Welcome to our shrine.

Today, I will tell you how to enshrine ofuda

without a kamidana (Shinto altar).

Previously, I have talked about kamidana before.

Regarding kamidana, there are some FAQs.

I am often asked

"I have no kamidana at home but I want

to enshrine an ofuda. What should I do?"

Due to personal circumstances, not everyone

is able to have a kamidana at home.

Even so, you want to enshrine an ofuda.

You want to recieve O-Ise-san (Ise Shrine)
and your local shrine's ofuda.

You want to enshrine,
you want to worship.

What should I do?

I get asked this a lot.

Here we have the Jingu Taima,

the ofuda of O-Ise-san.

Of course, it is good to enshrine it at a kamidana.

If you can't do that, if you don't have a kamidana,

what should you do?

In those cases, I will introduce to you

one way you can still enshrine it.

That is, you lean it on a shelf slightly above eye level

and enshrine it.

This method is good too.

For example, say this is the top of a shelf above eye level.

We call them tenban.

Lay a sheet of washi paper, or even printer paper

like this, should be fine.

Lean the ofuda against the wall on top of it.

I think this is good.

I don't have a wall here, so I can't lean the ofuda,

but if you have something you can lean it on

that is good.

If you have a wall, please lean it against the wall.

I wonder if phone stands would be okay.

Just try some different ways to get it to stand.

Once you get it standing,

offer rice, salt and sake in front.

It is also good to offer sakaki tree branches

on either side of the ofuda.

In this way, even if you don't have a kamidana,

you can enshrine an ofuda.

It is essential that it is higher than eye level.

Stand the ofuda on the top of a shelf slightly above eye level

and enshrine it.

You can lean it like so, but the best way

is, in my opinion, to have a kamidana.

Recently, aside from traditional kamidana

like this one,

there are modern kamidana for Western-style houses.

They fit right in in an apartment or room.

Please take a look online.

Until you get a kamidana,

if you leave an ofuda leaning on the top of a shelf

higher than your eye level,

it should be temporarily fine.
