    somehow Western media
    never covered it.
  • Not Synced
    This isn't like, you don't
even have to go to Haaretz.
  • Not Synced
    This was centrist
    and Right-wing media
  • Not Synced
    that covered this.
  • Not Synced
    This was sexual assault
    captured on video.
  • Not Synced
    And this is something
    that you actually had a
  • Not Synced
    member of the Knesset.
  • Not Synced
    debating whether or
    not to arrest people
  • Not Synced
    who had raped
    Palestinian prisoners.
  • Not Synced
That's what the debate was about.
  • Not Synced
    There were protests when they
    started to arrest soldiers,
  • Not Synced
    but the protests weren't
    about the rapes,
  • Not Synced
    the protests were
    about arresting them.
  • Not Synced
And you actually had a member
    of the Knesset being asked
  • Not Synced
    rhetorically: So is it
    legitimate to insert sticks
  • Not Synced
    into people's rectums?
  • Not Synced
And a member of the Knesset
    said, yes, it's legitimate.
  • Not Synced
    Why wasn't that story
    all over Western media?
  • Not Synced
    Why don't the people
    who claimed to care
  • Not Synced
    about rape and sexual violence
    talking about that?
  • Not Synced
So you have to remember this,
  • Not Synced
    that the media is
    totally untrustworthy
  • Not Synced
    when it comes to
    this issue, especially
  • Not Synced
    and they don't care
    about Palestinian lives.
  • Not Synced
    [Applause]
  • Not Synced
    But, luckily it's becoming
    harder and harder to paint
  • Not Synced
    the pro-Palestinian movement
    as anti-Semetic.
  • Not Synced
    It's becoming harder and harder
  • Not Synced
    to conflate anti-Semetism with anti-Zionism.
  • Not Synced
    And again, I'd like to
    remind people that
  • Not Synced
    to suggest that conflation
    is anti-Semitic,
  • Not Synced
it's the old dual loyalty trope
  • Not Synced
which is that all Jews are monoliths
  • Not Synced
and we're all loyal to Israel.
  • Not Synced
I think it undermines by the
    fact that you have people
  • Not Synced
    like so many Jews protesting
    the war in Gaza
  • Not Synced
    but it also undermines
    when you see
  • Not Synced
    the state which claims to
    care about Jewish safety,
  • Not Synced
    do things like arrest Jewish
    students who are protesting.
  • Not Synced
    That's something that unites
    the whole Western world, right?
  • Not Synced
You see that happening in the US,
  • Not Synced
    You see that happening
  • Not Synced
in Germany, with Yanis but also,
    where you had Udi Raz
  • Not Synced
who was wearing a Yamaka, thrown
down the stairs by German police.
  • Not Synced
  • Not Synced
  • Not Synced
    Juliana Zaito-Ferrari,
    Ph.D., Professor, Bachelor
  • Not Synced
    of Social Sciences,
    Columbia University, USA
  • Not Synced
    Jennifer Hale Prof.
  • Not Synced
    Rafat Al-Arir is a poet
    and professor in Gaza.
  • Not Synced
    He wrote a beautiful poem
    called If I Must Die.
  • Not Synced
    He was murdered by Israel.
  • Not Synced
    He was targeted.
  • Not Synced
    It wasn't just a
    random war crime.
  • Not Synced
    It was a targeted one.
  • Not Synced
    Thank you for watching.
