-
1:25 - 1:27and welcome to another sedition of
-
1:27 - 1:29It's the End of the World as We Know it
-
1:29 - 1:31and I Feel Fine, the show where
-
1:31 - 1:33the pigs' failed attempts at PR
-
1:33 - 1:34come back to haunt them.
-
1:34 - 1:38Cuz you know when the cop lights bling
-
1:38 - 1:40that can only mean one thing....
-
1:47 - 1:49♫ I'm tryin to run you down
-
1:49 - 1:51but we're running at the same speed honey.
-
1:52 - 1:54I am your host the Stimulator, and
-
1:54 - 1:56given the rampant levels of Islamophobia
-
1:56 - 1:57and anti-immigrant hysteria
-
1:57 - 1:59spreading across the west...
-
1:59 - 2:00Enough is enough.
-
2:00 - 2:03Let us reclaim our country.
-
2:03 - 2:05Stop the mass immigration from
-
2:05 - 2:06Islamic countries.
-
2:06 - 2:07No more.
-
2:07 - 2:09Fuck you, racist fuck!
-
2:09 - 2:11it can be hard to believe that
-
2:11 - 2:13just last summer, millions of peeps
-
2:13 - 2:15around the world were watching
-
2:15 - 2:17in mothafuckin awe, as tens of thousands
-
2:17 - 2:20of refugees smashed through the walls
-
2:20 - 2:22of fortress Europe, bravely fighting
-
2:22 - 2:24their way past lines of riot cops
-
2:24 - 2:25in Macedonia and Hungary
-
2:25 - 2:27streaming across borders,
-
2:27 - 2:29and eventually ending up in train stations
-
2:29 - 2:31where they were welcomed by throngs
-
2:31 - 2:32of cheering supporters,
-
2:32 - 2:33like exhausted contestants on
-
2:33 - 2:36the most brutal fucking game show ever.
-
2:36 - 2:38Tear Gas!
-
2:38 - 2:39Tear gas?
-
2:40 - 2:43Congratulations Donny and Jessica!
-
2:43 - 2:45You are in the finals!
-
2:46 - 2:49Buuuuuut that honeymoon didn't last long.
-
2:49 - 2:51Bickering between different European
-
2:51 - 2:53heads of state, combined with
-
2:53 - 2:54popular fears of terrorism and
-
2:54 - 2:56economic uncertainty, and an accompanying
-
2:56 - 2:59rise in good ol'fashioned fascism,
-
2:59 - 3:01have led to the re-militarization
-
3:01 - 3:03of European borders, leaving
-
3:03 - 3:05tens of thousands of migrants stranded
-
3:05 - 3:06in squalid refugee camps and detention
-
3:06 - 3:09centres in countries across Europe.
-
3:09 - 3:12In other words, shit is bleak as fuck.
-
3:12 - 3:14And finally they said no way
-
3:14 - 3:16to go through this border.
-
3:16 - 3:19This make us feel so bad.... angry.
-
3:19 - 3:21And shit got even bleaker on March 20th
-
3:21 - 3:23when a new deal between Europe
-
3:23 - 3:24and Turkey came into effect.
-
3:24 - 3:26Under the terms of this agreement,
-
3:26 - 3:27Europe has outsourced much of its
-
3:27 - 3:29refugee detention, asylum processing,
-
3:29 - 3:32and deportation services to Turkey
-
3:32 - 3:35in exchange for a cool 3 billion Euros,
-
3:35 - 3:37the resumption of negotiations aimed at
-
3:37 - 3:39Turkey joining the EU, and
-
3:39 - 3:41in a sick display of irony,
-
3:41 - 3:43increased ease of movement for
-
3:43 - 3:45Turkish citizens in Europe.
-
3:45 - 3:47And while Turkey has assumed the role
-
3:47 - 3:48of Europe's border guard,
-
3:48 - 3:50Greece has been transformed into
-
3:50 - 3:52a teeming detention camp.
-
3:52 - 3:54Under the terms of the EU's agreement
-
3:54 - 3:56with Turkey, and new legislation passed
-
3:56 - 3:58by Greece's snivelling, back-stabbing
-
3:58 - 3:59Syriza government,
-
3:59 - 4:01so-called “irregular migrants” have to
-
4:01 - 4:04apply for asylum upon arrival in Greece,
-
4:04 - 4:06or else face immediate deportation
-
4:06 - 4:09back to Turkey, followed in most cases
-
4:09 - 4:11by forced deportation back to
-
4:11 - 4:13the very countries that they were fleeing
-
4:13 - 4:14in the first place.
-
4:14 - 4:16In our country is, right now, war.
-
4:16 - 4:18We don't want to be over there.
-
4:18 - 4:20For the sake of that very reason,
-
4:20 - 4:22we've come here.
-
4:22 - 4:25So if the government agrees to the decision
-
4:25 - 4:26and sends us back to Turkey,
-
4:26 - 4:28it's very bad for us.
-
4:28 - 4:29The problem with this arrangement,
-
4:29 - 4:30besides the fucking obvious, is that
-
4:30 - 4:33the Greek state is in fucking shambles
-
4:33 - 4:35and lacks the proper infrastructure
-
4:35 - 4:37and support staff to process the thousands
-
4:37 - 4:39of asylum applications,
-
4:39 - 4:41provide interpretation services,
-
4:41 - 4:42and adequately house people
-
4:42 - 4:44while they’re being processed.
-
4:44 - 4:46To make matters even fucking worse,
-
4:46 - 4:48the over 50,000 migrants who
-
4:48 - 4:50reached Greece before the agreement
-
4:50 - 4:51with Turkey came into effect
-
4:51 - 4:53are now trapped with nowhere to go,
-
4:53 - 4:55with many stating they would rather
-
4:55 - 4:56kill themselves than be
-
4:56 - 4:57deported back to Turkey.
-
4:57 - 4:59If we were to go back to Bangladesh
-
4:59 - 5:00we would die.
-
5:00 - 5:03So if we die, we will die here.
-
5:03 - 5:05You cannot go back to Bangladesh.
-
5:05 - 5:06No way. No choice.
-
5:06 - 5:08Back in February Macedonia sealed its
-
5:08 - 5:10border with Greece, as part of an effort
-
5:10 - 5:12to close the so-called “Balkan Route”
-
5:12 - 5:13to Northern Europe.
-
5:13 - 5:15Since then, a sprawling encampment
-
5:15 - 5:17in the Greek village of Idomeni,
-
5:17 - 5:19which serves as temporary home to
-
5:19 - 5:21over 12,000 trapped refugees,
-
5:21 - 5:23has been the site of increased tensions
-
5:23 - 5:25and repeated clashes with Greek riot pigs
-
5:25 - 5:27and Macedonian border troops.
-
5:27 - 5:29During one of these protests on April 18th
-
5:29 - 5:32a 24 year old refugee was
-
5:32 - 5:33critically injured after being run over
-
5:33 - 5:35by a Greek police van.
-
5:35 - 5:37This generalized clusterfuck has played
-
5:37 - 5:39directly into the hands of Greek fascists,
-
5:39 - 5:41with Golden Dawn supporters leading
-
5:41 - 5:42marches and rallies in recent weeks, and
-
5:42 - 5:45attacking anarchist-run refugee centres
-
5:45 - 5:47on the islands of Lesbos and Chios.
-
5:47 - 5:49Greek pigs have worked hand in glove
-
5:49 - 5:50with their fascist buddies,
-
5:50 - 5:52launching raids on these same centres,
-
5:52 - 5:54detaining migrants and
-
5:54 - 5:55their anarchist supporters alike.
-
5:55 - 5:57Meanwhile, Austria has announced that
-
5:57 - 5:59as of June 1st, they will be deploying
-
5:59 - 6:01their army to the Brenner Pass,
-
6:01 - 6:04an important border crossing with Italy,
-
6:04 - 6:06the other main country of entry
-
6:06 - 6:07for migrants arriving in Europe.
-
6:07 - 6:10Buuuuuuuut resistance to these proposed
-
6:10 - 6:11border controls is growing.
-
6:11 - 6:14On April 3rd, around 1000 activists
-
6:14 - 6:15with No Borders Europe clashed with the
-
6:15 - 6:18Austrian riot pigs, injuring at least two
-
6:18 - 6:20with a similar scene playing out
-
6:20 - 6:22three weeks later, on April 24th.
-
6:22 - 6:24And across Italy, a movement called
-
6:24 - 6:26#OverTheFortress has begun coordinating
-
6:26 - 6:29local protests and solidarity actions.
-
6:29 - 6:31As the poisonous fucking ideology
-
6:31 - 6:33of fascism continues to spread
-
6:33 - 6:34throughout Europe and beyond,
-
6:34 - 6:36the stakes are incredibly fucking high.
-
6:36 - 6:38And if anyone needed a reminder,
-
6:38 - 6:40they got one on April 18th,
-
6:40 - 6:42when yet another boat capsized
-
6:42 - 6:45in the Aegean Sea, en route to Italy
-
6:45 - 6:48killing over 400 refugees on board.
-
6:48 - 6:49Fuck all borders.
-
6:49 - 6:51And the states that defend them.
-
6:53 - 6:55♫ Sitting at a cubicle,
-
6:55 - 6:57staring at a screen
-
6:57 - 7:00playing with the lighter in the pocket
-
7:00 - 7:01of my jeans....
-
7:01 - 7:10Let's start a riot... let's start a riot.
-
7:10 - 7:12I'm tired of trading hours
-
7:12 - 7:14for so little in return.
-
7:14 - 7:17Don't wanna take a sick day, man
-
7:17 - 7:19I wanna watch it burn.
-
7:19 - 7:28Let's start a riot.... let's start a riot.
-
7:28 - 7:31I'm gonna get together with 100 of
-
7:31 - 7:36my closest friends.
-
7:36 - 7:39When a brick goes through the window,
-
7:39 - 7:45there's no telling how the story ends.
-
7:45 - 7:47Another wasted day that's filled
-
7:47 - 7:50with meetings and reports.
-
7:50 - 7:51Hey boss I'm leaving early....
-
7:51 - 7:53there's some cars I wanna torch.
-
7:53 - 8:03Let's start a riot..... let's start a riot.
-
8:03 - 8:10Let's start a riot... let's start a riot.
-
8:11 - 8:12Light it up!
-
8:13 - 8:16The United Snakes has long been a nation
-
8:16 - 8:18divided into bitterly opposed camps.
-
8:18 - 8:20Springfield sucks!
-
8:20 - 8:23Who you trying to get crazy with esse?
-
8:23 - 8:25Don't you know I'm loco?
-
8:25 - 8:27A so-called Melting Pot with carefully
-
8:27 - 8:29manufactured rivalries overseen by
-
8:29 - 8:30a heavily militarized state,
-
8:30 - 8:32itself beholden to a powerful
-
8:32 - 8:33corporate oligarchy.
-
8:34 - 8:36From the cola wars waged between
-
8:36 - 8:37Coke and Pepsi,
-
8:37 - 8:38to the manufactured cultural divisions
-
8:38 - 8:41of so-called Red and Blue states,
-
8:41 - 8:42liberals versus conservatives,
-
8:42 - 8:44Wall Street versus Main Street,
-
8:44 - 8:46team Edward versus team Jacob,
-
8:46 - 8:48Good versus Evil,
-
8:48 - 8:49or just us versus them,
-
8:49 - 8:51Americans love nothing more than
-
8:51 - 8:52to root for their side,
-
8:52 - 8:55and to shout insults and heap scorn
-
8:55 - 8:57at their opponents - real or perceived.
-
8:57 - 8:59You're in big trouble though pal.
-
8:59 - 9:00I eat pieces of shit like you
-
9:00 - 9:01for breakfast.
-
9:01 - 9:03You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?
-
9:05 - 9:06No!
-
9:06 - 9:08After all, this is a country where
-
9:08 - 9:11every year, thousands of otherwise
-
9:11 - 9:12normal fucking people dress up in historic
-
9:12 - 9:15military regalia, and recreate
-
9:15 - 9:17specific battles from a Civil War
-
9:17 - 9:18that ended a hundred years before
-
9:18 - 9:20they were fucking born.
-
9:20 - 9:23You have a gun. Don't ever point a gun...
-
9:23 - 9:24this is like a loaded gun.
-
9:24 - 9:26You have a loaded gun.
-
9:26 - 9:28So you never ever point it at anybody.
-
9:29 - 9:31I was gonna... reenact the Dick Cheney
-
9:31 - 9:32quail accident.
-
9:32 - 9:35Buuuuuuuut while the nation has always
-
9:35 - 9:37been big on its manufactured binaries,
-
9:37 - 9:39in recent months it has reached levels
-
9:39 - 9:41of polarization not seen in decades,
-
9:41 - 9:43with both sides hardening their positions
-
9:43 - 9:46and preparing their forces for war.
-
9:46 - 9:49Revolution has come.... OFF THE PIGS!
-
9:49 - 9:51Time to pick up a gun.... OFF THE PIGS!
-
9:51 - 9:54And as has often been the case
-
9:54 - 9:55in its sordid fucking history,
-
9:55 - 9:57one of the biggest, and most
-
9:57 - 9:59emotionally charged faultlines in
-
9:59 - 10:02the United Snakes is its racial divide...
-
10:02 - 10:04and the white supremacist values
-
10:04 - 10:04that underpin it.
-
10:04 - 10:05And a lotta white guys....
-
10:05 - 10:07"Hey man, that's not fair.
-
10:07 - 10:08You can say whatever you want...
-
10:08 - 10:10You can say nigger!"
-
10:10 - 10:12Yeah.... when I last checked that was the
-
10:12 - 10:16only advantage I had to being Black.
-
10:17 - 10:20You wanna switch places?
-
10:20 - 10:21You scream nigger, and I'll raise
-
10:21 - 10:23interest rates.
-
10:23 - 10:24And while the question of race is
-
10:24 - 10:26not entirely a black versus white affair,
-
10:26 - 10:29there is a rapidly shrinking grey area.
-
10:29 - 10:31In today's racially charged political
-
10:31 - 10:34atmosphere, it's becoming increasingly
-
10:34 - 10:36unacceptable to not pick a side.
-
10:36 - 10:37You either support
-
10:37 - 10:39Black and Brown Liberation,
-
10:39 - 10:41an end to racist police terror
-
10:41 - 10:42and mass incarceration,
-
10:42 - 10:43or you support White Pride,
-
10:43 - 10:44rock confederate flags and
-
10:44 - 10:46Blue Lives Matter bumper-stickers
-
10:46 - 10:48and believe that so-called minorities
-
10:48 - 10:50demanding social equality are either
-
10:50 - 10:53whiners, criminals, thugs or terrorists.
-
10:53 - 10:54BOO!
-
10:54 - 10:56In today's Post-Ferguson America,
-
10:56 - 10:58the resurgence of Black-led resistance
-
10:58 - 11:00to police terror has led to
-
11:00 - 11:01a countervailing movement of
-
11:01 - 11:04reactionary white supremacist violence.
-
11:04 - 11:05The racially motivated mass shootings
-
11:05 - 11:07in Charleston, South Carolina led to
-
11:07 - 11:10a spate of direct actions, and calls to
-
11:10 - 11:12remove these racist fucks' cherished
-
11:12 - 11:14Confederate Flag from state courts,
-
11:14 - 11:15parks and legislatures,
-
11:15 - 11:17which in turn helped sparked a resurgence
-
11:17 - 11:19of the bed-sheet wearing champions
-
11:19 - 11:21of American racism...
-
11:21 - 11:23the Klu Klux fucking Klan!
-
11:23 - 11:26America's at war with Al Qaeda!
-
11:26 - 11:28But we're still losing the war
-
11:28 - 11:29against Al Sharpton!
-
11:30 - 11:32Since then, the Klan has tried
-
11:32 - 11:34on several attempts to mobilize
-
11:34 - 11:35their followers,
-
11:35 - 11:37provoking counter-demonstrations
-
11:37 - 11:39by anti-racist militants in Columbia,
-
11:39 - 11:40the Pacific Northwest,
-
11:40 - 11:41and Anaheim.
-
11:41 - 11:44On Saturday April 23rd they attempted
-
11:44 - 11:46to hold a rally at Stone Mountain,
-
11:46 - 11:48on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia.
-
11:48 - 11:49All these niggas are instruments of
-
11:49 - 11:50white supremacy.
-
11:50 - 11:52They get paid if we go to jail.
-
11:52 - 11:54They get paid if we go to the grave.
-
11:54 - 11:55They about to get paid for
-
11:55 - 11:57being out here to whip our ass right now.
-
11:57 - 11:59When in every Black community,
-
11:59 - 12:00three or more in a crowd....
-
12:00 - 12:02they lockin' us up sayin' we're a gang.
-
12:02 - 12:04They protect white supremacy. Why is that?
-
12:04 - 12:06So... to find out what went down,
-
12:06 - 12:08I recently caught up with Paul,
-
12:08 - 12:10an anarchist and organizer with
-
12:10 - 12:11All Out Atlanta.
-
12:11 - 12:13Hey Paul... how the fuck ya?
-
12:13 - 12:14I'm doing good.
-
12:14 - 12:16So... what the fuck went down on the 23rd?
-
12:16 - 12:20Potentially 400-500 people came to
-
12:20 - 12:23shut down the Rock Stone Mountain
-
12:23 - 12:25mobilization... which was organized by
-
12:25 - 12:29the Klu Klux Klan, Aryan Nation,
-
12:29 - 12:32some kind of neo-confederate groups....
-
12:32 - 12:34and yeah, lots of different
-
12:34 - 12:35organizing groups threw down
-
12:35 - 12:36against an I dunno, fascist police
-
12:36 - 12:39erected barricades... set them on fire
-
12:39 - 12:41blocked the main entrance of
-
12:41 - 12:42the park at Stone Mountain, where the
-
12:42 - 12:45event was happening... and ended up
-
12:45 - 12:46really just crushing the event and
-
12:46 - 12:48demoralizing the white supremacists'
-
12:48 - 12:49event.
-
12:49 - 12:51So it was a real success.
-
12:51 - 12:53You are a member of All Out Atlanta,
-
12:53 - 12:56the coalition who came together to chase
-
12:56 - 12:57the Klan out of Stone Mountain.
-
12:57 - 12:59What can you tell us about how
-
12:59 - 13:00this group is structured,
-
13:00 - 13:01and how the organizing for
-
13:01 - 13:02this convergence took place?
-
13:02 - 13:05All Out Atlanta is a kind of
-
13:05 - 13:08semi-formal kind of organizing initiative
-
13:08 - 13:10that wasn't necessarily bound together
-
13:10 - 13:12politically, but is organized around
-
13:12 - 13:14kind of some ethical principles
-
13:14 - 13:16about like, how they think things should
-
13:16 - 13:18be done, and those are listed prominently
-
13:18 - 13:20on AllOutAtl.com.
-
13:20 - 13:23It's just a group that had formed in
-
13:23 - 13:26maybe January of this year, upon the
-
13:26 - 13:29announcement that this Rock Stone Mountain
-
13:29 - 13:31event, and began meeting.
-
13:31 - 13:33Yeah.. just planning for it....
-
13:33 - 13:34making decisions together.
-
13:34 - 13:36There's no representatives or leadership
-
13:36 - 13:39apparatus for AllOutAtl...
-
13:39 - 13:42It's just normal people brought from
-
13:42 - 13:44some different walks of life, who
-
13:44 - 13:45came together to militantly oppose
-
13:45 - 13:47this event, and do whatever it takes
-
13:47 - 13:48to make sure it couldn't happen.
-
13:48 - 13:51Why do the KKK, and white reactionaries
-
13:51 - 13:53in general have such a fascination with
-
13:53 - 13:55Stone Mountain?
-
13:55 - 13:56Seems like there's a bit of history there.
-
13:56 - 13:59Stone Mountain is the birthplace
-
13:59 - 14:02of the kind of neo-Klu Klux Klan
-
14:02 - 14:04in the 20s.
-
14:04 - 14:06So post-Reconstruction... and so it's
-
14:06 - 14:08a really important place for them because
-
14:08 - 14:12they feel like it represents a type of
-
14:12 - 14:15continuity that they lack otherwise,
-
14:15 - 14:17being that they've been so obliterated
-
14:17 - 14:20over the past several decades as
-
14:20 - 14:21an organized faction.
-
14:21 - 14:23So they wanna reclaim this area,
-
14:23 - 14:25partially it's because it's a super
-
14:25 - 14:28not a majority-white area anymore.
-
14:28 - 14:31And they're trying to regain some sense of
-
14:31 - 14:33continuity I guess.
-
14:33 - 14:35The past few years has seen a resurgence
-
14:35 - 14:37of white supremacist reaction,
-
14:37 - 14:39both in Europe and the United Snakes.
-
14:39 - 14:41Why do you think this is happening?
-
14:41 - 14:42And what are some of the similarities
-
14:42 - 14:43and differences in terms of how
-
14:43 - 14:45this shit is playing out
-
14:45 - 14:46in different parts of the world?
-
14:46 - 14:50I do think a lot of why this is happening
-
14:50 - 14:53in Europe and places like Greece,
-
14:53 - 14:55and Hungary, and Germany, and Austria,
-
14:55 - 14:58also in the US.. is because generally
-
14:58 - 15:00the institutions which once gave
-
15:00 - 15:03stable meaning for life are collapsing.
-
15:03 - 15:06The stable positions in the economy,
-
15:06 - 15:09kind of different citizen rights,
-
15:09 - 15:12a kind of social democracy, or welfare,
-
15:12 - 15:13Any state of stable identity is, I think
-
15:13 - 15:16really being challenged and there's
-
15:16 - 15:18kind of a global identitarian movement
-
15:18 - 15:20that's taking different shapes.
-
15:20 - 15:23That's trying to reconstitute the old
-
15:23 - 15:24forms of power.
-
15:24 - 15:26Most of the west... I mean in really all
-
15:26 - 15:27of the west... that is white power.
-
15:27 - 15:29That's white supremacy.
-
15:29 - 15:31We've seen a number of countermobilization
-
15:31 - 15:32in recent months responding to attempts
-
15:32 - 15:34by white supremacist groups to hold
-
15:34 - 15:36public rallies.
-
15:36 - 15:37In some ways this type of
-
15:37 - 15:39convergence model is similar to what
-
15:39 - 15:41we witnessed during the heyday of
-
15:41 - 15:42the anti-globalization movement.
-
15:42 - 15:44What are some of the strengths
-
15:44 - 15:46and potential drawbacks that you see
-
15:46 - 15:48coming with this type of organizing model?
-
15:48 - 15:50I think some of the strengths are
-
15:50 - 15:51pretty obvious.
-
15:51 - 15:55You can get a large number of people
-
15:55 - 15:57together to fight a common enemy.
-
15:57 - 16:01In places like Columbia, South Carolina,
-
16:01 - 16:06like Georgia, Anaheim, Olympia, wherever.
-
16:06 - 16:09And this way you can have,
-
16:09 - 16:12the largest, most fierce resistance
-
16:12 - 16:14to the police... to the Klan,
-
16:14 - 16:16neo-nazis, whoever... Trump.. whatever,
-
16:16 - 16:17his supporters.
-
16:17 - 16:19So the drawback could have questioned
-
16:19 - 16:22the oppression. The conspiracy charge
-
16:22 - 16:25that usually people are unable to drag
-
16:25 - 16:30the type of power that they experience
-
16:30 - 16:33in these convergence settings back into
-
16:33 - 16:36they daily life... then the movement would
-
16:36 - 16:38just be sucked back into politics
-
16:38 - 16:40because the powerful are the ones who act.
-
16:40 - 16:43Threatening the brigade, and like that's
-
16:43 - 16:45really how it is that we need to be
-
16:45 - 16:46thinking about.
-
16:46 - 16:48And I suppose that any protests
-
16:48 - 16:49runs that same risk....
-
16:49 - 16:51not just convergences.
-
16:51 - 16:52Thanks Paul... and
-
16:52 - 16:54that about does it for this sedition of
-
16:54 - 16:55It’s the End of the World as we Know
-
16:55 - 16:57it and I Feel Fine.
-
16:57 - 16:59With that said we wanted to ask:

- Title:
- Smashing the fortress
- Description:
-
This week, we take a look at the tens of thousands of migrants in Europe, trapped in limbo, facing down the prospect of being forcibly relocated back to the countries they've fled, via Turkey.
For the musical break, we've got The Haymarket Squares, with Let's Start a Riot.
We wrap things up with a look at the highly charged level of racial tensions in the United Snakes, and an interview with Paul, an organizer with All Out Atlanta, who helped coordinate a convergence of anti-racists to shut down the Klan at the battle of Stone Mountain.
