That was Hunter, our son's,
first concert, Lindsey Stirling.

- All right, we're in snow now.

- This is the song
that turned me on to her.

- It's, like, so dubstep-py.

- Has there ever been
a violinist this popular?

- I had this song on my Spotify
for the longest time.

♪ (spirited violin music) ♪

- And when she's not playing music,
she's doing gymnastics.

- Wow, she can't be stopped, man.

Any kind of weatha.
No one can do it betta.

- That's so crazy.
She's, like, super talented.

♪ (sonorous violin music) ♪

- It's so cool.
The production value's awesome.

- She's breaking barriers, that's for sure.

the performing artist Lindsey Stirling.

- Lindsey Stirling, that's right!

- She rocks, man. I dig it.

- (Finebros) What do you think
after watching a medley of her music?

- I mean, she's super talented.

She doesn't even need words
to put into her music.

- It's definitely not stuff
that I would listen to on my own,

but it was actually pretty good.

- She's a beast, obviously.

I haven't heard of any other violinist
that's doing something similar

that's that big.

- I'm not very flexible, so the fact
that she can move like that

while playing a violin is unbelievable.

- I think she's fantastic.

I know she has a YouTube channel.

I don't watch her YouTube videos.

I just know of her
just as a musical artist.

- (Finebros) Lindsey first hit the scene
on America's Got Talent.

- Oh really? Okay.

- (Finebros) And she was told on that show

that she would not make it in the industry.

- Really?! Ha ha.

That's what I say to that.

- (Finebros) That motivated her
over to YouTube,

where she now has
over eight million subscribers,

making her one of the most popular musicians

of all time on the site.

What do you think of her story?

- It's fantastic.

It's a comeback story.

- It kind of works out better
'cause you do it all on your own terms

and you have no one to really answer to.

- For somebody like that,
with that amount of talent,

to be told that she can't do somethin',

you could tell she loves
proving people wrong.

- I bet she walks around with a chip
on her shoulder-- in a good way.

Like she just walks around--
she keeps in the back of her mind,

every time she sells out shows,
she's like, "What? What was that?"

- When you have those people
that are kind of like...

you know, naysayers, you take that
and say "You know what?

That's gonna be the fire
that's lit under me to really show 'em."

- (Finebros) Not only has she had
big success on YouTube,

but her album, Shatter Me,
debuted at number two

on the Billboard Charts back in 2014.
- Wow!

- That Shatter Me album, I went out
and bought it the first day it was out.

- (Finebros) She's even worked
with artists such as John Legend

and played at venues
like The Kennedy Center.

What do you think of her ability
to cross over into mainstream success?

- Well, isn't that what
YouTube's all about,

is getting yourself out there,
putting yourself out there?

- She found her niche
and she's rollin' with it.

You can't stop her.
Man, she can't be stopped.

- A lot of really amazing success stories
have come out of YouTube.

- It's also an opportunity
for other artists

to cross over into YouTube success.

John Legend is, like,
a really good musician too,

so you want to collaborate
with really good musicians.

And you see something visually stunning,
like what she does,

who wouldn't want to be a part of that?

- (Finebros) Despite all of this,
she has spoken about

not being taken as seriously sometimes
because of her online following.

What do you think about that?

- That's sucks if it's true.

- She's a better musician or artist
than people that are on TV.

- Isn't that the story of every YouTuber?

Like, no one's ever taken seriously?

But they're constantly proving people wrong.

- People sometimes look at YouTube
and there's this kind of stigma,

and not really taken seriously,
but, I mean, that's changing.

- People are looking at that like
that's not the way that they did it,

therefore it's not the right way,
and they're idiots.

Just don't listen to people like that.

They're stupid.

♪ (guitar riff) ♪

- (Finebros) What do you think it does
for others who are pursuing

their own aspirations,
seeing the massive success of Lindsey?

- I think it's a beacon of hope for them.

There's just something extra-special
about being told no

and then showing everybody wrong,
like, proving them wrong.

- Younger people are not really used
to seeing any artist play the violin.

The fact that she's taking
a classical instrument

and she's making it contemporary,
I think that stands out.

- Any time you find someone
who has followed their passion

and they have had that success,
watch those people.

Because for every one
of those you will find,

you will find 20, 30, 40 or 50 people
who were too scared shitless

to follow their own passion,
and since they were scared

will try and talk you
out of following your own.

- (Finebros) Finally,

- Lindsey, I love you.
