  • 0:06 - 0:08
    This episode of
  • 0:08 - 0:09
It's the End of the World
  • 0:09 - 0:10
as we Know it and I Feel Fine
  • 0:10 - 0:12
    was made possible by contributions
  • 0:12 - 0:14
    from slaves like you.
  • 0:14 - 0:15
    Spank you very much!
  • 0:15 - 0:16
    I-I am paying you.
  • 0:16 - 0:18
    You-you work for me--
  • 0:18 - 0:21
You're trying to run my life here!
  • 0:21 - 0:24
    Wallace, Wallace, Wallace...
  • 0:24 - 0:28
You are paying me to make you a new life!
  • 0:28 - 0:31
Politics! And in order for me to do that,
  • 0:31 - 0:32
I gotta be in charge of all the elements
  • 0:32 - 0:33
    that go into it.
  • 0:33 - 0:35
It's the only way I work.
  • 0:35 - 0:38
That means, framing the overall strategy
  • 0:38 - 0:40
as well as deciding all the specifics.
  • 0:40 - 0:42
    The look of the campaign
  • 0:42 - 0:44
    the look of the billboards.
  • 0:44 - 0:45
    Bumper stickers
  • 0:45 - 0:46
what colors they're going to be?
  • 0:46 - 0:48
It means the polling, it means the ads,
  • 0:48 - 0:50
    radio, TV, newspapers.
  • 0:50 - 0:51
    It means coordinating every piece
  • 0:51 - 0:53
of information out of this office
  • 0:53 - 0:54
    to make sure it fits
  • 0:54 - 0:55
with what our polling tells us
  • 0:55 - 0:56
    the people out there
  • 0:56 - 0:57
    are worrying about.
  • 0:57 - 0:58
Or what they're feeling good about!
  • 1:05 - 1:07
    Goooooooooood morning slaves,
  • 1:07 - 1:08
and welcome to another sedition of
  • 1:08 - 1:10
It's the End of the World as we Know
    it
  • 1:10 - 1:11
    and I Feel Fine
  • 1:11 - 1:12
the show where the only peeps
  • 1:12 - 1:14
    “feelin' the Bern”
  • 1:14 - 1:15
    are the motherfuckin pigs.
  • 1:16 - 1:17
    I'm Bernie Sanders
  • 1:17 - 1:19
    and I approve this message.
  • 1:19 - 1:21
I am your host the Stimulator,
  • 1:21 - 1:23
and despite what your racist uncle says,
  • 1:23 - 1:24
    I know he's crazy,
  • 1:24 - 1:26
but Donald Trump sure makes a lot of sense
  • 1:26 - 1:27
    about those immigrants.
  • 1:27 - 1:29
    being a so-called "illegal immigrant"
  • 1:29 - 1:31
isn't all it’s cracked up to be.
  • 1:31 - 1:33
While the right-wing media often depicts
  • 1:33 - 1:35
    undocumented migrants as lazy free-loaders
  • 1:35 - 1:37
in the real fucking world, they make up
  • 1:37 - 1:39
    some of the hardest working,
  • 1:39 - 1:40
    and most ruthlessly exploited
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    members of society.
  • 1:42 - 1:44
Many have risked their fucking lives
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    to cross heavily militarized,
  • 1:46 - 1:48
    yet entirely make-believe fucking borders,
  • 1:48 - 1:51
all in an attempt to escape horrific wars,
  • 1:51 - 1:53
or just provide a slightly more secure
  • 1:53 - 1:54
and dignified life for their families
  • 1:54 - 1:56
    and loved ones back home.
  • 1:56 - 1:57
    And even if they manage
  • 1:57 - 1:59
    to cross the border,
  • 1:59 - 2:00
    land a job that pays
  • 2:00 - 2:02
    less than minimum wage,
  • 2:02 - 2:03
and stay two steps ahead of
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    the immigration officials
  • 2:05 - 2:06
    looking to deport their ass...
  • 2:06 - 2:07
    We're here today because
  • 2:07 - 2:08
we're going to take you into custody
  • 2:08 - 2:09
and put you into deportation proceedings.
  • 2:09 - 2:11
These people still have to deal
  • 2:11 - 2:13
with being yelled at, spat on,
  • 2:13 - 2:14
    and violently attacked
  • 2:14 - 2:16
    by racist fucking dipshits,
  • 2:16 - 2:18
who are too fucking ignorant to realize
  • 2:18 - 2:20
    it’s their own government,
  • 2:20 - 2:22
    and their rich corporate backers
  • 2:22 - 2:24
    that are ultimately to blame
  • 2:24 - 2:25
for the fact that they’re broke,
  • 2:25 - 2:27
    scared and confused.
  • 2:27 - 2:29
    First the money started goin'...
  • 2:29 - 2:31
and now everyone's gettin laid off work!
  • 2:31 - 2:33
    They took our joooobs!
  • 2:33 - 2:34
    For months now,
  • 2:34 - 2:36
a toxic fucking brew of Islamophobia,
  • 2:36 - 2:39
    and generalized anti-immigrant sentiment
  • 2:39 - 2:40
has been boiling over in Europe
  • 2:40 - 2:42
    and in the United Snakes.
  • 2:43 - 2:44
    They're bringing drugs...
  • 2:44 - 2:46
    they're bringing crime...
  • 2:46 - 2:47
    they're rapists.
  • 2:47 - 2:48
    Last summer there was
  • 2:48 - 2:50
a brief moment of collective reflection
  • 2:50 - 2:53
and human fucking decency in the west,
  • 2:53 - 2:55
as millions of people were genuinely moved
  • 2:55 - 2:58
    upon seeing the heart-wrenching photos
  • 2:58 - 3:01
of 3 year old Alan Kurdi's drowned body,
  • 3:01 - 3:02
washed up on a Turkish beach.
  • 3:03 - 3:04
    Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut
  • 3:04 - 3:06
it seems like that moment has passed.
  • 3:06 - 3:07
    Mass shootings in Paris
  • 3:07 - 3:09
    and San Bernadino California,
  • 3:09 - 3:11
    combined with state mismanagement
  • 3:11 - 3:12
    of the refugee crisis and
  • 3:12 - 3:15
    mutual distrust between European
    nations
  • 3:15 - 3:17
    have helped create a self-perpetuating
  • 3:17 - 3:18
    cycle of human misery,
  • 3:18 - 3:20
    and reactionary racist violence.
  • 3:20 - 3:22
    Refugees are not animals.
  • 3:22 - 3:24
We are people... we are Muslim.
  • 3:24 - 3:26
We want to go to the UK...
  • 3:26 - 3:27
... not live in Calais Jungle.
  • 3:27 - 3:29
Just outside the French port city Calais
  • 3:29 - 3:32
    a sprawling makeshift refugee camp
  • 3:32 - 3:33
    known as the Jungle,
  • 3:33 - 3:34
has become one of the flashpoints
  • 3:34 - 3:36
    for this growing unrest.
  • 3:36 - 3:38
The camp, largely populated by migrants
  • 3:38 - 3:40
    from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan,
  • 3:40 - 3:42
    Sudan and Eritrea,
  • 3:42 - 3:45
has now swelled to around 6,000 peeps,
  • 3:45 - 3:46
    with similar camps popping up
  • 3:46 - 3:48
    along France's northern coast.
  • 3:48 - 3:50
Many of these residents have endured
  • 3:50 - 3:51
    months of traveling
  • 3:51 - 3:52
    through numerous European cities,
  • 3:52 - 3:55
in hopes of reaching the UK.
  • 3:55 - 3:56
    Now, with their long awaited
  • 3:56 - 3:59
    destination finally in view,
  • 3:59 - 4:00
    they find themselves blocked
  • 4:00 - 4:01
    by French riot cops.
  • 4:01 - 4:03
The UK's prim and proper PM,
  • 4:03 - 4:06
    David Cameron, for his part,
  • 4:06 - 4:07
    has made it clear that
  • 4:07 - 4:09
    his government will do everything
  • 4:09 - 4:10
    it can to keep migrants
  • 4:10 - 4:11
    from reaching Britain.
  • 4:11 - 4:13
We need to protect our borders
  • 4:13 - 4:14
    by working hand in glove
  • 4:14 - 4:16
    with our neighbours, the French.
  • 4:16 - 4:17
    "Yo Stim…
  • 4:17 - 4:19
isn't that the guy who once
  • 4:19 - 4:20
    skull-fucked a dead pig?"
  • 4:21 - 4:22
    Indeed he is, Agitator.
  • 4:22 - 4:24
    Indeed he is.
  • 4:24 - 4:25
    That's exactly the point...
  • 4:25 - 4:27
to make love to a pig.
  • 4:31 - 4:32
    The French government's solution
  • 4:32 - 4:34
    to this clusterfuck has been
  • 4:34 - 4:35
    to announce the construction of
  • 4:35 - 4:37
    temporary housing for 1,500 people
  • 4:37 - 4:38
    made out of re-purposed
  • 4:38 - 4:40
    shipping containers
  • 4:40 - 4:41
    and the eviction and destruction
  • 4:41 - 4:42
    of the current camp.
  • 4:43 - 4:44
    Migrants seeking to access
  • 4:44 - 4:45
    these glorified garbage bins,
  • 4:45 - 4:47
    will first need to submit
  • 4:47 - 4:49
    to biometric testing and fingerprinting,
  • 4:49 - 4:51
and many are wary to go live
  • 4:51 - 4:52
    in something that they say
  • 4:52 - 4:54
looks and feels like a prison.
  • 4:54 - 4:55
    The razing of the Jungle
  • 4:55 - 4:57
has been proceeding apace for weeks now,
  • 4:57 - 4:59
and has produced a barren security zone
  • 4:59 - 5:00
    ringed with mounds of dirt
  • 5:00 - 5:02
    and razor wire fencing,
  • 5:02 - 5:03
that looks like something out of a
  • 5:03 - 5:05
    dystopian science fiction movie.
  • 5:05 - 5:07
    On January 23rd
  • 5:07 - 5:08
    residents of the Calais Jungle
  • 5:08 - 5:09
were joined by hundreds of anarchists
  • 5:09 - 5:11
    and other shit-disturbers from Britain
  • 5:11 - 5:13
    and other surrounding countries
  • 5:13 - 5:15
who heeded the call to support residents
  • 5:15 - 5:17
    resisting the eviction.
  • 5:17 - 5:18
    A demonstration of 2000 peeps
  • 5:18 - 5:20
    quickly escalated into a riot,
  • 5:20 - 5:23
and around 1000 migrants and supporters
  • 5:23 - 5:24
    rushed the nearby port,
  • 5:24 - 5:25
    and occupied a ferry,
  • 5:25 - 5:27
aptly named “the spirit of Britain”.
  • 5:27 - 5:29
During the fracas, a statue of
  • 5:29 - 5:31
    France's venerated war criminal
  • 5:31 - 5:31
    Charles De Gaulle
  • 5:31 - 5:33
    was vandalized, causing an uproar
  • 5:33 - 5:35
in the right-wing UK and French press.
  • 5:35 - 5:37
SAY IT LOUD... SAY IT CLEAR
  • 5:37 - 5:39
    REFUGEES ARE WELCOME HERE!
  • 5:39 - 5:40
    Meanwhile,
  • 5:40 - 5:42
on the other side of the Channel
  • 5:42 - 5:43
in the English port city of Dover,
  • 5:43 - 5:45
    violent street clashes broke out
  • 5:45 - 5:46
    on January 30th
  • 5:46 - 5:48
    when British anti-fascists
  • 5:48 - 5:50
    attacked an anti-immigrant demo
  • 5:50 - 5:52
organized by a the resurgent fascist group
  • 5:52 - 5:53
    National Front.
  • 5:59 - 6:00
    These ugly scenes,
  • 6:00 - 6:02
    reminiscent of the social turbulence
  • 6:02 - 6:04
    of the 1920s and 1930s,
  • 6:04 - 6:05
    are going to become
  • 6:05 - 6:06
    much more common occurrence
  • 6:06 - 6:08
in the coming months and years.
  • 6:08 - 6:10
And if we're going to avoid a recap
  • 6:10 - 6:12
of what happened last time around,
  • 6:12 - 6:13
    the motherfuckin' resistance
  • 6:13 - 6:15
is gonna have to up our game.
  • 7:13 - 7:15
    As the media-fueled spectacle
  • 7:15 - 7:17
    of election season heats up
  • 7:17 - 7:18
    in the United Snakes
  • 7:18 - 7:20
    many anarchist
  • 7:20 - 7:22
    and anti-authoritarian comrades
  • 7:22 - 7:23
    are experiencing a serious case
  • 7:23 - 7:24
    of deja-fucking-vu.
  • 7:25 - 7:27
We're gonna start with that upset...
  • 7:27 - 7:28
    that took place in Iowa.
  • 7:28 - 7:30
Donald Trump losing to Ted Cruz
  • 7:30 - 7:32
    in this year's caucuses.
  • 7:32 - 7:33
    With presumptives showing...
  • 7:33 - 7:35
    Hillary Clinton in a deadlock
  • 7:35 - 7:35
    with Bernie Sanders.
  • 7:35 - 7:38
Once again, we find ourselves engaging
  • 7:38 - 7:39
in the same stupid fucking debates
  • 7:39 - 7:40
    with liberals,
  • 7:40 - 7:42
    so-called “progressives”
  • 7:42 - 7:44
    and other fair-weather radicals
  • 7:44 - 7:46
about the pitfalls of electoral politics
  • 7:46 - 7:48
all while being talked down to
  • 7:48 - 7:50
    as though we're just naive
  • 7:50 - 7:51
    contrarian ideologues,
  • 7:51 - 7:53
who don't know what the fuck
  • 7:53 - 7:54
    we're talking about.
  • 7:54 - 7:56
    What you're describing is anarchy.
  • 7:56 - 7:57
    Are you an anarchist?
  • 7:57 - 7:59
If I can be real with y'all…
  • 7:59 - 8:01
    this is seriously fucking annoying
  • 8:01 - 8:02
    to keep having to do
  • 8:02 - 8:04
    despite being repeatedly proven right.
  • 8:05 - 8:07
    Time and time again
  • 8:07 - 8:09
    once politicians get into office,
  • 8:09 - 8:11
    they inevitably reveal themselves
  • 8:11 - 8:12
    to be the capitalist meat-puppets
  • 8:12 - 8:13
    they truly are.
  • 8:13 - 8:15
When the money's coming your way
  • 8:15 - 8:16
    you don't ask any questions.
  • 8:16 - 8:17
    Buuuuuuuut
  • 8:17 - 8:20
rather than learn their fucking lesson,
  • 8:20 - 8:20
    the cheerleaders of
  • 8:20 - 8:22
    revolution by the ballot box
  • 8:22 - 8:24
    always manage to find
  • 8:24 - 8:26
a new leftist rockstar to root for,
  • 8:26 - 8:27
I love being a part of this.
  • 8:27 - 8:29
This is what it's all about...
  • 8:29 - 8:30
    the political revolution.
  • 8:30 - 8:31
    It's a trap!
  • 8:31 - 8:33
And the whole fucking cycle begins again.
  • 8:35 - 8:36
    But that Bernie Sanders
  • 8:36 - 8:38
    was able to tie Clinton...
  • 8:38 - 8:38
    So…
  • 8:38 - 8:41
despite the fact that it pains me to do so
  • 8:41 - 8:43
I'm gonna have to break it down for y'all
  • 8:43 - 8:44
    one more time.
  • 8:46 - 8:48
    Anarchists are against the state,
  • 8:48 - 8:50
    and elections are intentionally designed
  • 8:50 - 8:52
    by the powers that be
  • 8:52 - 8:53
    to channel peeps' anger
  • 8:53 - 8:56
    into reinforcing state power.
  • 8:56 - 8:57
    What makes representative democracy
  • 8:57 - 9:00
such an efficient system of social control
  • 9:00 - 9:02
is the fact that it’s highly dynamic
  • 9:02 - 9:04
meaning that it allows the state
  • 9:04 - 9:06
    to constantly reinvent itself
  • 9:06 - 9:07
    Fuck Ronald Reagan!
  • 9:07 - 9:09
in order to adjust to changes
  • 9:09 - 9:10
    in the political environment.
  • 9:10 - 9:11
    Under capitalism,
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    this is generally a euphemism
  • 9:13 - 9:14
    for class war
  • 9:14 - 9:15
    and other associated tensions,
  • 9:15 - 9:17
    such as nationalism,
  • 9:17 - 9:19
    anti-colonial resistance,
  • 9:19 - 9:21
    religious and ethnic sectarianism,
  • 9:21 - 9:23
    and struggles against patriarchy,
  • 9:23 - 9:24
    heterosexism
  • 9:24 - 9:26
    and white fucking supremacy.
  • 9:26 - 9:27
    Basically
  • 9:27 - 9:29
    representative democracy works
  • 9:29 - 9:32
like a complex system of pressure valves.
  • 9:32 - 9:33
    When shit is popping off
  • 9:33 - 9:36
calling an election is often the easiest,
  • 9:36 - 9:37
    and most effective way
  • 9:37 - 9:40
of chilling peeps the fuck out.
  • 9:40 - 9:42
    Often, those in power
  • 9:42 - 9:44
will just roll out a shiny new puppet,
  • 9:44 - 9:47
or pick a leader from the social movements
  • 9:47 - 9:49
who can be counted on to do their dirt.
  • 9:49 - 9:51
This new puppet can then claim that
  • 9:51 - 9:54
if elected, they will use political power
  • 9:54 - 9:55
    to fight on behalf of
  • 9:55 - 9:56
    the peeps in the street.
  • 9:56 - 9:59
    I will introduce legislation
  • 9:59 - 10:01
that will make every public college
  • 10:01 - 10:02
    and public university
  • 10:02 - 10:04
    tuition free.
  • 10:04 - 10:06
There is something so familiar about this
  • 10:06 - 10:09
This moves struggles out of the real world
  • 10:09 - 10:11
and into the realm of electoral politics,
  • 10:11 - 10:13
which can then be more easily managed
  • 10:13 - 10:15
by corporate and state media outlets,
  • 10:15 - 10:16
    PR firms,
  • 10:16 - 10:19
    and greasy fucking campaign managers.
  • 10:19 - 10:20
"But, aside from the campaign themes
  • 10:20 - 10:21
    I want to address
  • 10:21 - 10:23
    some of my long-term plans!"
  • 10:23 - 10:24
    "Yes, I'm sure they're great...
  • 10:24 - 10:25
    but they're not important.
  • 10:25 - 10:27
See, my job is to get you in.
  • 10:27 - 10:28
    Once you're there,
  • 10:28 - 10:30
    you do whatever your conscience
  • 10:30 - 10:31
    tells you to do."
  • 10:31 - 10:33
    Elections give peeps the illusion
  • 10:33 - 10:34
of control over the direction of society
  • 10:34 - 10:36
Because I'm voting for pizza too!
  • 10:36 - 10:37
    It's unanimous!
  • 10:38 - 10:39
    When in fact
  • 10:39 - 10:40
the whole fucking system is rigged.
  • 10:40 - 10:42
The B-52 bomber has a piece of it
  • 10:42 - 10:44
    made in every single state
  • 10:44 - 10:46
to make sure that if you ever tried
  • 10:46 - 10:48
    to phase that project out
  • 10:48 - 10:50
you will get howls from among
  • 10:50 - 10:51
the most liberal members of congress.
  • 10:53 - 10:54
No matter who wins an election
  • 10:54 - 10:56
the real winner is the state.
  • 10:56 - 10:58
    And individual states exist within
  • 10:58 - 10:59
    the incredibly powerful
  • 10:59 - 11:00
    and all-consuming matrix
  • 11:00 - 11:02
    of globalized capitalism.
  • 11:02 - 11:04
The United Snakes is the world leader
  • 11:04 - 11:06
    in running this con…
  • 11:06 - 11:07
    which shouldn't be a surprise,
  • 11:07 - 11:09
    since they fucking invented it.
  • 11:09 - 11:10
    Despite American politicians
  • 11:10 - 11:13
    constantly preaching democracy abroad
  • 11:13 - 11:15
    state institutions like the CIA,
  • 11:15 - 11:18
the NSA, and the US fucking military
  • 11:18 - 11:20
    are always ready to intervene
  • 11:20 - 11:21
    anywhere in the world
  • 11:21 - 11:23
to make sure that said democracy
  • 11:23 - 11:24
    doesn't threaten the interests
  • 11:24 - 11:26
    of the multinational corporations
  • 11:26 - 11:28
    who fund their campaigns.
  • 11:28 - 11:29
    Gangsta-capitalists
  • 11:29 - 11:31
use their political pets to launch wars
  • 11:31 - 11:32
    trade embargoes, assassinations,
  • 11:32 - 11:34
    and coup d'etats abroad
  • 11:34 - 11:36
and yet peeps still cling to the belief
  • 11:36 - 11:39
    that these same evil fucks
  • 11:39 - 11:40
    would ever allow their control
  • 11:40 - 11:43
over the state apparatus that they use
  • 11:43 - 11:44
    to maintain their domination,
  • 11:44 - 11:45
    to be challenged
  • 11:45 - 11:47
by something as random as a vote?
  • 11:47 - 11:49
    Who's fucking naive now?
  • 11:50 - 11:51
    Anyway…
  • 11:51 - 11:52
to get a bit more perspective
  • 11:52 - 11:55
on why peeps keep falling for this shit,
  • 11:55 - 11:57
I recently caught up with scott crow,
  • 11:57 - 11:59
an American anarchist from Austin, Texas,
  • 11:59 - 12:00
    and author of
  • 12:00 - 12:03
    Emergency Hearts, Molotov Dreams.
  • 12:03 - 12:05
Hey scot, how the fuck are ya?
  • 12:05 - 12:07
    Man, I'm actually really good.
  • 12:07 - 12:10
The 2016 election is starting to heat up.
  • 12:10 - 12:12
So… are you voting for Bernie, or Hillary?
  • 12:13 - 12:15
I'm actually voting for us - the people.
  • 12:15 - 12:17
Because electoral politics is just a bunch
  • 12:17 - 12:19
    of pomp and circumstance.
  • 12:19 - 12:20
    It always has been....
  • 12:20 - 12:21
and I've been within the system
  • 12:21 - 12:23
    and outside of the system
  • 12:23 - 12:24
    for many decades.
  • 12:24 - 12:26
And it really is just a pageantry
  • 12:26 - 12:28
that distracts us from the real work
  • 12:28 - 12:30
and the real problems and real solutions
  • 12:30 - 12:32
that we might come up with
  • 12:32 - 12:33
    in the United States
  • 12:33 - 12:34
    for at least two years
  • 12:34 - 12:36
    before an election happens.
  • 12:36 - 12:38
Up here in Klanada, electoral politics
  • 12:38 - 12:39
    are a serious fucking problem
  • 12:39 - 12:41
    for radical movements,
  • 12:41 - 12:42
    but elections themselves
  • 12:42 - 12:44
    only last a few weeks.
  • 12:44 - 12:45
    In the United Snakes,
  • 12:45 - 12:47
    y'all spend motherfuckin years
  • 12:47 - 12:49
    on picking a new president.
  • 12:49 - 12:49
    What's up with that?
  • 12:49 - 12:51
Well, because it's just spectacle, right?
  • 12:51 - 12:53
    It's like watching reality TV.
  • 12:53 - 12:56
    The Kardashians... it's the Clintons,
  • 12:56 - 12:57
    it's the Bushes...
  • 12:57 - 12:58
    It's like these dynasty things.
  • 12:58 - 13:00
    It's all spectacle, right?
  • 13:00 - 13:02
And I think we actually try to take it
  • 13:02 - 13:03
    seriously,
  • 13:03 - 13:05
    just like people take seriously
  • 13:05 - 13:08
    the Bachelor TV show,
  • 13:08 - 13:11
or that stupid show that Trump was on.
  • 13:11 - 13:13
And I think that it gives us a distraction
  • 13:13 - 13:14
from really dealing with the things...
  • 13:14 - 13:16
the fact that we have drones
  • 13:16 - 13:17
that are killing children and families
  • 13:17 - 13:18
    all around the world,
  • 13:18 - 13:20
the fact that immigrants are being
  • 13:20 - 13:22
    denied access... that... you know,
  • 13:22 - 13:24
    that are fleeing war-torn countries,
  • 13:24 - 13:25
the fact that schools are crumbling
  • 13:25 - 13:26
    in this country.
  • 13:26 - 13:27
    Because it's a spectacle,
  • 13:27 - 13:28
and everybody wants to be a part of it.
  • 13:28 - 13:30
It's like sports teams, where everybody
  • 13:30 - 13:31
    gets to vote on something.
  • 13:31 - 13:33
    So their team can win:
  • 13:33 - 13:34
    blue team, red team...
  • 13:34 - 13:36
But there's a lot of it for those who
  • 13:36 - 13:37
    hold power, right?
  • 13:37 - 13:38
    The culture makers,
  • 13:38 - 13:40
    the media... the politicos.
  • 13:40 - 13:41
    Lots of peeps
  • 13:41 - 13:42
    have been following the elections
  • 13:42 - 13:43
    because of Donald Trump.
  • 13:43 - 13:45
    Are you worried about what
  • 13:45 - 13:47
a Trump presidency would look like?
  • 13:47 - 13:48
And why do you think it is that
  • 13:48 - 13:49
he's been doing so well in the polls?
  • 13:49 - 13:52
Well I think that Trump is doing so well
  • 13:52 - 13:54
because he has hit a nerve.
  • 13:54 - 13:57
    You know, racism, misogyny..
  • 13:57 - 13:59
all of these things run undercurrents
  • 13:59 - 14:01
in the United States, all the time.
  • 14:01 - 14:03
    But what he's done, is
  • 14:03 - 14:04
    he's just pieced the veil.
  • 14:04 - 14:05
I think having a Black president
  • 14:05 - 14:07
for 8 years, even if he is totally
  • 14:07 - 14:09
    part of the establishment,
  • 14:09 - 14:12
to many white men in this country,
  • 14:12 - 14:15
    Trump and Obama represent
  • 14:15 - 14:17
    two polar opposites to them
  • 14:17 - 14:19
even if they are more on the same page
  • 14:19 - 14:21
than they realize in some ways.
  • 14:21 - 14:22
I think that he's just really
  • 14:22 - 14:24
struck a nerve with a lot of people.
  • 14:24 - 14:25
    There's a lot of discontent,
  • 14:25 - 14:28
and just like in Germany in the 20s
  • 14:28 - 14:30
and 30s, when fascism was rising,
  • 14:30 - 14:32
    he is tapping into something...
  • 14:32 - 14:33
    this anger and resentment
  • 14:33 - 14:35
    of failures of electoral systems,
  • 14:35 - 14:37
    failures of cultural systems
  • 14:37 - 14:39
    and political and economic systems
  • 14:39 - 14:41
    of many people
  • 14:41 - 14:42
    - not just in the United States
  • 14:42 - 14:43
    but around the world.
  • 14:43 - 14:45
    But he's tapping it
  • 14:45 - 14:46
    in this reactionary way
  • 14:46 - 14:47
instead of a way of, like,
  • 14:47 - 14:49
"how can we solve these problems together"
  • 14:49 - 14:51
because he wants to be a dictator.
  • 14:51 - 14:52
After Syriza pissed in the face
  • 14:52 - 14:54
    of leftists worldwide,
  • 14:54 - 14:56
    siding with the so-called Troika
  • 14:56 - 14:58
over the clear demands of peeps in Greece,
  • 14:58 - 15:00
you'd think that those calling for an
  • 15:00 - 15:01
    an electoral solution
  • 15:01 - 15:03
    to neoliberal capitalism
  • 15:03 - 15:05
would have learned their fucking lesson.
  • 15:05 - 15:07
Yet lots of these same people
  • 15:07 - 15:09
have just moved on to supporting
  • 15:09 - 15:10
    Syriza-like parties
  • 15:10 - 15:12
such as Podemos in Spain, and candidates
  • 15:12 - 15:14
like Jeremy Corbyn in the UK
  • 15:14 - 15:17
and Bernie Sanders in the US.
  • 15:17 - 15:18
    What the fuck?
  • 15:18 - 15:20
I don't fault people for that.
  • 15:20 - 15:23
    The truth is, it's familiar.
  • 15:23 - 15:24
It's what we're all raised in.
  • 15:24 - 15:26
    It's what we are known.
  • 15:26 - 15:28
It's like, indoctrination to a degree.
  • 15:28 - 15:29
And I don't even like to use that word,
  • 15:29 - 15:31
because I think it's more cultural.
  • 15:31 - 15:32
    It's in there.
  • 15:32 - 15:34
And familiarity is the place we jump from.
  • 15:34 - 15:37
When we start talking about ideas
  • 15:37 - 15:39
    of anarchy and collective liberation,
  • 15:39 - 15:42
these are abstracts to many people
  • 15:42 - 15:43
because they don't even know what it is.
  • 15:43 - 15:46
We have to realize our own powers
  • 15:46 - 15:47
    as individuals first,
  • 15:47 - 15:48
    then our regional power
  • 15:48 - 15:49
    - our collective power
  • 15:49 - 15:50
    like in our neighbourhood,
  • 15:50 - 15:51
    and our communities
  • 15:51 - 15:53
... and then begin to build from that.
  • 15:53 - 15:56
But electoral politics is easy to fall in.
  • 15:56 - 15:58
In the past, you have talked about
  • 15:58 - 15:59
    how radicals need to
  • 15:59 - 16:01
    focus on building dual power.
  • 16:01 - 16:03
What exactly do you mean by that?
  • 16:03 - 16:04
    I mean an anarchist interpretation
  • 16:04 - 16:06
of dual power - which is that we resist
  • 16:06 - 16:07
    on one hand.
  • 16:07 - 16:10
We resist exploitation on one hand,
  • 16:10 - 16:12
which is what we do in radical,
  • 16:12 - 16:14
anarchist, and leftist communities a lot.
  • 16:14 - 16:17
But at the same time, we must build
  • 16:17 - 16:18
    our own power, from below.
  • 16:18 - 16:20
    My individual power...
  • 16:20 - 16:21
    our collective power...
  • 16:21 - 16:22
    our organizational power....
  • 16:22 - 16:23
and recognize that we have it.
  • 16:23 - 16:26
We have to do these both at the same time.
  • 16:26 - 16:30
So, to me it's irrelevant who get elected
  • 16:30 - 16:33
or if there's policing, or police systems
  • 16:33 - 16:35
    and things like that...
  • 16:35 - 16:36
    except in the way
  • 16:36 - 16:37
that we want to resist them.
  • 16:37 - 16:40
At the same time, we need to open spaces
  • 16:40 - 16:41
    and like the Zapatistas say,
  • 16:41 - 16:43
we need to open the crack in history
  • 16:43 - 16:45
to ask "what is it that we can do
  • 16:45 - 16:47
to build our power from below?"
  • 16:47 - 16:50
And I think dual power is a framework
  • 16:50 - 16:51
    to think about that.
  • 16:51 - 16:53
And so, any action that we would engage in
  • 16:53 - 16:58
should not be taken, unless it has
  • 16:58 - 17:01
this framework of resisting and building
  • 17:01 - 17:03
and creating at the same time.
  • 17:03 - 17:05
Thanks scot, and that about does it
  • 17:05 - 17:07
for this sedition of It's the End of
  • 17:07 - 17:09
the World as we Know it and I Feel Fine.
  • 17:09 - 17:11
To hear my entire interview with scot crow

  • 17:24 - 17:25
to be released from the clink
  • 17:25 - 17:27
    any fuckin day now.
  • 17:27 - 17:28
    Welcome back Kimbo...
  • 17:28 - 17:30
    No Pasaran mothafucka.
  • 17:31 - 17:33
With that said, this show is made entirely
  • 17:33 - 17:35

the fruits of the labour with me,
  • 17:40 - 17:41
    to keep shitting on elections.
  • 17:41 - 17:44
So, merci beaucoup to Jonathan, Etienne,

    Guajalotes!
  • 18:09 - 18:11
And finally, a quote from American
  • 18:11 - 18:12
    anarchist Emma Goldman:
  • 18:12 - 18:14
    If voting changed anything....
  • 18:14 - 18:16
    they'd make it illegal.
  • 18:16 - 18:17
    See you next time suckers!
